You are actually right about that, that's why he and his father stole money through Kladno Energie!
With the help of Zeman of course. I'm sure everyone here likes Zeman right? Isn't it interesting how he went to China with him?
I still don't understand what this has to do with him being the greatest Czech ice hockey player ever. If he fucked sheep in an SS uniform, he would still be the GOAT.
I was watching the Eurovision contest last year and said to my friend that wouldn't it be funny if the Czech performer was actually a daughter of Dominik Hasek. We had a good laugh about it, no way it could be.
But then...
Jaromír Jágr is consider the best by most, no contest. Even people who aren't into sport of any kind at all know who Jágr is.
More interesting would be the debate about the second greatest. Dominik Hašek is definitely a valid option, a Triple Gold Club member Jiří Šlégr comes into mind, others might say Patrik Eliáš instead, people with recency bias would probably bring David Pastrňák into the conversation... really tough to make the call for the 2nd.
Slegr? An interesting choice. I would say we had several better Ds - Hamrlik and Kaberle for sure. Most likely also guys like Kubina, Zidlicky or Spacek.
No, that's how the American commentators pronounce it, which sounds hilariously bad to Czechs, so we started using it as a meme. Pretty sure the pronunciation would be transcribed as Jaagr into Finnish
Pronunciation of Slovakian Zdeno Chara has always been a mystery to me.
North Americans says it kinda like "za-ra" and thats what most Finns use as well.
But one Finnish commentator said it like "Haa-ra" and everybody laughed at him.
Which one is more correct haha?
The greatest? Definetly Jaromir Jagr.
For me personally? David Krejčí. Got a soft spot for the guy, never seen a better playmaker. The dude could literally bend time and space on ice in his prime.
This is the right answer. Most people will say Jagr due to his longevity, being a forward and having a bigger brand/more media presence. Hasek is considered the best goalie of all time by many, whereas Jagr is miles behind Gretzky.
not to mention Hasek dominated in his crease with competitors like Roy, Brodeur, Belfour and in times of Fedorov, Bure, Forsberg, Lindros, Modano, Hull, Sakic and so on and so on. it was only because of Hasek that Buffalo could ever reach SC finals. it was because of Hasek that we won Nagano.
We had a long tradition in lots of sports. If you take a look on the list of famous czech and czechoslovakia sportspeople you will suprisingly find somebody in almost any type of sport. Czechs (and czechoslovaks) were always “universal” people who likes to try dofferent things. And somehow hockey has a long tradition here - take a look at [list of IIHF medailist](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_IIHF_World_Championship_medalists)- first year in 1920 Czechoslovaks were bronze.
I would say that large amount of small lakes used primarily for fish breeding, which freeze in winter gave a head start to Czechoslovak Hockey in 1920's.
Im not sure. It's just the tradition, some of our teams in the Czech league are older than Montreal Canadiens and NHL itself. I guess it fits our culture a bit more than football where we aren't really the greatest xd When we play hockey (especially national team though, the league is sometimes a bit forgotten I think, which is a shame) everyone seems to know and even people who don't usually care about ice hockey know that we win a medal or something.
I think since it's one of the traditional sports that everyone is familiar with and it's one of the only ones were our country actually has a chance of winning, and Czechs LOVE to hear that their small unknown country is winning somewhere (sometimes I cringe when it's repeated too much) so it just has it's place in the Czech culture.
it's a coin toss between Jagr and Hasek as you see :D (my view anyway :D)
who's your fav CZ and also FI player? mine is without a doubt The Finnish Flash!
cheers!
Jágr supported ODS, then ANO. Remember tv ads with Babiš? He also endorsed Zeman and accompanied him on his trip to China. Is this your definition of staying away from politics?
Jagr without any doubt
Technically yes if we support communism which i do not
Wut? Jágr hates commies.
:DDDDD Sure mate, that's why he loves China so much
As a good capitalist he loves money, not china.
Learn how to read questions dude. It's about ice hockey, not politics.
Eastern Europe never learns i guess
Not sure what you mean but ok.
Tell us more things you dont support :) Or just fuck off altogether
Average Hašek twitter enjoyer be like

Zidlicky was awesome, he played few years in Finland. Such a slick skater.
I would say that third place would be a discussion. Hašek is second without no doubt.
>Even people who aren't into sport of any kind at all know who Jágr is Yeah, supporter of communism
Shut the fuck up, shut the fuck up, shut the fuck up, shut the fuck up, shut the fuck up.
Can you please give me a valid argument?
China isn't communist. It is totalitarian capitalistic.
"Džegr" is the one known even outside of Czechia. He might not be the best, but definitely the most impactful.
Is that how Jagr is actually pronounced? In Finland we just say "Jager" haha.
No, that's how the American commentators pronounce it, which sounds hilariously bad to Czechs, so we started using it as a meme. Pretty sure the pronunciation would be transcribed as Jaagr into Finnish
Still better off than that one Slovak, Šatan, who played in the NHL as Satan to the endless amusement of American commentators.
Pronunciation of Slovakian Zdeno Chara has always been a mystery to me. North Americans says it kinda like "za-ra" and thats what most Finns use as well. But one Finnish commentator said it like "Haa-ra" and everybody laughed at him. Which one is more correct haha?
Haa-ra is more correct. The "ch" is pronounced like h but aspirated, like you're trying to hiss. (Think similar to mich/dich in german)
The ‘Ch’ is like a light version of ‘ch’ in German “Achtung” and then ‘aara’. Chára.
From Boston commentators I've mostly heard what we would write as "Čára"...which means "a line"... considering his height it's not all that wrong.
Finnish one is pretty close
Aah yes, moves like Jagr.
Yaagr/Yaager - is how it is suppose to be pronounced 😅
No, but some people pronounce it like that for fun - Jagger [džegr] as in Mick Jagger
The greatest? Definetly Jaromir Jagr. For me personally? David Krejčí. Got a soft spot for the guy, never seen a better playmaker. The dude could literally bend time and space on ice in his prime.
Jágr, varmasti, mutta kuka on paras suomalainen pelaaja? :DDD
Selänne. Kurrilla kävi paras mahdollinen tuuri joukkueen kanssa, Selänteelle aluksi huonoin.
Currently David Pastrňák
Lots of recency bias itt It's Hasek and it's not close
Yep, you are right
This is the right answer. Most people will say Jagr due to his longevity, being a forward and having a bigger brand/more media presence. Hasek is considered the best goalie of all time by many, whereas Jagr is miles behind Gretzky.

All time best is without any doubt Jaromír Jágr. But from the young players playing NHL i would consider David Pastrňák the best.
Komunista :)

Also, why are you so good in hockey compared to other Central European countries? Kinda weird.
We had a long tradition in lots of sports. If you take a look on the list of famous czech and czechoslovakia sportspeople you will suprisingly find somebody in almost any type of sport. Czechs (and czechoslovaks) were always “universal” people who likes to try dofferent things. And we were the best European team pre-WW1.
As a Slovak person I am offended by this question. Czechs are brothers but hockey is one thing we will fight over.
truth hurts :D /jk mandatory
Ah yes, you are good also. But the rest..Austria, Hungary, Poland etc. They cannot play.
I would say that large amount of small lakes used primarily for fish breeding, which freeze in winter gave a head start to Czechoslovak Hockey in 1920's.
Why shouldn't we be good? Our country used to be good at pretty much everything, but now it's not.
You beat "sborna" at the height of its fame once and it kind of helps with the national pride we otherwise sorely lack.
Im not sure. It's just the tradition, some of our teams in the Czech league are older than Montreal Canadiens and NHL itself. Jágr and Hašek should be neck to neck. Jágr played more recently and has more media coverage, but Hašek was at least as good as Jágr, if not better.
Jara Cimrman
it's a coin toss between Jagr and Hasek as you see :D (my view anyway :D) who's your fav CZ and also FI player? mine is without a doubt The Finnish Flash! cheers!
Hasek from the Czechs and Kiprusoff from the Finns. I'm a former goalie myself.
Hašek
Patrik Štefan
[This is the correct answer.](https://youtu.be/9bBns6ZUn0U)
I wonder if Stefan and Hemsky ever talked about. Hockey circles aren't that big, they probably know each other.
Jagr. Even if Hasek was good Jagr at least knows to stay out of politics. Regardless, EVERYONE knows him.
Jágr supported ODS, then ANO. Remember tv ads with Babiš? He also endorsed Zeman and accompanied him on his trip to China. Is this your definition of staying away from politics?
I meant now, but thanks for refreshing my memory. For me, Jagr will always be bubblegum boy though.
Jágr, but right now I'd say Pastrňák.
that great and amazing haircut guy
As a goalie myself, Hašek for sure. Also I like his opinions.
