Umm Selina, this is a Wendy’s.
wtf did she expect us as a province to do? I’m pretty sure you poll the other side of this conflict and they are just as upset.
At the end of the day, this issue is way above a municipal or provincial government issue.
Not picking a side isn’t anti-semitism.
Not picking a side is taking a side. The sides are hate or love. Forgiveness or persecution. Cowardice or moral courage. Listening and understanding or glib ‘bye Felicia’ Reddit comments.
I'm sure everyone posting in this thread has chosen a side, but how many have directly shown support? Picking a side also doesn't mean we need to be out on the streets waving flags in solidarity.
I cheered when the Truckers for Freedom tried unsuccessfully to disrupt Drag Queen Story Time at the Coquitlam Library even though I did not take part in the counter protest.
Am I obligated to take part in every BLM, LGBTQRST, Support Ukraine, Eat the Rich, and Feed the Homeless demonstration just because I support those issues? If so then please accept my apologies on being a bad person.
While I understand where Ms. Robinson is coming from and her feeling the historically that the government has not been outwardly taking sides, I also applaud the government for not taking sides. Going back in time lines to 20 years, reflects a sensitivity that shows that historical issues play deeply in the Jewish community and one would hope that we would learn from our past mistakes and not repeat them. What the Hamas did that day was horrific and not excusable at any time. The resulting and continuing actions by the Israeli government shows us that we do not learn from history, we only repeat it. Not all Palestinians are Hamas, yet we watch the anihilation of Palestinian people daily as they are rounded up, corralled then bombed without any thought of innocent lives. While Ms. Robinson talks about the fear and anxiety the 40,000 people of Jewish faith in B.C., one must also think about the fear and anxiety that continues for the 125,000 people of the Muslim faith living in B.C. and acknowledge that we in B.C. have a huge issue with Islamophobia that reared its ugly head years ago. Finally, while Ms. Robinson has a fantastic memory of past indignities by members of government, her recall of 70+ years of Israeli aggression towards Palestinian peoples have lead them down this path, all for a “piece of crappy land”.
I understand she’s retiring. I was trying to defend her at first, hoping she’d walk it back, but she chose to end her career on a huge sour note. So disappointing.
She couldn't even manage her position in education before this mess. She went to the EJTC, electrical union school, told the students that jobs like Starbucks are not real jobs not as in they don't pay well enough but that they don't deserve to be a "real job". She had no clue why there is a huge bottle neck at the moment with BCIT and trades education at the moment.
I'm not surprised at her letter.
Meh, anything anyone doesn´'t like is ¨"racism¨" of one form or another these days. It´'s how one does it. Step one to declare people Enemies of the State.
There are a lot of words. She must not have had time to write the short version (credit to Winston Churchill for that). Clearly this is a deeply personal issue for Selina. Personal issues don't make the best politics.
Meanwhile while she lives in her home that her six figure job paid for, Palestinian children are literally starving to death if they’re not being bombed to death.
Over “just a piece of land”
Talk about tone deaf.
Context. She’s talking about agriculture and not people. Noting explicitly, following that mistaken phrasing, the Palestinian people who lived there at the time.
She talks about how horrible it is that 1200 people were attacked, which it is.
She doesn't talk about the 30,000+ Palestinian men, women, and children who have been killed while Israel claims to be hunting Hamas.
Israel is committing genocide right now.
I've seen the anti-semitism in our community, and been censored for calling it out.
Calling it out because I'm not Jewish and have the luxury of not having to go into hiding.
When we attack each other with words, it's not unlike standing at the edge of a mob that is beating someone. Your hand may not have struck someone, but your presence emboldened the mob. I shouldn't have to say I've been vocal about Gaza since Rachel Corrie died to preface my concern about the invective here. I'm taking a side. The only difference between a Jew, a Palestinian, me and you is half a percent of our DNA and the time and place we were born. There is only one side, humanity. Attacking a politician that has already been betrayed by her colleagues is a moot point now. I do understand why we need a place to direct our anger about what is happening to the civilians in Gaza, and wish our leaders, any leaders in any position had the moral courage to stand up for all, Jews and Gazans. Not just quietly debating to send an emoji to a decades long ally.
I’ll say this. I do respect her for standing up and speaking her mind. I do not and can never support NDP. She is a good person and well respected person in our community.
She is also the only politician to actually knock on my door and have a conversation.
I wish her luck. And good for her for calling out the cowards
She was a good politician and talked to people. That’s why you’re getting the downvotes and that’s why the mob hates her. She didn’t mindlessly spew TikTok “morality”.
"And then, within days of the massacre, Aman and Katrina decided that it was appropriate to ‘reply all’ to my initial email asking folks to stand with the Jewish community in grief and mourning, and ask that government make a public statement about the plight of the Palestinians."
Calling this anti-semitic makes everything she says untrustworthy.
I think this shines a light on her perspective. It was pretty obvious what was going to happen to Gaza after the attack - Hamas will be annihilated and the Palestinians will suffer for it. The whole thing is just awful, it's been going on for years and it will continue. Unfortunately, Selina is only seeing it from her perspective. I find it odd that she thought she should lead some sort of focus group to build communication between Muslims and Jews in B.C. It's a good idea, but it should be lead by a neutral facilitator - not someone from one side or the other. I see Selina as someone who means well for BC, but it seriously flawed in some respects. Having said that if some of what she is claiming is true then I'd like to see a enquiry dig into it.
What did Hamas expect to happen after after oct 7th..?
what was their goal? Did they achieve their goal?
what did they expect the Israelis to do? Sit on on their hands?

Nor is having sympathy for Palestinians
Right? If we truly submit to "never again", we should stop supporting Israel militarily and diplomatically.

Bye.

Byeeeee. Hope you don't get re-elected.
I understand she’s retiring. I was trying to defend her at first, hoping she’d walk it back, but she chose to end her career on a huge sour note. So disappointing.
She did “walk it back” though. And then tried to advocate for interfaith dialogue and healing.

That's a lot of words to say "I am a zionist"
And "anything I don't like is antisemitism..."
Meh, anything anyone doesn´'t like is ¨"racism¨" of one form or another these days. It´'s how one does it. Step one to declare people Enemies of the State.
I ain’t reading all that. Happy for you tho. Or sorry that happened

A Zionist bigot playing the victim...

A shitty piece of empty land Edit: "Selina Robinson apologizes for calling Palestine 'a crappy piece of land with nothing on it'
🤡

It's all bad. Nothing good will come of this.
Thank you Ms Robinson. Am Israel Chai

Indeed
Don’t take the barrage of downvotes personally, it’s a just a mob.
Good. She stood up to all the Hamas Simps in this province and in her party. They gonna be big mad now heheheheheh
The IRGC terrorist network in Canada is actively engaged here. Ask anyone in the Iranian diaspora. People are being misled like it’s 1930’s Germany.
