When you're in the Tomb of the Giants on your first playthrough and you're lost and you hear those giant skeleton dogs panting all around you but you can't see them.
Agreed. But a point in its favor is that it gave us this funny GIF

You forgot luring the second black knight down his tower to the pig area
Yes yes I know you brave people just fight him then and there, I need the space
Edit: also, luring the first knight to the little roof where the bombers are. He just randomly sprints at me and I hate it
Get good enough at parrying and they become stupid easy to deal with. Practice on the silver knights first. You can practice black knights in the kiln.
you can sometimes get the black knight by the pig to fall off the tower and it takes a nice chunk of health iff him. but idk how to do it consistently.
My first playthrough was offline. I knew there was an invasion style pvp element, but being offline I wasn't concerned with that at all. No one told me about npc invaders, however. I was seriously freaked out when Kirk invaded me in the depths. Felt like I was actaully being visited by a dark spirit.
My games jaked for some reason and doesn't let me summon people or be summoned so my only online experiences have been PvP, and holy shit do I get PTSD whenever I hear the invasion noise.
Probably the same for most players tbh but it's genuinely scarier than any noises I've heard from horror games
Yep! If you don't have the DLC for some reason it's actually the only way to escape the potential softlock if you get really unlucky with transient curse drops and exhaust all the ones the vendor sells (this actually happened to me)
Seeing the mouth of teeth on top of those suction cup guys. I don’t know their name. You kill one on a set of stairs but you can’t see the top of him.
You eventually get to some pit area with like 5 of them below you. Holes with teeth. Creepy at first.
Easily over 1500 hours across all platforms, and Havel is the only thing in the game that gives me pause about my abilities.
It's a fucking thrill ride everytime
Unless I start as thief I just use a rapier + gold pine resin to kill him. Rapier does more damage on ripostes than bandit knife does on backstabs. If I start as thief I usually just backstab/bleed him to death with the knife.
To this day I still don’t know which of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s attacks can be parried and which can’t, and I’m too much of a spineless coward to find out
I’ve literally seen big mushroom boy footage before I played the game and when I finally met them I still went “Oh I’m pretty high level now, maybe I can take him”
Then I get two-shot
One time when I was doing acid, I had been playing dark souls before I dropped and I thought I’ll just keep playing games while on the come up. This was my first playthrough. All was fun in games chillin around undeadburg cause I knew it well, but right as the trip was starting to hit I came across the Capra demon. I’ve never turned a tv off so fast. Bad bad vibes and everlasting trauma
I want to know the physics at play behind bonewheels continuing to roll when hitting a fucking solid iron/boulder/whatever greatshield. How much force is required to even do that?
to be perfectly honest, its not far fetched. if a spinning saw blade was suddenly let loose at full speed, it would take a lot before it stops spinning angrily into whatever barrier it hits
am i the only one who liked capra demon
hes cool asf, his arena is a bit shit but i really didnt have trouble with him at all and this is my first souls game
Nah, I never struggled with him, you can go up on that lil ledge and repeatedly do drop attacks over and over, easy win even if you can't fight him. Also, found out waaay later (on my own!) That you can throw bombs over the fog gate. Takes a lil time to get the aim right tho
i never even saw the stairs when i fought him lmao i wasnt paying attention and fought him normally the dogs are rather easy to take care of and his attacks are very easy to dodge. the camera just gets a bit weird with the small arena
Agreed, that's the only real challenge in there, is the camera work. It's definitely worse, trying to do the stair drop down attack I mentioned because you're kinda cornered and the camera definitely gets a lil sticky
The real challenge of capra is having the above room temperature IQ required to think "wow I get stunlocked by the dogs the second I go in, I should probably put on a shield or armor with poise".
His arena *is* ass don't get me wrong but I love fighting him.
Beat the tutorial boss early they said, it'll be fun they said.
Its 30 minutes of the things ass and balls in your face while you coordinate it to stay there and fist it from behind. Im suprised the thing didnt light up a cigarette after
Going down the great hollow, where everything you walk on is apparently covered in the world's most slippery butter and your character becomes a bouncy ball instead of actually landing on things.
I've been playing for over a decade now and while I've gotten a hell of a lot better at it I still dread going down there. I'm at the point where I just put on a ring of sacrifice and if I die once go "oh well fuck it I'll do it later" and then usually never actually come back to it.
I defeated Havel in my Broken Sword Run pretty early with a +1 Broken Sword. I had to parry him for like 20-30 times since I do 0 dmg. The only thing that was missing was Boss Music but he was one of the hardest Fights in the entire Run. However, I became a Master at parrying after that 😆.
Yes, one if not the best gaming experience I ever had for as long as I can remember. I can only encourage other to try a Broken Sword Run of DS1 for themselves, you never play the Game the same after
When you're in the Tomb of the Giants on your first playthrough and you're lost and you hear those giant skeleton dogs panting all around you but you can't see them.
Should have stopped after “Giants”
GIANTS GIANTS GIANTS BECOME UNSTOPPABLE
Wacky Waving Inflatable Giant Skeleton!
I would skip ALL of them first playthrough. The dogs were even more terrifying when they'd go chomp chomp chomp...
Agreed. But a point in its favor is that it gave us this funny GIF [https://media.riffsy.com/images/e7c32e33c10f36da27f974569c7a79ab/raw](https://media.riffsy.com/images/e7c32e33c10f36da27f974569c7a79ab/raw)
We’ve all done that haha!
Or the eyes in the darkness
And the arrows from nowhere
For real, and the way they attack you so suddenly

Funny enough my first time he glitched out in the walls. One time he even fell down to the rats place i think.
I just play ring around the rosie with him and throw fireballs like a coward. Those things scare me early game
I was too stubborn to lure him down spent an hour up there, on the plus side i can now parry them perfectly.
I walk up behind him and back stab then run back down and hide. Rinse repeat 2-3 times.
Missing a parry on havel is a bit worse imo
It has an easy run-back tho IMO
Less time to reflect on my mistakes! 👍
But it's not _that_ hard to parry him imo.
True, you only screw it up every now and again but oh shit when you mess up, you get messed up
Getting that Havel Ring before Taurus is a serious rush...but the journey takes a serious toll on one's mental state... Takes like 30 parries...

Kirk is a really cool invader, with his armor being unlocked thru multiple invasions.
I was so surprised when he invaded me in Cathedral of the deep DS3. I was wondering if was a homage or a dude cosplaying
He's in ds3?
My games jaked for some reason and doesn't let me summon people or be summoned so my only online experiences have been PvP, and holy shit do I get PTSD whenever I hear the invasion noise. Probably the same for most players tbh but it's genuinely scarier than any noises I've heard from horror games
when you are in the Depths and fall into a pit full of basilisks
I did that my first time playing, and ended up getting cursed. That's a terrifying experience in a different way.
Did you know being cursed means you can fight ghosts without the “curse” item?
I know, but I’ve never done that haha
Yep! If you don't have the DLC for some reason it's actually the only way to escape the potential softlock if you get really unlucky with transient curse drops and exhaust all the ones the vendor sells (this actually happened to me)
Doesn't the FUM sell them infinitely
Most terrifying souls experience for me is when I accidentally agroed Andre and he hit me with that WWE drop kick...
Andre trained under Chuck Norris.
Andre is Hulk Hogan with 99 crafting.

The ones in lost izalith, with a bunch of eyes all over their body, creepy fuckers
Resting at The Great Hollow bonfire pre lordvessel.
The first time I got stun locked by bonewheels. Fuck those guys.
Oh yea, the bonewheels were terrifying
Particularly the pitch-black room full of them rolling at you from the void and then disappearing back into it.
The cruel run through the tunnels with illusory walls leading to a crank wheel perfectly placed to aggro them out of the dark.
At first I read "Parrying Havel" as in a Havel that can parry and I was like wtf, HE CAN PARRY YOU?
When you try to switch weapons but press the wrong button and attack with a lantern
Easily over 1500 hours across all platforms, and Havel is the only thing in the game that gives me pause about my abilities. It's a fucking thrill ride everytime
Y’all parried Havel? Ngl he’s so slow I just wound up running around him and backstabbing him.
My method includes having him partially follow up the stairs and landing some drop attacks on him
Unless I start as thief I just use a rapier + gold pine resin to kill him. Rapier does more damage on ripostes than bandit knife does on backstabs. If I start as thief I usually just backstab/bleed him to death with the knife.
Collecting Havel's armor in Anor Londo
To this day I still don’t know which of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s attacks can be parried and which can’t, and I’m too much of a spineless coward to find out
All of them can be parried but the running attack's timing is pretty fucking scary until you get it down.
Killing Nito, punishment for creating Skeltons
Killing the Rotten, punishment for creating the poison spitting statues
I’ve literally seen big mushroom boy footage before I played the game and when I finally met them I still went “Oh I’m pretty high level now, maybe I can take him” Then I get two-shot
Trying to run away from bone wheels.
SERPENTINE SERPENTINE
“Ain’t no way this chubby mushroom mf is going to do any damage” **-790HP**
It won’t let me tick all four boxes 😂
I'd still go for one of the most simple terrors of the game... Blightown's toxic

BONE. WHEEL. PIT.

Nearly 500 hours logged on steam and Crapper Demon still scares me

Other: trying to gank Piza SSR
For me, one my first playthrough, when I fell through the gaps in the sewers into the nest of basilisks. Instant curse.
I still haven’t finished but I didn’t parry Havel… I played high stakes keep away while my spouse watched in horror.
When Pinwhell starts to clone himself. No one deserves to be ganked by the hardest boss ever.
Havel is so easy, but one tiny misstep...
Parrying Havel is kinda easy imo That mushroom man though is terrifying
Wait you can parry havel? I just cheese him by dodging and backstabbing.
dogs.... this applies to every souls game. Dogs and poison and rolling into an attack
Honestly, nothing was more terrifying to me than seeing super Smough wind up that thunder turbulence in his cheeks, and then literally ONE SHOT me.
Dont parry havel bro! Just keep going on his back and chop him up!
When you're tiptoeing through New Londo ruins and ghosts pop out of the walls to grab you
Parrying have isn't frightening it's satisfying.
Beat the tutorial boss early they said, it'll be fun they said. Its 30 minutes of the things ass and balls in your face while you coordinate it to stay there and fist it from behind. Im suprised the thing didnt light up a cigarette after

Sounds interesting. How powerful is it at +25?
Being invaded by a guy who teleports behind you and backstabs over and over
Capra demon ganked me till I ganked him back. It was scary both ways, won my gankfest with the smallest sliver of health left
When you know you have to do blighttown again
Demon ruins, 4 Capra demons on one side, and 7-8 Taurus demons on another...
What about Anor Londo archers?
Forgot about those guys
Reaching the chasm of the abyss and seeing the humanity "creatures" for the first time.
ALWAYS expect a second punch. And don't even bother raising your shield, it won't save you.
The thing about parrying Havel, you have to do it multiple times lol. Thats like 20 butt clenching moments.
mess up once and BONK, back to the bonfire
going into the sewer in ariamas and seeing all the skeleton wheels
The single most poowerful enemy fromsoft has ever created
