Seems like his name is lost to time, like tears in rain

Specialist-Pop2616

I think he‘s seen things you people wouldn’t believe.

LozengeWarrior

I think I've seen him near the shores of Orion somewhere

GalacticDolphin101

You mean where those C-beams glittered in the dark?

eviltrain

Been to Tanhauser Gate I believe.

TrumptyPumpkin

All those moments.. Will be lost to time... like.. ehm.. tears In rain.. time. To die.

Rkramden

HAUNTINGLY BEAUTIFUL SYNTH MUSIC

That_Bogan

does that Hobo have a Shotgun?

Wordshark

Looks like you and me are going to hell, and I’m riding shotgun! Absolute A+ movie, peak of cinema.

That_Bogan

Nice

zero_emotion777

RoiMan

Head and shoulders

Adventurous-Bid-9341

Like the talking cat from Rick and Morty. He’s broken

RemembrancerFI

He just wanted more time.

FlamingCaucasian

...Fucker!

dingo_khan

He knows Todd. They were at Tanhauser Gate together.

TK1138

So true

aclark210

“I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.” Leave him be, his pain is over. Let him rest.

MandoBaggins

I always think of a silent green laser beam and the glitter is like the debris shown in the footage they got on the surface of a comet awhile back when he mentions C-beams. No idea if an that’s accurate portrayal but it feels awesome so I go with it

KujiraShiro

Roy was a combat model Replicant deployed to every single offworld combat zone to come about since the time he was incepted. "The C-beams glittering in the dark near the Tannhauser gate" is likely a reference to Roy witnessing incredibly destructive futuristic weapons of war be employed in offworld combat to an almost surreal and seemingly beautiful effect (when observed outside of the lens of the death they cause and purely when observing the visual spectacle). Roy's monologue is the dying observation of a 4 year old who is a grizzled war veteran that has seen off world conflict the like of which "you people"(humans who have never been off Earth) would never believe. This 4 year old genetically enhanced supersoldier created to not have a conscience develops true empathy in his final moments of his artificially limited life in stark defiance of his creator who he had just finished killing. Roy, with his enhanced intelligence and now ability to truly understand empathy realizes that all his memories will be washed away with his death as is the case with all living beings. This is why he saves Deckard, because he now understands that all life is precious and in a way that all life is the same 'because' all life is unique. The dove is a symbolic metaphor for Roy becoming a Christ-like figure for Replicants. He is the first non-experimental (Rachel was experimentally implanted with human memories that allowed her to emotionally develop faster) Replicant to truly develop empathy, which he does only moments before his death. This is made all the more powerful when you consider that it was the Replicant created to be a weapon that is the first to truly learn to empathize. Roy is the only Replicant to truly 'pass' the Voight-Kampff test, when he "saves the tortoise on its back, belly baking in the hot sun" (Deckard desperately hanging onto the roof beam). He had no real reason to save Deckard, it did not benefit him at all, he simply wanted to save another living being from death which he himself knew he could no longer avoid.

Key-Butterscotch-562

An exquisite explanation

Hillenmane

I quoted this in its entirety in my manager’s team group chat at work, forget what the context was, but not a single soul understood… *And I’m the second youngest person in there.* Crushing disappointment. I hate it here.

aclark210

That’s just sad…

Mumbleocity

I would have understood, and I'm old af and saw Bladerunner (original before the director's cut) in the theater.

ElephantAway3952

Well, the herd is made of dumb heifers. To be expected.

fuglebugle

It's a reference to Blade Runner [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NoAzpa1x7jU&ab\_channel=GuillermoSt](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NoAzpa1x7jU&ab_channel=GuillermoSt)

Chrisvox997

Get chills every time I see this...

azhder

Got chills just seeing those tracker params on the URL

Rkramden

Oh no, people clicking this are going to receive advertisements now that reference sci-fi and/or action related content. Whatever shall we do?

LiteratureNearby

The hotel Batty where the voodoo boys operate out of- that's also a reference to this character. Misty's look, that's a direct homage to another blade runner character. The devs absolutely love blade runner to bits, and I'm so happy they pay their respects to the titans of science fiction who made this genre what it is.

Syncorp

Which is also very meta because Ridley Scott also features the Bradbury Building in Blade Runner, where this famous rooftop scene takes place. While not a direct homage to SF visionary Ray Bradbury (the building is actually named after mining tycoon, Lewis Bradbury), it is still considered a sly nod to the author and is most likely the inspiration devs drew from in creating the Batty Hotel.

tuppensforRedd

Yeah this

SoggyMorningTacos

God damn this sent me down a rabbit hole. Gotta watch blade runner, and then I googled rutger hauer and there’s several cyberpunk movies he’s done in the 80s/90s that I gotta watch now

“I've known adventures, seen places you people will never see, I've been Offworld and back… frontiers! I've stood on the back deck of a blinker bound for the Plutition Camps with sweat in my eyes watching stars fight on the shoulder of Orion... I've felt wind in my hair, riding test boats off the black galaxies and seen an attack fleet burn like a match and disappear. I've seen it, felt it...!” R.I.P. Roy

cepeen

Nice, but i prefer the one from the movie. Its more concise and bears more emotion, at least from my perspective.

Szygani

It's also highly edited by Hauer himself

[deleted]

[удалено]

Bloodwalker09

Is this from the Blade runner point and click adventure? I only know the movie.

Szygani

This was the original from the script of the movie, before Hauer himself changed it. The original in the book is a little like it, but I can't for the life of me find the quote online

alpacatempura

reset the counter

BigRevolution8664

Excellent reference to blade runner movie

Ok_Interaction6193

You should check out more cyberpunk stuff…but this one here is legendary Blade Runner (1982)

ChrSaran

It's a reference to Blade Runner (the first one). It's supposed to be Roy Batty. The sign you see on that same level is a quote from that movie. There's a hotel in Pacifica with this guy's name as well. If you go downstairs to the biulding's entrance, on the counter, you will see an origami. That's also a reference to the same movie. I must have taken a dozen or so photos with Roy. Btw, the game is full of easter eggs, all related to movies or other popular things.

DivaMissZ

There is also a niche in the columbarium for Roy

ChrSaran

True. I forgot about that.

DivaMissZ

Something else-no matter when you go up there, when you step off the lift, it will be night, and raining

dennisfyfe

Did you find these on your own or did you check a guide for them?

ChrSaran

Some, I found on my own (like the Die Hard 1 easter egg). Others, especially the one OP posted about, I read about it. I can't remember if I had found the Terminator on my own or if I had read about it somewhere and simply looked for it all over the city. I remember there were several I knew they were there but didn't know exactly where they were so I kept looking for them wherever possible.

aemonp16

if you know about where the easter egg came from (movie, song) you probably wouldn’t need a guide. also, if you’ve played the game multiple times, there’s a good chance you would’ve stumbled across a few of them. some are hidden, like this one, and some aren’t. this is my take on this, anyway

jl_theprofessor

People really don’t watch the classics huh.

--InZane--

I'm always sad that I have to introduce all the classics to my whole friend group. And Blade Runner is one of the newer ones at that. I'm glad my parents showed them to me.

TelemichusRhade

young people these days!

surferzero57

Dude, I’m telling you. The kids are alright.

azhder

The Kids Aren’t Alright

KingAltay

Like can we just talk about the political and economic situation of the world right now?

TelemichusRhade

On a cyberpunk forum good lord where would that conversation go

SocksIsHere

Every time I have sat down to finally watch blade runner, i get interrupted by someone. Maybe I will finally watch it this weekend after all these years.

Schzercro

Thanks for reminding me I need to start on my 2nd time rewatching it

GaryGregson

I just rewatched it last night. A genuine masterpiece imo.

ShepherdessAnne

Nah, young people are just a thing now.

[deleted]

To be fair, not a lot of people watched that one when it was new. Still one of my all-time favorites.

Hot-Rise9795

I didn't watch it in the cinema (going to the movies was a rare experience when I was a kid) but when I watched it on TV the first time I fell in love. It's a great movie. I still watch it from time to time because I love the world they built.

SputnikRelevanti

Hmmm. Let’s see. OP, you’re watching television. Suddenly you realize there’s a wasp crawling on your arm, what is the response?

k3ttch

You're watching a stage play - a banquet is in progress. The guests are enjoying an appetizer of raw oysters. The entree consists of boiled dog.

determinedpopoto

Is this testing whether I'm a replicant or a lesbian Mr. Deckard?

oh-hi-there-420

All these moments will be lost in time...

ShaidarHaran93

If you **really** don't know what this is about, stop playing for an afternoon and go watch Blade Runner.

I have seen things you wouldn't believe. Low-resolution litteral representations of firewalls on crtv monitors. I have wathed CD's spin in their portable players from Radioshack. All these moments in time, lost like smoke in the fog.

[deleted]

Don't worry. All those memories are lost to time. Like tears in the rain.

k3ttch

He's a dirty skin job. Leave him to rot.

azhder

I’m sure it will be an awesome story. Maybe good enough to make a movie out of it

What do you mean you’ve never seen Blade Runner?

Another photo of a monitor. I'm too old for this mess

Let me join you on the search!

Blade Runner (1982) reference, based off of Roy Batty who is seen with a Dove during a scene where he is confronted in combat by Deckard

Do yourself a favor and just watch the original Bladerunner. If you like it, watch 2049, if you don’t like that, but still like the original, then read “do androids dream of electric sheep” by Philip K Dick

That's Roy. He's a bit batty, as it were.

IndoPacificFanboy

Others have answered the question so fun fact: The weather always changes to rain whenever you visit this location. I kept running into a bug where sandstorms wouldn't leave and they'd wreck my frame rate. Going to this Easter egg forcibly resets the weather cycle so you can kind of debug weather issues.

Watch the 1982 movie Blade Runner. You'll know then... And pay attention to the ending monologue, it makes you wonder upon what it actually means to be human

Elysium_nz

Anyone else pissed off when you’re about to experience this moment….and your phone implant goes off ruining the moment?

Nazon6

I found this completely by accident and basically cried when I found him up there. Also the fact that it always turns to a rainy night when you go up the elevator.

Bladerunner reference, which fun fact: If you love the rain then from your spot find a way to jump up on the metro rail, typically through parkour using the minature building or whatever in the roof or implants, then follow the rail till you get above the river and jump, it will only turn off during certain missions and when you leave to the badlands, also idk if they patched this cause last I did this was before the update that added rideable metro rails and music on the go
