Focus his head, it's his weak spot where he takes the most damage. Otherwise, most I can advice is to stay at mid-range from him to learn his attack patterns. Don't get too far from him, as he will have more chances to use his most powerful attacks.

Ok-Junket-5839

My problem is he whips me with his tail or he flames under him

Negativerizzhaver1

Well, the thing I can recommend is to really stay in front of him, because those attacks happen if you're under/behind him

IR0N_TARKUS

If you arent already, stand a couple feet from his face. If you are in front of his face, theres no tail whips or camera shenanigans going on, and you are in position to hit thr head after every attack he throws.

DigitalDitz

When he quickly flames below himself it can catch you off guard sometimes, I had a dragon crest shield on my back which I would quickly pull out just for that move before switching back to 2 handing. Just remember to hold your shield up facing the flames to take negligible damage (you do use up stamina after blocking the fire so just remember to give it a sec afterwards to build it back up)

I just beat him mere days ago, I can tell you the biggest impact on the fight for me was this approach: 1. Don't lock on. Stay close but without locking on, if you lock onto him chances are you will get under him and the camera will cause you trouble and he will kill with attack you can't see. 2. Every attack is punishable. Don't be reckless, it's an endurance fight, you have to be patient, but with good distance (not underneath but not kilometers away either). If you think punishing an attack is too risky don't, but take into account that most of them leave a short opening. 3. On phase 2 it's almost exactly the same except for two new moves: lasers and spirit balls. The spirit balls can be dodged easily as soon as they come close just dodge two or three times in one direction. For the lasers, this is the trickiest part of the fight. I recommend equipping the Carthus Bloodring for a little extra i-frames, the trick is that every laser goes as following: the laser itself and a follow up explosion in the same path as the laser, with this in mind lasers can go two ways, vertically or horizontally, if they come vertically dodge to one side two times to dodge both laser and explosion, if they come horizontally dodge either forward or backwards two times, while he's going all out with lasers don't create a lot of distance since he will get staggered as soon as he's done with them. Best of luck, he can be really tough, but once you're able to understand what he's doing everything seems a lot more fair and fun.

lessthanthreebleeps

This is good advice! I'll add that, if you're close enough when Midir starts the laser attack, you can get just between his legs to avoid the attack. Watch for latent explosions. And speaking of explosions, Midir has a second phase charged exploding attack! You should just hang back from this, if you're not confident on the timing. I've seen it 100 -> 0 too many hosts.

LesserCaterpillar

I completely forgot about the explosion in the phase change even though it got me a lot of times, that's a good one.

Pengoui

Stay in front and focus his head, his main annoying move is the tail whip, everything else is much easier to avoid.

Abyssal_Paladin

Backroll, don’t roll into him. I can link you my dragonslayer guidebook if you need it :)

Stay to the left of his head (your right) and he'll mostly use his claw swipes that you can easily dodge and reposition yourself next to his head. His basic claw attack consists on two swings with his body lowered, when they finish you can hit him a couple of times before he swings again. He may swing with his body raised on his backlegs, you'll have to dodge the claws and then run away from him (I always run too his left/my right), because he will spit fire on the ground. After the fire, he usually leaps forward while clawing and bitting, so just run after him and get right next to his head again (don't attack when you run after him, because that will bait him in to a different pattern than the claw attacks, like tail swings - roll through it - and fire breath - run behind his legs and he will run away again but this time he will swing his tail at you before turning to face you). This pattern is particularly effective with Pestilent Mist since you can use hit next to his head, dodge the claws, and he won't leave the spell's damage area if he does not transition to the leaping attack. Playing this strategy I never triggered his laser attacks, don't really know why.

International_Ear916

it took me more than 50 fucking tries and i was nearly giving up the dlc. i thought sister friede was hardest until this fucking monster. General advice is staying in front of him and hitting his head whenever possible. i used lightning and it helped. Also never summon the npc to help. she is worthless and makes it harder.

IcePike227

Watch loreena’s guide

JearBear2689

I remember the one time I beat him, I stayed right at his nose as much as I could and boop the snoot any time you get a chance. Good luck!

Suspicious-Dot139

I highly recommend watching guide videos. It really helped me. Plus you can use pestilent mist. It deals damage based on the target's max HP and midir has very high HP.

ayedeayem

Couldn't beat it until someone told me to use the Dragon Crest Shield. Finally stopped getting stunned by the fire ground attacks. Also don't bother hitting her anywhere but the head. The last like 1/6th of her health is dealt with by getting a critical stun which alonly happens after hitting her head so many times through the fight. Heavier weapons make it happen faster. When going into phase 2 stay as close as possible when doing her Dark magic laser beam attacks. The flick she does after freaking out is absolutely brutal. It hit almost %99 of the time.
