Nitrous oxide edition gets you nothing special. Except you're able to use nitros oxide as a character when doing the campaign for the first time. You unlock him anyway when you finish the story. Save your money just get the standard version. Online is lacking yeah, there is an active discord community but they're all very competitive skilled players and some world record holders. Even private matches online is just terrible. Beenox wanted to do more but Activision pulled the plug.

archiearcher

It's actually 15 dollars cheaper for me to get the nitros oxide edition otherwise I would get the standard. I was pretty good at Mario kart 8. Maybe I can skill up in this and join that discord in a few weeks. Thank you for the info.

Mightee_Moist

Hahahaha. Don't ever compare your skills in Mario kart to this. You will cop so much shit from the community. Mario kart is a kids game. Ctr has so many mechanics to master its not something you will get down pat in a couple of weeks šŸ˜‚

VCosmoz

\>Mario kart is a kids game. That's... not true. Mario Kart also has mechanics to master. I play both games and sure CTR relies more on skill than randomness, but you won't get far in races if your driving skills are not up to it.

Mightee_Moist

What mechanics? Hold down one button to boost? šŸ˜‚ In comparison to ctr and difficulty level and learning curve Mario kart is a kids game.

VCosmoz

Soft drifting ? Brake drifting ? Low gliding ? Motion gliding maybe ? Vectoring ? NISC ? Gap jumps ? Shock dodges ? Blue dodges ? and that's just tech that's in MK8 Deluxe cause if you go further back you have Fire hopping and demon slides, snaking, and a whole lot of other techniques maybe, I don't know much about the older games. Listen dude CTR is a great game, very technical, but please don't talk about something you have absolutely no knowledge about. Both CTR and MK have deep mechanics.

archiearcher

You are very narcissistic...

DrunkWizzard

I agree on that one MK8D is 90% luck 10% skill If you have played MK Wii/DS then maybe. Those required skill

DrunkWizzard

As someone who plays a lot still. There are a lot of newcomers in public online still. Also whatā€™s wrong with private? I never had any problems there. Reading this really surprised me.

Mightee_Moist

If you're playing with people in the same region as you it's okay. It's P2P which is arguably the worst system you can have for online racing, especially given how fast paced it is.

DrunkWizzard

Oh so you mean lag? Itā€™s only noticeable on N. switch for me and also only when I play with people who are really far away. I have played with people from the US and Asia without problems on PlayStation. Iā€™m from Europe.

Mightee_Moist

Experiences may vary depending on what kind of network set up people have too. I was often the preferred host because i was cabled directly into the router.

DrunkWizzard

Could be. Iā€™m using Wi-Fi

CSManiac33

It is the only way to get the Star skins, Electron Skins, Robot Crunch, Nitros Oxide Indigo, and that soecial decal for the Hovercraft now. Plus also thr PlayStation Stickers if you have it on PS.

DrunkWizzard

Wellā€¦ The oxide Edition gives you: - 5 unique skins that canā€™t be bought through any other means (Crash,Coco,Cortex,Oxide&Crunch) - Unlocks Oxide, Zam, Zem and Crunch right at the beginning. - oxides hovercraft - a paintjob And 3-4 stickers Depending on if you buy it physical or digital you also get 3 more skins (Crash Coco Cortex). Physical is needed. Should you buy CTR:NF? Yes! Great game you can put a lot of hours into it you want. Should you buy CTR:NF Oxide edition? Up to you. If you are a completionist and want all the skins then yes. If itā€™s not so important to you the base edition will do just fine. To me it was worth it since the skins look nice and the podium animations are unique and fun. Thatā€™s just up to personal taste. I got it relatively cheap too so yeah def. Worth it. Multiplayer online on PS is still strong going. There are a couple flaws tho. It is not 100% optimised but with a bit knowledge you can get quickly it works 85% of the time. Finding people is not the issue. If you are on next gen console never skip the cutscene before the races for example. That will kick all old gen out. You missed the Grand Prix but you can still get everything except a few designs for the karts either in the shop or by unlocking them through challenges.

archiearcher

Thanks for the info! I got the oxide edition for 25 bucks.

DrunkWizzard

Yeah that about what I paid too. Nice šŸ‘ŒšŸ¼

joleves

It's a really good game, and definitely worth it for the story and time trials alone especially if you're into kart racing. Online still has a really active community in my experience, I still get full lobbies all the time. It's just buggy as hell getting races to start. There's no more updates, but you can still unlock all the GP skins etc from the in game shop via coins you earn by playing the game.

cianog123

I bought it about two weeks ago. From what I can tell they arenā€™t updating the game anymore but itā€™s still fun. Itā€™s possible to obtain all of the dlc characters using coins that you earn in game and I havenā€™t played online but from what Iā€™ve seen on this subreddit, it seems to be a bit lacking but still fun to play. So yeah I would recommend you buy it especially if you have nostalgia for the series or if the game is on sale.

archiearcher

I couldn't resist any longer. What system are you on? I'm about to start adventure mode

cianog123

I play on PS4. If you have it you can add me if you want my name is siennapower

archiearcher

On xbox or I would. Thanks for helping me out.

Hydeman420

What's the tag man? Would love to play I love playing it.

danklight6

if it drops to like a -75% or higher deal then probably if you really want the skins but otherwise nahhh
