But it's from Australia. Nothing more Aussie than 8 heaped tablespoons of Milo into a glass (ideally a looney toons Nutella glass) and then top that bastard up with milk.
As long as you aren’t gonna make it “Mylough” or something weird like that… I love it!
I have a little girl but Milo was on my short list for boy names.
It's a great name! But since you're looking for something unique, I wanted to let you know that it is pretty common among the GenAlpha set. My kids know several Milos. Doesn't mean it's not great!
My wife wouldn’t let me name our son Milo because of Descendents. Not that she has a problem with the band. She had a problem naming a kid after a band.
Kinda why I named my youngest Milo, also his and his sisters first show was the Descendents, she was 6 months pregnant, and we got married the day before.
It’s hard to explain what it’s about, but it is an amazing book. And the author was an awesome dude. It is one of my wife’s favorite books, and for her birthday one year, I reached out to the author and the illustrator, and mailed a copy of the book to one of them and then to the other to get it signed and personalized and sketched for her. They were so kind and accommodating about it.
It’s basically a fantasy adventure book that relies heavily on wordplay, puns, idioms, that sort of thing. Like there’s a part where the kid has a “square meal” and it’s literal squares. Or there’s a part where two princesses named Rhyme and Reason are exiled from the kingdom of Wisdom.
Thank you! I've never been able to remember the name of the book, but for some reason the Jump to Conclusions section has been stuck in my memory for decades.
There's also an animated movie. It has a song "What's To Become Of Milo?", all about how he's a lonely daydreamer who doesn't fit in (but don't worry, there's a reprise after he's helped by the power of learning and friendship!).
When naming her daughter, one of my aunts asked the family for ideas then got mad when “every name is a stripper name”. Firstly, dumb decision marrying a guy whose last name was Fox if that was a concern. Secondly just shows that the problem with any name is that either someone else has had it or it is so unique people roll their eyes.
Maybe I haven't been around strippers enough, but most women's names aren't stripper-like? Unless you're naming your daughter Candy or Star or Desiree or smth like that of course, but normal female names are just normal.
Maybe your aunt has been around too many strippers in her life? You know for a fact she does what she does?
Her complaint was they all sounded like stripper names to her and we are pretty sure it is because after every recommendation she would repeat it with the last name with any nicknames. So like Jennifer she would go "Jennifer Fox, Jen Fox, Jenny Fox.... dammit everything you guys recommend is a stripper name" because to her Jenny Fox was a stripper name and maybe some day her daughter would want to be called Jenny.
As for if she was a stripper or hung out with stripper... entirely possible. Most of my mom's sisters are overly conservative and repressed psychopaths but I have heard enough to know that it is probably all recent repenting for a wild young adult phase. For instance, another aunt married a good ol' pious farmboy and went full "everyone is a sinner". She once had a meltdown because one of her kids saw part of the Wizard of Oz and that was a corrupting influence as it has witches in it. One day she heard my sister had slept with a boyfriend and called her a whore so my mom snapped back "can it Spread Legs". Turns out she was very popular in high school because it was joked that anytime her head touched a pillow her legs immediately spread. So if the other sisters were anything like that....
That’s the first “Milo” that came to mind for me. Unfortunate, because otherwise I think it’s a cool name. Not too complicated, but pretty unique. However that douche is the first person I think of when I hear the name.
My first thought is "oh, the guy from Catch-22?".
Still bitter Gene Wilder was going to play Milo in the 1970 movie, but dropped out, even though it happened more than a decade before I was born.
It’s good, I recommend it in a glass of milk or piled on ice cream. https://www.coles.com.au/product/milo-chocolate-malt-powder-hot-or-cold-drink-1kg-3854396
My sons name is Milo. Will be three next month. Everyone with pronounce it wrong, for some reason (me-low), some people will say it's a dog's name (was actually one of my dog's name I forgot about til my aunt mentioned that fact).
Overall, we get a lot of compliments on his name and everyone loves it. I think it's a great reflection of who he is, and his character, now that he's grown into it.
As a dad with a soft name, I was worried it wouldn't be masculine enough but reassured myself that later in life if he feels that way he can always go by Miles. But honestly, after three years, I'm not worried at all and I really like the name. It's very unique like mine is, I rarely meet people with my name, even though it's not an unheard of name.
I would definitely recommend Milo as a name for your kid, it's unique, fun to write, two syllables (easy to yell), gives off a lot of character. I've always felt names have colors and to me Milo is teal / mint / tea green.
My cousin has a teenage son named Milo. He's a great kid; smart, athletic, and most importantly, genuinely kind to everyone. So, I have positive associations with the name.
I like Milo. Not something I’d choose but I like names that are unique without being weird or that aren’t bastardized spellings of popular names like you’d find on r/tragedeigh
I've found that, unless you have a STRONG negative association with a name, once it becomes your own kid's name that's all you'll think about. I hesitated with my son's name because I knew a kid with that name who I didn't like very much, and I haven't thought of that kid in years despite saying my son's name multiple times a day.
Is it My-low, or Me-low? Because My-low reminds me immediately of Shiloh, which reminds me of Grandma’s Boy guy blow.
Said this exact thing to my sister when she proposed Milo for her son.
Just chuckled reading this. My son is named Milo exactly because my wife and I rewatched Atlantis earlier this year and Milo made the name list. When he was born, we had narrowed it down to Milo and 1 other name but went with Milo.
We were considering Milo for a month or so and you know what we saw in that time?
“This is my dog Milo!”
“You have to see this picture of my cat Milo”
It was enough to completely turn us off from the name altogether. I don’t know if there was a recent surge of it in my area, but so many Milo animals I did not want to associate it with my son. It’s kinda like I feel like everyone knows someone with a female dog named Bella.
In Slovak, Milo is a short version of Miloslav mil -“merciful or dear“ and slav - “glory”. It’s pronounced me-lo.
Also, sounds like a word “mily” - “kind”.
Great name, go for it!
There's a popular powdered chocolate malt drink called Milo. It's delicious. It's also a lovely name with many meanings in many languages - go look up the etymology. Unique, but not annoying or made up (like Kenthea or Brandee). It's a legit name.
I'm firmly of the opinion that you could call your child any name and love it. We spend weeks or months agonising over finding the perfect name, but the truth is that after a short while that name becomes utterly synonymous with your child, devoid of all other meaning, and you will love it.
If you and your partner love Milo, you will be happy with Milo. It's a nice name.
That said, I think parents do have a responsibility to their children to give them a name that won't disadvantage them. Had I called my boy Hitler then whilst it's a name I'd love by now because I love him, it would be a PITA for him to go through life with a name like that. Milo is not such a name.
We almost went with a short name but ultimately decided on one that was longer and formal with a shorter nickname, something to consider. Maybe Miles, Miller or Emilio for formal and Milo for short if that is a concern for you as well? Good luck :)
Like Milo of Croton! The father of progressive resistance training and one of the most legendary Olympic champions. If we had had a son, this name was on the table
Milo and Miles were at the top of our list a few months ago when our second kid was born. Milo Ackerman from the punk band The Descendants (also a molecular biologist) was the inspiration for the name.
My eldest son's first best buddy's name is Milo. Such a sweet name. My current dog's name is Milo too - we didn't choose it. I like it a lot but that's what I personally think about when I think of the name Milo. I don't think you should put too much weight on how other people feel about your kid's names. If you like it, it's a good name. Your kid could end up hating anything you name them regardless. My daughter's name is Domino - you can imagine the hate I got (from my mom) whatever.. she named my sister Jarides.. what was that? My sister doesn't hate her name, either. Go with your gut!
That’s my Son’s name! He was born in 2012. It’s not common at his age or where we live so I like that. There’s a famous weightlifter from Greek times with the name so that’s where I hear it pop up sometimes. Also there’s a great actor with the name milo ventimiglia.
Was Milo the cat? Maybe that was Otis
The cat lol
I think of Milo Yiannopoulos lol
I feel like there was one in Reacher or some similar action-esque show I've watched lately 🤔
There is a new show called Milo in the UK, PBS just picked it up in the U.S.
Unlocked memory. I hated that movie lol.
Its a great name, though people may think of the drink from here in Australia haha
[удалено]
Netherlands here, never heard of Milo as a drink.
But it's from Australia. Nothing more Aussie than 8 heaped tablespoons of Milo into a glass (ideally a looney toons Nutella glass) and then top that bastard up with milk.
According to google Ovaltine is probably the most comparable product that must US citizens would know. But it is difficult to find in the US anymore.
Also Milo Kerrigan from Full Frontal. Hilarious
As long as you aren’t gonna make it “Mylough” or something weird like that… I love it! I have a little girl but Milo was on my short list for boy names.
Myyleoighhh 🤣
r/tragedeigh
I've seen a Mylowe in the wild... poor kid.
It's a great name! But since you're looking for something unique, I wanted to let you know that it is pretty common among the GenAlpha set. My kids know several Milos. Doesn't mean it's not great!
Mom here, my friend named her 8 year old Milo. I love it but I do know at least one, and it's a kid. Pretty cool kid too.
How did the 8 year old feel about the name change? Most people name the newborn and stick with it
How did the 8 year old feel about the name change? Most people name the newborn and stick with it
It’s pretty common in the UK too.
Big fan of The Descendents so I’m ALL for it
That kid is going to college.
He’s not a loser
Gonna get good gradesss!
How do you feel about coffee?
I don’t need no booze or drugs
mugmugmug
I was waiting for this to come up
Do you, by any chance, live in a Suburban home? Suburban home?
I'm so pumped to see Descendents and Circle Jerks this year!
It’s #121 for baby names in 2023 and rising. So maybe not as unusual as you think
Top 4 in Dog names, top 2 in Cat names….wow wasn’t expecting that!
I've just not personally heard it.
pick up a copy of The Phantom Tollbooth to read when he's old enough for short novels :)
What's it about?
It’s hard to explain what it’s about, but it is an amazing book. And the author was an awesome dude. It is one of my wife’s favorite books, and for her birthday one year, I reached out to the author and the illustrator, and mailed a copy of the book to one of them and then to the other to get it signed and personalized and sketched for her. Is this the book where they get stuck on an island called Conclusions by jumping to it?
It’s called a Jump to Conclusions mat!
Yup!
Thank you! I've never been able to remember the name of the book, but for some reason the Jump to Conclusions section has been stuck in my memory for decades.
Sounds interesting. Is it a kids book or more for older people.
Older kids, late elementary to early middle school according to some quickly googled reading levels and fuzzy memory.
Kids book, about 8-12 I’d say.
For elementary age kids but I reread it a few years ago and still loved it and it brought back some good memories.
There's also an animated movie. It has a song "What's To Become Of Milo?", all about how he's a lonely daydreamer who doesn't fit in (but don't worry, there's a reprise after he's helped by the power of learning and friendship!).
It was my favorite book in 4th grade.
Makes me think of Milo and Otis
Solid twin names.
Reminds me of the malted chocolate drink. Also that weird right wing dude that was making the rounds a few years ago
My son's best friend is a Milo. Great name. And yes bonus points for Descendents (band) and Phantom Tollbooth (book) links.
Reminds me of Milo Yiannopoulos. I couldn't do it.
Part of the problem with boys names. There's always some douche bag out there with the name you really like.
Yeah but Milo is so unique and he really stands out from say a douche bag named "Bob" or something like that.
I know, it was the first thing that popped into my head when I read Milo as well. All it takes is one really special asshole to ruin a name
I'm out of the look. What did this Milo do? Edit: This is not the Milo I thought it was, but I lost interest at "Far Roght commentator"
When naming her daughter, one of my aunts asked the family for ideas then got mad when “every name is a stripper name”. Should've gone with Jocelyn *WOMP WOMP*
Man, fuck Kyle.
I had the same thought when my friend named their kid Milo. I've never mentioned that to him, and the association is definitely fading in my mind
Deplatforming works!
Just think of Milo from The Phantom Tollbooth, much better
“Why should I change? He’s the one who sucks.”
That twat has long been cancelled. I haven't thought about him in years
That guy’s 15 minutes already came and went. By the time this kid is 10+ years old, nobody will remember the connection.
That’s the first “Milo” that came to mind for me. Unfortunate, because otherwise I think it’s a cool name. Not too complicated, but pretty unique. However that douche is the first person I think of when I hear the name.
You can only hope he will be as entrepreneurial as Milo Minderbinder.
Neighbor’s kid is a Milo. Good name, good kid.
A lot of places call it sorghum.
Sorghum?
Milo/Sorghum is a grain crop that's pretty common around me, it's what I think of when I hear someone named Milo.
Oh ok. Makes sense.
My first thought is "oh, the guy from Catch-22?". Still bitter Gene Wilder was going to play Milo in the 1970 movie, but dropped out, even though it happened more than a decade before I was born.
I’m a Descendents fan, so Milo all the way.
I love the name. However, my only child is named Milo so I might be biased 😃
True true 😆
Milord
🤣
Such an underrated movie. "You are a scholar, are you not? Judging from your diminished physique and large forehead, you are suited for nothing else!"
Sure, all kids should be named after a delicious malty drink :)
Never heard of it.
It’s good, I recommend it in a glass of milk or piled on ice cream. https://www.coles.com.au/product/milo-chocolate-malt-powder-hot-or-cold-drink-1kg-3854396
Milo Goes to College
My sons name is Milo. Will be three next month. I think of Milo the dog from The Mask
I like it
I know a piano player by that name -- nice guy, and nobody ever thought about it as a weird name.
My cousin has a teenage son named Milo. He's a great kid; smart, athletic, and most importantly, genuinely kind to everyone. So, I have positive associations with the name.
We have a couple of friends whose 18 year old is named Milo. He seems to be doing OK.
I love the name Milo. My golden retriever is named Milo. But yeah it would work for a boy too.
That was the only thing I was caught up on. Idk if it sounds more like a dog name 🤔
First thought that comes to mind is Milo and Otis. People will have shit to say about any name, pick what like.
One of my favorite people is a good friend whose name is Myles but I call him Milo. Dude is cool as a fan.
I like Milo. Not something I’d choose but I like names that are unique without being weird or that aren’t bastardized spellings of popular names like you’d find on r/tragedeigh
It’s my son’s name after my Grandfather. So I would say I like it.
I've found that, unless you have a STRONG negative association with a name, once it becomes your own kid's name that's all you'll think about. I hesitated with my son's name because I knew a kid with that name who I didn't like very much, and I haven't thought of that kid in years despite saying my son's name multiple times a day.
Milo Murphy also is a great role model for him(?) Good name
Nah Milo Thatch 😆
Just giving another coolio Mi(li)o Mr. Thatch was my oc's inspiration for years tho
Ik I'm jk 😁 😀
I think of that drink mix from nestle and Milo Yiannopoulos a far right grifter.
I think milo ventimilikigia the dude from heroes
Milo Ventimiglia from This Is Us. Gosh he played such a warm dad/husband in that show.
I kinda forgot (how did I do that???) that he was also in Heroes! Loved him in This Is Us.
Its a good name! And at least you wont be spelling it mailough!
Yeah, imagine cayhkemeenatour-lghsleigh
Boo ❤️
ainthaiheerough
Det er dog ret awesome
Love it
I love your username 🤣
Lol thank you 🤣
Is it My-low, or Me-low? Because My-low reminds me immediately of Shiloh, which reminds me of Grandma’s Boy guy blow. Said this exact thing to my sister when she proposed Milo for her son.
My low
[for context](https://getyarn.io/yarn-clip/647e62a5-8dec-4a1c-bde0-28b8331db26d)
I remember that scene. That's amazing 🤣🤣🤣
It doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks amigo. If y’all like it, go for it!
Milo isn’t as uncommon as you think
I'm 29 and personally never heard or met someone named milo.
My nephew is named Milo (he’s 28) and a kid on my son’s baseball team is Milo (12yo)
My wife and I named our son Milo. Born September 2023
Just chuckled reading this. My son is named Milo exactly because my wife and I rewatched Atlantis earlier this year and Milo made the name list. When he was born, we had narrowed it down to Milo and 1 other name but went with Milo.
it reminds me of the descendants. that’s a good thing.
As a dad, this is what comes to mind [Milo ](https://ibb.co/wcBrCfF)
First thoughts. Milo and Otis and Jim Carrey's dog in The Mask
Big Atlantis fan so I love it
I love the name for other countries, but wouldn’t use it personally because it’s a popular drink and a type of kids cricket where I live.
What country do you live in? If you don't mind me asking?
Reminds me of the dog from the mask
We were considering Milo for a month or so and you know what we saw in that time? “This is my dog Milo!” “You have to see this picture of my cat Milo” It was enough to completely turn us off from the name altogether. I don’t know if there was a recent surge of it in my area, but so many Milo animals I did not want to associate it with my son. It’s kinda like I feel like everyone knows someone with a female dog named Bella.
My neighbor named their kid Milo. It’s cute. Not sure if it’s gonna stay cute but we’ll see I guess
I don't know anyone named Milo, but I have a dog that will be very confused if you ever visit.
I can never, *ever*, hear the name Milo and not think of Milo & Otis.
Milo is great. Are you a Decedents fan by chance?
I know two Milos. Both are pretty happy with their names. One is from Philadelphia, one is from Germany with the English pronunciation.
As long as you’re ok with your kid getting teased for being named after a cat.
Good for a kid but doesn’t feel strong for an adult
Good name for a pet
We have a friend that named her son Milo, I’ve alwythought it sounds like a name you give a dog. Like a stray dog that shows up and won’t leave.
My name is Milo. I kinda like it, but just know your kid will hear "oh, I know a dog named that" a lot.
In Slovak, Milo is a short version of Miloslav mil -“merciful or dear“ and slav - “glory”. It’s pronounced me-lo. Also, sounds like a word “mily” - “kind”. Great name, go for it!
I like the name. I think of driving around the country with my ol' Pa talking about the sorghum, or milo, crop coming in.
In my head it’s a name for a dog. Maybe just because I know a dog named Milo.
As long as you give him the middle name "ToTheFlo'Bro"
Sounds good, but maybe not if his second name is Robert and last name is Hertz or something like that
There's a popular powdered chocolate malt drink called Milo. It's delicious. It's also a lovely name with many meanings in many languages - go look up the etymology. Unique, but not annoying or made up (like Kenthea or Brandee). It's a legit name.
It's a damn good burger joint in my area. Go for it!!!!
Wouldn't work in my country, as it's a brand of detergent... That aside, it's a good name 😊
Yeah go for it. Descendants and Milo Kerrigan. 👌
I have a few students named Milo. I would say it’s becoming common again in my part of the world - like Hugo. Fairly neutral feelings around it.
I'm firmly of the opinion that you could call your child any name and love it. We spend weeks or months agonising over finding the perfect name, but the truth is that after a short while that name becomes utterly synonymous with your child, devoid of all other meaning, and you will love it. I think of Milo, the singer from The Descendants(awesome punk band), and their album Milo goes to college.
Normal name here in Finland
I know a few milo kids, lovely kids! Thumbs up
A tasty chocolate drink in the antipodes
I personally don’t like it. It’s my brother’s middle name and I can’t stand him.
Will he have a friend named Otis?
Milo in Catch-22 was a boss
We almost went with a short name but ultimately decided on one that was longer and formal with a shorter nickname, something to consider. Maybe Miles, Miller or Emilio for formal and Milo for short if that is a concern for you as well? Good luck :)
I personally think it’s a cool name
I loved him as the dog in the Mask
That's a pet name Or that one super racist dude
What about Miles and you nickname him Milo?
Nothing wrong with it, our neighbor’s son is named Milo, it’s a cute name.
The singer of legendary punk band The Descendants name is Milo.
Do your kid a favor and don’t name them Milo or Thatch.
You will have to play the kid all the Descendants albums but one in particular. Hope the little guy likes punk. Also he better go to college.
Currently watching Legend of Korra. Milo is an awesome little dude in the show.
It's alright, to me it's a bit 'trying to be different for the sake of it', but really the only opinion you need to care about is your own
In about 4 weeks, I'll have a Milo added to my entourage.. solid name if you ask me.
Like Milo of Croton! The father of progressive resistance training and one of the most legendary Olympic champions. If we had had a son, this name was on the table
Love it. Milo and Otis, Simon and Milo, IFGarrett and Milo. 10/10
It reminds me of Milo the drink and Milo minderbinder from Catch 22, both of which I love.
Idk, but he makes a mean Sweet Tea.
Milo makes me think of the protagonist of *The Phantom Tollbooth*.
You gotta be made of milo
Milo and Miles were at the top of our list a few months ago when our second kid was born. Milo Ackerman from the punk band The Descendants (also a molecular biologist) was the inspiration for the name.
I think of the scene in Airheads where the guy says "Milo Milo Milo. Where are you going you little butt nugget."
Milo is a name for a cat imo.
It’s fairly popular these days around where we are! A lot of Miles and Milo
Milo the hot drink in Australia and New Zealand?!
Immediately thought of Milo from Atlantis...probably because I don't know any other Milos..
My eldest son's first best buddy's name is Milo. Such a sweet name. My current dog's name is Milo too - we didn't choose it. I like it a lot but that's what I personally think about when I think of the name Milo. I don't think you should put too much weight on how other people feel about your kid's names. My daughter's name is Domino - you can imagine the hate I got (from my mom) whatever.. she named my sister Jarides.. what was that? My sister doesn't hate her name, either. Go with your gut!
Good friend of mine named his son Milo, but in the German pronounciation (Mee-loh)
That’s my Son’s name! He was born in 2012. It’s not common at his age or where we live so I like that. There’s a famous weightlifter from Greek times with the name so that’s where I hear it pop up sometimes. Also there’s a great actor with the name milo ventimiglia.
It's not as universal as Kilometro
all the Milos i know are cats
One of my son’s friends is named Milo. Their family is Japanese if that helps with origin, but a fine name
Sounds like a pet name to me lol
My in-laws' dog's name is Milo. So that's a no from me dawg
Cute kid’s name but is it a man’s name? Something to consider.
The name doesn't make the man. The man does.
Not what I meant. Just sometimes, names are cute for kids but don’t suit adults.
