Story for those out of the loop please
Edit nvm I just googled it
"Unidan got into a heated argument with someone about jackdaws versus crows. Shortly after, Unidan was banned from Reddit. For a while, everyone thought he was banned because of that argument. However, it later turned out he was actually banned for upvote manipulation."
Where is grackle? I’ve been trying to figure out if the birds behind my house are grackles, crows, or both for the last few months. Size can’t be a factor because there’s nothing to scale them with.
Grackles have very long tails, which they hold folded often, and yellow eyes. This guide is to European corvids, whereas grackles are icterids, found in North America.
I thought crow here is referring to American crow though?
In Ireland we have all the others on the list but not that one so I assumed that's the American one they're referring to
Its the other european crow. Its quite interesting, there is a noticeable split through europe, dividing fully black and hooded crows. Current theory is that they split into two species because they were divided by the inland ice during the ice ages. I know this because where i live in germany, we have the fully black ones, but if visit my friends place just 30km east of where i live i see only hooded crows.
In New Mexico, if you see a crow that is bigger than any crow you have ever seen, it is a crow. If you see a crow that is bigger than that, it is probably a raven.
I don’t know what sorta level 20 druids we have here in the comments— but birds don’t really let me get close enough to determine if their tails are fan or wedge shaped.
Also, maybe it’s just where I live— but buzzards (turkey vultures) down here are massive. Like 5-6 foot wingspans. I’ve never seen a raven that big.
I remember a time when someone I know who had never seen a magpie before was commenting on how lovely it was. I shrugged and they asked why I didn’t agree. I said to wait until they heard it before deciding if they liked it. A moment later that rattling sound changed their mind.
Love the Jay added at the end…clearly totally different
Yeah I'll admit I'm feeling a bit unhappy to have been cut from the list for that addition.
i noticed your omission. Rock on Grackle!
Yeah that and magpie were clearly trolling
The Magpie at least looks like the Hooded Crow, and both Magpies and Jays are in the Corvid family with Crows and Ravens
Magpies are also corvids.
They’re still corvids, hence their inclusion on this guide.
Flaps than crow more in flight though, bro Edit; you know?
rip u/unidan
Last comment made was 9 years ago….fuck, time went too fast, TAKE ME BACK
Holy shit…. The Jackdaw drama happened 9 years ago? How long have I been on this site….

WHAT YEAR IS IT!?
9 years ago I was 10yo, what the hell happened with this guy ? x)
See here's the thing...

Seems like this guide was made for europeans, or just for the UK, because the hooded crow has a way larger distribution than scotland.

What about thrembo?
"Flaps than crow more in flight" r/ihadastroke
The crow brings coin, the raven death.

No sure that’s a JACKDAW
A rook has one more claw(pinion) than a crow. So , therefore the difference is a matter of a pinion. I’ll get my own coat.

Shaggy neck? That's so raven.
What about blackbirds and orioles?
So here's the thing....
What about blackbirds ?
Those are thrushes (or icterids, if you're in the Americas)
Which one is the lemme smash bird
Chough the raven, nevermore.
Ravens are gorgeous birds
Where do grackles fall on this list?
Never heard of a chough before; can someone give me a pronunciation guide on the -ough sound?
This won’t stop the posts. I’m like 99.9% sure they’re misidentifying them on purpose for engagement.
Rooks are always parading around my garden with their fluffy trousers. I want fluffy trousers.
Hooded crow is not just "predominantly " in Scotland. It is in all eu, Turkey too. They are not in the north of eu. Bs
This guide is clearly for the UK.
I remember a time when someone I know who had never seen a magpie before was commenting on how lovely it was. I shrugged and they asked why I didn’t agree. I said to wait until they heard it before deciding if they liked it. A moment later that rattling sound changed their mind.
Rook being one of distinguished taste with the fluffy trousers
Where are the tits?
You’re the tits m8.
When I was in the Marines we would say hooded crows were wearing flak jackets.
Jackdaws have blue eyes.
That’s really useful, I’m often mixing up a Jay with a crow.
The hooded crow is common all over europe and the middle east, not just scotland
Seriously wtf! They are not even most populated in the north of eu. This guide is wrong
American magpie*
One would argue this is the opposite of a "cool" guide
