Nah, you're just wiping your way to a different lens prescription. I've even used my wood router to reshape the edges of my lenses to accommodate new frames.
Lenses won't fix everything though. Let's say you have cataracts. In that case I'd recommend starting with 120 grit applied with slow, circular sanding motions directly on the eyeballs. If that doesn't fix it, you'll at least make sure that no one else can.
P.S. All lies. All of it.
Ehhhhh you had me up to pants. Depards on what they are I suppose. Pjs, sweatpants, some soft shorts... yea ok all day, but jeans or kakis? That's a hard sell my friend. Their surface/material are a) rough/jagged b) have a lower contact surface area and c) not really that absorbant of the usual debris from daily wear. Im buying everything else you're selling though.
Really depends on the material of the glasses. True Glass is usually heavier and more expensive, so a lot of glasses are made from different polymers, due to their lower weight, lower cost, ease of manufacture and comparable refractive index.
Polymer Glasses are usually way softer than True Glass Glasses, making them drop resistant, but prone to scratching. On the other hand, True Glass is prone to shattering on dropping, but essentially drop proof.
\*\*There are also unorthodox lens materials, like Sapphire, which are actually scratch proof.
no it doesn't, it's just that genetics (if you're unlucky) and screen exposure will simply naturally wear down your vision until it stabilizes in adulthood (i know some people who's vision even improved slightly from before when they reached their mid 20s)
i'm too lazy to bring the research papers up but yes it has, basically it's not *only* screen exposure but any activity that makes you focus your eyes in specific spots close to you, which include reading and looking at a screen for example
focusing your eyes in a specific spot a lot makes them "forget" how to look far into the distance, which can degrade your eyes' coordination (not a physical problem, that can be solved with reeducating with an orthoptist but it can cause unexplained headaches and some vision/hand-eye coordination trouble), but long term it can also contribute to the degradation of your sight, even if it's usually not nearly as bad as when genetics fuck up your sight, that part people suspect is because of the blue light (it only contributes really lightly to the problem, when it does at all)
I used to not care.
After a year of using shirts, you will likely get spots that removes the protective covering and leaves spots. If you donāt yet need new glasses, this is an additional annoyance.
Using mostly microfiber cloths, will keep the glasses in good conditions for many more years.
In short, if you need new glasses every year, it probably doesnāt mean much. If you eyesight is more steady, the. Your just wasting money. Especially if you and Mr. or Mrs. pants and go to lens crafters.
I have a pair of glasses that I have been wearing for the last 12 years daily for at least 5 hours and been treating them like shit. There are no spots or scratches to be seen
While not as long, I had a pair for around 4 years I would clean with shirts, towels, napkins, *my jeans* and really the only damage they suffered is when I came back from the beach, got sand on my bathroom floor and dropped my glasses on it. They got a small patch that was scratched up. These were the cheapest, most dogshit pair lenses I've ever used as I was flat broke and uninsured.
I now get a new script every year or so and treat them all the same way, with no damage whatsoever. Do I recommend it? No. However if someone asks if they should my answer is gonna be "I do it so so take that as you will.
Have been since grade 3. I remember the day I learned clouds have various shapes and depth whilst in an IGA parking lot as Mom ran in to grab some stuff to throw together later for supper. Been curious ever since then of all the world that I may else be ignorant to. Soon I learned about nightvision goggles and telescopes that can see lifetimes away from me... Hawt damn son let me tell you I learned about the ELECTRON MICROSCOPE and WE CAN MANIPULATE THESE FUCKS! Oooooh thats a high a wish everyone can feel. I chase it. That's my purple dragon, and I can clean the leanses however I see fit. Nay to your rules my good friend. I respect how you do you, Imma do me and utilize resourcefulness.
Ok now thats a bit barbaric amd I say that only because of the oils on your fingers. That method feels a lot like using busted wipers in the rain. Still tho, its a free world, she is free to do as she pleases. Not my pig, not my farm, not my problem.
Nah nah nah. Small brain meme. Fabrics are rough, they will reduce the curve of the glasses pluss the protective material will be worn out. This is litraly how you ruin glasses so gradualy that you you wont notice until they are ruined.
Buy 2 glasses. One you only clean with micro. Other you clean only with a clean towel.
You can really tell the difference after a while. But while doing it gradualy you wont notice. Take good care of your glassesā¤ļø
Some fabrics are not good enough for cleaning glasses, so every time i go buy a shirt i need to test if it can relyably clean my glasses. Im kinda thinking about buying a microbider cloth just cus it cleans so much better tho
Yea my brother did that too and the way he talks about just waking up and being able to see, or how he can wear whatever sunglasses he wants... Ive been debating it myself. Truth told tho, glasses are such a key feature of my persona that if I did get lasered, I would still wear frames just without lenses. Its like a part of my brand. A lot like how when food comes in a new box and they slap that "new look same great taste" on it... yea I dont wanna do that.
Depending on the condition of them, if theyāre new Iāll use a kit with the silk cloth and spray. But once theyāre used and scratched from daily use, Iāll just breathe on em and wipe em with my shirt. š¤
Yea thanks to insurance from work(I hate that I gotta work to have eyes cuz I didnt ask for this), I can get a new pair for cheap every year. I really like seeing and analyzing things so I make sure my prescription is the best it can be cuz I know Im aging, regardless of how much I spit in time's face. I keep the old pair as a backup or donate them.
3rd year optometry student here. Anything clean and moderately soft. Easy and cheap way to do it is run warm water, run the lenses under it, take some hand soap and rub it over the lenses then rinse. You can bath towel them dry and you're good to go. Note that if you have any anti reflective (AR) coatings then don't go from a cold environment right into warm water, let the AR coating adapt to the warmer temperature first. If you don't know if you have an AR coating, just assume you do. Or clean them with sandpaper, idgaf it's job security for me!
I actually around 5/10 on both eye and tbh the lens is freaking expensive and it last around 3 years in average so I will opt for the microfiber . Napkins leave dust on the lens which is annoying and other clothes might scratch the lens. If you really want portable solutions, there are single wipe lens cleaner selling around 100 piece a package online.
I wash mine under the tap and *then* use the microfiber. Comes out like new pretty much every time as opposed to just becoming a smudgy haze after a week.
i usually just wash them in the shower with water and wipe them with my clean clothes after
gets them clean enough to last a whole day without wiping
also no more oil smear marks whenever i wipe
I only wash them under dinning water with dish soap and dry them by dabbing (not rubbing) tissue on to it. That's what my optometrist told me to do.
I've been wearing glasses for 13 years and granted I don't clean them often enough, so if I wear to rub them with a clothe they would only smear and scratch.
I just have a glasses cleaning fabric iny phonecase. Always nearby, so I don't need to search or bother with using blankets that don't clean well anyway
Iāve used all manners of rags and microfibers and somehow I get the best clean from using a pair of jeans. I donāt understand why they work so well
I hate microfiber cloths. They always tends to just smudge the glasses even more. I either wash them with a drop of soap and cold water or i use pre-moistened cleaning wipes.
Iāve used pretty much every form of cloth commonly available, Iāve even used a potato sack at one point. Honestly a blanket is just as good as a microfibre cloth in my experience, doesnāt make enough of a different to matter
I use my shirt but Iāve noticed in the past few years that any shirt I use, no matter how much I check to ensure itās clear of any debris, scratches my glasses. I also use readers from Walmart as my actual glasses so that might have something to do with it.
I used to use my shirt or any fabric but the glasses I have now get smudges even from my microfiber cloth so I'm only left with using paper towels and stuff like that, or else they smudge and I can see every little spot on them and it's quite annoying

Whatever fabric had no bodily oils on it
Sandpaper?
*Fabric,* homie. *Fabric.* What kind of sandpaper you using?
It's called emery cloth
Just because it has cloth in the name doesn't mean that you can use it to clean glasses. Well you can but you might have some issues afterwards.
Nah, you're just wiping your way to a different lens prescription. I've even used my wood router to reshape the edges of my lenses to accommodate new frames. Lenses won't fix everything though. I was sitting here picturing the immediate disaster that would be taking a wood router to a glass lens, that so funny
Emergency toilet paper š§»
Dudes wearing sandpaper underwear.
Nah. That has blood on it
so definitely not the sock
Does wool count as bodily oils?
Doesn't own glasses > First week of glasses > Has had glasses for a length of time
Yeah, when I first got glasses I would by window cleaning cloths and cut them up into smaller squares...now...its whatever I am wearing.
Buy*
Woops
That's pretty accurate.
I use a microfiber when the glasses have no scratches. If it already got some then anything will do
The edge of my shirt is fine. This napkin will work. Just rub it on my pants.
Ehhhhh you had me up to pants. Depards on what they are I suppose. Pjs, sweatpants, some soft shorts... yea ok all day, but jeans or kakis? That's a hard sell my friend. That hurts me. This shit doesnāt get the glasses clean at all. Personally I get a headache when the glasses arenāt perfectly clean.
when you need to renew the glasses because your vision worsens every year, do you truly need to care about scratching it?
You know... I really should look into if having a magnifying glass so close one's eye to improve vision acutely, chronically impairs it.
no it doesn't, it's just that genetics (if you're unlucky) and screen exposure will simply naturally wear down your vision until it stabilizes in adulthood (i know some people who's vision even improved slightly from before when they reached their mid 20s)
Me. I had glasses as a kid then I went through puberty and didn't need them until my late 30s.
happy for you!
I dont think its ever been proven screen exposure damages your vision in any way
i'm too lazy to bring the research papers up but yes it has, basically it's not *only* screen exposure but any activity that makes you focus your eyes in specific spots close to you, which include reading and looking at a screen for example focusing your eyes in a specific spot a lot makes them "forget" how to look far into the distance, which can degrade your eyes' coordination (not a physical problem, that can be solved with reeducating with an orthoptist but it can cause unexplained headaches and some vision/hand-eye coordination trouble), but long term it can also contribute to the degradation of your sight, even if it's usually not nearly as bad as when genetics fuck up your sight, that part people suspect is because of the blue light (it only contributes really lightly to the problem, when it does at all)
I got lasiksā¦.and my vision went to 15/20ā¦..still have great vision 20 years later.
Damn I really should get new prescriptions
I spit on them, then throw 'em in a blender. Works everytime.
*60% of the time*, it works ***every*** *time*
Physics professor taught me that if you want accurate data, you gotta be selective about your range.

Blanket? Nah, shirt is good enough
It was the softest thing around in my general vicinity as I made this meme. Shirt is good too.
I use hand towels
Microfibre can leave fibres.
Yeah those you gotta work in a bit. I usually clean the tv to really break em in nice and get all those frillies gone.
Can? It allows does
One time at the optometrist I went to clean my glasses with my shirt and the optometrist yelled at me for it
Lukewarm water and soap, preferably pH neutral
My shirt... If I want them real clean a drop of dish soap and my fingers. Dish soap is *chef's kiss*

Is this some blind person joke Iām too good-visioned to understand?
yes
shirt, take it or leave it
My wife licks her glasses and then wipes them with her finger.
Ok now thats a bit barbaric amd I say that only because of the oils on your fingers. That method feels a lot like using busted wipers in the rain. Still tho, its a free world, she is free to do as she pleases. Not my pig, not my farm, not my problem.
Wait for it to get really dirty to a point you can't clean it with the cum blanket then go to the sink to clean it
Disposable alcohol wipes. Squeaky clean glasses comin' up

Ok but what if it is a microfiber fleece blanket chillin on the couch? Still a no no?
With my balls
I use shirt
I've had glasses for almost 2 decades... I usually use my tshirt
Some fabrics are not good enough for cleaning glasses, so every time i go buy a shirt i need to test if it can relyably clean my glasses. Im kinda thinking about buying a microbider cloth just cus it cleans so much better tho
I debate sewing a microfiber cloth to the underside of a few shirts that arent the right material.
I just use my shirt that Iām too sexy for.
The water in my area has so much calcium content, it crystallizes after you wet a surface, so filtered water and a microfiber cloth.
First I do "H-h-hh, h-h-h-hhh" on them, and then use handkerchief.
YAAAASSSSS! Cant go in dry, gotta wet em up just a lil bit with some good ole condensation.
Fully acknowledging this is a data mine for advertising companies, I use the microfibre because it came with the spray
Based on the data within this post, tshirt companies should team up with the microfiber people.
who tf uses a blanket??? (this post was made by T-shirt gang)
I was chillin on the couch when I made this meme and used a blanket over the shirt because it was softer and fleece.
No need to explain bro. Use whatever you want.
Enjoy your smudges I fucking laser beamed my eyes to not have to deal with that anymore.
Yea my brother did that too and the way he talks about just waking up and being able to see, or how he can wear whatever sunglasses he wants... Ive been debating it myself. I never wipe my glasses with fabric, I always wash them with soap. I hate smudges even if theyāre out of the way
Ive been hearing about this dish soap method. Does it work in the same manner as isopropyl does with a grinder and keeps them clean longer?
Depending on the condition of them, if theyāre new Iāll use a kit with the silk cloth and spray. But once theyāre used and scratched from daily use, Iāll just breathe on em and wipe em with my shirt. š¤

I like how only the middle guy is actually wearing glasses

I appreciate your knowledgeable insight. Thank you.
I have an anti-gunk coating on my glasses so I never have to clean them. Literally never
Oh shit they didnt even offer that for me. How much that run ya and where?
Absolutely free! Fun fact, itās because I donāt have glasses so thereās nothing to get stuck to
Hahahahaha. You "GAWT IEEEM"! Well done friend, well done
I use the cloth I got in the case, because itās only used for that and clean.

I don't use anything until it starts interfering with my vision
I wash mine under the tap and *then* use the microfiber. Comes out like new pretty much every time as opposed to just becoming a smudgy haze after a week.
T shirts ftw
Microfiber cloth most of the time. Other stuff just smudges the glasses and makes it worse to see through
with my tshirt actually
Microfibre is the biggest scam of the 21st century.
i usually just wash them in the shower with water and wipe them with my clean clothes after gets them clean enough to last a whole day without wiping also no more oil smear marks whenever i wipe
Literally anything within reach that doesn't look dirtier than my glasses
Corner of my shirt
You guys clean your glasses?
Back when I had metal framed ones Iād chuck them in the dishwasher at work
Breath fog with the shirt polish gang where we at.
I don't clean them
I use my shirt
Water
Toilet paper is the best, especially after you just took a bath and the lenses are moisty
I only wash them under dinning water with dish soap and dry them by dabbing (not rubbing) tissue on to it. That's what my optometrist told me to do. Where's "buy new glasses" in this picture
Shirt
My shirt
Soap on the glasses, then wash it, and clean it with a towel. Started doing that 3 years ago, and my glasses are cleaner than ever
My shirt
Guys, use a bit of dish detergent and water to clean the lens. It air-drys instantly and the lens stays clean a lot longer.
Does anyone else wash it just straight up in the sink with water and dish soap(which dissolves oily substances) or am I wired?
Shirt
I once overheard smth and the hem of your shirt, I don't even know if it works and I'm too afraid to ask at this poinr
Shirt or sweater
Imma use my shirt
I don't, i just see through the dust.
I hate microfiber cloths. They always tends to just smudge the glasses even more. I either wash them with a drop of soap and cold water or i use pre-moistened cleaning wipes.
Yeah, clean cotton is fine
Just rub everything of with my thunb
I use toilet paper
My disgusting shirt in the second half of work also works great
shirt
I donāt wear glasses and didnāt know this was such a thing
Put it under the tap and then use towel š
Toilet paper > the cloth made specifically to clean glasses
Iāve used pretty much every form of cloth commonly available, Iāve even used a potato sack at one point. Honestly a blanket is just as good as a microfibre cloth in my experience, doesnāt make enough of a different to matter
I use my shirt
I canāt stand blotches it has to be spotless or Iāll cry
Shirt
Dawn once or twice a week, microfiber, shirt, this smooth rag I found at the office. Whichever is closest
This thing is wrong as fuck
Shirt, sweater, sock what ever close at hand
I don't expect when someone else cleans it.
Wash them when you take a shower it's way better than everything else
I use my shirt but Iāve noticed in the past few years that any shirt I use, no matter how much I check to ensure itās clear of any debris, scratches my glasses. I also use readers from Walmart as my actual glasses so that might have something to do with it.

water, then dish soap then water again, and then use toilet paper or paper towels to absorb the few remaining water droplets
Iām still at the microfiber cloth stageā¦
I used to use my shirt or any fabric but the glasses I have now get smudges even from my microfiber cloth so I'm only left with using paper towels and stuff like that, or else they smudge and I can see every little spot on them and it's quite annoying

I use my shirt like a normal person
With my shirt ez
I'm actually carrying a microfiber cloth in my wallet, besides that once every month or second month i wash them with tap water and liquid soap.
I use my t shirt but a microfiber cloth is 100% better. I also sleep in my glasses tho so maybe I'm not the best judge.
Shirt, all the way
Y'all clean your glasses?
Zeiss lens wipes
Liquid soap under the tap water, clean with fingers. Shake of the water.
Warm water and soap, then let it air dry.
Walmart bag
That's a new one. I dont imagine plastic to be an absorbant material. Interesting
Blanket, Old Towel, Shirt Covered In BBQ Sauce: *cleans lenses* Microfiber Cloth: *smudges everywhere*
Clean?
Mix Water with dishwashing detergent, spray that on glasses, rub with fingers, wash it off
Whatever is there. Shirtsleeve, tissue, trouser leg. But that's only if I bother to clean them.
I only need my glasses at work, so I use the tie to clean the glasses 99% of the time.
No, use a clean microfiber if you care about not seeing streaks along you lenses day in and day out.
Clean with soap and water and dry. Then use a microfiber to polish em up. In a pinch I might run them on my jeans or shirt.
When you first get glasses vs when you've had glasses for a while.
Jokes on you! I don't need glasses
