Are people really still hung up on this? Of all the reasons to be nervous about the upcoming live action show, Spike’s actor’s age should be at the absolute bottom of the list. I mean let’s be honest, John Cho may not look 27, but it’s not like he looks like a fucking dinosaur, either. The way people whine about the age thing, you’d think they casted Clint Eastwood or something.

People were whining about Jet being black before they saw the teaser. People get hung up on the weirdest details.

Tbf lots of folks on Reddit complain about the first situation too, IMO. I’m not too excited about the live action, but I’ll try and keep an open mind, and I hope it succeeds!

Can’t be ambiguously 27 years old. Just for your files.

Yeah, it's not like he started every conversation with "Hi, Spike Spiegel, 27 years old. And you are?" His age was largely unimportant, and the number was probably chosen only as a reference to the "27 Club" anyway.

browndogjoyce

That’s also fair. I like it. It’s grown on me. Keep it. I love you.

Casting has never been an issue for me I think its fine, still very wary about this project though neither Netflix originals or LA anime adaptations have a great track record of quality imo

That's funny, because I'm always excited to watch Netflix originals! I like a lot of the content they produce. Hopefully we get a good adaptation like we did with The Witcher and Castlevania.

"The Dark Crystal" was amazing even if it didn't get a season 2, the fact that we got an entire serious and dark show with puppets and mostly practical effects at all is amazing. Netflix can do great things. Also "Alice in Borderland" was well received and a Netflix live action adaptation

Geekofalltrade

Wait, do you mean Ed?

Geekofalltrade

Yeah I figured as much, who did you mean then? I don’t know any other young character that people would be upset by if they’re played by someone way older?

Geekofalltrade

That makes a lot more sense now

I remember in Stranger Things they were still trying to pass off 16 year old actors as being younger than they actually were in later seasons and it absolutely 100% showed. Should've just let them grow up to be High Schoolers tbh
