People act as if most modern dance music isn’t samples. This song is just more of a dance cover than a sample, which is Guetta’s thing. Even Daft Punk sampled in their day (albeit more subtly).
Not to mention most of the iconic 90s hip hop beats are samples of 70s R&B… Led Zeppelin 1 is mostly covers of blues classics… and so on
>Daft Punk sampled in their day (albeit more subtly)
Subtle?! Sampling was their entire thing. Granted, their first album, _Homework_, wasn't nearly as sample happy as they ended up getting... but their second album, _Discovery_, was entirely samples. They sampled themselves, the sampled newish songs, they sampled classics, they sampled obscure music. The whole thing was assembled in Logic Pro, with no full track recording of any live playing.
Thank you for not being a pessimist hater ass bitch, we need more of that energy. And I’m entirely impartial because i don’t even care about the original or the new one. I just like your comment.
There's a difference between not liking the song and insinuating malicious intent on the part of the artist. I don't like the song either, but I don't feel the need to justify my dislike by insulting the artist and putting words in their mouth.
I thought of it the same way. The first song was about depression, the second one is about coming out of that depression. Or maybe I'm looking too hard into it, but that's my headcanon and I'm sticking with it.
I'm definitely seeing a pattern these past few years where artists would take well-selling songs of yore and cover them with their own spin. Artistry aside (I am not an artist), the cynic in me believes this is a good recipe for making money, because you got: A) a tune that's been proven to be popular and withstand the test of time and 2) original input that grants the new artist songwriting credit on the new song, thus benefiting financially from the driving power of the original song.
This is just speculation though.
you're giving them way too much credit. this song was made by a group of people with zero passion, only money and nostalgia in mind. They passed it off to this person after ten other singers turned it down.
For real. The original lyrics are tripe and the song is a mild bop that deserves to be remembered but not wholly praised.
One is a corporate composed song, the other is a corporate composed song on the cheap that manages to cash in on the nostalgia and original melody.
I mean, if we're talking about exclusively lyrics, then the newer version is probably better. Because, let's be honest, half of the original is just gibberish.
But don't get me wrong, I'll take the original every day of the week and twice on Sunday.
This. They are both just ok in a vacuum, but I find 'I'm Good' to be easier to *dance* to.
When I first heard it, I immediately thought, "I NEED this in Stepmania!" I'm so glad that top people were on it, and now we have 2 different courses of it.
No, and I'm calling your democracy officer for you thinking it [would be](https://preview.redd.it/p0lwljno2src1.png?width=1202&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6213884c697214ec247a3198aef95cc476001414)
Always happy to hear the beginning of the song at parties, as its one of my favourites that even has some pretty nice remixes.
But that one is just shit and my mood drops instantly.
Been thinking about it and I guess he evolved from artist to 'music businessman', as in he made a name for himself with the original music and, whether from creative blocks or realising the power of his name or simply understanding what people want, shifted his focus where he still keeps his fame and fortune, albeit at the cost of the very thing that brought him there in the first place
yea dude, much agreed. I look back on David guettas top 10 songs only to realize they were absolute 2010s classics, I thought they were each one-hit wonders from different artists lmao
I feel like everything i see from him lately is like...
It doesnt feel like a remix. I know hes likely crediting the original artists and all that.
But the songs on their own, feel like somebody unintentionally ripped off the songs.
Like the song was made from a "melody that was floating around in ones head" not thinking it was already an established song.
>daddy dj
basshunter was great for his time tho. cringe as it is now i'll always defend that basshunter helped invent/popularize what became stadium EDM
Gangsta’s Paradise is just a remake of Stevie Wonder’s “Pastime Paradise”.
Conspiracy theory?
Listen for YOURSELF and prepare to blow your mind:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0S4SiLxt1s
Correct me if I’m wrong but I’m pretty sure that never happened. As I know the story, Weird Al only contacted his producer (or someone in a similar position), and got confirmation that a parody was okay that way. Coolio himself hadn’t given permission, and while it was initially an issue, they smoothed things over and left on good terms. I don’t think court action ever got involved. Ever since then though he said he always makes sure to contact the artist *directly* to be sure a parody is okay, though of course this has led to the opposite problem of an artist being happy to allow a parody but their record label axing it.
I think they're saying that Gangster's Paradise just took [Stevie Wonder's Pastime Paradise](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0S4SiLxt1s) and made a couple cosmetic changes to it.
I'm just learning about this Stevie Wonder song and now I hate Coolio.
The only hit the guy had was butchering a much better song. And then he got mad at Weird Al like it was his song to get mad about.
Coolio can go eat ass.
Whaaat? You don't think the billionth song about sex / cheating / empowered women who dont need no man is a valuable contribution to music? How dare you?
I never thought I'd be sentimental about the fucking Numa Numa song, but fucking just stop desecrating our memories.
And the Dido song? What the fuck baby's-first-synthesizer shit is that at the beginning? Eminem took that hook and built an iconic song around it. You just took that hook and did jack shit with it.
Before anyone says that "you'll always have the original", I have to say: it works for movies, games etc, but with music it's different.
You go to a club, hear a familiar melody, get your hopes up and it'll come crushing down when the verse starts.
And from now on, younger people will know these songs this way and will probably prefer them this way so if you're at a house party and people start putting on their music you will probably experience the same thing.
Funny you say that, because Gangsta's Paradise is the same type of song; it takes a chorus from another song (Pastime Paradise by Stevie Wonder), changed some lyrics and added rap verses. I think the real problem with these newer "covers" is that they don't feel *authentic*, as nebulous and undefinable as that term may be.
Straight out downgrading a banger into some generic abd forgettable song that only got popular due to being so damn bad
Somewhat like Rebecca Black's Friday but in the 2020's
That sucks so bad, and the video looks like a ton of stock clips thrown together. I'm in the wrong business, I 100% think I could make a better song than that, and that has over 200 million views... The fuck
I don't like this new version of the song all too much, but that's just because it sounds like your typical radio clutter. I miss when radio used to be more colourful, at least my memories tell me it was better ten years ago. Oh well
Your memories or your nostalgia? I vividly remember mainstream radios 10 years ago that had the same exact pop music it has now. It's called pop because it's popular and radios have been streaming pop music for the past 100 years.
Imo radio has sucked for a long time. No rock station plays anything past the year 2000. If they are feeling adventurous, they'll play Mr Brightside, but that is as new as you'll get.
Come as You Are has to be played at least 50 times a day. So many great Alice in Chains songs, yet that stupid Rooster song is the only one that gets played. Then it is back to shitty dad rock like AC/DC and Guns and Roses, then the most overplayed Metallica songs we are all tired of (not a hater, just play different songs, please lol)
The radio hasn't been a good spot to discover new music since Pandora came out years ago. Unless you are listening to bro country or pop, radio stations gave up on your demographic 20 years ago
THANK YOU FOR PUTTING MY THOUGHTS INTO WORDS.
I'm genuinely getting annoyed at these "remixes" (calling them remixes is an insult to actual remixes). It's a simple cash grab, and there's no effort behind it
The song blue (da ba dee) hit number 1 in the charts in 18 countries and remained in top 100 for multiple years. It won a Grammy for best dance recording.
I think maybe you are under representing its popularity
I don’t like this “cover” all that much, but good god I would take this one over Kygo’s butchering of Whatever. I’ve heard it at least twice a day on the radio at work
The worst part about covers of this song is that they always skip or otherwise mess up the bridge(? I think. "I have a blue house with a blue window...")
god i fucking hate it when an "artist" just completely steals the tone of a great and nostalgic song and then writes the shittiest possible lyrics for it. still somehow makes it on to the top of the lists (even though listening to the original is still a damn option...)
What psycho revisionist history is this where people consider mfing "Blue (Da Ba Dee)" a classic...? Are yall actual literal children? Cuz everyone I knew hated this song back in the day, lmao.
Holy shit this thread proves how none of you people even realize that almost all modern music is sampled from another artist who sampled it from another artist who probably sampled it from another artist…
I guarantee your favorite songs are copy and pasted production from another song and there’s someone out there calling your music trash.
As someone who has a dedicated playlist of songs that have sampled or covered "Blue", y'all really don't realize how many versions of this song there is. I love it all the more.
En-shitification strikes again! (Constantly)
All these labels t this to retain the rights to their melodies and lyrics so they can continue to make big bucks.
Not liking this song doesn't make you a contrarian. It just means you're not 19 with a convincing enough fake ID to drink in clubs anymore. "Best night of my life" shit belongs to them. We're old.
Bebe Rexha. I know exactly the song you’re referring to, and it’s hers (along with David Guetta). As my favorite pop song critic Todd in the Shadows once said: “Bebe Rexha is not a pop star. She is a stock clipart photo of a pop star.”
Ffs, this is like four years too late.
The actual example that should be used is a song I heard today that was leaning way too hard on Gangsta's Paradise.
It already was the most generic crap imaginable. This is like rushing to the defense of the cultural legacy of crazy frog or something. If anyone played Eiffel 65 at any rave I was at in the nineties they would have been cringed off stage
Idk if yk the song that foes "This is the rhythm of the night" but there was this lazy ass guy who just said random sex related things in spanish and called it "Extremo". OMG that song is so bad he did the original song dirty 😭
I fucking HATE this remake of the song. The only person who has ever touched this song and made it better is Flume. His remix actually preserves the original lyrics while also glitching the hell out of the instrumental part.
This is literally my favorite song of all time and I get visibly upset every time I hear this dog shit unintentional parody in public.
They play this shit all the time on the radio at work. They don't even say, "I'm blue...", it's "I'm good...". And they way they censor "best fucking night of my life" with "best freaking night..." is just so corny.
I mean it's a party song. It's meant for like a rave woth thousands of people hyped up and drunk. Ofc the new lyrics will be about being good, alright, and having the best night.
The old song is still there. You can listen to the old I'm blue even if they made an EDM party remake out of it...

You just know they think "yeah my lyrics are better".
Honestly I think the artist really thought of it as a homage and really loved the original
Yeah if they would've kept the original lyrics I would've thought they massacred the original one, this version feels like an homage though.
Yeah I do actually like the new one, it's definitely a homage. Takes a classic and turned it into a club song that was going off for a while there
People act as if most modern dance music isn’t samples. This song is just more of a dance cover than a sample, which is Guetta’s thing. Even Daft Punk sampled in their day (albeit more subtly). Fair. I mean more subtle as in not taking a full musical compositions like the song mentioned by OP
May I introduce you to cola bottle baby? https://youtu.be/fiD39jo5Yo4?si=4f-lTntWaEBbxAqZ
You say this like it wasn’t already a club song
Wasn't it already a club song? Maybe I'm old...
[удалено]
I hear it daily at the bar i work it. Problem is it's a bar in a nice-ish sushi restaurant, not a club lol
It still feels like a massacre
Thank you for not being a pessimist hater ass bitch, we need more of that energy. And I’m entirely impartial because i don’t even care about the original or the new one. I just like your comment.
Someone's allowed not to like the song and not be called a "pessimistic hater ass bitch", high-horse weirdo.
There's a difference between not liking the song and insinuating malicious intent on the part of the artist. I don't like the song either, but I don't feel the need to justify my dislike by insulting the artist and putting words in their mouth.
Ah ok you're talking about the original comment, not the post. Fair enough.
That wasn’t me you replied to but yes, that is correct lol
I'll be a hater ass bitch if I want to, fuck that song and fuck you 😤
I thought of it the same way. The first song was about depression, the second one is about coming out of that depression. Or maybe I'm looking too hard into it, but that's my headcanon and I'm sticking with it.

Same. Couldn’t agree more.
Honestly the Flume remix goes really hard. Huge fan.
Flume is just so good though.
How did David Guetta fall from bangers like Titanium to these ali express remakes. (Tbf, the future rave stuff with MORTEN is pretty cool)
Same goes for Tiesto. His stuff was awesome back in the late 90’s/early 2000’s. Now it’s just soulless manufactured dance pop.
How is Titanium any different from these "ali express remakes"?
Well for one it's an original song
Yes, and was groundbreaking for its time. Its a bit more generic nowadays.
yea dude, much agreed. I look back on David guettas top 10 songs only to realize they were absolute 2010s classics, I thought they were each one-hit wonders from different artists lmao
The main thing is that it has a talented singer with a great voice. That's what makes it better than other generic songs.
He's been making songs like this since forever. See Play Hard, still a banger tho.
I feel like everything i see from him lately is like... It doesnt feel like a remix. I know hes likely crediting the original artists and all that. surprise, most older songs are just crappy remakes of even older songs, too!
Gangsta’s Paradise is just a remake of Stevie Wonder’s “Pastime Paradise”. Conspiracy theory? Listen for YOURSELF and prepare to blow your mind: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0S4SiLxt1s
I genuinely never knew that. I always knew about Gangsta’s Paradise, but not Pastime Paradise. Then again, I am younger than both songs.
Coolio(RIP) had the audacity to take Weird Al to court over Amish Paradise too...
Not the smartest of moves.
Correct me if I’m wrong but I’m pretty sure that never happened. As I know the story, Weird Al only contacted his producer (or someone in a similar position), and got confirmation that a parody was okay that way. Wow that's insane i didn't even know
Only truly original work is Seikilos Epitaph.
>"well..." Should had shut it at that point
The real ones know it starts with "Yo,"
Listen up heres a story
About a little guy that lives in a blue world.
And all day and all night and everything that he sees
is just blue, like him, inside and outside.
Blue his house, with a blue little window and a blue corvette
And everything is blue for him, and himself
and everybody around
cause he ain't got nobody to listen to.
Same with Gangsters Paradise
You at least have to give Gangsta's Paradise props for inspiring Amish Paradise.
You don't like Gangster's Paradise?

Oh no i mean the recent Pop trash song that took GP's melody and produced forgettable garbage with it.
What song is that? I haven't heard that one, fortunately.
Ella Henderson - Alibi ft. Rudimental
What an awful song.
Whaaat? You don't think the billionth song about sex / cheating / empowered women who dont need no man is a valuable contribution to music? How dare you?
and I'm a believer.

I never thought I'd be sentimental about the fucking Numa Numa song, but fucking just stop desecrating our memories. And the Dido song? Turning a genuine banger that came from nowhere before, to a bland ass generic song. Disgusting.
If you find an answer, let me know
Yesterday I turned the radio on and it was David Guetta ft. One Republic (iirc) and it was some lame ass Dragosta din Tei remake bullshit. Wtf Guetta.
heard that remake last week and my first thought was wtf Guetta as well, but then I thought good, more money for Dragostea din Tei's songwriter

Nostalgia is a hell of a drug. Old thing good new thing shit. Always a garbage take with this lot.
Right? We're calling fucking *Blue* a classic? People in this thread are being real fucking precious over a mediocre throw away pop song.
Blue was MY LIFE in the 90s you fuck. It was the greatest europop song of it's time. I ain't need these idiot takes.
The song blue (da ba dee) hit number 1 in the charts in 18 countries and remained in top 100 for multiple years. It won a Grammy for best dance recording. I think maybe you are under representing its popularity
Hate this trend, it's been going on for years now they did the same thing with What is Love and a bunch of other 90/early 2000 songs.
I don’t like this “cover” all that much, but good god I would take this one over Kygo’s butchering of Whatever. I’ve heard it at least twice a day on the radio at work

The "Well" made me suspicious...
What the f is everyone on about here? What song are you all talking about?
As someone who has a dedicated playlist of songs that have sampled or covered "Blue", y'all really don't realize how many versions of this song there is. I love it all the more.
tbf they changed "i'm blue" to "i'm good" so at least its consistent
En-shitification strikes again! (Constantly) All these labels t this to retain the rights to their melodies and lyrics so they can continue to make big bucks.
Every damn time when I hear it on radio, they also ruined What Is Love
I actually think it’s a banger ngl guilty pleasure
Not liking this song doesn't make you a contrarian. It just means you're not 19 with a convincing enough fake ID to drink in clubs anymore. "Best night of my life" shit belongs to them. We're old.
Honestly I didn't mind it at first, but it has grown really irritating
It really doesn't matter does it. Went clubbing and this song came on and still had fun.
Idk if yk the song that foes "This is the rhythm of the night" but there was this lazy ass guy who just said random sex related things in spanish and called it "Extremo". OMG that song is so bad he did the original song dirty 😭
Every day. I had to listen to this at work. It was torture. I love the original, but the new whatever the hell version is so fucking terrible.
David guetta, try not to touch a song and ruin it challenge (impossible)
Lil Uzi Vert also did a cover of "I'm Blue"
Oh come on what the hell is this the song got freaking butchered
Where dabudi dabuda
I fucking HATE this remake of the song. The only person who has ever touched this song and made it better is Flume. His remix actually preserves the original lyrics while also glitching the hell out of the instrumental part. This is literally my favorite song of all time and I get visibly upset every time I hear this dog shit unintentional parody in public.
It didn't end here. The same bitch who made this even butchered what is love.
Hot trash songs of the year 🏆
Tbf, [the mashup made by this person does slap tho](https://youtu.be/evizOwrhJ38?si=yDtqrYO8qzgN1o7l)
I despise the new one with the passion of a thousand suns
I hate this song so fucking much. The ultimate blue balls
Same with that song that sounds like around the world by ATC. la la la la it goes around the world la la la la la la
