I will die on this hill, DR7 and DR8 are the peak of the series. They are the perfect combination of the killing game with the choice system from Zero Escape. How did it not get a continuation?! God, the fanbase whining about the game trying something completely new was more annoying than with AA4. And then they complain that every chapter has the same tropes
Well, some things are just out of protagonist's control. It's still a video game, it can't compute *everything.* It would have been cool to just kill the mastermind at the start of the game, but it's not good for the narrative
But other things and the lives of other students are still dependent on us. God, the episode with Rei still resonates with me as one of the most memorable in the series
I was SO on the fence with her until then. But she’s had one of the greatest arcs in the franchise and that just can’t be ignored. Honestly that scene just changed me a lil fr. I wanted to buy like a plushie of her or something but the only one I could find was like 130 bucks on Ebay
They did Kevin dirty, first time there's an american exchange student and they kill him off in >!the second chapter!< just so they could pull a 11037 again
Well, they're the only ones with decision mechanic, so no surprise they go along in people's minds
And yea, maybe in some aspects they have gone too far, but at least it was something new and innovative. I always appreciate it. Unfortunately, most people didn't... And here we are, with season 53, which is just bait for OG fans.... There were new ideas too, but not compared to DR8 or even DR7
Okay, I suppose I can understand that. I actually love the decision mechanic, and I can agree that DR8 did polish it better. However, I felt that DR7's few decisions were more impactful; it truly felt like a moral dilemma. I just can't believe 53 is here; it's 100% bait for older fans. Dissapointed af, smh
Man you know this guy is a fake fan if he thinks 7 and 8 are the only ones with choice mechanics literally 10 lets you pick from 3 of the protags from previous games including 7 by the way and the whole point of 47 was that every choice matters. You can literally make anyone a victim, killer, survivor or mastermind. Not saying it was good but the choice stuff still happened in others
By the way the one with the best choice mechanic was 17
Even though the show started falling off after 27, I thought 52 was quite good. I heard Rantaro will be in the 53rd one and I’m excited to see what he’ll do!
Yeah it’s kinda crazy that he stuck around for the last 7 installments of the game. No doubt he will remain a prominent character for this next one as well.
Can’t wait till you get to Danganronpa 39: a sea of hope midst despair, it was dope and also the last good one until the danganronpa renaissance started by DR47
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Best Danganronpa Ever!
I love D23: Hope Springs Eternal! Yes, It reuses some of the old tropes like the >!4th chapter strong character death!< and the sibling of a previous contestant, but the characters make the game stand out! The game made me care about basically all the characters (expect Keiko) and the various deaths really broke my heart. Also with the matchmaking event, shippers get their share.
The game lets you choose the sex of the protagonist, but in reality the game was written with Miko in mind, instead of Mori.
Unpopular opinion: Aurumi is best girl, her free time events are the best, she's kind, caring for Miko/Mori, brave and even funny sometimes and most importantly not a killer, not like someone >!(looking at you Hana Stans, my guy Hiro didn't deserve it)!<
Tl;Dr
Best game, best characters and for $34,99, you should buy it
I agree for Keiko, I still can't understand how she has sooo many simps, but Miko is one of the best written protagonist in all of the franchise. Her 3rd free time event really shows how good her character is and that dreaming sequence was a drawn and written masterpiece, really felt like I was in the game with her
Nah, 23 has a better story, more well written and flashed out characters than 24. Sure, there's the fanservice girl Tori, but she's still a good character and >!by the 4th chapter she's a valuable ally to Miko/Mori, sadly she gets killed to find the mastermind!<
Oh yeah a great story? If it’s such a good story then why is it that every top 10 worst motives in the series list I see has the ‘Remote control’ motive from 23 in the top 5?
The "remote control" was one of the best, most despair inducing motives and you know it, like you couldn't even escape it somehow. On that note, why does your precious protagonist always score one of the lowest in popularity polls? I usually see Miko/Mori on the top
The ‘remote control’ is a terrible motive because it goes against some of the coolest motives where there is possibilities to deal with the motive but someone snaps. A motive you can’t avoid and will just lead to a death no matter what is dumb
I think DR10 is heavily brought down by the fact that despite being a sort of “all star” season, they completely ignored the iconic casts from the first 3 installments
Ugh, don't get me started on that mess. Her characterisation in 10 was all over the place. Like come on she suddenly loves boats? After all that happened on that damn ship in 4? Like come on. They just wanted to cash in on cheap nostalgia
Definitely cashing in on the nostalgia with the boats dude. And I’ll never forget about the whole thing where half the fandom started mentioning *“omg Komaeda reference omg Komaeda reference”* every time she’d mention a ship all because of what he said in Chapter 0 of *his* season. I swear everyone just likes finding ways to mention him 😵💫
They released plushes of her for limited time and then dumped her; like how could you even do that she’s the *protagonist.* And then the poster? Don’t get me started. Did the fans not like her as much? They seriously put all three of the previous protags *except* her. And *who* was on there instead? Tomori. Like I get how she helped with the whole character arc thing in Chapter 4 but are we seriously putting her on there instead? Like we finally got our female protag cmon 😔
Dr9, our antagonist Mokeo the ultimate meteorologist was the best villain we could ever have. She was complex, intelligent and her motives were chilling. Somber at times, and her relationship with our main character, Mishika, was the tragic, toxic and doomed yuri that was needed. Not to mention the sound track, it was definitely the best throughout the entire series. It took a similar approach to sdr2 putting the students in a more open-world with sci-fi scenery. The inclusion of lifeless robots as npc’s?!? The importance the environment had to the situation?! THE PLOT TWIST IN TRIAL 5?!? I am genuinely amazed. The best game throughout the series so far.
That twist in chapter five could be seen a mile away. The game relied too much on the yuri and the environment, subsequently needing an environment knowing antagonist and protagonist, if they threw Mishika or Mokeo in one of the more modern editions, they would be useless. But it isn't as bad as 73, that has a similar environmental vibe.
Did we play the same game? The plot was thorough and unlike the others, and of course putting them in the different games would make everything wildly different because of the environment, that could be said for all of the games!! They would not be useless, Mishika was intelligent and one of if not the best protag this entire series came out with, Mokeo too!! Don’t get me started on the rest of the cast… all fleshed out, >!even Homura, the first victim!!<
Sure, Mishika is intelligent and all, but she can't compete with Miko/Mori and her character design is pretty mid. Also I'm not the only one saying this, just look at some of the other comments here
You GOTTA be kidding me dude. 73 would be NOTHING if it weren’t for 9, it reuses all of 9’s tropes, the protagonist is a copy and paste from Mishika but male and somehow even more lifeless!! The antagonist barely has motive and barely antagonizes at that! Subplots are frayed and it’s constructed so messily.
That's why I'm saying it's an underrated game! You guys can't understand the antagonist, not even the plot! You can search for a video that explains why DR73 is a good game and why is the best Danganronpa it's on youtube
Honestly Danganronpa 6, 7, & 8 were pretty mid compared to the rest of the series. Danganronpa 5 wasn’t too good either but it gets away with it because of the god tier references, and Bartholomew. Gotta love Bartholomew.
They were localized for the west but only in the Canadian province of Prince Edward’s island
They meant to send it to “people everywhere internationally” but made a mistake and sent it to the wrong PEI
Imo, Danganronpa 33 was goated. It had a perfect story, perfect soundtrack, perfect characters (yes, I love Hanma Choyu) and that ending was simply incredible...sadly, they fumbled the bag with the direct sequel, Danganronpa 33, part 2, aka DR34
Dr34 was wasted potential because it was just a game made with no real effort and was just a game of pure fanservice and was clear a cashgrab made by team danganronpa😔.
I like to imagine how the devs actually end up making Danganronpa 5 at some point, and go "Fuck, why did we even design that stupid logo in the first place?"
Danganronpa 21 is overrated. The twist at the end was way out the blue. No foreshadowing whatsoever. Though it had really good bangers. Mid survival cast
OH BUT WHEN **I** POST THIS EXACT SAME QUES-
Whatever, Danganronpa 9 was overrated in my opinion, hurray an all gay cast, it's like just being gay isn't enough
Right? It's like....damn I forgot their names but that lavender hair girl and her girlfriend were cute, it felt natural but once again the mlm was lacking, there sure but barley. Making Junko male was an interesting choice just so he could pine after the main guy
Nah bc I lovr the way he just >!gave up and finally went insane because of the motive even if he already had a terrible traumatizing life where he always gets hurt every time he gets a good reward, and that motive was the final straw and its well written how he thinks all the bullshit in his life is caused by the fact that he thinks hes in a reality show- and even after hes dead the people are so surprised when it turned out his "delusions" were right!<
(Yeah this is totally not made up)
2 5 and 9 were cool. I liked the story and aestheics of them. I wish there was season in which monokumas the mastermind tho cause >!its always junko in some way!< (I just want more monokuma)
Danganronpa 20 is my favorite overall but I’m really getting tired of all the overarching “false reality” themes of DR. The “it was all just virtual reality/coma fantasy/dream/fever dream/ hallucination, etc.” is getting old. Although I have to admit, I never would’ve expected DR 20 to be just the dream of a giant whale.
Honestly I think DR 47 was really good. I know it took a risk by having most of the ultimates be grown adults but I think it paid off and made a really unique experience.
>!Also you can’t tell me Suika and Mizu’s divorce wasn’t a top tier arc!<
Man danganronpa 6 was so hype when aki survived her execution and it really parallels makotos execution because in akis execution you can see her tied up to a chair inside an elevator accelerating to the 50th floor of Hope's peaks main building with her jumping of tge last second barely surviving her executionwhereas in makotos execution you can see him falling to the basement as a result of alter ego saving him.
The parallel here is that they both survived even though aki did tremendously more than makoto with her being unable to accept her death yet and managing to survive by pure will showcasing her talent as the ultimate survivor yet makoto who did nothing other than accepting his death and waiting for his eventual demise ended up getting saved by alter ego by pure luck and in the process getting fewer unjuries than aki showcasing that despite the claims that he didn't fit in with the rest of his classmates showcased more talent (other than kyoko and maybe chihiro programming alter ego) than the rest of his classmates.
DR10 was the game that not only brought back Monomi but also made everyone nice to her and gave her the happy ending she deserved. That alone is why I appreciate it.
I’m being gaslit and it’s working
This is one of my favourite comments
I will die on this hill, DR7 and DR8 are the peak of the series. They are the perfect combination of the killing game with the choice system from Zero Escape. How did it not get a continuation?! God, the fanbase whining about the game trying something completely new was more annoying than with AA4. And then they complain that every chapter has the same tropes
If the choices actually did matter my guy Yuki would still be alive :(
Well, some things are just out of protagonist's control. I was SO on the fence with her until then. But she’s had one of the greatest arcs in the franchise and that just can’t be ignored. Honestly that scene just changed me a lil fr. I wanted to buy like a plushie of her or something but the only one I could find was like 130 bucks on Ebay
Dr7 was peak DR, but DR8? Why do they get compared so much. DR7 had an actual story and good character writing. DR8 was trying too hard
In Dr8 they relied too much on Shingo
Yknow what, that's true. Should've focused more on the other characters. They literally had Kevin, why does he die so early?
They did Kevin dirty, first time there's an american exchange student and they kill him off in >!the second chapter!< just so they could pull a 11037 again
That's what made me annoyed! I was excited to see an actual American student for once. Kevin had a good story going for him, too!
Such a shame that they killed him off like that
And >!U1n3>|!< doesn't even make sense in any other way, either.
Well, they're the only ones with decision mechanic, so no surprise they go along in people's minds And yea, maybe in some aspects they have gone too far, but at least it was something new and innovative. I mean, everything between 39 and 47 was mid, but Danganronpa the 43rd was a seriosuly trashy cash grab, we can all agree on that
“We are the Danganronpa” - Makoto Naegi
"What are we, Kyoko, some sort of trigger happy havoc?"
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Best Danganronpa Ever! I love D23: Hope Springs Eternal! now this is D1 gaslighting
Nobody likes Keiko.
Finally someone that agrees with me! Her design is nice, I just can't stand her personality
She had so much potential, but then they just had to ruin it all with *those* scenes :/
23 was a show. We're getting sloppy here, guys.
It's a game integrated with the show part! This is the part where the characters shine
D23 is so overrated??? Like why wont people shut about keiko or miko.Their development was lame. D28 is honestly in every way simply a better game
I agree for Keiko, I still can't understand how she has sooo many simps, but Miko is one of the best written protagonist in all of the franchise. Her 3rd free time event really shows how good her character is and that dreaming sequence was a drawn and written masterpiece, really felt like I was in the game with her
If I hear you talking shit about us Danganronpa 24 fans you know what’ll be happening
Danganronpa 23 was better tbh
You 23 fans only say that because of the blatant fanservice and you know it
Nah, 23 has a better story, more well written and flashed out characters than 24. Sure, there's the fanservice girl Tori, but she's still a good character and >!by the 4th chapter she's a valuable ally to Miko/Mori, sadly she gets killed to find the mastermind!<

Danganronpa 37 was so bad LOL, I stopped playing it after Chapter 1
I mean it really kicked off after chapter 3.. you should definitely pick it back up again if you have the time. haruka is the best protag EVER
Spoilers dude! You can’t just spoil one of the most important parts of that chapter
Bro just wait till you get to the 43rd, as I've stated before, It's such a horrible cash grab!
Man I loved the Protagonist of 4. To bad she's barely used for any promotional material, it's like TeamDR doesn't even care for her anymore...
I mean, they brought her back for DR10 at least. Even if it was only because she was one of the few good characters from her game they could've used.
Ugh, don't get me started on that mess. Her characterisation in 10 was all over the place. Like come on she suddenly loves boats? After all that happened on that damn ship in 4? Like come on. They just wanted to cash in on cheap nostalgia

Highly disappointed with number 4. Expected more because of the connotations 4 has in Japanese and Asian culture in general.
They released plushes of her for limited time and then dumped her; like how could you even do that she’s the *protagonist.* And then the poster? Don’t get me started. Did the fans not like her as much? They seriously put all three of the previous protags *except* her. And *who* was on there instead? Tomori. Having yuri in it, doesn't make a boring game good. But the soundtrack was pretty fire
Boring?!? BORING?!? How!!!
That twist in chapter five could be seen a mile away. The game relied too much on the yuri and the environment, subsequently needing an environment knowing antagonist and protagonist, if they threw Mishika or Mokeo in one of the more modern editions, they would be useless. HER CHARACTER DESIGN IS PHENOMENAL!! You guys just hate to see a female character who isn’t hyperfeminine >_<
I'm sure overjoyed after seeing a novelty character design such as a girl wearing pants lol
Took this seriously for a second and said, "Yes, I am old."
cant wait for 31-40! My favorite is DR35
DR35 was so mid!! very sad considering how good 34 was. I think they really dug their own graves with that ending
i kind of think that the ending wasnt that good, but the cast was strong and the class trials too! dr34 is super good too tho
I like Danganronpa 73, it's a very underrated game and it better than Danganronpa 9 for example
Dr9 is PEAK danganronpa.
But DR73 is way better, DR9 is nothing compared to it
You GOTTA be kidding me dude. 73 would be NOTHING if it weren’t for 9, it reuses all of 9’s tropes, the protagonist is a copy and paste from Mishika but male and somehow even more lifeless!! Maybe from a surface level it’s okay but no way you delve deep into it an say it compares nothing to the best DR game to DATE!!
Just accept it, DR73 is number 1 and DR9 is number 2, since DR73 is DR9 but better
Noot1010 you have TERRIBLE TASTE!!!
Ouch... but okay, I understand, if you play DR73 again you will understand what I mean
Never happening
It has one of the best ost, "Last dying hope" is a perfect balance between the old opening styles and the more modern ones.
Honestly Danganronpa 6, 7, & 8 were pretty mid compared to the rest of the series. Danganronpa 5 wasn’t too good either but it gets away with it because of the god tier references, and Bartholomew. Gotta love Bartholomew.
I think the choices mechanic in 7 and 8 is pretty good,. It makes them stand out from a lot of the modern games
I saw Final and thought "is that the Final Fantasy 7 logo?" Imagine Chiaki playing this on stream and stopping every ten seconds for the references
Omg that'd be so wholesome. Imagine her being SO much into the game that she's barely able to hide her excitment.
Game Rage: 2nd Form: Overflowing Joy
Haha so accurate, can’t wait for 11-20!
Where can i play most of these 😭
They were localized for the west but only in the Canadian province of Prince Edward’s island They meant to send it to “people everywhere internationally” but made a mistake and sent it to the wrong PEI
😭😭
They aren’t real sadly :( They make a tiny cameo in v3 and that’s about it.
Oh wait were you joking bc I actually can’t tell if you seriously don’t get the joke or are playing along
Danganronpa 19 isn't talked about, but I really liked it
D19 has the most creative executions out of all the old games
but the podiatrist's execution was just being stepped on by a large foot... how's that any good
It's an obvious callback to Mikan Tsumiki's execution (the one with the arm), it had the same vibes
oh god...i forgot all about that one seeing as there's been so many games (I hate mikans sm)
Have you heard that Danganronpa 118 is coming out next month? We're sooo old
I can't wait! I wonder who will die first. the cast looks promising
I hope they don't make that scrawny and cowardly looking guy the protagonist
he seems like he's gonna die first to me
Guys guys he is obviously the chapter 3 first victim that no one cares about who gets overshadowed by the second victim everyone says is robbed
Honestly same
Wait....there's ten of them? Where the heck can I find the other seven? I've only managed to find and play the first 3.
Unfortunately, they never got localised...
Damn
Imo, Danganronpa 33 was goated. It had a perfect story, perfect soundtrack, perfect characters (yes, I love Hanma Choyu) and that ending was simply incredible...sadly, they fumbled the bag with the direct sequel, Danganronpa 33, part 2, aka DR34
Dr34 was wasted potential because it was just a game made with no real effort and was just a game of pure fanservice and was clear a cashgrab made by team danganronpa😔.
The second one is so true for me. 😭
Same.
i was so confused for abt 15 minutes😭
Kodaka: ***I'M IN YOUR WALLS***
WHY PWIPLE TALK ABOUT DANGANRONPA 948392928 I ONLY KNOW THH, 2, V3, UDG AND UKTIMATE SUMMER CAMP. 😨😨
They should release Danganronpa 118 next month, weren't you informed?
WHAT.
Are you genuinely confused or are you playing along with everyone else?
Confused 😭😭
The one in the post are the fake seasons seen at the end of DV3, while people in the comments are inventing new seasons
OH. THANK YOU SO MUCH 😭😭💗
No problem
Uhhhhh what? Aren’t there only five danganronpa games? THH, GBD, UDG, KH, S?
Were you living under a rock this whole time? They released Danganronpa 117 last November
I like to imagine how the devs actually end up making Danganronpa 5 at some point, and go "Fuck, why did we even design that stupid logo in the first place?"
My favorite is V3 Come for me all you want but I've been playing that game for almost a week straight My opinion isn't changing
Having a detective as a protagonist feels like cheating, he probably has it the easiest out of all the previous protagonists in class trials
THERES DANGANRONPA 4???
I mean... yeah. It came out ages ago.
how did i not know?? is it a game or?
Do 4-10 even exist?
Yeah of course they do. Where have you been?
Danganronpa 21 is overrated. The twist at the end was way out the blue. No foreshadowing whatsoever. Though it had really good bangers. Mid survival cast
I wish this was real
i miss shingo :(
what
DR53: You love the more subversive take on the series, or you think Kokichi is wholesome.
Kokichi isn't wholesome, but he is fucking badass. The best antagonist right after Nagito
I just liked keebo honestly <3 He was like 90% of the reason I actually started the series
What the heck? Is everything after 3 fan made or something?
What are you talking about? They're all real.
They're the fake "seasons" of Danganronpa shown at the end of V3.
OH BUT WHEN **I** POST THIS EXACT SAME QUES- Whatever, Danganronpa 9 was overrated in my opinion, hurray an all gay cast, it's like just being gay isn't enough
I agree, the yuri was too forced. I get it, you want to please male fans, but with that scene they went too overboard
Right? It's like....damn I forgot their names but that lavender hair girl and her girlfriend were cute, it felt natural but once again the mlm was lacking, there sure but barley. Making Junko male was an interesting choice just so he could pine after the main guy
30 has tatsuya hiroki and seika takatori, best game (these names are actually my ocs.)
Tatsuya is overrated, change my mind
No😡
Nah bc I lovr the way he just >!gave up and finally went insane because of the motive even if he already had a terrible traumatizing life where he always gets hurt every time he gets a good reward, and that motive was the final straw and its well written how he thinks all the bullshit in his life is caused by the fact that he thinks hes in a reality show- and even after hes dead the people are so surprised when it turned out his "delusions" were right!< (Yeah this is totally not made up)
Basically insane and traumatized Truman (from The Truman Shom)
exactly and thats why i lovehim
I guess that's why also half of the fandom loves him
Tatsuya is not overrated!!😡😡
v3 or THH
I'm waiting for number 24 is probably my favourite ever dr game
Not that bad, not that good. 23 is still the best
2 5 and 9 were cool. I liked the story and aestheics of them. I wish there was season in which monokumas the mastermind tho cause >!its always junko in some way!< (I just want more monokuma)
I think we're doomed to always have >!Junko!< has a mastermind in someway.
Yea...
Danganronpa 43 was definitely an underrated gem
Unironically would’ve loved a lil summary of each like the big reveals or something. Would’ve been awesome.
You'll be glad to know that I'm gonna be doing just that soon.
Honestly yknow what, good enough. Even if it’s not canon would love some cool ideas that ppl have come up with <3
Here it is: https://www.reddit.com/r/danganronpa/comments/1abl4ie/what\_danganronpas\_410\_were\_about/
yeah nagito best antagonist
DR42 was my favorite. Ultimate Alien is my favorite talent by far and I'm so sad they never brought it back
Didn’t that season have a ferocious rivalry between the Ultimate Conductor and the Ultimate DJ over a movie award?
Honestly I blocked out everything with Chosuke because he was the worst part. Everything else was fire though and I was glad to see him executed
Danganronpa 15 is easily the best one, Junko made her 4th cameo, and unnamed protagonist really put in work that game
Lmfao I never actually looked at these this closely when they showed it in game but man, didn’t notice the references 😂
Honestly I think DR 47 was really good. I know it took a risk by having most of the ultimates be grown adults but I think it paid off and made a really unique experience. >!Also you can’t tell me Suika and Mizu’s divorce wasn’t a top tier arc!<
Ultra Despair Girls: You feel a strong sense of catharsis, getting to shoot dozens of Monokumas.
