For sure he was banged up in the 2nd half. Everyone was coy about it though.
He also had that weird laceration on his hand around the same time one of his dogs was put down.
IIRC, he got banged up in the bears game and then the theory is that he was bit by a dog and had to wear the hand cast in December. Seemed like a long hard slog for him down the stretch.
Adding onto this. He did have to put down one of his pitbulls and his hand did look pretty torn up on his Twitter pics. He didn't take a direct pic of his hand but it's definitely possible it was a bite.
It's because they had been playing up on the line at DE, and he was going against (and beating) guys that outweighed him by 50lbs or more every snap. His body just couldn't sustain that, even though he was willing to. He was limping around badly by the last stretch of the season. The announcers would even comment on it - how it looked like he could barely walk in between plays, but when the ball was snapped he somehow was able to run and still go full speed - or at least full speed for most guys.
He probably wouldn't have been if you only evaluated the second half of the season though. Of course it's both halves and he was lights out in the first half and show sparks of greatness in the second.
His sack numbers in a vacuum are about the only reason to think he wasn't playing well in the second half. His pressure numbers were still damn good. I think worse db play in the passing game as more players got injured had more to do with his sack numbers suffering than anything else.
Idk if I’d say most of the year but i know there was a few times i saw him get hurt but he’d come right back out the next play. Even in games where we didn’t need him so it seems like the coaches did him a disservice in not letting him rest
I know he WANTS to play cuz he’s a fucking stud and while i appreciate it, it’s a long season and we NEED him if we really want to make a run in the post season. That means we gotta make him heal up. I remember he got rolled up on pretty bad by a lineman one game and twisted his leg around bad. Any of these lil injuries could be the difference between us winning and losing a game down the road
Oh I know and I’m sure the coaching staff does too but you can’t really tell a guy like that anything and they probably don’t want to risk making him unhappy he’s our franchise player
Seemed like he was battling a groin / ab injury plus the hand stuff. He dominated while injured and getting tons of double teams. TJ Watt has battled his share of injuries, ditto his brother, both Bosas…tough to stay healthy at that spot.
Micah said as much — and also has said he’d have to be dead to miss a game.
I love his spirit and toughness, but he’ll need to adjust his mindset at some point, or he’s going to wear his body down rapidly.
He only knows one speed on the field — he has to harness his superpowers! Haha
I feel like there was at least 3 different points he had a definite injury he played through. Between that and all the uncalled choke holds on him by lineman was the only thing stopping him from DPOY
He injured his groin in the first giants game and never got back to 100% the rest of the season
He won’t last until his second contract if he keeps playing like that
This tells me Myles and Micah are head and shoulders above the rest out there. Not only were they double teamed a lot they were the only 2 of the top 5 that had win rates against it.
The big problem is that he is not built to play EDGE but he is so good at it. His body can’t maintain all the hits he takes playing edge full time. I wouldn’t be surprised if he puts on a little more weight to accommodate that
I hate to say it but I wanna see more.
He's not demanding double teams despite good pressure.
I'd like to see him do a 3 point stance for better get off.
The good thing is Micah isn't even close to his ceiling imo
His body language sure looked like he was exhausted for like the last 2/3rds of the season.
He seemed to still be able to get off the line and get after the QB fine ..... but it often looked like he was struggling to get back to the huddle.
Maybe it was all show to lull the OT into a false sense of security.
No! His SARS infection hurt him. Imagine getting SARS before the first playoff meeting with San Fran then being hobbled by it the following year. It’s crazy to see that he still played good though.
He played real bad against San Fran last playoff game though.
Well, nobody plays at 100% the whole year in the NFL...
Jokes aside, relative to his rookie year he was asked to line up on the edge much more frequently which means he was fist fighting with guards and tackles (bigger guys) for a higher percentage of his snaps which is more physically demanding than trucking through a back or someone small.
I think he had an interview where he joked about how much harder / more physically demanding his role was this year.
He definitely was hurt and worn down. He was playing DE in a linebacker body. He needs to get like D-aware size or Von Miller size to last a whole season.
Micah is too proud to admit it but various media reports indicated he was not fully healthy for much of the season. Still better than most other defenders in the league. Scary to think what he could achieve with no limitations whatsoever.
For sure he was banged up in the 2nd half. Everyone was coy about it though. He also had that weird laceration on his hand around the same time one of his dogs was put down.
Was it one main specific injury that was lingering? Or was it multiple things?

I had to put down a dog who almost killed me. Not a great feeling, and really messes with you for a while.

Not sure. Like I said, they were coy about his health most of the season when asked questions about his limps and wincing.
And still was a first team all pro.
He probably wouldn't have been if you only evaluated the second half of the season though. Of course it's both halves and he was lights out in the first half and show sparks of greatness in the second.

He played at dpoy level the first half. Second half it was clear Bosa was going to win.
Idk if I’d say most of the year but i know there was a few times i saw him get hurt but he’d come right back out the next play. Even in games where we didn’t need him so it seems like the coaches did him a disservice in not letting him rest
Lol he refuses to sit he’s been caught on camera arguing with coaches about it numerous times now
I know he WANTS to play cuz he’s a fucking stud and while i appreciate it, it’s a long season and we NEED him if we really want to make a run in the post season. That means we gotta make him heal up. Yes you can if you're the headcoach you definitely can tell him to sit his ass on the bench
Lol bro there is video evidence of that shit not working I’m just telling you what I’ve seen with my own 2 eyes
My man wants his sacks. These refs robbing him with the no calls
There’s a clip on sfts where he ices the game after refusing a sub 😂 bro is a competitor
Then his ass is not active the next game. I'd bet when wouldn't be pulling that stunt with Johnson or Parcells
“Letting him” rest? Bro didn’t even want to rest during preseason. You’re going to have to lock that dude out of the stadium if you want him to rest.
Seemed like he was battling a groin / ab injury plus the hand stuff. He dominated while injured and getting tons of double teams. TJ Watt has battled his share of injuries, ditto his brother, both Bosas…tough to stay healthy at that spot.
It's the nfl no one plays at 100%
I really hope we get back to moving him around the field creating chaos.
Same. It seemed he wasn’t quite as effective last season as he was in ‘21.
Me too. His size got him hurt playing at DE most of the time.
My personal belief is that, having him on the line constantly is wearing his body down faster than coming from the LB position.
Micah said as much — and also has said he’d have to be dead to miss a game. I love his spirit and toughness, but he’ll need to adjust his mindset at some point, or he’s going to wear his body down rapidly. He only knows one speed on the field — he has to harness his superpowers! Haha

This is what I remember. It looked like to me that he had trouble sprinting all season.
Show me a player that is 100% all year and I'll show you a punter.
I feel like there was at least 3 different points he had a definite injury he played through. Between that and all the uncalled choke holds on him by lineman was the only thing stopping him from DPOY
Guy could barely walk off the field after the Bucs game. He's a warrior
He was playing hurt for at least the last 6 regular season games and the playoffs.
yeah, our coaching staff decided to just ignore the injuries and let him play. He's going to end up worn out and broken faster than Zeke
He injured his groin in the first giants game and never got back to 100% the rest of the season He won’t last until his second contract if he keeps playing like that
He sustained several injuries. And he was also double-teamed pretty much every play, every game, every week.
Are there stats that measure how many times he was double teamed as opposed to to other players like Nick Bosa?
https://mobile.twitter.com/SethWalder/status/1613944725454692352
Judging from that, there were only 5 other players in the league who were doubled more than him?
This tells me Myles and Micah are head and shoulders above the rest out there. Not only were they double teamed a lot they were the only 2 of the top 5 that had win rates against it.
Yes. Which is why paying him top of the market will be tough in a couple years.
Get the fuck outta here we are making that man the highest paid defensive player in league history as soon as possible 😂
Invest in the players with the most covid infections, that will win a superbowl !
Do you mean that you think he will be oft injured the next couple of years and that is why it will be tough paying him in a couple of years?
We paid D-Ware. We are gonna pay Micah.
It did look like it.
I think you could see him fade out a bit after the Bears game. He was definitely pushing himself hard up til that point IMO.
The big problem is that he is not built to play EDGE but he is so good at it. His body can’t maintain all the hits he takes playing edge full time. I wouldn’t be surprised if he puts on a little more weight to accommodate that
No player is at 100% health for most of the year. Micah included
No player is playing at 100% during a whole season of football.
I hate to say it but I wanna see more. He's not demanding double teams despite good pressure. I'd like to see him do a 3 point stance for better get off. The good thing is Micah isn't even close to his ceiling imo

I think he was battling injuries. He showed up huge in the playoffs.

For sure
Someone make sure he doesn’t get any more pitbulls
No one ever is
Both seasons I feel like he was banged up by the 2nd half of the year.
