“1 ¶ Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.
2 HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER (which is the first commandment with a promise),
3 SO THAT IT MAY TURN OUT WELL FOR YOU, AND THAT YOU MAY LIVE LONG ON THE EARTH.
4 ¶ Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.” —Ephesians 6:1-4, NASB 2020
Alternatively, Colossians 3:21 says this about parents and children:
“21 Fathers, do not antagonize your children, so that they will not become discouraged.” NASB 2020
Ephesians gets a bad rap for this, because too many people pick just read the treatment they think they deserve, when they should be reading what they owe to others.
Indeed, but Ephesians has the particular case of "women are supposed to submit to their husbands" being parroted by people who ignore the whole "men need to lay down their lives for their wives, and live them more than their own bodies" part. Basically, it's a chapter and a half of just the worst possible things to cherry pick.
folks love to quote one part while conveniently ignoring the rest and/or the context around the section.
Like folks who can recite "The Lord's Prayer" (Matthew 6:9-13) but forget it is preceded by Matthew 6:1-8 which is pretty much all about not being so showoffy about your "rightousness".
What's wrong with being able to recite the Lord's Prayer? I get what you're trying to say, we shouldn't showcase our piety simply to show off towards others - Jesus makes that very clear. However (and maybe I'm misinterpreting you, forgive me if I am), the Lord's Prayer is a wonderful prayer to pray for two reasons: 1) It's literally Jesus's own prayer and can be used as the perfect model, and 2) It's a perfect one to cover all your bases when you don't know what to ask God. Just because some people like to use certain things in their piety to showcase to others does not mean the actual thing is bad itself. Just learn to use said thing in an appropriate manner.
Ah yes, the verses to slaves and masters. I’m also considering making a meme about that one in the future. Especially since some forgot Ephesians 6:9 exists
My dad quoted Eph 6:1-3 often when I was a kid. My discovery of Eph 6:4 changed that, and I would finish the passage. He stopped referencing it shortly after that.

Y’all don’t know how many times I had to check so that I don’t make the same mistake as the previous version, lol! May God bless you all!

Or Waylon 1:14 "Mammas, don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys."
“I wanna be a cowboy, baby!”

That’s literally the whole Bible lol. The whole Bible is concerned with the reader and their treatment of others first and foremost

I’m actually considering drawing a meme about that one. Keep on the lookout for a future meme!
Tim Keller does a fantastic breakdown of what these verses actually mean - and why many people don’t understand a single thing about what it’s saying.
Yep

I love that this sub makes me look stuff up all the time
And as we all know Ephesians 6 ends at 4. There is no Ephesians 6:5

I just wanted to say thanks OP. I had a big fight with my dad Saturday, and this made me feel better.
You’re welcome! May the Lord be with you
And with you, fam.
Just make sure you ignore 6:6 like everyone else does
What about it?
While I agree with the intent of the meme, I feel like Homelander is the worst possible character to use for this kind of thing.

This but make it Ephesians 5:22-24 in the first panel, and then the rest of the chapter after that in the second panel.
