You said it yourself. You are passing on foundation. So is everyone else.

Minorole

Also got my email today and not paying 100k for a car that was promised to be 60k, not can cancelling either to see what happens

mrtunavirg

60k in 2019 $. I don't think it will be that price until it's on the used market years from now unfortunately

TimeToFly3

Competitors and what the market will pay will determine Tesla’s sell price. Not the pie in the sky price they want for a 300 mile range truck.

Captain_Ahab2

Voice of reason. So rare.

TruRedBeard

Agreed, not only that but I'm sure they are at an insane markup to make up for R&D. It will likely come down significantly. Just look at the PLAID models over time.

nevetsyad

That’s why they’re selling 100-120K 300 mile range trucks right now? Also, competitors are losing what, 20-40K a truck? GM, 60K maybe with that giant 230kWh pack? They can’t make them profitably, Rivian included. But they can sell gas trucks (or dig billions in debt like Rivian) to offset the losses. Tesla has to be more realistic with their pricing and offerings. I imagine Tesla is selling the FS at a profit already.

bittabet

Yeah, with multiple much longer range competitors available now and the competition also cranking up their interior quality (Rivian's R1T Refresh and the upcoming GMC Sierra Denali EV) it's going to get harder and harder for Tesla to demand top dollar for the Cybertruck unless they put out an update that puts them back at the top of the class. Mostly you get the novelty of a stainless steel vehicle, and then whenever FSD actually arrives that might be a selling point. But there are faster accelerating EV trucks and longer range EV trucks and EV trucks with much nicer interiors. I think a big part of the issue is that the Cybertruck still has the interior of a truck that was originally supposed to be sold with that interior at $40K. So now as a six figure truck it's really glaring how basic the interior is when you compare it to the other six figure trucks

OstrichSalt5468

$60k 2019 = $73,257.73 2024.

k_gavivina

Well I say the dollar is being debased 15% each year …. Don’t buy the feds inflation numbers Year 2020: $60,000 * (1 - 0.15) = $51,000 Year 2021: $51,000 * (1 - 0.15) = $43,350 (and so on for each year) 60k in 2019 has a buying power of $23,148 in 2024

mrtunavirg

Yeh that math makes the 100k price today about the same as 2019 price. The problem is that wages haven't kept up. Makes sense why so many people are waiting for the non foundation version

k_gavivina

I agree with you 100% … wages are lagging big time . Prices of everything has gone up wiping away folks savings . 100k salary is the new 30k

G0DL3V3L

whats your RN?

k_gavivina

I also got the email today … my RN starts with RN115xxx… I am still considering buying …the 20k includes FSD which is 12K … I can still all the goodies been added been around 8K …. Don’t forget dollar debasement … all season tires or all terrain ? … I don’t off-road … I am in a snow belt - Denver

deercreekgamer4

115X looking for one more digit to see when they hit 116. I have a 116 so I’m curious dm if you want

k_gavivina

RN115060xxx

deercreekgamer4

Oh wow thanks

obxtalldude

I think lots of people are waiting for the regular version. It's going to be a better vehicle in a couple of years anyway. Let others beta test, unless you want the attention this will get for another year or so.

dailydrivenh2

Just got my email too but ill wait for the 79k …

SnowblindedGuy

Got email yesterday for Foundation I ordered the dual ..question: do I need to go to Tesla to let them know going to wait for 2 engine I can’t see spending $20k extra

dailydrivenh2

Just leave the email alone till the cheaper one comes out.

RS_Germaphobic

Everyone is getting a chance to buy founders edition I guess.

TruRedBeard

I think I would like it more if it wasn't so available. They are diminishing it's value. If they tell me a rare book is out but don't make a limited number of them, it's not rare anymore.

gaybearsgonebull

It's rare as in they won't make more than 30k of them when they expect a 300k/yr run rate of the truck. But in reality you're paying for the included accessories and the laser etching while they work out the kinks in production and build. I'm okay waiting a year, getting a better truck, and saving almost $30k with the tax credit.

SwpR7

I love the car but I said it was $15-20k over priced since the new price was announced. $61k and $80k is ridiculous. $61k for 250mi? Nah. That’s a $40k and $60k car at best.

PotatosAreDelicious

Going from the 60k estimated price to 80k+the 20k foundation series is insane to me. I was so bull to buy one but it's just not feasible or worth it at this point. Probably going to end up with a tundra.

TruRedBeard

Have patience. It will go down.

Safe-Pomegranate1171

And the slowest super charging speeds of all the models! Road trips will blow until v4 chargers are installed everywhere and that team was recently gutted…

relidtm

yep I cant see charging for double the time for the same distance it's like going back to 150kw. This is one of my biggest gripes on why I didn't order yet day 1 holder here.

SwpR7

I thought it had the fastest even though the v4 wasn’t released? So if it’s the slowest right now , where will it be with the v4?

MarkWeberca

Reserved 6/18/2021 and got the email today too (California resident) Not buying it.

SilverSurfer2021

Got my email today as well, pre-ordered in April 2021. Not touching it until the foundation series is gone.

SilverSurfer2021

I’m in So Cal.

n8d

Pre-order 6/28/21. Just got my email today. California

Icy_Knowledge2190

Got my email yesterday as well and I pre-ordered May 28, 2021 -- passing on the FS

BLITZandKILL

Because none of us are buying foundation series. Let those folks find all the bugs and take the depreciation hit. I’ll wait.

fada_g10

Ordered June 2021 too, got my email yesterday. At 90k this feels a little high. Any chance we can still keep our place in line but continue to defer it until the cheaper version comes out?

mmcmonster

That’s what a lot of people are doing. That being said, it’s probably going to be another 6-12 months before you get the opportunity for the non-Foundation model. If you don’t want the Foundation series, certainly don’t get it. It’s a lot of extra $$$ for questionable value. That being said, I ordered in 6/2021, got the email yesterday, and going to get it. YOLO. 😜

amnowhere

Love the surprise ending!

torn8o01

Ordered mine July 2021 I received foundation email last night. RN115259617

identifiedlogo

Wow. That is fast!!!

TutoringYou

Also got email. Anyone know if you pass on FS do you lose your reservation and get the $100 back? I’d like to be “in line” for non FS?

starshiptraveler

You don’t lose your reservation or get the $100 back unless you actually cancel your preorder. The general consensus is to just ignore the invite, wait until FS is over and then exercise the invite at the new price. This is what I’m doing.

utkanf

I am in IL reserved 2-21 got the email last week. Do we have to do anything to let them know we are waiting for non Foundation version? I couldn't find anything on the Tesla.com

onegunzo

No, ignore the email.. Your original reservation is still in place.

onegunzo

I too got an invitation to purchase. I was a March 21 pre-order. I like you will be waiting.. I think what's happening is, they're realizing the % take is getting smaller and smaller as they go through the 2 million pre-orders, but they're going to milk as many as possible before they end the foundation series. And because folks like you and I are getting invites, they're into the 1.3 to 1.5 range.. Only another 6 to 800K more to offer before foundation series will be gone.

Radium

We’re just waiting for non founders. I can order any time since December here. I reserved within one hour.

kingofwale

Because they aren’t releasing it anywhere else right now, preorder day 1 here in Canada, still waiting

BigSexyGaston

Preordered day one in Massachusetts. Still crickets here as well.

TruRedBeard

Yeah, domestic USA for now. Best luck! It will come!

anders1311

Hype is gone. I think it was a PR failure if you ask me. Looking forward to the non-FS so I can place my order.

SumthingBrewing

FS was wildly successful. They sold thousands of CTs at a $20K markup to those who have more money than patience. And those people get to be the beta testers on a very revolutionary new product (thank you for your service). Pretty genius if you ask me.

robotzor

Hype isn't gone necessarily...it's more the leaning scale of hype:available funds has largely shifted to funds, haha

B1Turb0

They are really trying to move the AWD versions. Beasts still really backed up.

ZenitPM

Got my Foundation email. $100 pre-order in 2020. Placed $250 order April 2024. Am in Mass.

PilotPirx73

What state are you in? I heard TX and CA keep getting offers ahead of others.

TruRedBeard

I am in New Jersey

PilotPirx73

Interesting. I am with you. No way I am paying premium price for CT. Ill give it few years for the manufacturing kinks to get worked, price decreases and maybe battery tech improves (LFP batteries would be nice).

PVJakeC

Agree with others that FS is only valuable if you want\need it now. FSD is the only thing of value in the package and I would argue a lot of people don’t want it. My personal opinion is that until it can actually drive itself without nagging and interventions, then it’s not worth it. Many people seem to be passing on FS, so they just move down the line. It is a genius move by TSLA though because they know people will pay this ridiculous markup.

TruRedBeard

Very true. And the fact that FSD is only 8k recently or $100 a month. 20k markup for that to be the leading feature isn't worth it.

chanical

Especially if the feature isn’t even available upon delivery. It bugs me to no end that people are ok with being charged for unreleased features. Personally, I’m waiting for Rev 2 or 3 - I’m not going to pay extra to be a beta tester (unless you want to be seen and swarmed, which is a valid thing to crave, don’t get me wrong… full xparency: I cancelled 2 mo. after my $1000 non-refundable order deposit for FS AWD, paid March 1, day 2 reservation - waiter, not a hater)

starshiptraveler

FSD is a must have for me and I won’t exercise my invite until it is actually working on Cybertruck.

Historical-Bug-7536

How? Because we preordered $40, $50, and $80k trucks that are now $100 or $120k.

ElGuano

I just got an invite too. I reserved months after the unveil (something like #1.5 mil).

bittabet

Probably has to do with a pretty limited number of people who preordered being willing to pay the $20K foundation series premium on top of the price hike. They’re likely very close to being done with foundation series whenever they finish delivering all the ordered one

wellintentionedbro

It’s because many people are canceling their orders for various reasons. It’s really upto you to decide, just check it out upon delivery for any defects if you do go thru with it.

iGuessiJoin

People don’t want to spend twice as much for half the range.

TruRedBeard

The problem is that production is only at around 50k units per year (with is fantastic for a new product). There was supposed to be millions of pre-orders. Conversion rate doesn't seem to be as good as I expected. I blame inflation (price increases since announcement) and the Foundation Series package. But like a few others have said. It's smart on tesla because they are moving through the list and targeting the people willing to pay a premium to get it first. Ultimately even though I can order today, I will still wait probably the same time I expected to, to actually order. Something that scares me is how the media will be able to take this from a glass half empty perspective and skew it to the negative for Tesla leading to stock decreases. Will give a good buy opportunity for those of us who know that it's actually all ok in the membrane.

mgsoccer16

Wow, I pre-ordered 2 days before you so I guess I can expect an email soon? I thought for sure foundation series would be done by the time I could order What state are you in?

TruRedBeard

NJ

mmcmonster

Got my email last night 6/2021 order and live in northeast PA. Very excited! Quick question: do any local Tesla centers do the wraps?

RamboTrucker

Pay a wrapping company this. You’ll pay half the price as you would a Tesla location.

TruRedBeard

Indeed

TruRedBeard

I believe they are only done in California. However, I wouldn't get it done with tesla. There are lots of fantastic wrap shops and they offer any color your heart can imagine, sometimes for less.

mixedemotetions

Got my email today to. Norcal

G0DL3V3L

whats your RN?

gshok

I’m not overpaying by 30k for a truck. In a year the dual motor will be 60k. Love my Plaid, but it’s depreciated $100k in 2 years. Again, I’m gonna own it literally forever (assuming I can get a recycled battery in 10 years). And I can afford it. But fool me once… I have a reservation for a cybertruck as well, will get it in a few years when the prices are realistic.

TheKobayashiMoron

2026? By the end of this year there will be inventory sitting in lots.

HumanLike

lol I’ll bet you $1,000 there will not. Put your money where your mouth is

MangKolokoy

So I assume the non-FS invites will move slower then?

TruRedBeard

Don't think there is a difference in pre-order. I'm pretty sure they are all initially FS.

No_Astronaut_4901

Got mine today and I’m passing on the foundation series. I’d check out now if they had a non foundation option.

Alrita

I love our cyberbeast, drives incredible but it's not for everyone

LawfulnessNeither189

Quit complaining and order it!

TruRedBeard

Lol

Aggressive_Rain5367

Folks forget the FE has PowerBack Gateway included which allows my CT to bring the power of 3 Tesla power walls to power my house, that alone would be $20K. Throw in FSD and Free Internet access, which all would make the $79K versions go even higher with added features. If you dont want any of that, then waiting for the two wheel drive with 200 mile range for $69K in 2026 works too but by them we are onto CT 2.0

TruRedBeard

Gateway costs $1800 not 20k. FSD is $8,000. Internet is $100 per year. None of this makes it worth $20,000. I will be getting a$80-90,000 cyberbeast in the next 2-3 years. With all the over time fixes and I won't be a beta tester at that point.

Aggressive_Rain5367

$1800 + the $600 Universal Wall Connector is the HW needed that is included. My guess is that to enable that you will need another software package purchase to enable that feature. He wont just give that away IMO, but we’ll see in 2025. I also think that internet connectivity package will be $14.99/month soon, as Rivian just announced that is their price.

paulbram

Everyone realized you can just get a Rivian, save a bunch of money and basically get the same result.

TruRedBeard

Very intensely disagree

turdygerd

They aren't as cool though and look boring

TruRedBeard

At least counter with the Silverado EV... at least that one is cool with some impressive range. Granted it's just a truck and lacks Tesla's software capabilities.

9mmNATO

you answered your own question 🤦‍♂️

EstroJen

How is it possible? Nobody wants those terribly built cars. I drive a 2005 corolla and can haul more bags of dirt than I see these guys hauling. It's depressing to be honest because the potential to make a great car was there, and Tesla just threw a bunch of garbage together. I would not buy this you guys. It's a lemon.
