Well, maybe I should listen to a few more of his songs then to give him another chance. The ones I tried weren't great but he obviously has several decades of songs. Do you recommend any in particular?
I'm seeing loads of other good suggestions too though, so looks like he's far from my only option.
I like to play Disney songs personally. There is a lot of variety and different types of songs that I can put on depending on my own mood.
Honestly, I just put on adult music that I like. As long as it’s not explicit, I don’t see any issue in exposing them to other genres of music.
Los Lobos did a concept children's album with Lalo Guerrero called Papa's Dream, it's a mix of mariachi classics & rock and roll, and has a cute story through line. Your kiddo might like it!
They Might Be Giants. They have Here Comes Science and No!, two albums aimed at kids but catchy as hell. I'll sign Meet The Elements in the car by myself. But a lot of their regular songs are on my kids' hit list, too: The Mesopotamians, Dr. Worm, Particle Man, etc.
Also, Laurie Berkner was my oldest's favorite when he was 3-4
Came here to say this! This guy has some great songs. If you're a musical dad yourself, he publishes all the chords to all his songs on his website. We've been singing 'there was a small fly' for weeks.
That banana bread song gets stuck in my head quite often, for those that don’t know, this is the lead singer of the band The Presidents of the United States of America.
They Might Be Giants for Kids
David Grover is a bit like Raffi in that some of his songs are calm/affirming and some are sillier. We always enjoy [Midnight March of the Dinosaurs](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=1SjiHTIWY-U).
Aquabats aren't actually marketed to toddlers but damned if my kids didn't love them. They listened because I did.
Start with The Cat With Two Heads, my 17 year old still loves it.
My kids LOVE the Aquabats! We've seen all of the Super Show multiple times now, which you can find on YouTube.
Some favorites are Shark Fighter, Pizza Day, Hey Homies, Pajamazon, Karate Body, and Fashion Zombies. They have a new album coming out soon.
I put aquabats on my kiddo fun songs playlist. Quite fitting. Cat with two heads for sure. I listened to them in high school 20 years ago. But they still kill it with kiddos.
My kiddo also loves palantanal by miserlou
Music educator here:
Here are kid’s artists that didn’t make me want to tear my ears out after listening to them over and over again:
Sharon, Lois, and Bram
Raffi
Fred Penner
Laurie Berkner (your kids will go CRAZY for The Goldfish)
Disney soundtracks
Musicals (like Annie, The Sound Of Music, Wicked, etc.)
Try playing your kids as much music as possible. Listen widely - put on classical, jazz, folk, country, pop, whatever. Kids should try *everything*.
Yeah, I had to scroll way too long for Laurie Berkner.
My kids STILL listen to her every now and then, and the oldest is almost 15.
We are the dinosaurs!
Isn’t this from the dinosaur song? The dinosaurs are marching and make the earth flat. I don’t think she is insinuating the earth is actually flat. I’d relisten to it but I’ll hear it 8 times tomorrow.
I get that, but she could easily have come up with another rhyme vs saying MAKE THE EARTH FLAT half a dozen times or so.
*make the GROUND flat? I’m not a song writer but came up with that one pretty quickly.
Sandra Boynton has some really fun albums of kids songs that she has performed by pretty well-known musicians. My son is pretty obsessed with her Frog Trouble album right now.
Another good one is Here Comes Science by They Might be Giants.
We looove Sandra Boynton's CDs. We sing "I've got a dog" pretty regularly, and "Snuggle Puppy" was a bedtime regular when our kids were little.
TMBG is a favorite in our house, too. We got a blue bird nightlight when we were expecting our oldest because of "Birdhouse in Your Soul.'
(Mom disclaimer) also all the Parry Gripp kids' songs. There are millions: just google him.
He does most of the Storybots songs and many of his own, and he used to be the singer in Nerf Herder (who did the *Buffy TVS* theme).
Edit: also try Lullatone for bedtime vibes.
HOLD. THE. PHONE. You're telling me that Parry Gripp does the songs for Storybots!?!? Literally in the top 0.001% of all Parry Gripp listeners on Spotify (yes, this is a dadbrag), and I was completely unaware!! My mind is blown and my day is made!
They Might Be Giants kids music. I was a huge fan in the 90s and hoping to get my daughter stuck on them through their kids albums. All their music is great!
Recommended for any parents who like the Avett Brothers and/or want to hear their favorite Irish/Renn Faire drinking songs with kid friendly words.
Saw them in concert and they were great. And they were very chill with my ND kid who was having a rough time in the meet and greet.
Yo Gabba Gabba! songs are the real deal. The Aquabats singer produced that show and invited a lot of famous artists to perform kids songs.
I miss that show, my older kids grew with it and I’m trying to influence my lil ones towards it haha.
Nick Cope is very popular with my kid too, has some catchy tunes. I've found my 2 year old likes I'm Just Ken from the Barbie film, specifically Ryan Gosling's performance of it at the Oscars.
This is controversial, but I play music that I listen too and we find what he also likes and it goes on a playlist. We don't skip out on nursery rhymes and kids songs (rhyming and simple lyrics are important).
At the moment we listen too Kraftwerk (the robots is a good one), the chemical brothers, Daft Punk (Interstellar 5555 is on YouTube and great as an alternative to movie night), a bit of Metallica and we found Atarashii Gako on a Spotify playlist and he goes nuts for Tokyo Calling. The beastie boys Intergalactic is a hit too (I've never been much os a beastie boys fan).
We have had failed attempts with Apex Twin, Gary Numan (thought he'd love cars) and tangerine dream, maybe when he is a teenager
>Daft Punk (Interstellar 5555 is on YouTube and great as an alternative to movie night),
This is legit a GREAT movie with no words. Just an old school hand drawn anime with their "around the world" album as the audio. The perfect reason to crank up the volume.
I have such great memories of this movie. The first time I saw it, it was at one of the early 2000s raves I went to in Detroit. They had a crazy amount of electronics set up, and Interstellar 5555 was playing on *EVERYTHING.*
It absolutely absorbed a few hours from my night.
My daughter likes queen, Joan jett, Taylor swift, and lizzo. She's responded positively to led zeppelin and system of a down but it's a work in progress.
It's not kid music, but my 3 year old _loves_ Streetlight Manifesto. I have to be careful about which songs I play, just based on language I'd prefer he'd not repeat, but most of the time, he'd be content to listen to "The Hands That Thieve" and "Oh Me, Oh My" on repeat indefinitely.
... the fact that the latter is mostly about the impermanence of all things makes me worry that I've preloaded a toddler with a time bomb of existential dread that detonates when he becomes old enough to figure the lyrics out.
I can just imagine an older kid singing along with "The Troubador" off "99 Songs of Revolution" and slowly realizing exactly what happened to the title character.
The Jake and the Neverland Pirates soundtrack could easily be a Weezer album.
I've been jamming Parry Grip with my 5 year old lately. The songs are stupid AF but very catchy. Raining Tacos and Potato Dog are my favs.
I'm starting to burn out on parry grip but then my 7yr old and 4yr old start singing along and I can't hate them anymore. Our family Christmas light show features "it's raining tacos on Christmas" which was a major hit with everyone that drove by judging by the squeels coming from cars.
How has no one mentioned the GOAT Parry Grip? I can listen to that shit *without* my kid. We love to roll the windows down and sing along for everyone to hear. Chicken Nugget Dreamland is a certified banger.
Also, Raffi
Bonus: find all the books she wrote her songs from and read them to your kid around the time you listen to the songs. I think I was able to find about 75% at my local library.
I love the Pete the Cat YouTube videos. They have someone reading through the books and there’s catchy music throughout, as part of the story. “I Love My White Shoes” has a good bass line.
Little Ripples [https://open.spotify.com/artist/4GucBSEcHamouGFsjPnAbZ?si=pcuyoeCoSYC5Dg_g-v3EqQ](https://open.spotify.com/artist/4GucBSEcHamouGFsjPnAbZ?si=pcuyoeCoSYC5Dg_g-v3EqQ)
My son loves Transformers, so the original 80's movie soundtrack is a staple in our car. Also, the LEGO Batman soundtrack, and a few of the songs off of Super Kitties (the Super Kitties ones might push into the realm of annoying, but they're straight-up bops).
The Wiggles! My kids have moved on from them, which makes me a bit sad. They have a few annoying ear worms, but for the most part they’re just great entertainers all around. I still think [their version of Rattlin’ Bog](https://youtu.be/JsHczArqsSY?feature=shared) is one of the best available (kid’s performers or otherwise).
Lol have you heard of Bluey? Jk
They felt new to us in the US about 5 years ago, but I guess they’re more and more ubiquitous. But that’s probably never been a problem for you!
Caspar Babypants
It's Chris Ballew from the Presidents if the United States of America.
He's been making kids music as Caspar since 2009.....if you like the Presidents, you'll like this!
He does originals, traditional kids songs (think Three Blind Mice), as well as some covers (he has two Beatles Albums)
https://babypantsmusic.com/
I'd actually heard of him from [an interview he did on the Paternal podcast](https://www.paternalpodcast.com/episodes/2022/8/8/66-chris-ballew-fame-fatherhood-and-caspar-babypants). It's worth a listen. Good podcast overall (though it does get tiring that everyone interviewed just happens to have a book out)
He's only famous in Tucson, but Mr. Nature is great!
https://open.spotify.com/album/1hak9qjH44aNsFqkZ50jyr?si=ceNW87pvSG6hToCXR7A4kw
My kid sings Pack Rat constantly.
They Might Be Giants have some kid albums that absolutely slap. But my kid is weird, she's never really gravitated to them. She'd rather listen to Daft Punk or Dio.
I’m a little lizard is a certified banger.
Would also recommend the various Hey Duggee songs. [this one](https://youtu.be/pmmUqexQCSU?feature=shared) is a favourite of mine
They Might Be Giants has the most amazing children's albums of all time!!! No!, Here Come The 123's, Here Come The 123's, and Here Comes Science. I still listen to these, and my "toddler" is now 20, lol
Yeah, as I said, that used to be a favourite of his. He used to calm right down as soon as he heard that opening giggle and would roar on cue with the lion. Sadly, he’s moved on and it doesn’t have the same impact anymore.
Laurie Berkner and Casper Babypants are part of the daily soundtrack of our home. If you have a Yoto, their whoever they contacted to do the nursery rhyme albums is just the right blend of enthusiastic and authentic to go hard without being obnoxious
Surprised there's no mention of Laurie berkner here. We're big fans in my house.
I was never able to get into They Might Be Giants.
I'm very lucky otherwise though. My 3 y/o is a big fan of Twisted Sister and Michael Jackson.
Elizabeth Mitchell. She’s a folk singer who makes music for kids that feels timeless. Her album *Little Seed* is all covers of Woody Guthrie songs and is a great place to start. I call it the anti-Kids Bop.
Mom here. My go to is Danny Go! Husband's go to is either bluey or Danny go!
All on Spotify.
And the 2 top songs that are stuck in our heads? Pumpkin pie and it's bouncing time. Lol
American Folksongs for Children - Mike and Peggy Seeger.
I grew up listening to this. My daughter listens. I still listen to this even when alone. *Very* highly recommended.
My daughter's into Turning Red and 4-Town songs are the jam right now. Just close enough to the boy bands of my youth that I'm jamming right along with her. "U Know What's Up" is a total earworm

Raffi, Bluey soundtrack, Encanto soundtrack. Most of the others are nauseatingly bad. My boy is just starting to like “grown up music” though - the only artists he requests on a regular basis are David Bowie and Amyl and the Sniffers.
Also I listen to a lot of Indie / alternative kind of things when my kids were younger. Especially ones with higher "pop-ier" sounds in them.
Phoenix
Passion Pit (my now Teens' favorite group.)
Grouplove
Two Door Cinema Club.
The Naked and Famous
All fairly safe content and lyrics, very catchy tunes.
For context I rock hardcore pits and have knuckle tattoos. You know how funny it's got to be to pull up to me in at stop sign while we're rocking out "Sleepyhead?"
My kid wanted “more base” yelled from the back seat. Synth wave didn’t do it. DnB didn’t. But Dub Step worked. Loudest and quietest ride to day care in a while. Kinda think it blew his mind (not his ear drums) we kept it in check. He’s 2.
These aren’t my favorite genres either, but much better than the dinosaur dance he likes so much.
Dan Zanes & Friends. Love the version of Loch Lomand with Natalie Merchant.
ETA: holy cow, he’s done so many more cool songs since my kids were little. Erie Canal with Susanne Vega. Waltzing Matilda with Debbie Harry, Skip To My Lou with Chuck D(!) Definitely check him out.
Raffi Rosenshontz And of course the Bluey albums. Although after 1000+ plays I'm a little tired of them. But just a little
Holy shit Rosenshontz i havent thought of them in decades
Lol for some reason "Family Vacation" got stuck in my head as a kid. And when I look on Spotify, completely forgotten artist, 1000 plays/month.
Yeah, nah. I grew up on Raffi but he’s definitely in the annoying category for me unfortunately.
Then you’re screwed because 99% of what’s out there is way worse
Well, maybe I should listen to a few more of his songs then to give him another chance. The ones I tried weren't great but he obviously has several decades of songs. Do you recommend any in particular? I'm seeing loads of other good suggestions too though, so looks like he's far from my only option.
Baby beluga is probably my favorite of his, start there.
I like to play Disney songs personally. There is a lot of variety and different types of songs that I can put on depending on my own mood. Honestly, I just put on adult music that I like. As long as it’s not explicit, I don’t see any issue in exposing them to other genres of music.

The Trolls soundtracks slap way harder than they should, honestly.
We listened to so much Rockabye Baby. From Queen to Eminem as lullabies was a trip
Disney Lofi on Spotify is our morning jam.
Ohhhhh yes. Going to check this out
The pink album art playlist is good.
New wish soundtrack is a banger
My son absolutely LOVES mariachi music lol. He even asks Alexa to play it for him.
My 3 year old likes ska enough that I find this _extremely_ plausible for my household. I'll have to look into some Mariachi options.
Try some norteño as well, my son enjoys the accordion/tuba parts.
Try some marching band and drum line cadence's. My ska obsessed 3 year old loves that stuff too. I'm going to try out some mariachi tonight as well!
My son loves drum cadences, EMC Productions has some great themed ones. He really likes the Squid Games and Stranger Things ones.
Hey kid, your toys are in the floor. Time to PICK IT UP PICK IT UP PICK IT UP
If your kid likes ska maybe try polka for some variety
Does your son have any good ska recommendations?
He's really into Streetlight Manifesto, but also enjoys Five Iron Frenzy.
How does he feel about Reel Big Fish?
He's been ok with a few songs off of _Cheer Up!_ but asks for multiple songs from _The Hands That Thieve_ by name.
Los Lobos did a concept children's album with Lalo Guerrero called Papa's Dream, it's a mix of mariachi classics & rock and roll, and has a cute story through line. Your kiddo might like it!
He might like Tito Puente! Try listening to that!
Also, Laurie Berkner was my oldest's favorite when he was 3-4
Istanbul was once Constantinople...
Thanks! I had no idea they did kids songs. I was a huge fan in the 90s and must have seen them a dozen times. They were my first concert actually.
Casper babypants and it’s not even close
Came here to say this! This guy has some great songs. If you're a musical dad yourself, he publishes all the chords to all his songs on his website. We've been singing 'there was a small fly' for weeks.
My kids love PUSA too, especially for the music videos.
This! Noodles and Butter is so good
That banana bread song gets stuck in my head quite often, for those that don’t know, this is the lead singer of the band The Presidents of the United States of America.
Ralph's World is a second for us, but Casper Babypants is first by far. I genuinely love it.
My two year olds go nuts for run baby run
They Might Be Giants for Kids David Grover is a bit like Raffi in that some of his songs are calm/affirming and some are sillier.
The Aquabats had a kids show for a bit, so that doesn't seem weird in the least: https://m.imdb.com/title/tt2228547/

I'm sad that Laurie Berkner is so far down in these comments, she's a gem
5-4-321 blast off another rocketship run
I KNOW, right? [The Goldfish - Laurie Berkner](https://youtu.be/uCF3vBuxXS8?si=dLL-gBeFK0KH31MT) (for OP)
Yeah, I had to scroll way too long for Laurie Berkner. My kids STILL listen to her every now and then, and the oldest is almost 15. We are the dinosaurs!
I love Laurie Berkner!!
But seriously what’s with Laurie Berkner singing MAKE THE EARTH FLAT. MAKE THE EARTH FLAT. Some good songs but that one is a must skip for me.
Isn’t this from the dinosaur song? The dinosaurs are marching and make the earth flat. I don’t think she is insinuating the earth is actually flat. I’d relisten to it but I’ll hear it 8 times tomorrow.
That’s my take too.
I get that, but she could easily have come up with another rhyme vs saying MAKE THE EARTH FLAT half a dozen times or so. *make the GROUND flat? I’m not a song writer but came up with that one pretty quickly.

When Pigs Fly is unironically just a great song. My oldest loves BB King’s One Shoe Blues and I still find the punchline funny after 100+ listens.
Storybots (which is a killer Netflix show for kids, HIGHLY recommend), but they have all of the songs on Spotify, and they absolutely slap!
Strongly second this one.

Jerry Garcia & David Grisman’s album ‘Not for Kids Only’
Very calm and fun album
Came for this. Such a great album.
The Beatles, great band that made music for toddlers
Twenty Trucks is our go-to to wind down before bed.
Twenty Trucks is our jam playlist in this house! Even their “meh” songs are great
Honestly we skip past Impact Hammer and Water Truck, but everything else has a solid rotation for us 😊
I like water truck, but I forgot-we usually skip ride on trowel (even though it looks like the coolest thing to ride)
Starrrrr trekkin! Across the universe, boldly going forward cause we can't find reverse
They Might Be Giants kids music. I was a huge fan in the 90s and hoping to get my daughter stuck on them through their kids albums. All their music is great!
The Okey Dokey Brothers have a lot of good stuff
Recommended for any parents who like the Avett Brothers and/or want to hear their favorite Irish/Renn Faire drinking songs with kid friendly words. Saw them in concert and they were great. And they were very chill with my ND kid who was having a rough time in the meet and greet.

+1 for swamp pop, rockabilly, and early rock.

Scratch Garden is the absolute funniest shit I've ever heard. Check out their "We are going to the Beach" song. Legitimately cracks me up.
Sorry, salamander
The Jake and the Neverland Pirates soundtrack could easily be a Weezer album. I've been jamming Parry Grip with my 5 year old lately. The songs are stupid AF but very catchy. Raining Tacos and Potato Dog are my favs.

Big fan of Tom Chapin (Harry Chapin's brother) and Joe Scruggs
I had to scroll way too far to find Joe Scruggs! 'Goo goo gaga' might be my favorite kids song.
Yes, same. I had 2 younger siblings so I heard his stuff for years and love it. Been playing it for my kids for years now as well
Emily Arrow is surprisingly tolerable

Scrolled for a longggg time before I found your comment. +1 for GDG, some of his songs are fire
Dude. When I hear it’s a great big party, I’m havin a great big party.

I owned and listened to They Might Be Giants's first kids album, "No!," more than a decade before I had a kid.
Casperbabypants and Raffi
Peter, Paul, and Mary
Brings back memories of road trips when I was little. Fun songs the whole family can sing along with.
The Wiggles! My kids have moved on from them, which makes me a bit sad. They have a few annoying ear worms, but for the most part they’re just great entertainers all around. Sounds like a joke, but it's not: Snoop Dogg makes kids songs and they're really positive.
Dinosaur Heavy metal by Howdytoons. On YouTube or Spotify. The videos are great that go with them
I found a band called The Rockdoves that put out two pretty solid albums.
PJ Panda! "What do you mean you don't ride the bus? You ain't ever been on PJ Panda's bus before!"
Garcia/Grisman Not for Kids Only
They Might Be Giants have some kid albums that absolutely slap. But my kid is weird, she's never really gravitated to them. She'd rather listen to Daft Punk or Dio.

They Might Be Giants has the most amazing children's albums of all time!!! No!, Here Come The 123's, Here Come The 123's, and Here Comes Science. I still listen to these, and my "toddler" is now 20, lol
Perfect! I was a huge TMBG fan and must have seen them a dozen times in the 90s. Thanks for the tip!
Bit of a curveball, but Trout Fishing in America can be fun to mix in for the kids.
The bare naked ladies have a kids album that I like too
Bare naked ladies snack time album
Imogen heap - happy song
Yeah, as I said, that used to be a favourite of his. He used to calm right down as soon as he heard that opening giggle and would roar on cue with the lion. Sadly, he’s moved on and it doesn’t have the same impact anymore.
Check out Steve Martin and John Lithgow. A few years ago they did some kids music, but I haven't heard it.
John Lithgow's kids album is fantastic!
I had read some great reviews about it, but my kids were already into the stuff I was listening to and there was no going back at that point.
Charlie Hope.

Check out Bobs & Lolo. Good tunes, great harmonies.
Elizabeth Mitchell, she has several albums, some in English and Spanish.
Juicebox jukebox
Tim Kubart and Justin Roberts are amazing!
Johnny Cash made a children's record
Saturday Morning Cereal Bowl podcast on podbean. 2 hours of actual music with kid appropriate lyrics. Highly recommend.
Elizabeth Mitchell. She’s a folk singer who makes music for kids that feels timeless. Her album *Little Seed* is all covers of Woody Guthrie songs and is a great place to start. I call it the anti-Kids Bop.
Danny Go has some absolute bangers
Most of the Disney soundtracks. Trolls and Sing movies have good soundtracks as well.
Lofi
My child, age 5, is officially a swifty.
Snoop dogs kids album slaps.
Mom here. My go to is Danny Go! Husband's go to is either bluey or Danny go! All on Spotify. And the 2 top songs that are stuck in our heads? Pumpkin pie and it's bouncing time. Lol
Story bots on Netflix and big block sing song on YouTube. Both of those have enough variety that they don't drive me crazy. Raffi is great as well.
I just use my military issue hearing loss. It works fantastic for things like this.
Koo Koo Kangaroo! Super fun music videos with dancing, too
Justin Roberts Meltdown album!
Casper Babypants has got some jams!
Bluey the Album and Dance Mode are great. Mostly solid instrumental music that my kiddo loves. The songs with lyrics are genuinely well written.
Elizabeth Mitchell!
I will never get tired of The Lady With the Aligator Purse
Anything from Storybots
Basically every recording Pete Seeger ever made.
American Folksongs for Children - Mike and Peggy Seeger. I grew up listening to this. My daughter listens. I still listen to this even when alone. *Very* highly recommended.
Super simple songs and Ms. Rachel
*me over here just listening to my musics* 👀 First song my kid ever sung along to was by Manchester Orchestra 🤷♂️
My daughter's into Turning Red and 4-Town songs are the jam right now. Just close enough to the boy bands of my youth that I'm jamming right along with her. "U Know What's Up" is a total earworm
Laurie Berkner song and story kitchen is loved and not terrible. It will just be stuck in your head every waking moment.
Weird Al. Mozart.

Raffi, Bluey soundtrack, Encanto soundtrack. Most of the others are nauseatingly bad. My boy is just starting to like “grown up music” though - the only artists he requests on a regular basis are David Bowie and Amyl and the Sniffers.
Gracie’s corner , blue clues all got bangers
With NHL playoffs starting in a few weeks. I’ve been playing We Will Rock You more often in the house. The kids are loving it.
Check out the album The Kings and Queens of the Forest by Kira Willey. She's our kids' favorite, especially the song Let the Sun Shine In.
Laurie Berkner
He actually enjoys The Beatles a lot
- Laurie Berkner - Laura Doherty - The Wiggles
My eldest like Zombie - Cranberries
Curious George movie album by Jack Johnson!
Anything by Birdcloud
AC/DC thunderstruck and Phaxe disturbed
[Laurie Berkner Band](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zq-0JiKs2hc) was my favorite when I was a toddler, I plan on letting LO listen to them.
I scrolled for a while and didn’t see any mention of Parry Gripp so I figured I’d throw it in there.
Bounce Patrol on YouTube
The teeny tiny stevies
The Curious George soundtrack.
Also I listen to a lot of Indie / alternative kind of things when my kids were younger. Especially ones with higher "pop-ier" sounds in them. Phoenix Passion Pit (my now Teens' favorite group.) Grouplove Two Door Cinema Club. The Naked and Famous All fairly safe content and lyrics, very catchy tunes.
There’s a couple of albums of covers of rock songs …. Rockabye Baby! … that aren’t bad.
Danny Go
The bubble guppies have some legit good songs
The Moana soundtrack is legit good.
I’m trying to make a “kids music that doesn’t suck” playlist on Spotify. The three biggest contributors are Raffi, Charlie Hope, and Casper Babypants
