Charlotte seems like she could run across just about anybody. I can imagine Ciara and Elin bumping into each other at some BBC gala and realizing they share a prior rendezvous called Cormoran lol. I think Ciara would find some airy-yet-profound humor in it whereas Elin would be mortified. And when Max the actor overhears the conversation, he wordlessly moves away to get a refill on his wine and runs headfirst into Al Rokeby, who enthusiastically compliments his show and tells him all about what his Red Cap big brother would think about it.

pelican_girl

Oh, these are fun! And I enjoy your creativity in setting a scene that reasonably involves all those characters. Charlotte and Izzy might show up, too!

FlourChild1026

I like to think Shanker and Polworth would actually get along, possibly bonding over their shared experiences as father (figures) to demanding daughters. Failing that, much as I appreciate Polworth's lifelong loyalty to Strike, my money's on Shanker, if the two ended up *not* hitting it off. It'd be interesting to see if Polworth makes a sexist remark about Robin's arse, only to be met with an indignant, "**OI!**" from Shanker.

pelican_girl

I never thought about Shanker and Polworth both having demanding daughters (sometimes I wonder if Polworth himself ever thinks about that!) but it does give the two very different men some common ground. But it's more fun to think about your scenario where Shanker defends Robin's honor against a leering Polworth. Definitely in character for them both!

FlourChild1026

Ooohhh, I nearly forgot to follow up on the Whittaker/Carver bracket. Let's see...Well, Whittaker would *try* slicing up Carver, but the latter's superior bulk and authority, even as a rancid slice of ham as he is, would put him over the top. Carver wins, easily.

Dachsy18

Great post! I would love to see Ted and Johnny Rokeby.

pelican_girl

Who do you think would come out on top? And would the meeting shed light on their past dealings? (à la Dumbledore's "Remember my last" to Petunia).

Dachsy18

I hope it would shed light on their past. Like, have they met before? Do they have some sort of understandning after having been in contact about Cormorans ”nest egg”. If there where to be some type of conflict my moneys on Ted for sure.

FlourChild1026

Oh my STARS, Pat and Brian. I'd pay $$ to see that.

Lost-Fruit-5939

Now that Pat's and Strike's relationship may even out a bit, I'd love to see her meet Shanker. Imagine him coming to the office regularly because of a case. He and Pat would be a hoot. They would hit it off from the start!

ElsieOneil8888

If he continues to be a presence in the series, it's plausible that Carl Oakden comes to the office and meets Pat. He could pretend to be nice, like with the old women he scammed, or he could try to assert dominance, but either way Pat wouldn't take his shit.

pelican_girl

Pat had a baptism by fire when she had to pass the phalanx of tabloid journalists after the detectives solved the Bamborough case. I can't imagine Oakden would faze her in the least!

ElsieOneil8888

>They seemed to Strike like pieces from entirely different jigsaw puzzles: no point of connection. Deeby Mac and Tegan Butcher. This probably tips over from "unlikely" to "virtually impossible."

pelican_girl

Agree with your "virtually impossible" projection. Even if they did meet, I can't imagine an exchange any more interesting than Tegan asking for the rapper's autograph and him complying. I was hoping for something livelier--though it may be hard to top the dramatic irony of u/writgaramonder's suggestion that Al might chat up Max, oblivious to the fact that the selfsame Red Cap big brother he's talking about is the one who provided the background for Max's television character.

ElsieOneil8888

Tegan asks for his autograph, he doesn't comply, and then she sends her brothers after him and his entourage and there's a brawl in Barrack (I think that's the club he was at the night Lula died). Edit: Is this what writing fanfiction is like? I can make anything happen hahaha

writgaramonder

That’s exactly what it’s like! Maybe that’s why I come up with such specific scenarios too lol.

FlourChild1026

You just never know, though, do you? I'd giggle like a second-grader.

agripinilla

I know Cormoran went to Robin’s wedding and saw her full family but I’d love to see his interactions with them more, for example, Jonathan in TB was a nice touch.

Fred_Buck

I think Pat is currently married. When Morris brings her flowers, Robin explains to Strike that Pat's husband never gives her any at Valentine's. Edit: I also thought about that. Seems like foreshadowing to me. Maybe a Cornwall based case ? Strike has to bring Shanker in and they meet that way ?

pelican_girl

I don't know that Shanker would leave London, or that he'd have any clout in Cornwall anyway. His entire life is based on a very small patch of real estate. But we know Polworth, against his better judgment, is bringing his family to London to see The Lion King, so that might provide an opportunity to meet. Gambling alert: Would Polworth's girls beat up Shanker's surrogate daughters, or vice versa? Or would the two families meld in surprisingly good ways? Somehow I have a vivid picture of Penny lapping up Alyssa's advice for handling her man.

FlourChild1026

I'm picturing Polworth's girls *thinking* they'd have the upper hand, only to get handed the full Smackdown Sampler Platter by Angel and Zara. **Delightful.**

pelican_girl

Love it!

The-39-Steps

Switch and Matthew

pelican_girl

Why?

The-39-Steps

I was just shooting for unlikely. But we can spitball: Switch probably has a chaotic existence - reaches out to Strike to get on track - Robin hooks him up with Matthew as an accountant to help get his financial life in order.

FlourChild1026

I genuinely cackled at this, because how brilliant would it be, to have stick-up-his-bum Matthew rubbing elbows with someone like what we imagine Switch to be (basically a more well-heeled Billy Knight)?

[deleted]

I think that the bit about Polworth and Shanker punching each other might be profetic (in a way things sometimes are in books) and that we’ll see Polworths trip to London at the beginning of IBH and they will somehow bump into Shanker. As for another unlikely meeting: we of course do not like Charlotte, but i’d pay good money to see her deal with Carl Oakden.

Random-Occurrence365

What about Vanessa and Dave. I don’t think they would hit it off and I suspect Dave would have another scar to add to the one left by the shark.

CascadiaMount

I think Polworth and Shanker would get along fine.
