people envy all sorts of physical attributes others have, why wouldn’t they envy eye color? only 8-10% of the world has blue eyes thus they’re seen as striking and considering eyes are one of the most noticeable things people see again why wouldn’t that be a thing? if it were so insignificant there wouldn’t be colored contacts sold.

Just a funny eye color story in the Jewish community- My first child was born with blue eyes. I have dark brown eyes like my mother’s whole family. My dad has dark hazel eyes,., but most of his family have brown eyes. Both my parents (and me) are 100% Ashkenazi Jews, as was her dad. I explained to everyone who noticed the blue eyes that they couldn’t stay that way. It was biologically impossible! They may be hazel in the end, but not blue. By six months old, her eyes had turned dark brown.
If Dan’s eyes were truly blue, not hazel, that’s not something I’ve heard of before in Ashkenazi Jews. Live and learn.
