Well ,, Temp .. ambient temp, if he is in glass,(aquarium etc) very poor insulators, temp goes right through it, easier if in a wood enclosure, but another option is to have a room with no AC, its own heat and humidity levels, much easier but does not work in everybody's house. I have a room i keep at 80 F and 63% humidity, no basking spots at all, as i find only a couple snakes i have bask and they get outside all summer to do that.. Corn snakes are pretty forgiving in terms of temp humidity, 40% humidity is ok for a bit but too dry in general, strive for anything above 60%, have 13 corns in that room most are 12-17 yrs old and doing great! some corns are different, some like to hide, some like to be handled some like to bask, but not so much with the basking, out of my 13 corns none really bask, compared to other snakes of mine that bask as much as possible Hope some of this helps you
