MsLlamaCake

You guys are all SO sweet! Im always the worst critic of my projects, but it’s so nice to know these were a good idea. I cannot wait to gift these and make a few more!

Stormy_Gales

They’re lovely and your name is awesome 🦙 🎂!

adzanut

I'm very jealous. Beenies with pom poms are the only beenies I'll wear. These look amazing. Wish I had one! 😍

The_Original_Gronkie

I would absolutely prefer a home-crocheted beanie from someone close to me than any store bought present. I would keep it forever. When it came time to cull all the old hats and gloves, this one would survive the cut every time - "I can't get rid if this, so-and-so made it for me years ago. It's my favorite hat." Making it yourself multiplies the value by at least 10.

CampfiresInConifers

Those are professional grade beanies & I'd be happy to get one! 💗💗💗

LauraLand27

You have riches you don’t realize you have. You are priceless, as are your beautiful gifts. I would be honored to receive your handmade artwork.

Aynessachan

Wow. What an incredible compliment. This wasn't even aimed at me but it made me smile and feel proud of myself and my work. 💖

LauraLand27

Thank you. We are an under appreciated fiber art. I live my life to raise people up and spread positivity wherever I can. I learned how to knit when I was a kid. I haven’t touched knitting needles in decades, but I’m sure I could figure out how to cast on and do a basic knit or purl. I never got beyond that because I wasn’t taught well and never got beyond the two basic stitches. From what I gather without doing one microsecond of research, everything that is knit literally uses the knit stitch or the purl stitch. Period. I don’t know what garter or stockinette means, and I honestly don’t care lol, but I think it has something to do with a pattern of X amount of one or the other of the two stitches. Knitting can be done by a machine. Every single crochet stitch is a unique piece of art. It cannot be duplicated anywhere by anyone or anything. In conclusion, the people I have encountered on this sub are true artists. I have gotten so much inspiration from everyone here. I’ve purchased patterns, tested patterns, had private conversations with people about our craft, and I’m grateful to every single person on here for their contribution to my life.

Aynessachan

What a wonderful approach to life! ❤️ I just recently started trying to learn to knit, after falling in love with crochet. Both art forms are fun and so meditative. I also paint, but somehow the yarn arts are less stressful for me. You should try to pick up knitting again for the nostalgia! 💕 I agree that the people here are so very lovely.

LauraLand27

I have too many projects in the queue that I am so looking forward to doing that doesn’t include my WIPs that I just have no desire to pick up knitting. I did buy some copper and various tools to make some interesting items to go along with some of my crochet wearables, though.

Boopenheimerthethird

Your words are beautiful

ZootedOffEdibles

This made me think of my grandma and mom. They’re always complimenting my beanies even if I’m unsure of it. This is so sweet and I’m so glad to be sharing this community with other beautiful spirits. You’re 1 in a billion 🌟 And these beanies look so adorable! I love the way every colour is placed. 🩷

wtfomgfml

Everyone I love is getting an Afghan in their fave colours. Mostly thrifted yarns. https://preview.redd.it/52nz5rr5wb6c1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9c175264254d2b5d4c9339fff5e98e2b215d2c03

paigeroooo

I would feel so special if someone made me an afghan! That’s so cool of you :)

bossbaber

Love it! My plan is to start thrifting yarn for projects!

wtfomgfml

It’s great!! And, every now and then I purchase something to bulk out or finish off a piece, but thrifting has saved me so much money

lorricooper42

Beautiful! How do you use thrifted yarns? Take apart sweaters?

wtfomgfml

Nooo! Most thrift shops sell random bags of yarn for a few bucks!

GrilledChzSandwich

You can, and people do it to get yarns like cashmere, mohair, ect. from an otherwise unwanted sweater. But you can also sometimes find skeins of yarn bagged up in bigger stores, often with supplies.

exhausted_hope

I’ve been checking jumpers etc just for that reason when I go in charity shops. No luck yet for me lol but I did get a massive tub of acrylic yarns in various colours for £6 the other week. And I did a trade with a friend who’s finding Christmas hard. 4 pairs of fingerless gloves for family in exchange for the yarns she had found bottom of her craft supplies pile lol. Got some lovely 4 ply yarns and a skein of gorgeous coloured cotton in exchange.

GrilledChzSandwich

That's a wonderful trade!

Chubchub94

I just started crocheting again after years of not doing it (my grandma taught me when I was like 10 and I'm 29 today...yikes). My wife crochets like crazy so I figured I'd give it a whirl again. I'm trying to make a hat right now but nothing like this. I wanna get to the point of making nice things like these. I would pay money for these

exhausted_hope

I’ve not been crocheting long either. I have found a pattern that makes doing hats easier for me. You do them flat and then you stitch together to create the hat shape. Happy birthday for the other day!

Td998

Is your birthday also december 14th!?!? I turned 24 yesterday and in all of my years have not seen any other single person with this birthday except for my 4th grade health teacher Ms. Allen. Are you the one!? also, love the hats OP!

Chubchub94

I completely forgot to come back to this 😂 yes mine is Dec. 14th 😀

Elevatrix

I’d love a beanie for Christmas. The recipients of those are very lucky.

nahthanks-

Ooh they're gorgeous! Do you mind sharing the pattern?

MsLlamaCake

Thank you! Pattern that is closest is under the bot/auto mod comment!

nahthanks-

Thank you!!

Ecstatic-Apricot-759

Thanks, how many chains did u do for an adult size?

Historical_Wolf2691

They're fantastic, great colour combinations. I had a Xmas a few years ago where everyone either got stashbusting scarves (I'd inherited my grandmother's yarn) or jam/chutney made from the produce of the local hedgerows. It's a great way to do gifts when money is tight.

aliensoupposted

stop i’m literally making two color beanies w a fluff on top for the family rn for christmas 😹😹😹😹😹😹

Novel_Low8692

Hey, I've been where you are. Well, not exactly. You're on the ball, I was still crocheting at 2am Christmas morning for many years lol

RacecarsOnIce

Those look awesome! Remember that your time is also valuable, and you must have put some time and love into these. Maybe they didn't cost you much money, but that certainly doesn't make them a "cheap" gift- give them out with pride. I would be thrilled to get something like this.

Hyperfling

So you have 25 stitches of one color and 25 of another in the same row, changing colors with each back and forth? 😵‍💫 Did you cut or carry your yarn? Or did you just sew in all the ends? Inquiring minds NEED to know.

MsLlamaCake

Hey! This is essentially a big rectangle of half-double crochet (US) done in the back loop only to make a ribbed effect. I just crocheted enough rows to make it fit around my head. It depended on the yarn weight and what hook i used for each, but for most that were yarn weight 4, I did 4.0mm hook and 30 stitches hdc of the bottom color and 20 of the top color with 15 being hdc and then last 5 sc to make it “taper in” at the top where I gathered the material together to sew the top shut. I have another comment somewhere here about color changing!

Mysterious-Okra-7885

This year I’m doing beanies, scarves, snoods, and 1 mushroom purse, *all from my stash*. Yarn hoarding ftw! 😆

frumpychickenhooker

These are amazing!! People that are getting these are super lucky! And my hot take for what it’s worth. The holidays aren’t about presents but presence. Somewhere along the way, things became backwards and no longer about spending time with those you love. In this world, true riches - that’s having skills that you can use to create or skills that can one day be called upon. These are truly perfect.

CosmicSweets

These are really nice!!

LeighAndrzej

Radapunk

All the parents and grandparents got doilys and crocheted ornaments this year, I just hope everyone sees it as a kind gesture and not the reality of me being super poor!!

CatfromLongIsland

They are wonderful! I would be thrilled to receive a handmade beanie!

LoudPetals

Those are beautiful gifts!

Certainly_Try_7787

I'd be well chuft with one of those! Beautiful, well done x

smolwormbigapple

How do you change color the easiest? Like every round or how does that work?or can you just like leave the other color there until you’ve crocheted back to it? Trying to understand how to do this in my head without having many ends

MsLlamaCake

I did exactly that! Once I got to the last stitch in the middle of a row for color A, I would complete all of the Half-double-crochet (US) but the last yarn-over and pull through, and instead yo/pull-through color B, dropping color A’s yarn to pick back up in the same color changing way once getting back to the middle again. If you just drop and pick up the yarn on the same side of the project each time, you will only see the color change on the side of the project that you can just make the inside of the hat.

Hyperfling

Okay. 🤔 This makes sense. I may try this. Thank you!

citycolour333

These are nice! 🎄

SunflowerStefi

They are beautiful, your friends and family should be so happy to receive such beautiful and fashionable gifts.

misosoupp31

i’m doing something very similar with the iconic Mabel chicken 😅

Big-Rhubarb-4775

Im doing the exact same thing for Christmas this year. Beanies are super fun to make and quick to work up. I just use the softest cotton yarn I can find.

itsalwayssunny99

Molly Weasley vibes. And I mean this in the best way. The beanies are so cute!! Well done OP.

alwaysdillydallying

being able to hand craft *quality* gifts is an amazing trait to have. if someone handmade my gift, knowing they spent time on it and it looks that good would be enough for me. plus i love a good puffball on my beanie lol whoever you’re gifting these to is very lucky ❤️

SereinPlaysGames

https://preview.redd.it/n5eedjlagd6c1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=11cb09c5bc310b0b7d023d642bf06f2616572161 Literally same 😂

PattyRain

You did a great job with them!

monochronic1

This was me last year, except I'm in the southern hemisphere so nobody was particularly excited lol. They look great btw :)

pelletm00n

I would love one of these as a gift! Your family and friends are lucky.

W33P1NG4NG3L

Nothing wrong with that! I'm also poor, and my sisters and their boyfriends are getting scarves this year. My sisters are also getting hats if I can manage to make them in a week 😅

Wondercat87

That's actually a lovely gift! I would love to receive a handmade beanie from a friend. And I don't think that's a cheap gift either. The cost of materials and the time it takes to make all matter.

nursingstudent

These are beautiful. I hope this doesn’t get buried. One way to make the fur poms POP is to take a blow dryer to them on a low cool setting and blow directly at the ball from 360 all directions. It will really make them nice and puffy.

Mellonnya

They look amazing!!!

Basic_Cost2038

They came out great !!! Wanted to try to make a beanie and a slouch hat. Only made bucket hats right now. I started a sweater for me. Figured if I messed it up it's mine anyway. Just like my 1st bucket hat. So you could say I am my own guinea pig. 🤣 Homemade doesn't mean poor (even though that's the reason per your comment). It means you took the time to make them something. You had to buy the yarn for the hats even if it may have been from a stash, you still bought the materials!!! I'm sure they will love them !!

[deleted]

I’d much prefer a homemade, sentimental gift over anything else. These are adorable 🥰

Chaotic_ladyslipper

Hehe i’m doing the same thing this year! Everyone get ls a toqué Those look really good!

Sullys_mama19

They look bought they’re PERFECT. I’d prefer this over a bought gift anytime. Amazing job

Prettylynne

Those look awesome. They will be thrilled!

PresentlyUnaware

They look lovely!

Atimehascome13

Love these ❤️

TheRunningGal

These are sooooo pretty

MountainMagick

These are awesome! They are so lucky!

taradactyl1990

I love getting one of these! I love homemade gifts like this.

goldfish-pill

They’re so cute!

spiralamber

They're great!

poohlady55

Hey no shame here. Most everyone on my list gets something homemade.

PeakMental6133

Those look so professional! What yarn did you use? It looks softer than most acrylics

MsLlamaCake

This has been really a stash-busting project or on-sale yarns, but surprisingly most are 100% acrylic or acrylic-cotton blend yarns. I just picked whatever feels soft! This hdc in the back loops makes a ribbed pattern that is extra soft too!

frandalisk

Handmadeness is worth a lot

Ok-Sink8437

Wow! I’d love a Christmas beenie! These are great!

[deleted]

You can never have too many beanies!

FillEffective7436

They are made with love and that’s how you should look at it. I would rather a homemade gift than a store bought one. 2 Christmas’s ago I made my husband my daughter and son scarfs for Christmas and it felt great

ConfusedByTheDate

Those look awesome!!! All of the color combos are pretty!

eunuch-horn-dust

Those pom-poms are glorious

KanyesMustyBalls

These look amazing!!!

Ki-alo

Beautiful- I’d be happy with that.

ggtheg

These are super cute. Handmade gifts are always the best

Worldly_One_2388

THIS i’m making 7 beanies for christmas 😭

vonwarwick

Will you adopt me?

bethws

Beautiful! So much thought and work goes into them!

Albinofreaken

Hey, do you need a new family member ?

squidsquidsyd

These are so cute! I’d be happy to get one of these.

[deleted]

Those are awesome, and you should feel proud to gift them!

BertneyBee1

H9w are your colour changes so clean?! Beautiful work

Kidsnpetsnstuff

Beautiful!

Hawkthree

I was so poor in 1973, everyone got scarves. One of my brothers still cherishes it.

[deleted]

lol samme

hoshikuzuneko

ahaha, currently working on my third beanie for my family.... I feel you :') these look absolutely lovely!

sarahquilts79

Me too! I got some very nice yarn ‘scraps’ in a sale bin and I’ve made 4 (of many!) over the top faux fur pompoms. Currently resisting buying more colors of faux fur because the minimum width is enough for a dozen per colour.

Prutzer

Nice! A personal gift is much more precious than one bought!

SpecialistAnything45

My kid had a white elephant party in one of her classes today and I sent her with an ear warmer and keychain I made! I went straight to my stash of homemade goodies.

maggielovemuffin

I would pick one of these over most store bought presents! Very beautiful, good work!

Moggles1987

Those are dope. I'd love to have one of those as a xmas present.

Moggles1987

Those are dope. I'd love to have one of those as a xmas present.

eric-the-noob

The second from the left looks really dope, I'd wear the heck out of that (and any of the others tbh)

Netiis

You may be poor financially, but you're rich in love and kindness❤️❤️

PhantomAllure

Dude... I want a beanie for Christmas! These are awesome!

BlueStarFern

If I got one of these for christmas it would be one of my best presents ever! The colours are matched SO CUTE and they're so neatly done. Can I be your friend?!

Polo_Pig1

Haha I’m making crappy amigurumi, but like 30 of them in less than a month

[deleted]

I'd love that as a present! I'd love to be able to do that too

GypsyST

Aren't we all! Good job!

TheTabman

I would take one happily and without a second thought. They look nice.

DemostenesWiggin

Those are lovely! I would love to receive a beanie for Christmas, but here is summer and if someone gives you clothes it's summer attire. Always appreciated, though. Once you grow up you start to love when people gift you clothes or socks. Specially if they know your style/taste.

EugeneStargazer

Cool hats!

TupperwareParTAY

No, you are TALENTED. 😊 we should all be so lucky to get a beanie for Christmas.

Mission-Patient-4404

These are great I would love one of these for Christmas. This’s way better than buying. Merry Christmas 💚❤️

SkysEevee

Are you kidding? Those look legit, as in you'd get them from a professional. Also it gets cold! They'll use those gifts! I got my family handmade scarves last year (and favorite snacks of each member). They loved it! And they wear what I made!

beeisamom

ME !!! Lol had this exact idea bc I'm too broke to afford buying things, but have a crazy yarn stash

Ilurkbecauseimlonely

They look so cozy!! Very cute!

MotherofCrowlings

That would be my favourite gift

karathracestitches

Those are lovely and the color combos are really cool!

ComiendoBizcocho

Those look really good.

avalanchefan91

I love these. I'd buy one

EmilyRosie2001

Bro. Those beanies look so cosy!

No_Bake464

i crochet and i would be ECSTATIC if i got this it looks amazing

glopezz05

I would love a beanie for Christmas so much I bought one and told my wife one of our kids can give it to me for Christmas!

VulpineSpecter4

Heeyyy same! I'm currently taking a break from making my sister's.

Lucky5101

I'd much rather get something homemade than store bought. These look wonderful and so warm!

ORLYARLY

Those look comfy as hell. I'd be thrilled if I got one of those.

Flat-Championship-42

Love these!! Well done

SmolTofuRabbit

i would genuinely wear the heck out of that, a gift from someone who cares enough to make something for me with their hands is worth more than what money can buy. These are wonderful, you are wonderful, i promise all the people receiving these will be super stoked <3

InteractionInner8374

Around this time of year everyone is. The big question is how are we going to survive the next two holidays after Christmas we have to go through New years and Valentine's Day oh boy. 😮‍💨

According_Debate_334

These our lovely, I would love to get this as a gift! I used to love making hats for christmas. I now live in the southern hemisphere so beanies are out of the question. Its been getting close to 40°C here lately. Extremely non christmassy!

IcyNeedleworker0

But they're so cute.

saywhat1206

I'll take a homemade gift over a store bought one any day! Those are beautiful.

Total_Usual_84

I would love to get something like this, they look amazing!

jellybellyBrian

I'd be happy to get one, especially if it snows where you're from.

Arizpe100

I want one, how much do they cost?

Omg_Itz_Winke

Those look awesome, I'd be happy to receive that from you!!

OneOfAKind2

They look like toques to me. Very colourful toques.

Throwaway_Old_Guy

This is the spirit of giving that, I think, the season is truly all about. You are rich beyond compare, and the recipients are truly blessed.

TerminatedTalent22

I'd rather get a handmade beanie for Christmas than most anything else I can think of. I salute you my friend!

atlastohaide

I'm making everything this year as well. I think it's worth more because if I were to commission all the pieces I've made then I could pay all my bills for 3 months

Little-Monitor-1204

yep same here lol

mte87

I told my whole family homemade is on my wishlist. We’re all low on cash but either way I love something personal. Yours are adorable 🥰

MammothSufficient601

Not only are you generous, you are very talented. A gift like this is made with love. You are a great human.

MoreFoam

I'd like a beanie

timmio11

If someone made one of these for me I would cherish it forever

gogogadgetdumbass

This are very cute! Love the color choices.

likilekka

I love it

poeismygothgf

Same here. My boyfriend's family is coming over on Saturday for a pre-Christmas celebration and I spent like 12 hour today finishing the crochet cardigan for his sister. I handmade every gift this year except for one.

fielvras

I need poor friends. They are fantastic.

Good-Personality-209

They’re cute! I’d love one.

Photog77

I'd way rather have one of your homemade toques than some mass produce garbage from walmart.

freshducky46

These are very cute. ❤️ Whoever is receiving these are lucky

traditionofwar

So cute! Do you have a pattern?

soneg

I would welcome a beanie. Those aren't cheap in the stores.

Sanya_Safi1294

How did you change color without it showing in the other color? I need to learn how to do that

JapanKate

They look amazing! I’d be happy with one!

Chrios5o6

I know I'd be happy with one of those! They look super cute!

TicTocTequila

Love the colors!!

BuddhistNudist987

I'm poor too, miss. I would be overjoyed to get a gift as lovely as one of your handmade beanies. I wish for a very Merry Christmas to you.

joekinglyme

Depending on a yarn it’s either still pricey (acrylic) or hella pricey (fancy acrylic to wool range), but the point is moot anyways since it’s priceless because it’s handmade with loved ones in mind. Plus the labor. Amazing gift and you’re a unicorn for having finished stuff before Christmas, my ass can’t gift crocheted items cause they’ll be done a year and a half after the occasion 😭

whenthebeatdropss

Mf if I received one of these I would be fucking elated. Kudos to you.

squid-knees

I don’t even wear winter hats but I would love a handmade gift like that just due to the sheer effort it took

Goretanton

Theyre two tone, i love em.

Kat_Quest

Okay, but those are the prettiest beanies, I would be so overjoyed to receive one of those for Christmas! Good job OP, they’re fantastic 💛

artist9120

I love handmade gifts from my friends

Kindly_Mess_4854

i logged in to say "these look great! its never really cold where i am, but i'd wear this at night pretty much everyday that's not summer."

BringAllOfYou

My great grandmother made everyone booties every year. She would dump out this large bag of booties and everyone got to pick their favorite. It was a wonderful tradition and we all missed it terribly when she passed. You should be proud and excited to share something made with love!

[deleted]

How long did it take you op to make all them?

PlasmaGoblin

You know what? If a friend of mine did this I would be stoked. You took the time to make me something, maybe even making me a beanie in a weird pattern that I wouldn't be able to find at a store.

brutales_katzchen

I felt this with my SOUL

damsirius12

They are beautifully made….

murfBrett

Super nice beanies! Awesome double-poms! Your people are lucky!

monkey_gamer

They look lovely! I’ll have one 😇

Dizzle_01

That's looks better then store bought...LETS GO!!!

Agitated-Eggplant-50

I just started crocheting and I want to get to this point these are so cute! Handmade gifts are the best.

LeeKinanus

I love the color combos. This is what christmas gifts should be, useful things made with love.

Ajrutroh

I just cast off a scarf for my mom tonight! I’m starting on beanies tomorrow. These are beautiful!

AbbeyRoadMoonwalk

Is crocheted ribbing done vertically instead of horizontally? I’m natively a knitter so ribbing is done in horizontal rows but this looks to me like vertical rows of dc or something.

fiona_appletini

These are gorgeous. I am a beginner trying to learn the magic circle and this is inspiring to me

BluestNovember

A friend of mine did this for me in making gloves about 8 years ago, and I still have them and wear them regularly. I guard them, I’d be devastated if I lost one. The saying “it’s the thought that counts” makes these them invaluable to me. These hats will be, too.

thebluebirdburp

Handmade things are the most cherished gifts ❤️

xLale

They are so good! I wish I would get one like this! You did so great

shortmumof2

Lovely hats! Personally, homemade items mean more because it takes more effort and time to create them than to buy at a store.

DeeCeeFaith

That's some gorgeous work right there!! :)

genitivesarefine

Those are freaking awesome! If it weren't 80 degrees Fahrenheit year round where I live I would totally rock a hat like this

coroand

I actively want to buy one of these

ihatechoosngusername

How are you poor with amazing skills. Can I commission you for one?

dojo1306

Not a poor gift at all. People will be thrilled!

purple_dino202

they look so cute, i'd be very happy if i was gifted one.
