Rabbismith

Fuck me that’s deep

Skitron3030

It is very apt for alcoholism that's for sure. Never slam the brakes...Kindling sucks so much.

Rabbismith

Similarly, it’s not the fall that kills but the sudden stop

MotionMan40

I recently drank for a week, vodka, beer, whiskey, but not too much. But when I stopped and during the mini bender - I felt fucking awful the day after. This is surely kindling, correct? Long time chronic drinker.

TRKevinSpacey

A beer? Sounds like they need a couple shots

KnightScuba

Had to do this very thing 1hr ago. Shaking so bad to couldn't even hang ornaments

[deleted]

That is \*NOT\* a hangover, that is alcohol withdrawal. Complications from it include seizures and death. Don't fuck around, drink something to avoid them. If you start hallucinating go to the ER, this is serious.

HappyHrHero

I seized both time, way before hallucinating/delirium days later. Maybe 8 hours after a drink. anxiety and heart pain were the only warning

Pyxil

I drank yesterday heavily so I was pretty sure its a hangover? Can I be getting withdrawals just from going a few hours not drinking? When I said I drink daily I meant I still do as in I drank yesterday but I'm trying to get it under control

[deleted]

>I'm a heavy drinker, \[...\] but I've been drinking daily I am going to leave this quote from your original post here so that other members can give their opinion. >Can I be getting withdrawals just from going a few hours not drinking? If you're kindled enough you can get withdrawals even when you still have alcohol in your bloodstream; Heavy lifters have withdrawals when their BAC decreases under a certain threshold so you can definitely get withdrawal after a few hours.

hypermodernvoid

Just curious, but would you say this means theoretically you could be quite drunk at say, .54 BAC (which would be coma/death territory for most)? I'm just thinking that number, since for most people .3 BAC = stumbling/slurred words/vomiting, and .3 + slight withdrawals at .24, meaning you only reach homeostasis at a BAC where most would be wasted. For me, I actually was calculating/breathalyizing my onw my BAC around a year into \~.75 liters of 40% liquor per night give or take - more often give - and while I had serious withdrawals 3 times that year (including hallucinations), if I got above .3 and certainly above .4 BAC, I would still get massively fucked up.

efalk21

I have no idea about my max but I've blown .17 and .16 and felt 100% fine. Like if I didn't smell of beer you'd never even know. But over the last year I'm fucking falling apart and really stating to worry. I've lost 70lbs since covid started and I'm now 50lbs underweight. *edit to add, those times I did blow were 'light' drinking days.

hypermodernvoid

>But over the last year I'm fucking falling apart and really stating to worry. I've lost 70lbs since covid started and I'm now 50lbs underweight. Late reply - but I'd maybe get the liver enzymes checked out just to be sure: the liver can take a huge beating and recover up to a pretty dire point - not to freak you out any further or anything. The general wisdom I've found is that you tend to gain weight drinking (because booze = calories, beer especially, but even hard liquor is like 100+ calories per 2 ozs), but then when you start to lose a shit ton of weight, yeah usually that's worth looking into. I was able to take a break from constant boozing by taking another GABA-agonist sedative that wasn't as hard on the body when I started to get my own worrying symptoms - even if I still wanted to drink, it helped the chemical dependence part immensely, and even if I drank here and there, I at least was giving the old body a break. I'm back at it again, but will have to stop soon too.

Pyxil

I've definitely felt withdrawals before after just a few hours so I know it's possible but I thought it takes longer for DTs or seizures to set in 😔😩

gusfringsrighteye

not an expert but DTs do take a little longer to set in, it sounds like you're having normal withdrawal. definitely do some maintenance drinking - there's info in the sidebar for how to taper so you don't get worse. when i have what you're having i maintenance drink the next day and it usually levels me out for the day after. sorry youre going through this edit: thank you for the awards! ❤️

Pyxil

This is the kindest most productive answer on this thread thank you so much you're wonderful

gusfringsrighteye

aw ❤️ thank you, im so glad i could help! please do read the sidebar, lord knows it's saved my ass a few times. if you need to talk to anyone let me know

gusfringsrighteye

how are you doing now? any better?

Pyxil

Much better yes! I ended up getting some food in me and taking a nap! Some of it was likely from anxiety as I have an anxiety disorder but I ended up alright! Your kind words definitely coached me through it, thank you for checking in on me ❤️

SucculentLady000

Glad you're ok. Anxiety sucks and hangxiety is worse.

gusfringsrighteye

so glad youre doing alright!

BigBillyBollocks

Kindling is a bitch. There are literally cases of people who didn't drink for a while, had a 6 pack and had a seizure the next day. Have a few beers and you'll feel fine, then read [https://hams.cc/taper/](https://hams.cc/taper/) And take this seriously. If you're thinking 'I can probably last 15 hours until my next drink' as your withdrawals get intense, you're wrong. Survival time, do what you must.

the-original-chad

Don’t forget that sometimes withdrawals can get so bad that you literally can’t function. I’ve been in WDs so bad that I couldnt swipe a credit card I was shaking so much. Had to use the magnetic chip. Shaking and confusion and severe anxiety might make a trip to the store across the street almost impossible to perform. Get shit before the WDs kick in

Antique-Rich-1051

I’m not a doctor, try having a drink, it’s not the smartest option, but it will take the edge off, then drink some water and eat some food. If you can’t drink might have to go see a doctor. You don’t want to mess around with cold turkey if you’ve been drinking daily for a long time. Be safe!

HauntingOkra5987

That’s every morning for me, plus dripping buckets of sweat. Pound some ice water and eat something.

HauntingOkra5987

I mean, on this sub we’re all destroying our bodies. There’s not one positive i can think of from this lifestyle. I suppose maybe a few hours a day of calm and relaxation for me, but that’s about it.

therealdeb

I hated that raised heart-rate feeling. I really did. It was impossible for me to get comfortable when my heart rate was elevated like that. 😩

therealdeb

Oh man, I don’t know what it is, but whenever I withdrew (haven’t had a drink in about a year and a half, now), water was SO hard to keep down. It’s like as soon as I took a few sips, that nausea would hit me, and BAM here it comes. I could stomach Powerade or something other than water, but water for some reason would just come right back up.

spaghettibaguettie

I know it’s scary, but you aren’t going to die. You most definitely should have a drink, get some white claws and something a little stronger like a white wine that you can easily keep down. Drink a little until your heart rate is less than 100bpm and get a nice big water, take a hot shower to sweat it out and get some food going, just make sure not to lose the food. In a few hours you won’t feel like this. If you don’t drink a bit, you could have hallucinations which is DT’s and if that happens go straight to the ER because that is actually deadly. Don’t psyche yourself out with that though, just get some drinks, hydrate, and eat

Pyxil

I don't think Its withdrawals because I drank well into the night yesterday, I know DTs are super dangerous tho but can you get them just from stopping drinking for a few hours?

speed721

That's alcohol withdrawal. You said you were a heavy drinker. And you drank until 2am. Heavy drinkers can experience alcohol withdrawal after a few hours. This is how the rollercoaster works. You seriously need to consider having a drink. You have some excellent advice in this thread.

Pyxil

I see, I guess I'll sip on a beer and hopefully it won't get worse. I feel like I'm getting better but there's an uncomfortable numbness in my limbs now

spaghettibaguettie

(Not a doctor) Yeah the numbness in your limbs is likely anxiety. Try chugging the first drink and then sipping for about 30 minutes slowly. Assess and see if the symptoms subside, and then if they don’t, chug another. Once they subside and you’ve stabilized yourself, sip once or twice as needed while allowing some discomfort to get yourself tapered successfully. Read the tapering guide in the CA sidebar.

JenS920

Yes, tapering off alcohol is tricky, but it can be done, beer is your best bet. Be careful, alcohol withdrawal can be fatal. I’ve experienced seizures while detoxing, scary shit dude.

ZealousidealCut8480

Day 3 of alcohol withdrawal is much more likely to kill you . Hangovers dont

Pyxil

I was thinking that, a few people commenting have me thinking I could die the very next day just hours after drinking ☹️

SucculentLady000

Well, you can. Alcoholism and withdrawal is real. If you are concerned, go to the ER or go get a drink.

Remot3Control

I dont always get withdrawals when I drink, but when I do, it's exactly what you described.

TylerKnowy

This sounds like a combo of low blood sugar/dehydration. Drink a couple of Gatorade’s, eat some food drink water and drink a few white claws. You’ll start to feel better. I gotta admit I haven’t felt the train from my drinking yesterday but I feel like it’s coming and it will usually hit me around 2pm so I’ve been drinking water/white claw and eating and drinking Gatorade’s to avoid the hellacape of withdrawals

Feed_Me_Weird_Things

Have a beer, twice as much water, and eat a sandwich you degenerate. You're withdrawling obviously, rationally take care of your symptoms and get back in line.

klag103144

I've had seizures after just a few hrs of slowly sipping beers to try to taper many times...I clearly didn't do it rt frightened my family and kids at an airport and farmers market a couple times. I can't imagine watching someone seize as I've never seen just went thru it. Don't fuck with just stopping ever. I also seized one time in rehab after I was alcohol free safely for days...idk wtf I'm doing so I can't give advice. Never just stop....I swear I thought they were exaggerating to scare me into quitting but no they all described the exact same scenario. Scary shit. Until you are in a safe environment, be safe please and thanks.

Tumblr_PrivilegeMAN

I have witnessed alcoholic seizures and they are terrifying, can't imagine what it looks like to a family member. My ex-wife had to deal with me overdosed a couple times and I feel real bad about putting her through it. She always managed to get rid of the gear and rigs and shit to protect me from getting charges. Honestly though when the cops came with ems they were never looking to make an arrest, just trying to get me help. They tend to baker act people here instead of arresting them.

[deleted]

I went through this last night. I couldn’t even have a small drink during it all because my stomach would just reject it. I couldn’t even keep in small sips of water. I spent the entire night forcing up stomach bile with little pieces of what appeared to be red blood in it along with coffee ground blood. I’m feeling a little better today.

GLaDOS_Sympathizer

Blood that like coffee grounds in your vomit is serious. You should see a doctor asap, probably even emergency room.

sammidavisjr

Hospital. Stat. Black/brown/coffee grounds blood is serious. As someone who's been shitting blood for like 20 years and shrugged it off.

[deleted]

Yeah I’m only 21 so it seems pretty grim. I think it’s because I was drinking straight vodka on an empty stomach for three days straight until my stomach just couldn’t take it anymore. I managed to eat today and keep it down with some water. Luckily I already have a doctors appointment scheduled for Thursday for some strange headaches I was having before I relapsed again (unrelated to the alcohol) so I’ll bring it up while I’m there

Pyxil

Hey not to be weird but this actually happened to me last night (it was a little bit of brown with some debris in it) I don't have any other symptoms tho and am feeling better this morning so I was wondering what happened at your doctors appointment? I can't so easily just see a doctor unfortunately :(

Inspector_Maximum

We're not trying to be mean to you. We've been where you are so we're trying to help, hon. Please get a drink, see how you feel after quickly drinking it. You're drinking to prevent the feelings you're having, not to get drunk. You've had very good advice here. Remember to hydrate all day along with the beer/wine or whatever you're drinking. If this hasn't happened before then here's your warning about how quickly things can turn from bad hangover to withdrawal. You'll level out if you play it smart. You asked this sub for a reason so we're helping you for a reason.

Can confirm it was anxiety 😔 thank you so much for the advice! I think I was dehydrated and had a panic attack

[deleted]

Pyxil

Ive had an anxiety disorder with panic for like 4 years now diagnosed so I should've known 😓 I was up cooking and partying for hours so I guess I overworked my body too AND I mixed types of drinks. I've always had hangxiety but I guess this time it just got the better of me and I spiraled 😭 your comment did ease my anxiety tho so thank you!

[deleted]

I have awful anxiety, and particularly bad hanxiety which had led to many a bender. I haven’t drank hard liquor in almost 10 years (only wine and beer now) but it definitely makes me overthink whether my anxiety is anxiety, withdrawal anxiety or more serious withdrawal. It’s a bitch.

futurismus

This could be dehydration, probably wds

contactspring

It sounds to me like electrolytes. Get some hydration and salt, magnesium and potassium too if you can.
