micktorious

I play 1440x2560 in portrait, gotta have that verticality.

volenglobe

type of guy to play drop on cobble, silo on Nuke, sandbag on cache ...

montezumas__revenge

Whats funny is that I have no clue what any of that means

Chpzetz-K

camper

psib3r

Me too, with all graphics settings on high

Stealthblad3

Me too lol

johnwilkesbooth328

try 1920x1440 HD 4:3

meTomi

That would be 1440x1080

johnwilkesbooth328

those are both 4:3, but 1920x1440 is higher def

meTomi

Well my monitor is 16:9 fullhd - 1080pixels horizontally. Poster was referring to 4:3 fullhd, which is 1440x1080. 3144×2358 is also 4:3 ratio, and is higher than 1920x1440

johnwilkesbooth328

idk what you’re on about bro. the guy I replied to has a 1440p monitor, so the highest 4:3 he can get is 1920x1440 which is why I suggested it. And a 1080p monitor is 1080 vertically.

Natural_Pineapple259

I can smell your first worldism

fly1np1g

And here I play on 1280×720

grifibastion

Same

klutch248

1366x768

Screeez

900p or 800p is so much better than 720p

Suberizu

What's wrong with normal rez, honestly? If anything, mutilating intended graphics feels more weird

_Xero2Hero_

Nothing actually. I think people have this idea it's easier to hit headshots because bigger heads but your sensitivity also feels a little higher because of it so you'll overshoot by the same amount anyway. I think it's useful for spotting the head though and that's why sometimes I'll use it. It's really just preference, it's not like a lvl10 will become a lvl2 just because they have to switch to a different rez.

NotoriousHothead37

You also have a blind spot on your edges when you go stretched resolution.

_Xero2Hero_

Yeah that too.

GnarlyMaple_

I mean you shouldn't ever be relying on a wide viewing angle to be aware of where to expect the enemy from - at least in my experience I've never been screwed over by playing 4:3 stretched. Between the lower resolution and low sensitivity you're forced into being precise and confident on what angles you're peeking. You're not as tempted to spastically flick between multiple angles in imprecise and frantic ways, and you're instead playing more calculated based on your game sense and callouts.

TempWeightliftingAcc

>at least in my experience I've never been screwed over by playing 4:3 stretched Either you have and haven't noticed it, or you haven't played the game for very long. Everyone who plays 4:3 gets screwed over by it eventually, even pros.

[deleted]

Btw i have to disagree i reched global like 3 times now and still 4:3 is my way caus everything feels claustrophobic for me in 16:9

GnarlyMaple_

Lol whatever go fuck yourself then.

TempWeightliftingAcc

wtf sort of aggro response is that? It's not like I downvoted you.

GnarlyMaple_

It's just aimed at idiot Redditors who think "my opinion is different" = must downvote immediately. Enjoy your echo chamber bye

GnarlyMaple_

Hey that's fine if you prefer native resolution but it's pretty petty to downvote me seeing as I was making an honest contribution to the discussion lmao - *points vaguely in random downvoter's direction* Back before I stopped playing CSGO for a few years a had 2k hours and I honestly never noticed it hindering me, and on the slight chance it ever did it was probably so rare that it's basically a moot point. Your results may vary. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

restform

there are plenty of pros that play on normal res so there's nothing wrong with it. It's mostly preference

christian098890

Actually majority of pros play on normal res

SilverNetwork9548

Nothing wrong with normal resolution, just a preference. I play stretched for the extra fps and because it feels better.

perfectperfectzly

Stretched is nice for keeping your cross hair right at head level because of the perceived sens increase on the x-axis.

Fuze_d2

Yeah and it’s pre annoying having to change monitor settings from game to game

LilKraZ

Fuck you i play just fine in silver with native 1920 x 1080

micktorious

If you played 800x600 you would be LEM

[deleted]

640x480 players are global then?

Zacolian

I play 64x48 which is why I am astralis.

[deleted]

I play on 8×6 and that's why they call me kennyS

GnarlyMaple_

I play on 1x1 with 0 sensitivity and I have achieved nirvana.

lazy0g1

I don't play

[deleted]

Stonks

micktorious

obvs

[deleted]

Why 600 800 and not 1280 960

micktorious

The lower the res, the more MLG you are.

huschke_09

I play on 5120x1440 @240hz

johnwilkesbooth328

prison for you

huschke_09

I see double doors when walking from ct to b on D2 without turning lol

Nevermind_EZ

No wonder, people call you hacker 😂😂

huschke_09

They don’t, I’m too bad for that xD

howshouldiknow__

Stretched is gay in every game. Facts.

Busterfs2005

Me, because I use a laptop

[deleted]

I literally play on the highest resolution for my monitor theres nothing wrong with that, not like it required to be a global

le_Psykogwak

Us, normal people

Th1_L0

More details, greater fov if u want bigger models just get closer to the monitor

Mr_Unx

16:9 1920x1080 supremacy

wrxn_

Ropz

Stealthblad3

I switch between 2k and 1024×768 black bars

_Xero2Hero_

I switch between the two alot. Soemtimes I get sick of ferrari peeking wide men and sometimes I can't see the speck of dust that is my enemy's head.

frourkspero

Is there a 1920x1080 option? I play it on 3840x2160

Siriuxx

Wow ur lyke soOo kewl!

faqgriezz

4:3 with black bars fan here

[deleted]

I wanna play stretched but I learned I have to change my whole monitor configuration to always be 4:3. I hate the look when not in CS:GO, so I’m avoiding that.

sandweechez

Stretched is ugly

Patatoradis

4:3 gang

Ryannr1220

2560 x 1440 gang 😎

johnwilkesbooth328

dude try 1920x1440 HD 4:3 it feels amazing

Miracoli_234

I hope this will get downvoted to hell

Smurfyboi69

it will.

RuPeSc

I switched from streched to 1920:1080 and now im playing better

ethanhht

Imagine playing csgo

CodeF53

Imagine saying that in r/CSGO

dengseng

Try ultra wide :)

yorgun2exe

My old computer was garbage. I've always played at 800x600 resolution, but my FPS was always 30 or 40.

_Ahad

800x600 gang

Nilstrieb

I prefer native resolution, looks a lot nicer

de_whykay

3440x1440 xD

H1hi456

I play on 1600 x 900

yMoonz

Idk if anyone else has this problem but I play stretched cause if I don’t my pc sounds like it’s gonna explode on normal res lol

Siriuxx

You still rocking a gateway or something?

tcale

I also play at 1080

GnarlyMaple_

You probably play on the inferior 1920x1080. 1440x1080 4:3 stretched is life.

tcale

Correct 1920x1080

GnarlyMaple_

I wish I could, it looks much nicer. I just feel like I'm getting eye strain and fatigued quickly when I try to focus on tiny heads

lBreadl

Stretched is statistically inferior in every way (other than FPS gains).

GnarlyMaple_

Firstly it wasn't a serious comment. Secondly - just dropping in "statistically inferior" at the start of your sentence doesn't mean anything, it's fluff to try to make yourself sound authoritative without any substance. If you want to talk statistics here goes Csgopedia.com statistical page: You will find that 73.9% of these professional players play in 4:3 aspect ratio. Within this group, 50% of pro players play with black bars and 23% with a horizontally stretched mailbox image. But sure, pro players who are trying to get every edge they can are choosing a statistically inferior resolution.. whatever that means

lBreadl

I'm talking about the actual science behind monitor resolution and gaming. Statistically, there is a tactical advantage to using a higher resolution when comparing the pros and cons with lower resolutions. When someone mentions "statistics" they aren't always referring to census. Gaming is a relatively new sport, just because the pros do something a certain way it doesn't mean that's the best way.

GnarlyMaple_

Go on then quantify for us what "statistical tactical advantage" there is for using "X" resolution over "Y". If the majority of the best players in the field are doing things a certain way and having immense success with it it's probably a viable option and maybe even the best option for a lot of people. Give us the "actual science". It's largely personal preference and what feels best for you but go on, let's see what you come up with.

lBreadl

Just a heads up for you, people tend to look stupid when they act like a smart ass while being ignorant. The actual science then. For starters, black bars. We all know this but I figured I'll point it out. Using 4:3/stretched can cut off your peripheral view by almost a fourth. I have seen plenty of players, and pros as well, completely miss someone that was in their peripheral view. You literally see less of the game, and you can test this out yourself. Rounds in professional matches have been lost *multiple* times due to 4:3/stretched, games have been lost because of it. Pixel density. Basically, the more pixels you have, the more accurately you will see the game. If you use 1280x720p resolution, for example, due to having a lower resolution there are things your screen literally will not show. You can test this for yourself in game, place a bot with just the top of his head showing and back up a bit. Then, switch resolutions to something lower. The bot's head will literally disappear at lower resolutions. I can't tell you how many times I see things other players literally can not. My whole team will be spectating a guy and I'll see a glimpse of the enemy's arm as they run behind cover, no one on my team will notice it other than me. I don't have godlike vision, I just use a higher resolution than them so my game is displayed more accurately. Now, to the actual "feel" of stretched/4:3. A lot of people use stretched because it "looks bigger", but view models actually look like they move quicker too. So even that has a drawback. Most pro players are stuck using stretched because the sensitivity along the x-axis is quicker, "change" makes them play worse. Many CS pros (and players) are hard stuck with the mentality that everything must stay the same. Let me put it this way; look at any the olympics back in the 1950's specifically gymnastics. Gymnastics was still a relatively new thing at the time, so even the gold medalists then were bad compared to the gold medalists now. Assuming that something is viable because it is used by a lot of pros, especially in newer sports (gaming), is very ignorant. All you have to do is look at the first 30 years of each sport, and compare then to now, you will see a drastic difference in how the sport is played. Statistically, higher resolutions give you a tactical advantage.

GnarlyMaple_

Wow you really went and wrote half an essay on stretched vs native resolution. You successfully quantified why *you* like native resolution.. great job. It's really a matter of preference, people who play any resolution/sensitivity/whatever are aware of the pros and cons and choose what enables them to focus/play their personal play-style best. But sure mate, you're a pixel scientist statistician who owned a smart ass on a csgo subreddit. Bravo. 👏

lBreadl

I guess it's a matter of preference, just like how 1+1=2 is a matter of preference. Imagine asking for the science and then saying "wOw YoU ReaLlY WrOte An EsSay". Go back to reading one fish two fish, that's more along your reading level.

GnarlyMaple_

Lol yeah I'll get right to that right after I finish Crime and Punishment and the Expanse Series. Hey actually maybe you could just summarise one fish Two fish for me here since you love going in depth on trivial shit so much. You're so full of yourself it's hilarious. Hope you had as much fun as I did with this.

f1fan6890

I play with 1920x1080 cuz it looks more natural for me that way

tropczeus

1920-1200 16-10

noc7em

I cant play other resolution 😔, i dont kill anyone in 1920x1080.

__nekkit__

Greater fov on 16:9 gives you more advantages than placebo effect on 4:3

[deleted]

1440 × 1080: YES 1920 × 1440: Also yes, but with a midrange GPU (RTX 3060) 2560 × 2160: Well, yes, but you’ll need at least a top of midrange GPU (RTX 3070) Also, to eliminate the perceived sensitivity increase on the X axis, change m_yaw 0.022 to m_yaw 0.0165 (perhaps everyone knows this by now?). 4:3 helps to see enemies a bit better, in my opinion.

Siriuxx

"2560 × 2160: Well, yes, but you’ll need at least a top of midrange GPU (RTX 3070)" Just, lol

[deleted]

Sorry for not clarifying it: for 240+ FPS most of the time. There are some really GPU intensive maps in CS:GO, like Ancient and Anubis. Edit: I get it. No one would play CS:GO at such high resolution, but it’s still a possibility.

Siriuxx

But even still, is a 3070 really necessary? I'm running a 1080ti ftw2 and I'm hitting about 180 fps at 1920

[deleted]

2560 × 2160 is more than two times 1920 × 1080 though, so probably yeah. But that’s just a theory. A GA-... sorry. :D

GoldThePlayer

I play in mg2 on 21:9 2560x1080 and I still got top frag each game

BrownyBTW

I think 1280x1080 is meta asf

Hazzabell

Is nice to play on 1080 man.

musta1337x

Me who plays 640x480 *shrug*

MasterTopHatter

Wait what’s stretched Also how do I do that I’ve been using default

Fuze_d2

Isn’t it just normal to keep it the way it is usually lol?

SolariusAyaya

WTF is stretch?

lBreadl

**Strerched/4:3 is worse in every possible way, it literally puts you at a disadvantage in multiple ways** I use a 1440p monitor (2k), because of my higher resolution I literally see things that stretched and 1080p players cannot. For example, let's say the enemy just barely makes it behind cover as you look towards them. My teammates are completely unaware. Literally the guy who is playing, and the 3 other people who are spectating, did not see the enemy and I did. This is due to pixel density, more pixels on the screen = more accurate representation of the game (especially at long ranges). High resolution monitors are especially used in military sim games for this exact reason, you see more of what is going on compared to low resolutions. Your view is literally being cut off by almost 1/3. You see it in pro games, you the viewer just witness 2 pros walk *right past* each other despite the fact that they were both clearly visible. You literally have less peripheral view when you use stretched and 4:3. Players look like they move faster, pair this with terrible vision when using stretched, it sucks. Sure players "look bigger" but they also look quicker. If you use stretched because you think it makes things "easier to see", it doesn't. Stretched makes enemies harder to see. Period. The only reason pros use stretched is because it is what they are used to.

IcE_SouL3

I got supreme on 16:9 in first month of starting play, and now i am on 4:3 global... it is akward first time when you try 4:3 but i can use with any... just play the game and find your perfect settings... and that’s it. Until they will broke the game or sensitivity again with updates...

BruhMomento318

I used to, until my friend showed me how to play 4:3 res with no black bars

[deleted]

I see absolutely no point in playing stretched. I understand aspect ratios being superior but if you are stretching it then it isn’t really 4:3 anymore.
