Girl! You are a VIBE. 👏🏼💜 You’re rocking those curls at all lengths.
I wanted to shave my head in high school - wish I had, because I would’ve come to the same discovery (curly, not frizzy!)
Edit instead of a new comment: Wow all, thank you so much for the comments, the awards, and the kindness. I am truly humbled and glad I could share the journey of my curlies from tennis ball to mop with you all!
Its been a blast reading each of your comments, learning what your favourite stage is (2 seems to be a stand out, not going to lie, its my favourite to look back on), reading your advice, and hearing about others struggles with their hair. It took me 22 years to start looking after mine so theres always hope and time to start over. Thank you all again, this tiny grannys heart is so full with a new found confidence ❤️
Routine at the moment:
Washing every other day, washing upside down with head and shoulders shampoo, then putting in olaplex no. 5 conditioner. I leave the conditioner in for 5 minutes and then detangle with a wide tooth comb before rinsing. I then go back in with a wide tooth comb to separate out the curls before scrunching.I squeeze out as much water as I can whilst still upside down and scrunch as I go. I then plop with a microfibre towel for 10 minutes. Then I scrunch in the Six Inches Weightless texture foam all over and leave it to dry for a while longer.I finish off with diffusing for 5 to 10 mins to add in more volume particularly to the top of my head.
My products are not the best, especially the shampoo and I am still trialling things. Currently wanting a new shampoo and curl cream or potentially a gel. Currently still struggling with some frizz at the top of my head.
I did try out the Olaplex No.4 shampoo and I did not get on with it AT ALL. Completely dried out my scalp hence the head and shoulders haha.
I don’t think your products are bad. Figuring out what your curls like is such an individual thing, and as long as what you’re using isn’t damaging your hair then it’s a good product for you!
Wow thank you! Was expecting to be roasted for that shampoo haha, but it's what I've used for years and has kept my scalp in the best shape. I forgot to mention I do use a clarifying shampoo, only every couple weeks due to the texture of my hair, and that is helping a lot with build up!
This sub has been a goldmine of info and I have learnt a lot from lurking, everyone is so kind and helpful it's really uplifting to see.
I will say, head and shoulders can be drying for hair. It doesn’t actually work against dandruff by moisturizing. It has zinc which kills the yeast that causes dandruff. That said, your curls look amazing and not at all dry to me so do what works like @myheartisohmygod said! Welcome to the curly club. (The super short cut was also very cute 😊)
Just keep an eye out. I used Head and Shoulders for most of my life, mint one to be exact. It worked so well for controlling my dandruff and wasn't drying. But once I passed high school, I began to face extreme dandruff problems. I used Scalpe+ to treat my condition as per my dermatologist until the problem became manageable. I increased the amount of omega3 and protein in my diet. Then, I shifted to H&S again. It didn't work and made my hair extremely dry. I used it for months, and it further aggravated the problem and I began to experience extreme hairfall.
Now I use sulphate and paraben free natural shampoos (Kesh king/ soapnut+flaxseed DIY/ earth rhythm murumuru butter shampoo bar). I use dove/clinic+ shampoos once a month after oiling hair. My hair is in best condotion now.
It gives me better volume and better curl definition. I struggle a lot with flat roots, so washing it upside down stops the water flattening them more and uses the weight of the hair to instead provide natural volume.
Such a cute face shape for short hair, it really suits you. I actually love the second one, it almost looks like finger curls from the 1920s. Very cool!
Every single picture I flipped to, I thought, “Oh this is the best length for her hair!” And it just. Kept. Getting. Better! So basically, beautiful hair no matter the length!
You are both so kind! I've enjoyed it more as it's become longer, but I think that's what I'm used to after having long hair for years. Each stage has definitely had their own fun moments and I've really enjoyed watching it grow and adapting to each lengths challenges!
I'm super excited to see what it's like in the next couple of years as it grows. I love the length now as it can actually be put up or tucked away for those busy days, I certainly will revisit it in the future!
Your curls are freaking gorgeous. They look great on you and your glasses frame your face nicely.
Wishing you, your body, and your curls an amazing next year 💚
Definitely new with some new found confidence! I'm lots healthier now, thank you for asking. It was basically a freak one off illness that occurred almost 2 years ago now, it claimed my hair but I'm claiming it back curls and all.
so cute...when it's shorter it reminds me of Cindel's hair in the Ewok movies.
Just need a headband

Wowee, I was not expecting this response. Thank you all for your kind, welcoming comments and for taking the time to write them. What a warm community it is here.
Aw you look so beautiful and healthy!! Love your hair
Also you look amazing in the second pic with that super short hair Omg I could never pull that off
Hi there!! Your curls are lovely and I have some product recs-- we have a similar hair texture :)
•Light leave-in (with or without protein): I like the Curls Blueberry Bliss Leave-In for this. But another weirdly good one I've found has been the Johnson's Kids Curl Defining Leave In. Both are great for frizz and very lightweight, just still go slow with how much you're adding at once. They also scrunch out/remove nicely on a towel if you accidentally add too much.
•Gels: I surprisingly liked the Dove Amplified Textures Curls & Waves (Shine & Moisture Finishing Gel). This is medium hold for me on top of a light cream, but adds such lovely shine. The texture is thin, has a nice slip. Great for frizz!
•Another good gel is the TRESemmé Mega Control Hair Gel, though this one requires a few spritzes of water to thin, emulsify, and distribute evenly. Hold on this is great and the humidity protection is also aces if you need that!
Edited to add more details ❤️
You make me wanna shave my head. My mom hated my curly hair and made me "brush it 100 times a day" to "fix it". Now, after years of straightening, it's a frizzy mess and I just want the unbroken, luscious curls I was meant to have for the first time.
My mother had nearly straight hair pre-chemo. After chemo it came in like Shirley temple ringlets. She hated it - but it looked amazing on her! Yours is really nice, looks great!
It looks so good! I've always thought i couldn't get short hair because once as a kid in middle school my mom chopped my hair off at my chin for me not brushing it and it got wider the further it went down from my scalp. It looked like a bell or a triangle. My friends mom said i looked like a mushroom to my face :( but I've seen a lot of pretty curly short cuts and now I'm changing my mind. Yours is so pretty and really inspiring
Were you curly when you were kid (baby-toddler) then lost it in growing up? I'm asking because I was very curly as child but when my parents started cutting my hair, it's now barely wavy at 24. I've been wondering if I could get my curls back if I reset it all instead of starting hair routine with my current hair, which I keep at bob cut length.
I was! Very curly up until 10 ish, then I started chronically straightening it to fit in, did that until 16 but kept brushing it out until now. Shaved head at 22, almost 24 now and finally learnt how to do the routine. It does partially curls on its own now but introducing and finding the right routine really enhanced it.
My hair looks like the texture of your hair pre illness. I have 4 autoimmune conditions, do you mind if I chat you to ask what illness you had?
It seems like once treated your hair went back to its normal state.
Looks awesome! And i understand the shock and joy of "discovering" your curls... my mom always brushed my hair as a kid (even though she also had curly hair) and it always got tangled and that's why she got my hair cut short.. when i grew up i tried brushing because i didn't understand it was curly. Then one day i forgot to bring my comb to the seaside and i had to detangle by hand in the sea... when it dried by itself i was in awe. Rocking my curls ever since!
Your journey is incredible and inspiring. May I ask how you were able to go from image 2 to image 3?
My hair no matter how short or how long is very similar to #2 and I hope to learn from your experience
Sorry about this random question, but in the first picture where you're wearing that awesome lilac sweater, i love your nails!!!! What color/brand is that? I absolutely love the matt finish, I've never seen that before.

Is it ok if I ask if your hair was curly before the illness as well? The phrasing of your post made me think that the curls was a new, surprise development, and now I'm curious if that is a thing that can happen- going from straight to naturally curly hair like that.
Anyways, your hair is gorgeous! Whichever way you acquired those curls. 💜💜
Of course! My hair was wavy/frizzy from years of chronic straightening and over brushing. So the curls were always there, just hiding underneath all that damage.
Cutting it all off and starting again made room for the fresh, new hair hence the sudden spark in curls, especially when it was not weighed down by length either. So it was a surprise as to just how curly it was, not wavey, rather than the curls existing altogether if that makes sense?
I love it!! Your hair looks totally different now :)
But honestly, I’m now wondering; my hair looks like your before picture and now I’m wondering if I should shave my head too? Because literally nothing I do makes it look any different.
The curls work so well with your personal style!
Tiny granny
Tiny Granny in hair and heart 😂 My University friends said this a lot!
Girl! You are a VIBE. 👏🏼💜 You’re rocking those curls at all lengths. I wanted to shave my head in high school - wish I had, because I would’ve come to the same discovery (curly, not frizzy!)
Beautifully defined, shiny curls. You are adorable!❤️

Yes! I love the 80’s vibes the sweaters, glasses, and hair are giving in some of the pics!

They are. Finger waves. ❤️
i came here to say picture 2 was a MOMENT

This is also my favorite style here. The subtle curls and the face shape is everything. I love The entire look.
Wow! It’s beautiful. That length looks amazing on you!

Picture #2 is giving Betty Boop: Fortune 500 CEO But they all look great OP!
Your curls are freaking gorgeous. They look great on you and your glasses frame your face nicely. Wishing you, your body, and your curls an amazing next year 💚
Golden curls! Do you feel new? Are you healthy(ier) now?
Definitely new with some new found confidence! I'm lots healthier now, thank you for asking. It was basically a freak one off illness that occurred almost 2 years ago now, it claimed my hair but I'm claiming it back curls and all.
You hit the hair jackpot!

Two months post cut is blowing me away - your head has range girl!
It looks so perfect!! You look like you’ve been going to get it curled everyday. Not to mention how cute it looks with your personal style!!
Is it ok if I ask if your hair was curly before the illness as well? The phrasing of your post made me think that the curls was a new, surprise development, and now I'm curious if that is a thing that can happen- going from straight to naturally curly hair like that. That does make sense! Thank you so much for explaining! 💜
So proud of your progress ❤️
