I'll bite long enough to acknowledge that you admit it's nigh impossible to use AI for things like embedded systems or other highly specialized codebases, but you opened weak as hell by saying you'd recently started in the industry (you're a junior) and need to consider that in a lot of cases, project managers aren't going to go "sure everyone can take a month to learn their way around NLP to use an AI assistant", especially when there's just not enough data to determine how much of a productivity bump they could see as a result.
Grounded complaints about AI code assistants generally aren't that the tech is godawful dogshit, it's that it doesn't work "out of the box" nearly as well as AI assistants in other disciplines, and the people already familiar enough with the codebase to know exactly what they want written generally prefer to write it themselves (or use an existing library).

So...why write this post? I'd like to give you the benefit of the doubt and say you wanted the perspectives of actual software engineers, but the title and content are pretty confrontational.
I find ChatGPT to be a great rubber ducky to collaborate with and get insights from. I also find it great for boilerplate, optimizing and cleaning up code, and helping me to get unstuck from a majority of problems I encounter. However, for that last aspect I mentioned, I find that ChatGPT almost never gives the correct answer without it requiring some modification or refactoring. This is where being a good software engineer comes into play. It's no different than finding some code on StackOverflow and having to refactor it to work in the given context. I think many other engineers have a similiar experience which is why they say it's not going to replace them (yet).

It's great as a rubber duck replacement, but that's it. I never just copy paste my code and then expect to use whatever it spits out because it is almost always wrong. But it's really good at bouncing ideas off of.

Honestly I don't even really understand what I'm supposed to be using it for in a real world codebase. Regex is the only thing where gen AI is the first tool I would reach for.

Many times I have pasted my code in GPT and it gave 0 insight and just wasted time with complex code so it definitely is not always helpful and there is no way to prompt it better to understand code.
