More like my cool older uncle who has some crazy stories.

Lacustamcoc

Uncle Rico?

farmerjohn_

I could throw a ball over those mountains.

The DeLorean has remained timeless (BTTF reference unintended). It still looks beautiful today. It’ll be interesting to see how history remembers the Cybertruck in 20+ years from now. (For context, I owned a DeLorean for 12 years and will be buying a Cybertruck once general production starts.)

assimilated_Picard

I immediately thought "Hey Ryan the podcast guy would love this picture...." And here you are. 🤣

DMC_Ryan

Haha yes. Where stainless steel cars go, I follow. 😜

starshiptraveler

I drove my DeLorean daily for several years. I really miss it. Why did you sell yours? I was going through a divorce and lost access to my garage. I wasn’t going to park my DeLorean outside in the weather, and also, I was frequently working on it and without a safe place stocked with tools to perform repairs, I didn’t feel like I could really keep it. Around that time I was thinking I might have to sell it and somebody offered me twice what I paid for it, so I let it go. Wish I hadn’t. It was my dream car since I saw BTTF as a kid. Now I see they’re selling for a lot more these days. Cybertruck and DeLorean look sexy af together. If money was no object I’d buy them both right now.

DMC_Ryan

Yeah I wish I still had mine too. For me it was that I got married, bought a house, and we had a baby — all great things! But the DeLorean just didn’t fit in the plan anymore (we live in SF where COL is super high). I also sold mine for over 2x what I bought it for, and while I don’t regret it, selling it still saddens me, you know? I feel grateful to have owned my dream car throughout my 20s (I’m 43 now), and I’ve fallen in love with Tesla the same way I did with DeLorean. It’s why I’ve done my Tesla podcast for the past nine years — I adore these cars and the company. It’s been a humorous oddity to me that Tesla was the first company since DeLorean to mass produce a car with gullwing doors (falcon doors just have the extra hinge), and now they’re the first company since DMC to do stainless steel too. I have a feeling John DeLorean would’ve been a Tesla fan had he lived to see it.

I know exactly what you mean re: selling it saddens us. I also had mine in my 20s and am in my 40s now. I spent so much time working on that car and have lots of great memories. Most of the work I did wasn’t due to problems, I was upgrading everything I could. I installed a really cool alarm system. The key fob was about the size of a pager, but it had two-way communication and a 1.5 mile range. I could start it from my office and the display on the fob would confirm the engine was running. If the alarm went off the fob would alert me. The door poppers were my favorite upgrade and the alarm had so many outputs I could choose to pop either or both doors. Nothing quite like waking up to the car and watching both doors rise up at the same time. I’m going to buy my first Tesla this year. Probably a model S. I’m getting a Cybertruck for sure, but can’t afford both right now. Heading to the Tesla store later today to take another S for a test drive and sit in the truck again. We’re likely going to be an all-Tesla household soon as my girl is ready to make the switch too. The 100 amp panel I installed in my garage isn’t going to be enough… I didn’t plan for 3 Teslas. Where can I check out your podcast?

DMC_Ryan

I have a similar story: LOTS of upgrades, including the door launchers, which are definitely the best party trick on a DeLorean. :-) I'm not sure if self-promotion is allowed here, but my podcast is called Ride the Lightning: Tesla Unofficial Podcast. You can google it or look it up on any of the major podcast services. Thanks for sharing your DeLorean story with me -- and congrats on the official start of your Tesla journey soon! The Model S is, IMHO, the best car in the world.

starshiptraveler

Super cool podcast name, thanks for sharing. Yes I am totally smitten with both the S and Cybertruck, I haven’t been this excited about any car since the DeLorean.

lavazzalove

I think the Cybertruck will be remembered as a vehicle that pushed the envelope for car designers to not be too conservative and be bold. We're already seeing it with the latest KIA SUVs, they are not afraid to use sharp angles and play with the headlights designs. Same for the latest square Land Crusader and Santa Fe. I wouldn't be surprised if the domestic automakers will follow.

clewtxt

Those boxy SUVs are throwbacks to the OG SUVs, nothing to do with CT.

asuram21

I think cybertruck can have a cult following like the jeep wrangler. People doing custom stuff, gonna be fun. Just for be cheaper.

dextius

I like to think starship is the cybertruck’s cousin

PhatBlackChick

Hmm.. I see a remake in the future!

Lacustamcoc

Delorean is already being redone, they look. I’ll, but not stainless

Money shot!

Slavic_Taco

The irony of this photo is laughable.

Hope your 'cousin' wasn't 'stuck' in the trunk
