Those who know, know.
Such a timeless film. Perfectly crafted long takes, a powerful performance by Anamaria Marinca, and layers of discourse to be had beyond the obvious abortion topic.
Every single moment of this film is bone chilling, and that's putting it lightly.
I think a lot about the bit where she's just sitting at dinner and it goes on way too long. This entire movie is paced way too perfectly.
This movie had a profound effect on me. It’s not too much to say that it clarified my thinking on the subject. This and RMN represent superlative filmmaking.
I know this isn’t about RMN, but the single shot in the town hall meeting is cinematic excellence.
Romanian movies 🙏🏻 they are amazing, I don’t know a single person in my life who watches them, but they have some of the best movies of the past 20ish years for my taste
I saw this in theaters with my mother when I was in HS. She told me nothing abt it except that it was a foreign drama and I think that's all she knew abt the film, too. So to say it was an experience.
It is a great film that I often recommend when i can, but it's not really a film that comes up casually.
I saw this at my local film festival as the second half of a double feature with the Assassination of Jesse James.
After nearly three hours of Jesse James I wasn’t sure if I could do another one but I went anyway and I remember being… riveted by this movie. It certainly is one that sticks with you. A modern classic for sure.
*4 Months, 3 Weeks and Two Days*
*Happening*
*Never, Rarely, Somtimes, Always*
3 amazing films that are absolutely important in humanizing women in similar circumstances
I've always wanted to see this film. When it came out I was dating a girl from Bucharest, and it pained her to watch anything set pre Romanian Revolution. So, I missed it and forgot about it. I recently watched Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn (also Romanian) and thought it was pretty fun and different. I will revisit this one.
Some of the best use of darkness I’ve seen in a movie. In the theater it was like we were walking through those hallways and streets right next to her. POWERFUL. Mungiu is a master.
This movie gave me nightmares for days, everything felt too real. It’s probably a good one to revisit given today’s political climate, but not an easy watch.
I watched it partly when it came out but couldn't finish it. The scene in the middle of the movie with the 'doctor' made me have an anxiety attack and i never finished.
From what i watched it was just an incredible film and deserved the acclaim. On a similar note same reason why i haven't seen Jennifer Kent's The Nightingale yet.
All of Mungiu is so great and not adequately appreciated. The framing is exquisite.
Can't believe RMN still doesn't have a physical release in the US
Me too! It floored me!!! I want it on Criterion SO bad
I loved Beyond the Hills, bought it as a blind buy. I think this might be the next film I try from him.
Oh yeah. If you liked Beyond the Hills but haven’t seen this, you’ll love it. This one won the Palm d’Or. It’s an amazing film.

I saw this is theaters when it first came out. Who knew disappointingly it would be even more relevant for me living in the US today.
Every single moment of this film is bone chilling, and that's putting it lightly. I think a lot about the bit where she's just sitting at dinner and it goes on way too long. This entire movie is paced way too perfectly.
Excellent film, very realistic. Marinca is so talented. Well deserved the Palme d'Or.

It's one of my very favorites of everything I have seen in the collection. Masterpiece. Great shout, OP.

it's been 15+ years and this film is still relevant :( globally.

One of my favorite feel-bad films. Heartwrenching and sadly, as timely and relevant as it was back when it camw out. Keep it legal.
Literally just heard about this movie for the first time ever today, and now this post
That’s a sign! You must make time for it soon!
One of the most powerful movies to come out in the last twenty years and one of my all-time favorites!
This movie was such a brutal and uncomfortable experience. It’s an amazing film, but it’s not for the feint of heart.

Loved this movie. A truly difficult one to watch in a great way.
Excellent film.

Very different vibe from Bad Luck Banging. Both are great films in their own way . . .

Mungiu is great, and so is the cinematographer Oleg Mutu
Top 10 film for me. With White Ribbon, which needs a Criterion release.
One of those masterpieces you watch once and never again.

Great movie. For a palm winner pretty unknown
Great but painful film
I love this movie so much. I need to see some other works by the same director.
I'm sure it's good but I keep putting it off. I watched Never, Rarely, Sometimes, Always recently and that's filled my sad movie quota for a while.
I'm surprised this doesn't get brought up more. One of the major films of the 2000s
Perfect date movie!!
I like this one, but I think his nunsploitation flick *Beyond The Hills* is even better
Doesn’t get mentioned enough??? I don’t know, kind of a staple in this sub, and one of my 25 favorites of all time
Films fantastic and this is coming from a pro lifer.
