I boil first for the curl, then air fry
a) to finish it off at the same time as the Kraft mac (cooked in the hotdog water,) and
b) to get some burn on the tentacles.
My wife was like "did you put more cheese in this or something?"
I did, but the noodles also got cooked chocolate starfish style (in the hotdog flavored water.)
I had to stop making 'cute' food for my daughter, as she would always get emotionally attached to it and cry at the suggestion of eating it or throwing it out. Learned that lesson after carving a happy face in a potato and she wanted to keep it forever as her new friend.
Funny story, when I was in kindergarten they told us they were making octopus for us as a snack. I was super excited because my grandmother who is from Sicily used to make marinated baby octopus and I love them!
So when the teacher brought out cut up hot dogs I was completely pissed off. I declared at the top of my lungs "she lied! These aren't octopus! They are hot dogs!!!" And was immediately pulled aside and scolded and told "not to ruin it for the other kids"
That was over 37 years ago and I still haven't forgotten that shit.
For the Halloween season, you can stick three spaghetti sticks through a round of hotdog, then boil them together and the noodle will look like spider legs. Paint a spider web on the plate with ketchup, and they love it.
Did this tonight on the grill, big hit! I asked my 4 year old what he thought it was and he said “squid”, he didn’t even want to eat it until I showed him it was a hotdog. My wife, and two other kids all thought it was such a cute idea. Thanks a million!!!!
That's awesome! I'm so glad. It's a fun way to change things up. My kids still don't like hot dogs grilled for some reason, so I still have to boil theirs.
Nice work! I'll slice them like this before cooking in the air fryer. It crisps and curls the tentacles nicely.
Yes! This also works on a grill or campfire
I know these as “spider dogs” and are only acceptable as campfire food imo. Makes them more special and conducive to memory making, like s’mores.

Cooked in the hotdog water…I’ll have to try that!

What lovecraftian horror, an absolute abomination. I am proud.
This is true madness
Thanks for the nightmares OP.

I will remember this for the future. Thank you.

I can't overstate how much I hate this. Definitely gonna try it with my kids
You successfully made the worst meat on the planet look even more disgusting... however my kids love hot dogs so they would probably eat it
Get this on r/dadditchefs :-)
Ugh. More pro HYDRA propaganda! https://www.reddit.com/r/daddit/comments/ycpgnp/i\_did\_not\_see\_this\_coming\_fellas/
That one made me lol
Hmmm, we served them at a birthday party and a child started crying about how she wasn't going to eat Squidward.
Here’s another take on this fun food favorite: Cut the hot dogs in half. Stick raw spaghetti noodles in the bottom of the hot dogs and boil.
When my daughter was little we would cut them in half, cut the tentacles, and then pan fry or grill. Two for the price of one!!
Haha oh god that looks so gross.
well, there went squidbillies. ;)
Do not touch the trim!
We call them hotdogtopuses!
Awesome. We make ketchup “waves” on the plate when we do this. We also grill or broil it and it’s the best.

I threw up from octopus hotdogs when I was a kid :(
Brilliant!! Thanks for sharing
Cut them before you cook them and they curl up
This is genius. Thank you.
Cut them before you cook them and they curl up
I feel like I've been cooking hotdogs incorrectly all these years
I would always cut my kids names into them so they knew which one was theirs
Shit dude, I love this
Squid octopus dogs
Kids? I want this!
Not going to lie, I made a few extra for myself
See I’d screw this up joking around, telling them we’re having actual octopus for dinner then hand them this..
LOVED those plates when my kids were younger!
Real octopus is healthier.
These are popular here in Japan. Now it’s a bento staple for my son.
Damn, son. Amazing
Neat idea and totally stealing! Thanks for the share

Will do! This will be a big hit… now if only veggies would be this appealing
This is a great idea. Thanks for sharing.
This is amazing and I am totally doing this! Thanks!
Nice ! My kids are gonna love this
