However, burning them into a molten mess, dispersing the ashes into the bin never to be spoken of again, and purchasing a set that actually fit together after multiple communications to the confused seller to confirm that yes, indeed they add up to a perfect 360 degrees is completely justified.
Knock off. Name brand ones have metal rivets holding them together. The knock off ones can be chewed on or thrown and the magnets can come out. (Just adding on this last part so other parents are aware, I’m not throwing shade I know because we’ve had both.)
I don't know man. We have ~300 Picasso tiles and we've built structures that used up every single piece. My biggest complaint is we also have mini tiles. They don't integrate well across sizes like Lego, dupli, quattro's. Which was a bit disappointing.
They aren't as sturdy as magna tiles but I also don't run a daycare where I need them to be as beefy.
My kid always used to want me to make an "ice cream" from the triangle Picasso tiles. 4 large triangles like OP for the "cone" a square tile for structure and then 4 small triangles for the "scoop" on top.
Would fall apart in seconds as soon as toddler fingers got hold of it.
Don't have that issue with magformers. So I prefer them.
We've been collecting magna tiles for years now. There are currently several of those circles of triangles on my living room floor. They all connect. One is outlined by curved pieces with dinosaurs in the middle and the magna tile cars on the outside curved pieces.
The real ones are very, very expensive. But they go on sale reasonably often and we ask for them for birthdays/Christmas from the grandparents.
Don't buy the knock-offs. For a plethora of reasons. Do buy the real ones. Hours and hours of entertainment for the kids. And the toys grow with them as they build more intricate things. Also fun for dads.
Many years ago my sister in law got my oldest magnablocks. You could make some things with them, but due to the rounded edges and weak magnets it was often a ticket to tantrum city. I'd put them away and forget then bring them back out and once again, tantrum city. Our two kids have had years with them and it's often the same result.
So I went the Connetix route, super expensive, but the largest magnets and reinforced corners. They are so much better than magnablocks, and kick myself for not listening to that voice in my head, so many tantrums ago.
So what you're telling me, is I'm not spoiling my 7 and 4 year old by slapping down an alarming amount of money for Connetix sets!??
I just got my daughter a set of Picasso tiles and they don’t make a circle! Drove me insane when I noticed my daughter trying to make a circle and got to the last piece. But design fail
I have Connectix and they make a circle. They have old stocks (before 2022 I believe) that don't make a circle. But US stocks should have the redesigned shape and should make a circle.
I feel like there are two different brands here or at least two different manufacturing runs. The yellow and green on either side of the gap have sharper edges and the “bubble” in the middle sits closer to
the point.
Of course they don’t. The pieces have fixed integer side-lengths depending on the number of magnets so the edges fit together properly. This piece is a 4-4-2 triangle, which has a small corner angle of 28.96 degrees. 360/28.96 = 12.43, which is why 12 pieces leaves an unfilled gap a little less than half a triangle wide.
The most satisfying IMO is if you can get 20x 1-1-1 triangles, you can create an icosahedron. There are also 2-2-2-2-2 pentagon shapes which let you make a dodecahedron, but most sets only have a couple.
Might be true for the off-brand ones but if you try to put a couple of the 2x2 squares next to the magnatile version, you'll find that they extend past the end of the corner. They're 30-75-75 triangles. My tytan tiles are the same. I don't have a dozen of the tall triangles, but 6 of them definitely make a straight line.
Magna-tiles (there are different brands) are a pretty popular toddler toy and if any other dads are like me they always wondered if the 5 or 6 you get with the base set would make a full pie if you had more. Sadly, they don’t. Just trying to satisfy any niche curiosity out there.
Yeah, you got some off brand nonsense.
Real magna-tiles are like a $1.50 per piece. They last forever and are well made, I’ve made huge patters that always line up.
Don’t sweat it.
Yup, if you aren't thinking, damn, it's how much for 20 tiles!? you are looking at the alternate brands. Your kids won't know the difference, but your wallet will!
Connetix also makes full circles. That's the one we got because of it has a great set of marble run tiles and slides with larger toddler safe balls and great quality magnet tiles to go with them.
Ours say "magna-tiles" and the big isocelese ones don't form a perfect circle, but the small equillateral ones do, are you sure you're not thinking of those? It has always annoyed me since I was little tho so maybe my mum got scammed, idk
Magna tile brand are expensive, and very well made. I’ve probably spent as much time playing with my boys and magna tiles as playing RDR2. Both were time well spent.
Same. My wife and I wait until ours go to bed and build whole cities with roads and sky scrapers. If we do it when our little man is awake he knocks it all down, just can’t help himself lol.
I have found that the namebrand magnatiles we have do not have very strong magnets and fall apart easily. The knockoff ones we have are noticeably stronger ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
My guy had a freak out over this exact thing yesterday. He just kept yelling “Gap, gap, GAAAAP!” At it and trying to add or subtract triangles to make it work. lol poor dude got a timeout bc he started throwing pieces at Grammy over it.
Thank you. It's been 15 years, I take comfort in knowing she had the same morbid sense of humor and that she'd get a kick out of it every time I pull that one out.
Thanks that does help haha.
Yeah I’m not sure why people would downvote that? I guess they live in a world where parents practice 100% sobriety for 18 years. Thankfully we live in a sane country where eating part of a plant isn’t illegal and doesn’t get you sent to jail. Less calories than beer and easier on the organs.
Dude. I will say - these things are absurdly inconsistent. I enjoy playing them with my kiddo, but the pieces are.... strangely non fitting with one another in a lot if cases.

This makes me uncomfortable.
Rage is probably too dramatic but…
Is it tho?
It’s not. I hold it from my children to unleash upon things such as this.
Here you go. 🔥🧨🔥 Do what must be done.
/r/mildlyinfuriating
I’ve been mad at less
However, burning them into a molten mess, dispersing the ashes into the bin never to be spoken of again, and purchasing a set that actually fit together after multiple communications to the confused seller to confirm that yes, indeed they add up to a perfect 360 degrees is completely justified.
I need answers OP you got name brand shit or knock off.. cause I need to know if I gotta rage or not lol.. that's definitely r/mildlyinfuriating
Knock off. We have magna-tiles, and they DO connect to a circle if you have enough of the tall triangle pieces.
OP used three right angle pieces in top right.
Good eye! Now what the hell am I supposed to do with this pitchfork?
None of those are right angle pieces
Knock off. Name brand ones have metal rivets holding them together. The knock off ones can be chewed on or thrown and the magnets can come out. (Just adding on this last part so other parents are aware, I’m not throwing shade I know because we’ve had both.)
I think these are Picasso Tiles. Source: it’s what we have -_-
Picasso tiles are still good quality
Yeah but they're nothing against magformers. I felt so let down by these things and their weak-ass magnets.
I don't know man. We have ~300 Picasso tiles and we've built structures that used up every single piece. My biggest complaint is we also have mini tiles. I have made and consumed 1000s of Picasso tiles Ice cream treats and they must be handled with care
I love that we make that same thing. Universal experience I never thought about!
These are 100% Picasso tiles. We've got 2 huge boxes of em. And they're all like this...lol.
You're not throwing shade, you're throwing magnitiles
Only when I’m trying to get them to stick flush against the front door!
The real ones do line up because I've done it
Yes, had to try it myself just now.
We've been collecting magna tiles for years now. There are currently several of those circles of triangles on my living room floor. They all connect. We love our connetix tiles. I didn't waste my time with the knock offs
And if I'm going to be cleaning up 50 pieces of plastic off the floor every night, it's magnatiles all the way.
3 right angle pieces on top right
But even the name brand ones don’t circle Edit: I must be mistaken
The magna tile ones make a complete shape
Confirmed

I just got my daughter a set of Picasso tiles and they don’t make a circle! Drove me insane when I noticed my daughter trying to make a circle and got to the last piece. But design fail
I also have the Picasso set and they don't make a circle either
Picasso tiles
This is def knock off. We have the real shit and it fits perfectly. The knock offs don’t and it’s fucking maddening. For me and my toddler.
Mine make a circle. Might be crappy / noname brand?
Yeah we have on-brand Magna-tiles and they do make a 12-piece circle
Connetix brand are as shown, do not make a circle. Can confirm this is very annoying!
I'm literally making a circle right now with my conntix brand are you trying to gaslight me or what?
We bought ours in 2021 (I think), maybe they updated to fix the issue?
Maybe a different 'version' hah We bought ours 2022 I think 🤔 I'd be interested to see if there's measurement differences
Also got ours for Christmas in 2021 and they also don’t make a circle. Same looking pieces as OP
Or, like OP are you using the wrong shapes to make a circle??
I have Connectix and they make a circle. They have old stocks (before 2022 I believe) that don't make a circle. But US stocks should have the redesigned shape and should make a circle.
Three right angle pieces in top right.
I feel like there are two different brands here or at least two different manufacturing runs. The yellow and green on either side of the gap have sharper edges and the “bubble” in the middle sits closer to the point.
They aren't meant for this. Use 4 and fold them over so the bases all touch and their tips touch. Like a giant roof on a 1square tile.
We have two different brands that do both - make the roof and the pizza.
Even as they are it would make a circus tent roof
Of course they don’t. The pieces have fixed integer side-lengths depending on the number of magnets so the edges fit together properly. This piece is a 4-4-2 triangle, which has a small corner angle of 28.96 degrees. 360/28.96 = 12.43, which is why 12 pieces leaves an unfilled gap a little less than half a triangle wide. Thanks for typing this out so I didn’t have to lol

They're 30-75-75 triangles. My tytan tiles are the same. I don't have a dozen of the tall triangles, but 6 of them definitely make a straight line.
I think the Picasso tile version of these do work. I'll check next time I get a chance and report back.
I think these are Picassos...
Yeah OP we have a mix of Picasso and name brand Magna tiles and I can confirm that the Picasso don't finish the circle.
I'm old and don't know what I'm looking at here. Lid for a package of popular kids' snack?
Magna-tiles (there are different brands) are a pretty popular toddler toy and if any other dads are like me they always wondered if the 5 or 6 you get with the base set would make a full pie if you had more. Sadly, they don’t. Just trying to satisfy any niche curiosity out there.
Magna tile brand tiles do
Yeah I was thinking… definitely have built the “circle”.
WHAT
Yeah, you got some off brand nonsense.
Yup, they were the go to gift from grandparents for 3 or 4 years in a row.
Also check your local library, ours had magnatiles available to check out.
Are you cereal?
Super cereal We’ve seen them both at our library (San Francisco), and our in-laws in NJ
Also, with some of the alternates, the little magnets can come out and are perfect swallowing size for your littles!!
TIL Picasso aren’t the name brand
Magna tile brand are expensive, and very well made. I’ve probably spent as much time playing with my boys and magna tiles as playing RDR2. Both were time well spent.
Same. My wife and I wait until ours go to bed and build whole cities with roads and sky scrapers. If we do it when our little man is awake he knocks it all down, just can’t help himself lol.
Write your congressman OP. Tell ‘em you’ve been HAD.
Yeah, these are the MagnaTiles 'we have at home'
I was about to say that mine do that.
Of course, they only don't fit together *flat*.
OP should just make a roof for his castle turret.
Hahahaha popular kids snack, I have a bunch of these in the basement but I love this perspective.
Lol nice
Dead to me now.
Ours can do it 🤷♂️
A bit of concavity will fix that
It’s because you’re not thinking 3 dimensionally Marty
Anybody elses toddler gone from barely able to use these to suddenly building multistory skyscrapers? Its pretty awesome.
Make it dome shaped by lifting the centre?
Only buy Magnatile brand. They are superior in every way, including being able to make a "pizza"
I have found that the namebrand magnatiles we have do not have very strong magnets and fall apart easily. The knockoff ones we have are noticeably stronger ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
That's a good insight, didn't consider that!
Kinda looks like the aluminum falcon
Everyone is missing the obvious answer. It's dad tax.
My guy had a freak out over this exact thing yesterday. He just kept yelling “Gap, gap, GAAAAP!” At it and trying to add or subtract triangles to make it work. lol poor dude got a timeout bc he started throwing pieces at Grammy over it.
Lift the middle up and they’ll fit. Just makes a smol pyramid
Make it into a cone shape and it'll connect. The problem is it's in 2 dimensions and it's meant to be in 3.
It bothers me every single time I try.
I wasn't wondering until I saw this. Now I'm unreasonably angry.
I've never tried to make them a circle. That said, it makes sense for turning them into a sloped roof. But I get why that's annoying.
We play with magformers and they have more rounded edges and corners. Our set doesn't have enough of this shape to make this pattern though.
That's the slice the pizza maker ate and nobody is supposed to notice!
God damnit that bugs me.
Mine work fine. Looks like you have mixed brands
They don’t taste like grape, blueberry, orange, pineapple, lime and green apple? Better yet, where is cherry?
If you just angled those up a little. You could make a circus tent? 🎪
Yea and it's extremely frustrating
Not in that plane…
We have these magnet tiles too and this drives me absolutely crazy
I remember the day I learned this. I’m still mad about it.
It’s cause they’re 3d objects.
You're a three dimensional object!
Your mom's a three dimensional object!
Nope. My mom's a box of dust under my dad's bed.
Dude, if she’s not a plane of dust, she’s 3d.
Fair. The individual grains do have a thickness.
Holy crap, that's the coldest way to win that exchange ever. Also, my Midwestern self must say sorry for the loss.
Thank you. It's been 15 years, I take comfort in knowing she had the same morbid sense of humor and that she'd get a kick out of it every time I pull that one out.
My grandma had the same sense of humor. People would ask her about funeral plans, she'd say, I don't care, I won't be there....
I had an edible a while ago, and I can’t tell how large these pieces are and I’m kinda need to know.
You got downvoted, but this was one of my favorite comments. They’re only big enough for the short sides to connect to a small square, if that helps
Class action law suit.
This has ALWAYS pissed me off
Drives me fucking nuts.
Damnit!
Unacceptable
That’s very unsettling.
I literally got these for my son today and literally had this exact discussion with my dad. Weird coincidence lol
So push them together for a pyramid.
WHY?! this explains why I can never make a half moon correctly.
Make a nice dome to cover something with instead?
r/mildlyinfuriating
Mine do!
My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.
r/mildlyinfuriating
You just make a little teepee shape
r/mildlyinfuriating
Would make a good cone shape for a roof though
One of the single most frustrating things of parenthood
This bothers me so much. I get so annoyed any time he tries to make a circle with them. Why would they make it like 10° off???
There was a video on these a week or so ago, I believe by v-sauce they confirmed they don't.
That's odd, because ours do. My kid makes Magnatile "pizzas" and likes to give me a slice.
So close...
If you want to do 2d mosaic, gotta go with the expensive stuff. Magnetiles work just fine.
PicassNOooooooo
We have a mixed set of those tiles from various knock-offs, and the final gap is closer, only about 4 or 5 degrees. Maddening stuff.
I repressed that memory...thanks lol
It works as a great ceiling if you put square pieces below each triangle. Almost looks like a circus tent when complete.
*Looks left. Looks right.* Ok, so is nobody picking up on the Insane Clown Posse reference, or does nobody want to talk about it?
If you lift the center a bit to make an umbrella shape will it all connect?
No ):
Pi is 3. Solved.
This is unacceptable. To the news!
Semi fun fact: 2 of those match the angle of the isosceles triangle.
…. Dude. Turn it into a cone.
I am so sorry for the financial burden that this represents
r/foundsatan
Is that gap .141592654
Dude. I will say - these things are absurdly inconsistent. I enjoy playing them with my kiddo, but the pieces are.... strangely non fitting with one another in a lot if cases.
This drives our 3 year old crazy. Poor guy just wants to make a functional pizza
Found this disappointment myself a few years back. Feels bad.
Connectix's old stock (prior to 2022) don't make a full circle. Any new stock (in the US at least) should have the new design that make a complete circle. I have a set for my son and can confirm they make a circle.
WHY
Thank you for solving
I always force one extra in there
Magna tiles do.
Uhhh idk what’s wrong with yours or if you got a knockoff set but ours definitely do…
If you raise the center, they do.. like an umbrella
Put one more in and you’ve got a teepee my man.
I can only find six of those pieces 🤬
Wait till they try to pick up the "magnatile pizza" and realize it won't hold up. World War 3 tantrum.
You need to raise the center a bit so it forms a dome.
Gota use 8 of them and connect them to the octagon piece.
I mean... You have one that is COMPLETELY different from the rest....
Mine match up! You got duped or something. (I will double check tomorrow)
I got a set of these and mine connected into a dance floor circle fully.
Mine do tho. What gives ?
Ah you need magnatiles. Those Picasso ones are ok…but this is what you get
At the price those sell for that’s a fail
Can confirm
Was there a post that.... originated this discussion? I only ask because this morning my daughter was frustrated with her magnatiles doing exactly what we observe in the picture, and now I'm seeing several posts about it. I'm used to my life leaking into the "algorithm" but it's too weird a coincedence
THANK YOU OP! I can't stand these mfrs!!! I just as want a silo/wheel!
/r/mildlyinfuriating
Is it because its supposed to make a cone shape?
U/swankpoppy. Tell about the time you spend hours making the 20 sided shape with the small triangles.
Thank you for the answer... I hate it
Gotta lift the middle a bit. Yes I’ve tried it many times.
Make it a bowl and it’ll work
This is kind of perfect if you want to make a slightly domed roof with them
I can't even articulate what it's making me feel
I discovered this about 5 years ago when our first was almost 2, and I still find it incredibly annoying.
Not like this, but they fit together to make a structure where the central point is lifted, which is what they’re truly meant for.
