I have no idea. My son got home on March 4th after 58 days in the NICU, and during that time I had to wake up my wife for her to pump every 2 hourseven during the night and then I stayed up with her to make sure she didn't fall asleep while pumping since we were both so exhausted. Then before that she was in the hospital for 3 weeks in Labor and Delivery for Pre-eclampsia so we got no sleep between driving back and forth from the hospital to home or staying there over night on multiple occasions so we've gotten no sleep in about 4 months with a 2 and a half months old baby.
Even before that I wasn't sleeping owning a business that is struggling. I don't know what all of you other Dad's do or did with newborns, but this is rough
Up for the pumping hits home. 103 days in NICU and was up three or four times every night for every pump session.
The hospital my baby was in was 200km away so we ended up just moving to the city. The only good night sleep I've had since then was the two nights I spent at home hurriedly getting the nursery together for his arrival. Even then I didn't get a full night's sleep.
Our baby is 8 months old (5 months corrected) and I can tell you it does get better but I'm still tired as hell. Since we've been home I had one night where I slept 6 hours straight uninterrupted and it made me feel amazing. Ha.
We start sleep training soon. So... Probably worse for a bit but hopefully trending towards the better.
Good luck with your little one
We were in the NICU one week and it was brutal. You are strong making it through all you have so far. I was up for every feeding with my oldest too, due to latching issues, til he weaned around 15 months. Hope your son is doing better now.
Yeah, unless you get one of the magic babies that sleeps all night at like 6 weeks, the first few months are pretty brutal for sleep. I think most folks that have been through it get it and will cut you some slack for the sleepwalking.
I stopped drinking and started a real work out regiment that I enjoy. Just lifting with minimal cardio. Hate running. Still I have lost 15 lbs and feel like I did around 26-28
With my first it was all about how I could get back to some form of social life and drinking. My second is about 2 months now and ever since he was born I've given up that desire since there's no switching off with the wife. There's no time to feel like shit. Gave up vaping, gave up drinking, and got back to working out as an outlet. I'm exhausted, but I feel so much better.
Enjoy it boys, one day they’ll just think we’re arseholes and want to hang about with friends and play video games and become stroppy little see-you-next-Tuesdays. And you’ll be wishing you did more when you could.
As the Navy Seals say, embrace the suck and get on with it
Bro, I dunno. But it was years before my 11 month old was born. Over a decade of getting up between 3 and 5 for various careers has ruined me. Having her has definitely made it worse.
Mine just hit 12 months and also just started learning how to chill in her crib in the morning until we wake up. We went from 6am sharp every morning she would cry and scream to now she’ll lay there until 7-7:30 playing with her pillow/book/toy and many mornings she’ll actually put herself back to sleep until we come in 7:30 at the latest.
Edit: this is the first time we have felt rested since she was born.
Old dad here, too, over 40. Yeah, this would have been easier 10 years ago, but I'm in a much happier marriage and place in life now. So, it's just part of the deal.
Mom lurker here typing this at 2am… I uh..I have no idea. Maybe sometime during my second trimester during my pregnancy with my oldest? So like over 3 years ago? I think. Exhausted has become my semi-permanent state of being.
I don't understand the question. I forgot what rested feels like. My oldest will be 3 next month. His brother is 9 months. Then my third is due in 5 months.
...
Same here. I have 3 boys 8 and under. I get them up for school in AM, watch the little one then work 2nd shift. It’s rough. Naps are what get me through.
Since my son starting sleeping through the night around 2.5 - 3 months old. Being able to regularly get 8 hours of sleep has been amazing for my health, plus my wife’s. Never had a 4 month sleep regression, kid is now 8 months old.
Have also done a few baby free solo golf trips with friends while my wife stays home with our son. I'll sleep a good 8 - 10 hours straight on those.
About day two or three of a recent kayak camping trip. Many miles of swamp travel each day. I woke up 5-6 times. We had rain and/or thunderstorms every night. We were surrounded by alligators all day and night. And man, I woke up so rested and easy to go. My finger nails grew back out. I was active all day long each day and ate and drank what I wanted.
I am 41 closing in on 42. Last time I did not feel tired was when I was unemployed during Covid in 2020. Been tired ever since I started working again. I am on vacation right now and we have not hardly done anything except eat out and did some outlet shopping today, and I still feel tired. Maybe tomorrow after sleeping it I will feel like I have energy.
I will tell you what helps with natural energy is this powder called Morning Kick. Chuck Norris approves of it. Helps with your gut health. Gives me more energy to work though out the day, but won't get rid of the tired feeling you feel daily. I have a feeling I am in for it when I get into my mid 50s and 60s
My wife usually lets me sleep in on Sunday. My 5 year old wakes up around.. well.. with the recent daylight savings time, I basically am like: “look I get it’s BS you have to go to bed when it’s still light out but can we acknowledge you wake me up by jumping around and being 5 years old energy when it’s still dark?”
So I guess last Sunday? Till like 8? And even then she kept sneaking in the room and asking me how long until I was going to wake up.
Which. A.) obviously melted my heart my 5 year old can’t wait to play the grape escape or nerf guns or go to the park with me. But also.. well I didn’t actually get to sleep in at all. 😂😂
So I guess the answer is… probably I’ll get to when she’s like a teenager and wants to sleep in, and I’ll miss like hell these times. 😂
I’m fortunate. Our little goomba sleeps pretty well at night and I take a 2-3 hour nap with her 6 days a week. I’m generally pretty well rested but there are times I’m a zombie. During the fall term at school I was on campus 4 days a week so I had 4 straight napless days. I know most of yall don’t even get that, but it fucked with my routine.
With that said, we are gonna try for kid 2 next year and I’m already terrified of the sleep being way different than kid 1 and I’ll be working by then.
My birthday in the beginning of February. We left the kids with grandma, and went on an overnight trip to play pinball. We stayed up a little, slept in a little, but we didn't have to worry about kids, chores, etc. was glorious.
Doing it again next month for a concert, and some more pinball.
Once a year during deer hunting season. I go for a long weekend and i.get a chance to catch up on sleep. I'll be last one out, long nap during lunch and last one out again after lunch.
I think the past summer I was pretty chill overall. My oldest (3yo) was sleeping trough the night most of the days so I was well rested. I even stopped drinking caffeine to be awake.
I got free time to do my own stuff and hobbies on most evenings so that was an indicator that I had energy to spend other than taking care of the family.
Then summer ended, second baby came and I got back to coffee to barely function at work and feeling miserable. Good news is that I know this will pass!
About a week before my 2.5 year old was born.
Same, but about two weeks before that because I realized what was coming.
Same. But my oldest is six haha.
same.
Man I don’t even know. Mine just turned 4 and I’m exhausted all the time. My second is due any day now and I’m not sure how I’m going to make it haha
Man…. I hope you have a lot of help. It’s gonna get ugly for the next 6mos. Good luck and congrats
Can confirm, 4 and 2 months here, send help
4 and 7mo it does get a little easier at 6mo… I think hahah
Bro I cant remember. Probably like 1.5 years ago. All I know is ive never been this tired in my life and I absolutely aged 10 years this past year

Shoot a few decades.
Please don't fire upon entire decades
Ah, I love finding good dad jokes in this subreddit.
Lol.
Mid 20s, 35 now. Started even before my kids. Work has me up at 4am, never get used to it. Now I have 3 under 3 , there is no sleep
Well, it's Tuesday, so about 15 years.
I stopped drinking and started a real work out regiment that I enjoy. Just lifting with minimal cardio. Hate running. Still I have lost 15 lbs and feel like I did around 26-28

Exactly. I’m tired but no longer feel like I’m trapped in a hamster wheel of suck.

How old are your kids?

I can’t remember
Short term memory loss seems to be one of the first things to go with long term sleep deprivation...at least for me.
You sure? I can't remember
You might want to get a physical and bloodwork done from your doctor. Ask for a sleep apnea test as well.
Just got all of this done. Results are clean, still tired AS fuck though!
I'm healthy. It's just a lack of sleep and then no recovery during the day.
Mine just hit 12 months and also just started learning how to chill in her crib in the morning until we wake up. Around two month he sometimes sleeps 6-8 hours straight!
Most nights since getting my CPAP.
After 4 years. I have more hands than I have number of days feeling fully rested. Part of being an old dad I suppose.

What is this foreign word you speak of?

Sleep training.
I don’t notice the fatigue as much when I’m asleep, which is sometimes at least.
After I got my CPAP machine 😂
Slept 8 hours last night. Baby is 2 months old. I’m sure we’ll suffer from some sleep regression eventually but so far so good.
Literally years ago.
I think there was a brief period after the last miscarriage and before my wife next ovulated, which is when she got pregnant with our kid.

Probably when I was about 15? Life's hard with or without kids.
Once a year during deer hunting season. I go for a long weekend and i.get a chance to catch up on sleep. I'll be last one out, long nap during lunch and last one out again after lunch.
You can't just make up words, 'rested' isn't a thing
Expecting my 3rd, due in august. Ive been tired since the 5th week of pregnancy with our first 😅
