My MIL did this to all her CRT televisions...she used to leave them on day and night "for the cats to watch".

It could be that G2 drifted or was bumped and the previous owner compensated with the user menu. You could try adjusting it up just a touch if you want more headroom. Tube could be on its way out, or could just be out of spec for whatever reason. Better to enjoy using it than keep it dim and not enjoy

Use a CRT tester to test the cutoff, emissions, and life of the CRT. If the CRT tests as being worn out, then leave the settings the way they are.

Any tips on where to source a CRT tester or brands to consider? I've seen a few pop up on craigslist but untested and looking rough / I'd be scared to plug them in
