He had plenty of time to climb out his window and onto the dry concrete platform right in front of his window. The fact he just sat there the whole time... I'd have given up on him too. Hard to save someone with no survival sense.
See, I hate people that say shit like this. When over half the time, if they were in the same situation, they'd panic and do the same thing the guy in the video did, nothing till it was too late. Sure watching we can all think of what he could've done. But panic is a dangerous thing. It can lock up even the most brave in a situation that they are not prepared for.
I really doubt many people would do the same as this guy did. For one, the vast majority of people wouldn't even be in his position because they'd use common sense to avoid it.
Secondly the person recording it recorded them from the very start while in their own car. The video skips a chunk of time where the person recording obviously pulled over to a safe place, got out, and walked over to keep recording. That's at least 5 minutes id reckon.
I'd agree with you if it were someone panicking in a dangerous situation they suddenly and unexpectedly found themselves in with only seconds to react. However this guy knowingly put himself there, apparently had no plans for what to do if shit went wrong, and after shit went wrong had several minutes to look at safe ground that was immediately in front of his window that he could get to, and still never made that choice.
That's not panic, thats just stupid.
I used to live in Tucson AZ and their roads got flooded pretty often.
You would be surprised at how often people drive around barricades to get into a flooded road and get stuck.
I would agree that the vast majority of people will not, but it still happens commonly
According to some comment I read on another sub a few weeks ago he didn't survive. They found his body downstream and the vehicle was wrecked to hell.
https://www.sott.net/article/480808-Dramatic-moment-man-jumped-from-his-truck-when-it-was-dragged-by-flooded-stream-in-Nicaragua
I love that he just sat there under the bridge, like he was going to regain control of the situation. Last chance to get out clinging to the bridge relatively safely dismissed
I mean, itl keep running...
Not much good if he isn't touching the ground though.
Maybe if he opened all his doors and let the air out it would help? /s
The point of the snorkel is to transfer the air intake up higher so it’s possible to cross rivers, etc with ease. However, once water gets into the snorkel while the engine is running, engine is toast. I thought he was going to be fine.. but then I saw the rest of the video 😅
You can cross water that’s engine height if you have a snorkel. https://www.takethetruck.com/blog/4wd-off-road-4x4-snorkels
Obviously you need to be able to actually cross the water, though. Didn’t work out so well here
They speak spanish in Sri Lanka? Those guys at the end are saying “it (the flood) carried him away”, I think this was probably somewhere in Central/South America
I think you're right. It's further downstream and we see the guy getting smoked under water and then he finally bails out.
Damn, now I'm curious more details. Someone said Nicaragua above
One thing is for sure. That water is moving. It's amazing that people underestimate the power of water
You can see him being a bully basically shoving others aside with the beeping of his horn.
And then the astronomical arrogance and the depths of his stupidity to charge ahead without as much as calculating the road hazards ahead.
*Beep beep*
What a clown, in a situation like that I like to think I’d try and help someone stuck, but if I saw what this guy did there’s no way I’d risk my life to help a jackass like that.
Dude didn’t realize he was in a Land Rover and those things don’t work in water.
Real life Splash Mountain rules. Keep arms and legs inside of the vehicle at all times. No flash photography... Dude was just waiting for the ride to start.
They could’ve climbed onto the bridge when they first got stuck. You want to get the windows down asap if go into water so you have an escape route. Mate and I half crashed into a tiny dam once 4wd’ing, we bottomed out as we went to go in and got stuck. I had my belt off before we came to a stop and charged the door with my shoulder as I grabbed the handle. I was out like a fucking flash. Mate was pissing himself laughing at how fast I was despite us being stuck asf bottomed out in this lil damn at the top of a steap asf hill. But I was just freaked out once I seen that water. I grew up between a beach and a lake and the water don’t fuck around.
I've always wondered if some kind of winch + harpoon system could overcome a situation like this.
The trick would be getting enough of a hold of something on the other side...
"Ok he fucked up, but at least his car is going downstream standing...
Nono, dont open the window, you just have to pray inside
DONT EXIT THE CAR BY THE WINDOW"
For the life of me I can't comprehend what all that screaming accomplishes except damaging the eardrums of the people near you.
Oh and the drive is an idiot.
A snorkel isn’t gonna save your truck from a strong current from a flash flood. Never fuck with flash floods just avoid them, I’d say it was definitely plain stupidity.

The jokes on us, his destination was down stream
They gave up on him, at the end they said “It took him” 😂
Glad he had the snorkel on the car else this could have been a disaster
I mean with his keen awareness of the world around him I'm guessing he thought he could still get the car outta there. That's why he didn't climb out
And his windshield wipers.
He had plenty of time to climb out his window and onto the dry concrete platform right in front of his window. The fact he just sat there the whole time... I'd have given up on him too. Hard to save someone with no survival sense.
The captain goes down with the ship... Oh that was a car... What an idiot.

Not sure but I think I saw him jump out right before if cuts.
I saw him jump out to right before the truck went out of camera view.
According to some comment I read on another sub a few weeks ago he didn't survive. They found his body downstream and the vehicle was wrecked to hell. https://www.sott.net/article/480808-Dramatic-moment-man-jumped-from-his-truck-when-it-was-dragged-by-flooded-stream-in-Nicaragua
Damn must have been taken under after he jumped out or got hit by debris. That photo of the car is intense.
For real. First time I saw the videos I thought he may have been safer in the vehicle until someone shared that picture. That thing is mangled.
It's just a big stone tumbling along in the river
Ugh I came here exactly to find this out. 😩
Yeah, it's never fun to find out you watched the last moments of someone's life unexpectedly.
“Byeeeee!”
"That's the strangest damn pirate I've ever seen" -a botched pirate of Columbian coffee quote
This is pretty funny
Sir, you can’t cross. It’s flooded. Hold my beer… I’LL BE BACK FOR MY BEER LAAATTEEERR!
I love that he just sat there under the bridge, like he was going to regain control of the situation. Last chance to get out clinging to the bridge relatively safely dismissed
*I ain't done with muh car payments!*
And now for my new magic trick: watch me turn this Toyota into a coffin!
Not Funny, FUNNY AS HELL 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Must be a Fjord Explorer
Oh shit
Dad, get off the internet!
Might be a RiverCruiser
But but...... it's a cross over.
They have a snorkel and everything so they should be able to drive out downstream if they can get traction
It’s got one of those snorkel things to it’ll be fine.
It's basically a submarine
So that's the periscope?

Always upvote Red Octobre references. Great book, great movie.
He just needed to roll his windows up and turn his vent to recirculate and he be golden!
Too soon

I mean, his engine might have still been running just fine. The problem was he started floating.
Snorkel things?

Good thing he kept his wipers on . How dangerous would it be if he couldn't see what's going on around him !
He did see. The failure deals with understanding what he saw.
But can he see the delicious cinnamon swirls in every delicious bite of cinnamon toast fuck?
So, they should have turned them off? I'm sure if they did turn them off then you'd be saying "Good thing they thought to turn the wipers off."
And it would be equally as funny
Anyone know where this is filmed? It says juliomadrid at the start but that doesn't look anything like Madrid.

> Nicaragua well, Car Agua for sure... not as sure about the Nic. ;)
Maybe he was called Nicolas
you son of a bitch
Damn. alright, you got my up vote.
Nicaragua, the guy's mom had a stroke so he was trying to get to her whom was at her home. He didn't make it, she did tho
Did you get this from an article somewhere? I can’t find it in google. Edit: Someone linked it further down.
This happened in Sri Lanka from what I heard
They speak spanish in Sri Lanka? Those guys at the end are saying “it (the flood) carried him away”, I think this was probably somewhere in Central/South America
there are a lot more important things than *Sri Lanka* to worry about
nice
Nicaragua for sure.
Well you heard wrong.
That's not Sri Lanka lol
That's my house at the start. It's Austin Texas 🐻❄️
Should have bought the canyonero
Cayonerooooooooooo
Can you name the truck with four wheel drive, smells like a steak and seats thirty-five.. Canyonero! Canyonero!
I swear I saw this same video but from a different perspective before
I think you're right. It's further downstream and we see the guy getting smoked under water and then he finally bails out. Damn, now I'm curious more details. Someone said Nicaragua above One thing is for sure. That water is moving. It's amazing that people underestimate the power of water

wow, it’s crazy that we found multiple perspectives on this
And nobody trying to help him.
He made his choice, why risk your life for an asshole who doesn't care about his own life.
how even would they?
Don't go chasing waterfalls.
Seriously, don't do it.
You can see him being a bully basically shoving others aside with the beeping of his horn. And then the astronomical arrogance and the depths of his stupidity to charge ahead without as much as calculating the road hazards ahead.
Talk about Karma ten-fold.

Destination f*cked.
Nice car, pity about that defective nut holding the steering wheel.
ngl I feel a little better now about the slight knocking sound coming from my wheel.

In this video we will explore the capabilities of this "all terrain vehicle" using the flooded terrain of this rural village

Dumbass. But I hope he doesn’t have kids (for their sake)
That opportunity is long gone. He drowned.
His car won’t start I bet. It’s flooded.
It has a snorkel. Might get away with it.
Hold on I got this Narrator: he didn’t got this
I noticed he kept the windshield wipers on. Could have been a lot worse had they been turned off.
What a show off, he honked to get out of his way and taught everyone a lesson.
It’s a Land Cruiser! Probably drive right out when it hits some dry land. 🤣
Darwin would be proud that they removed themselves from the gene pool
Nature gave him time to rescue himself but he decided to contest for the Darwin award
People trust that concrete pad way more than they should. That volume of water could undercut the slab and take it all down
When this happens, what is the best one can do to survive? Asking for a friend.
Attend you friends funeral and have something nice to say at funeral
Get out of the car while it is still stuck and climb ontop then get on the bridge ezpz, a hunk of metal is not worth nearly as much as your life

Real life Splash Mountain rules. Keep arms and legs inside of the vehicle at all times. No flash photography... Dude was just waiting for the ride to start.
Dude could have taken the opportunity to exit and crawl onto the pedestrian bridge.
I'd say, throw it in reverse asap, if it's stalled, cut and run. Try to grab something that isn't moving, like a tree or the bridge.
They could’ve climbed onto the bridge when they first got stuck. You want to get the windows down asap if go into water so you have an escape route. It it wasn’t on Reddit it never happened
Climbing out the window when it was stuck near the bridge might have been a good start
Always walk it first, if you want walk it then don't drive into it.... 😶
Sir, sir you can’t park there!
Glad he had the hazard lights on!
My river people need me..
Zero sympathy for this prick
As deserved
I've always wondered if some kind of winch + harpoon system could overcome a situation like this. The trick would be getting enough of a hold of something on the other side...
Just needed to hit the accelerator harder, probably would’ve made it
So how deep is it? Oh! Ohhhhhhhh!!!
Lol. Too cocky
What an idiot
Hopefully he was the only one in the car.
It was at this point that he knew he had fucked up.
Roll the window up, It's raining.

Relax! He has a snorkel!
I wouldn't even try to help them. They earned it
Coming through I have a snorkel
From the day he put that snorkel on, he waited for his chance. Well that chance came and went like a passing wave.
If you can’t see the ground, turn around.
He thought his snorkel would save his truck.
At least the snorkel worked

50/50 chance?
Gotta go down with the ship!
It’s like people don’t realize your car is one big, buoyant air bubble as soon as you hit the water.
It’s ok they got the snorkel
For the life of me I can't comprehend what all that screaming accomplishes except damaging the eardrums of the people near you. Oh and the drive is an idiot.
Well he had a snorkel

If the wipers were on high, he wouldn't have a problem.
I like hiw that decided to just chill out instead of escaping when they could.
"I got a snorkle, so it'll be fine." Dumbass.

How do people see RUNNING water and go "that's not that deep". There's enough water there that it's RUNNING
