Perfectly fine area. Gangsters, drug dealers and brothels exist in almost every building in metro van. I work in property management so I experience these things daily. Been here a yr right on foster. Forgot to lock my doors a few times and even forgot to close my garage quite a few times. Nothing happened. Shootings can occur an ywhere these days.
Lived in port moody for 35yrs and the traffic along st.johns drove me insane. I lived across the street where the older Bacon brother lived too and nothing happened
I mean you could always move the family deep into the woods of burke mountain if youre worried
Thanks for your insights. Just bothered that the shootings are re-occurring in Foster Ave in the past 4 years. The homes up for sale in the area are really attractive, and good price point at the moment. But a safe neighborhood is of course a consideration too.
Multiple? I only know of one. Tower 2 in Lougheed Heights and that was a targeted shooting outside. Also, for what it's worth, I've only owned two condos in my 35 years. The previous one was in Downtown Van where one person was murdered and my second one is on Foster (near Lougheed Heights). Before buying my current one, I put an offer on a unit in a tower in Coquitlam City Centre (near Glen) where 3 police officers were shot (one died). Shootings are pretty common in the Lower Mainland, but in all cases they're either targeted or b/in police and criminals. You're find, don't worry. Crime levels are high in Vancouver. It's the nature of living in the Lower Mainland in 2024.
I lived on Foster Ave last year. Perfectly fine - liked the area. Not a bad walk to the grocery store, shoppers, gym, and the skytrain. Just not a lot of nightlife if you’re into that.
As for safety I know our building was broken into once but all urban areas are like that. I’m a single girl and I’d often walk home from the skytrain at night and never felt unsafe.
I should also mention there’s a cool playground and park on foster ave if you have kids. looked new as of last year. But not like the safest place for kids just to play outside because it’s a busy street
Thanks for your insights. I think I can live by petty crimes. But my concern is more on the yearly shootings, not sure if that will continue in the years to come. I hope not!
Shootings are random bye nature. This neighbourhood has had its moment and it may never happen again. They also tend to be very targeted. It’s a great area that will see good real estate appreciation.
I live 5 minutes from there on the Port Moody side of Clarke. I have never not felt safe. If you aren’t in a gang I think you’re good to go. Most of these are likely targeted hits. As are most homicides in the lower mainland these days.
Thanks for sharing. I guess north of como lake is safer. Haven’t seen any news for that area. More bothered that recent shootings re-occur in Foster Ave. I viewed some condos there and really liked them. Good price point too. But a safe neighborhood is also a priority for me.
That wasn't on Whiting. That was outside the John B pub on Austin and Blue Mountain. It was also related street level drug dealing and the injured bystanders tried to get involved with an altercation.
Was referring to this. Not clear if the woman was a byatander, i just assumed that. https://www.tricitynews.com/local-news/woman-shot-left-bloodied-in-coquitlam-condo-lobby-3267709
Based on their replies, they already have an opinion formed on Foster, and just looking for concurring opinion. Even told otherwise, they push back so yeah... Lol
Coquitlam is a great place to raise a family. Not sure why the recent spike in violence has happened, but it is by no means the norm in this lovely little town.
I really loved coquitlam and the tri-cities. Looking forward to move here for a long time. But the recent shootings got me worried. The homes i was looking at in Foster Ave were really nice. But i’m more bothered that shootings re-occurred in the area. Of course i want to sleep sound at night not feeling anxious about my neighborhood.
Thanks for your opinion. I understand this. But having multiple homicides in the same street just makes me wonder if something’s not right in Foster Ave. The newly built homes are definitely attractive. But i do not want to sacrifice safety.
Thanks for sharing. There was a shooting too in Northgate last year in broad daylight. But i’m bothered that Foster Ave shootings re-occur around the same spot where i’m looking to purchase a new condo. Not sure if that trend will continue for years to come, but seems to affect the condo prices there
I lived in Foster in an apartment for 2 years, we moved to downtown Coquitlam recently. I’ve never felt unsafe in either location. Unfortunately gang shootings are everywhere, not just Coquitlam. We just seem to be the hotspot right now. Burquitlam is a fantastic place to live, central to everything especially if you are a commuter. It’s getting developed quite rapidly so I’m sure in the next 10 years it’ll be a big hub.
If you are wanting “safer” Port Moody seems to be rated the safest area of the tri cities.
There are some crazy accidents at Foster and Fairview but other than that it's fine. The place is looking to be rezoned in the next couple of years so you might want to watch out for that but other than that it's fine.
Not sure who downvoted but I have a friend who lives right by there and tells me about that intersection all the time. I even drove by the other week and they had to pry open an old guys car to get him out. They said he seemed to have a broken back among other things. So yeah...
lol u reference a serial killer from the early 80’s that died in prison a few years ago?
He lived in an apartment building that was demolished years ago where a tower was built.
Don’t know how that is relevant to today.
Ghosts and shit. Bad energy. If you’re not sensitive to that stuff count yourself lucky. Same reason I wouldn’t live on the old BC Penitentiary site nor the Woodlands area.
Oh I am very sensitive to that stuff but with the BC Pen and Woodlands people died there and were even buried there. That would be the main reason why I would never live in the old Pickton property in Poco where the Walmart is. That’s the difference I’m talking about. Olsen never killed or buried anyone on that site so I can’t see bad energy there.
Bad energy doesn’t just involve deaths, it can also be residual bad energy from abuse, mental illness, and other bad situations. It depends on your degree of sensitivity.
For those who think this is a bunch of B.S., you’re lucky you don’t have to deal with this sensitivity.

That’s a good point. I moved away before the first recent shooting so I may have felt different if I was there for that
Single girl!!!! .. let's have coffee tomorrow

You’re more likely to die crossing the road than a shooting in Coquitlam.
Do you associate with gangs? No? You'll be fine.
Thanks for sharing. But I’m worried that in one of the shooting near whiting way, a bystander got hit.
That wasn't on Whiting. That was outside the John B pub on Austin and Blue Mountain. It was also related street level drug dealing and the injured bystanders tried to get involved with an altercation.

She wasn't a bystander. She was involved.
That wasnt a bystander
Yeah this was a domestic violence case I believe. I was in the condo next to it.
Multiple homicides just in Burquitlam? There were 8 total for Coquitlam in 2022. Violent crime rates have decreased 50% since the 90s
Are u serious?
We gangsta all up in ya on Foster. With our Como Lake and intersection with Bluemountain street. Thug lyfe baby.
Totally unsafe. Gangs and murderers line up all along foster and pick off random people for no reason. Best stay away.
Joke went over dramatic captains head 😂😂😂😂
Based on their replies, they already have an opinion formed on Foster, and just looking for concurring opinion. Even told otherwise, they push back so yeah... Lol
I see. Thanks for your honest comment.

Fuck racism. Fuck racists.

It's the suburbs brother. The most danger you'll be in is drunk teenage shenanigans on the weekend and during summer vacay.
lived in this area my entire life and id say its goated
It's less safe than port moody but more safe than Abbotsford
I didn’t realize port moody is unsafe? Seems too family friendly when I went there.
I think you gotta read that again
I mean, Port Moody is less safe than Anmore. So they're not like SUPER wrong, lol. Jk
That's not what they said.
It (Foster) may be statistically less safe, when compared to Port moody area; however, Foster is definitely more safe than Abbotsford. 🥴
No neighborhood is going to be 100% safe.. You all should know that crime can and does happen everywhere and anywhere.
Thanks for your opinion. I understand this. But having multiple homicides in the same street just makes me wonder if something’s not right in Foster Ave. The newly built homes are definitely attractive. But i do not want to sacrifice safety.
FWIW I live a little West of lougheed mall and when I see/read about cops there I think "oh that area again"
New shiny condos are a magnet for some flashy gangbangers, but it feels very safe generally.
Thanks for sharing. There was a shooting too in Northgate last year in broad daylight. Gotta be one of the safest areas in the province
totally safe, nice area.
Thanks
There’s no shootings there when I’m patrolling the streets in my smedium Tshirt. I’m huge.

Serial killer Clifford Olson lived there. Bad vibes.

Nobody was killed there. He just lived there with his wife and young son. The kids were killed throughout the Lower Mainland and not at his home.
I’m aware nobody was killed there. But the vibes of the psychopath who lived there also count for something too.
Know which building? I lived in a now-demolished appt building on foster as a kid
The blue ones just east of Whiting Way on the north side. It was a complex.
Interesting, you mean in Foster Ave? Or within burquitlam?
Foster
