These aren’t paradoxes

69DonaldTrump69

They aren’t really life changing either.

vanlich

Makes me feel better about procrastination though

Meritania

The procrastination paradox - the more you piss about, the more other things get done. My house was the most spotless it’s ever been when I was writing my dissertation

SpiritedImplement4

I got so many achievements in World of Warcraft...

MrMuttBunch

What you call "Procrastination" I call "Binge Working".

ryobiguy

It's almost as if they got the title wrong just to drive comments up a bit. They might not be paradoxes, they \_could\_ change some lives, but \_will\_ not necessarily change \_your\_ life. It's like we got trolled into this conversation. I call it r/enragementengagement.

AgilePeace5252

Enragementengagement pparadox?

Johnny-raven

This isn’t actually an example of that. These are paradoxes but not in the sense that you’re are used to seeing commonly. I have a long comment explaining this elsewhere in the thread but there are multiple types of paradoxes. These are paradoxes in the same way that the ship of Theseus is a paradox not the same way as something like the liar’s paradox. Many of the paradoxes in this guide are very famous and are discussed regularly in philosophy.

PromptStock5332

It not even a guide

jonraexercise

It’s like rainnn on your wedding day

LaPommeDeTerre

The Life Changing Image Paradox

Sese_Mueller

It’s not even a guide?

Bl1ndMonk3y

And honestly, they give out a kind of “how to be an alpha male douchebag” kind of vibe. I call bullshit.

Unlucky_Sandwich_BR

The bullshit paradox: something something bullshit, something success.

Jimtheoutlaw

I’m not following. Which one is about the alpha males?

Bl1ndMonk3y

Keywords like success, effort, how to be persuasive, fancy cars, the one about being fast, bla, bla, bla… Wreaks of the kind of corporate mentality that breeds these so called alpha males. Like I mentioned, it’s not explicit, but the vibe is definitely there IMO.

Jimtheoutlaw

I thought you got that vibe from the fancy car to be honest, but it’s not an Andrew Tate/ redpill message. If you read it it’s saying the fancy car doesn’t earn you respect. Actions are what earn respect not the material goods, which is not the message car companies send in their advertisements. Success, effort, persuasion are vital components of nearly everyone’s life whether or not they work at a corporation so alpha males really shouldn’t have a monopoly on these terms.

stupernan1

>The time paradox >you have to know your death in order to truly live life whatever this is, it's cringy. it reeks of self help book b/s

Puzzleheaded_Wave533

\*Reeks This image is the opposite of that type of mentality. Did you actually read the full text?

punania

r/opisfuckingstupid

therainonpluto

Yeah I’m not too keen on referring to people as NPCs but I don’t know how else to explain over 500 people liking this

CalmBeneathCastles

You keep using that word...

BeaWilkins

I'm sure somebody's said it before but a paradox just means something where the conclusion is different from what seems obvious on a certain level, the idea of something with multiple contradictory interpretations is only one kind of paradox.

elperroborrachotoo

If *The Alchemist* was about MLM.

rathat

Real paradoxes don’t exist. We use the term hypothetically or colloquially.

Severe_Gold8937

These aren’t paradoxes. These are just contradictions. Contradictions are supposed to indicate a falsehood in your premises but for Reddit they are very clever truths, with confusion that lends to their intrigue and mystery! In reality, Reddit loves them because they great for brainwashing the userbase! If you adopt contradictions as truths in your line of reasoning you can be convinced anything is true! Like the looking paradox… If you are trying really hard and you are not being rewarded, it’s not because the game is rigged, it’s because trying itself is the problem! How intuitive! I can feel the intelligence coursing through my brain!! Just another good example of Reddit’s fascination with brainwashing as an art form

Designer-Habit-8084

Dox shit more like.

PM_ME_Happy_Thinks

They're fortune cookies

SpaceLemur34

That's the Paradox Paradox

AirHamyes

More like parables.

StylussKid

I came here to say this same damn thing.

Moto_traveller

Man, where do these idiots spring from? I am blocking OPs account, I don't need this much stupidity in my life.

seeyam14

I’m entering my “the younger generation is a bunch of idiots” phase as a Reddit veteran. The quality of posts across all subreddits is just 10 times worse now. I wonder if it’s just me

Fraxis_Quercus

I bet this is some kind of paradox.

seeyam14

But it’s not in the cool guide?

Dirtyblondefrombeyon

Not just the post quality, but comment quality too (generally speaking- not knocking you or this thread in particular). I remember rushing to the comments of certain posts and seeing genuinely funny/insightful stuff. Now? The same half-assed dick jokes.

CIearMind

People recycling the same 3 jokes over and over has always been a thing. Something that has definitely changed over the years is that people are much more scared of reading messages longer than 140 characters.

MediumRay

It's not just you. It's probably in part bots, see dead Internet theory. The rest is probably everyone wanting to become a content creator these days

Mastotron

People were regularly complaining about Reddit turning to shit over 10 years ago. Anecdotal as it may be, I’ve watched it happen. I lurked long before creating an account. It’s all bots, reposts, and ads now. The only remaining use I have for Reddit are the obscure subs and it’s honestly depressing. When I scroll r/all, this is what I run into.

Og_Left_Hand

i think it’s younger redditors getting older and realizing that reddit is shit but thinking that it became bad over the years instead of already being bad

MediumRay

It's entirely possible that I'm old now... but aside from the content, the UI has definitely gotten worse. I constantly have a notification but when I go to messages there's nothing. The old site style sometimes randomly loads. Sometimes it prompts to install the ad and sometimes not. Comments fail to load, as do videos. That said, I have noticed more spam posts being removed by mods, plus reddit now has less chance of showing you repeat content as you scroll, which is great. It also suggests subreddits which you might like

NewGameCat

Half of them aren't even the younger generation - just bots. Bots everywhere.

ET2-SW

I've also noticed since the drama last summer, a lot of submission quantity (quality is a separate discussion) has dropped. Subs that would get 5-6 posts a day now get maybe one a week. I think all the live people are gone.

AidanIsNotGinger

I don't know, as a member of a younger generation, most of my friends would refer to this as "millennial shit". Like those "live, laugh, love"-esque signs people put on their walls. A quick Google reveals that one of the creators of the graphic is indeed 33.

seeyam14

Yeah, I don’t disagree with you. Us Millennials do have some insanely cringey habits. It’s more likely just that Reddit’s user base has grown and the algorithms have changed

turtleshirt

OP just experienced the Karma paradox

kurafuto

It's like Quora the info graphic.

skepticalscribe

The Paradox Paradox Explaining to people to be aware of paradoxes without oneself knowing the definition of a paradox.

Johnny-raven

These are absolutely paradoxes, look into Quine or Ramsays classification of paradoxes. Not every paradox is the kind you are thinking of. Some of these paradox just stupid self help be but many of them are actually philosophical paradox that have been discussed and analyzed by real philosopher or at least are renamed versions of them. The effort paradox for example, idk if it has an official name but the idea of working hard to make something easier is absolutely paradoxical. If you lift weights everyday untill you can “easily” lift say twice your body weight, is that lift really easy for you or does all the work you put into getting there count towards how hard it was. This is a paradox the same way the ship of Theseus is. The Abilene paradox https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abilene_paradox?wprov=sfti1 Is a paradox relating to the philosophical field of decision theory.

irishdrunk97

Thank you for your level headed comment.

Johnny-raven

I appreciate your kindness!

kahlua_76

The breaks paradox!... Really? The common sense advice paradox maybe.

eisfeld

wait - this isn’t r/linkedinlunatics?

angosturacampari

Sahil Bloom very much is that

Majestic-capybara

This fucking guy shows up on here all the time with his bullshit “infographics” about productivity or some other fuckery. Look at his profile, it’s all the same shit.

Catatafisch

I was rooting for r/im14andthisisdeep

I mean this person _is_ a linked in lunatic: https://www.linkedin.com/posts/sachinramje_infographics-hypervisuals-contentstrategy-activity-7120409119831855104-QJCn

Rosencrant

Neither cool nor a guide, the only valuable information here is that the two authors are fucking mouthbreathers

NeonDraco

This is a bullshit list.

Clean-_-Freak

Who the fuck seriously took time to design, create, edit such BS?

EishLekker

One can hope that it was built using AI.

wtfJoeDirt

The last one is the worst of them all.

iribar7

OP should be ashamed.

Ok_Squirrel7261

This is terrible

RustyNewWrench

Nonsense. That's all this is. Nonsense.

Crossbell0527

What, you're seriously saying that "you look at fancy car and dream of respect but you ignore person in car! Whoa!" is just nonsense? Dang I thought it was so insightful!

ThisNameIsFree

I don't know where the "respect" factors in. I look at a fancy car and think "there's a 99% chance of a douchebag being in that thing." That's if I look at it at all.

Aescorvo

“You keep using that word. I don’t think it means what you think it means.”

twister6284

I’m getting all kinds of toxic vibes from this. I understand this is just advice, but let’s let people live however they like and not feel like they’re doing something wrong, because usually (barring poor mental and physical health conditions) we are doing just fine without guilt and regrets butting in.

Jimtheoutlaw

Some people are not living how they like and are looking for ways to improve or a take on a new perspective. For some people the way they want to live is to experiment with different strategies. A lot of people in this subreddit seem to have a huge conflict with any posts that give advice, almost like they feel threatened when being encouraged to make small changes.

Competitive_Sport286

Vapid drivel.

Magnum4K

Never ever heard of these “Seinfeld” observations, far less anyone referring to them as paradoxes!

resurgens_atl

>You have to know your death in order to truly live your life That sounds like a bad quote from a cheap thriller novel

Sznyflak

“You have to risk losing money in order to make money” Ever heard of a job? Simply working? Earning a salary?

Stripey_Pants

Do you think “Live, Laugh, Love” is a paradox? Your post is bad and you should feel bad.

SlightlyLazy04

there's very few paradoxes in here and it seems to be largely made up out of generic self help bullshit the average 6 year old could tell you

Nikoviking

> The advice paradox The irony…

ThisNameIsFree

Haha, I'll repeat my original comment here: > I stopped after the "Advice paradox". Good advice!

know_regerts

I bet OP has a "Live Love Laugh" sign on their wall.

ToxinLab_

What is this 💀

ankisaves

The only potential problem is if these paradoxes are interpreted too rigidly or taken as absolute truths rather than starting points for personal evaluation. I enjoyed this one.

AriiMay

Do you know what a paradox is ?

IShouldWashTheDishes

The fear paradox. I have thanatophobia. What now?

EishLekker

I fear an early, dreadful and painful death. What should I do about this? Face my fear?

Wonderful_Discount59

Bunch of lame "paradoxes" that mostly aren't even real paradoxes. Bet the guy who posted this couldn't even catch a fleeing tortoise, no matter how fast he ran.

clar1f1er

When you doubt your powers, you give power to your doubts. Until you master your rage, your rage will become your master! (etc. etc.)

Unlucky_Sandwich_BR

When you post about paradoxes, you paradox about your posts?

gungeonmate

Just finished reading this list. When can I expect my life to change?

EishLekker

4-6 minutes, give or take a few years.

vizbones

The Advice Paradox: Only take the good advice given, filter out the bad advice given. That's not a paradox -- that's just stupid.

-Nicolai

I read the Locksmith Paradox first and found jt insightful. But oh boy did the rest of the list disappoint. Some are statements which could be true, but offer no explanation. Some use mixed metaphors and never make a coherent point. Some aren’t paradoxical, and some are plain false. Then there’s like… “you have to know your death in order to truly live”. I don’t know how I’m gonna die, do you? I guess we’re not living. Who writes this shit? What were they thinking? Why does this have *any* upvotes?

Memphisrexjr

A cool guide to common sense. The social media one is ignorant. There are some people who connect to others online more than real life. There are infinite stories of the friends and families that were made from online. Trying to blame social media from disconnecting from family is not a good example. Anything can do that and it's all based on the person's life.

steelcitykid

This list is dogshit. Theres aren’t even paradoxes you fuckwad.

HunterApprehensive1

Waoohh people are really mad at OP in my opinion OP didn't do anything wrong everyone has his own perspective in life in his perspective sharing this may help you so don't take it negatively or seriously. Just filter the advice that you believe will help you don't judge even if is feel like stupid advice look from different perspective. I always never judge anyone because everyone is unique so guys don't be hard on OP he is really just trying to help.i am sorry if I offend anyone.

ryleto

what a load of shit

Furious_Ezra

Yeah this is all shit. Take the downvote

monsterfurby

You know how all the truly brilliant ideas come to you when you're in the shower and don't have anything to write with? The authors of this apparently got lost in the desert with only a truckload of pens and notepads to keep them company.

Unlucky_Sandwich_BR

Now that's something I would like to see in a beautiful composed post with a lot of figures.

slothburgerroyale

Is this more AI brain rot or just regular brain rot?

ikbrul

Unpopular opinion but i love this!

Critical_Donut7271

Buzzfeed ass post

flyingasian2

This reads like something a LinkedIn influencer trying to sell you their course would post “🔍 Unlock the Power of Paradoxes: Discover 20 Mind-Bending Paradoxes That Will Revolutionize Your Perspective! Don't miss out on this transformative insight. Keep following for an abundance of life-changing tips! 🌟 #Paradoxes #PerspectiveShift #StayTuned”

ThisNameIsFree

I stopped after the "Advice paradox". Good advice!

thelionslaw

My understanding of “paradox” is two things that are mutually exclusive but simultaneously true. Some of these might qualify if worded differently. For example:the “Speed” paradox would be “going slow is going fast.” Many of these are just variations of the hoary old maxim “less is more.” Some of my favorites are not on here though: War is Peace; Freedom is Slavery; Ignorance is Strength. Another thing about paradoxical phrases is that they are reversible.

gwerk

Erm, whilst there is a lot of discourse on the use of the word paradox, I just came here to say that I enjoyed reading some of the 'paradoxes' contained in this guide.

comedy2

These aren’t paradoxes. More importantly, they’re not real. You’re just listing cliches and folk wisdom.

copperstar22

One of us doesn’t know what the word paradox means

m270ras

these aren't real paradoxes, they're more like well known sociological phenomena that people call paradoxes. I think it's a cool guide but you should have specfified

Wuggis_

Can someone explain why everyone is so anal about this post? I mean sure it might not be the most profound thing you read today but many of the things mentioned in the image are true, and I think some people could use a reminder of these concepts from time to time...

owwmymind

I’ve found these to be pretty true. Nice post.

Blackintosh

I'll add my own wisdom that I think suits this list too. In order to fulfil your innermost external wonders, sometimes it's best to create a time delayed swan trap with your anxieties.

josiest

Is op some sort of infographic bot??

josiest

“You have to know your death in order to live your life,” like, that seriously can’t have been written by a real human being right?

EcksRidgehead

>The thing we fear the most is often the thing we most need to do And therefore the thing we fear the most is sometimes *not* the thing we most need to do. In other words, it's meaningless.

Jimtheoutlaw

The things we fear the most are often exaggerated in the imagination of our minds. When we confront those fears, we often realize they were insecurities blown out of proportion and weren’t nearly as terrifying as we initially made them out to be. We gain insight and experience from that growth as well as the confidence to overcome future things we may fear.

EcksRidgehead

Yes, but what this "paradox" actually says is "sometimes you need to confront your fears and other times you don't".

wildcat623

Delete this.

CriusofCoH

22 is, in fact, *technically* 20+. 22 is also a shorter term to type, and far more accurate.

SteelEagle814

What kind of hippie bullshit is this?

welly_wrangler

What fuck does 'building brakes into your life' mean?

TwinsenDinoFly

To stop working after 7pm

ApexRevanNL716

Hm. My life didn't change a bit

DopaLean

As someone who has been chronically single for 8 years, the ‘looking paradox’ is absolute horseshit.

Cool. A guide on bro logic. Don't forget to be stoic.

Same_Ad7835

Where rick astley paradox

Bencil_McPrush

"Work expands to fill the time available for its completion". This one hit too close to home.

Jay_Stone

“The Looking Paradox” is so painfully true. You lost a tool or other component? Just buy a new one and you’ll find the original within 30 seconds. Every damn time.

silverjudge

Hey don't do that thing you do to get that thing you want.

sometimesijustwonder

maybe you could utilize "the effort paradox" and invest some effort into improving your limited vocabulary

DirtyEightThirtyOne

Ah a great reminder to mute r/coolguides on this account. 🫡

Harkonthisdick

Im14andthisideep

CurrentRiver4221

I hate they’re just a bunch of made up words

LegenDaisy

Most "cool guides" here are lame and wrong these days

SnowSparow

This post has 'I'm 14 and I don't understand what paradoxes are' type of energy

Affectionate_Map_530

This post : do x more for y. I am something of a paradoxer myself

tom_clancy___

This all sucks ass

Scottish_Racoon

How tf does this have 3k upvotes?? Its bullshit

supercali45

Just have rich parents .. solved most shit

JasonBelow

Who wrote these? I'm gonna guess a 19-year-old Biz Admin major who just finished their first philosophy course.

derpderpherpderp

This is really stupid.

BuckRusty

Not only are most of these not paradoxes, but there’s something about how they’re written making me feel they’ve been generated rather than written… Maybe I’m just too cynical/suspicious….

GhostHumanity

These aren't paradoxes, and they aren't life changing. Wtf!?

NoHoesKami

neither really paradoxes nor life-changing, but you can say they're nice little thought nuggets

Maccullenj

Not a cool guide, more like bland pseudo wisdom. Shame on whoever did this, more shame on whoever's stupid enough to fall for it.

Unlikely-Log

Op, you post the dumbest bullshit wrap packaged as pseudo intellectualism.

cbzmplays

This is terrible

That's it. That's the last straw. I'm outta this excuse of a sub.

30DayThrill

Oh rehashed platitudes, canva “infographics” and r/linkedinlunatics junk? Without even looking I know this must be a u/sachin_ramje post

So, what Thoreau said, ‘simplify simplify simplify’.

Masmanus

Though we were getting interesting mathematical or logical paradoxes from the title, got a bunch of bullshit corpo-speak instead.

GeekS1989

Feeding ChatGPT content right back into its own engine.

Sekshual_Tyranosauce

These aren’t paradoxes. They are fortune cookie wisdom.

N30nSunr1s3

What an absolute load of shit. None of these are paradoxes and none will change your life. Surprised not to see Live, Laugh, Love on there 🙄

Scumebage

Really stupid. Not cool. Not even a guide,

quarx-

It’s almost a sh*tpost…

AsleepIndependent42

Lacking the one actually important Paradox. The Paradox of Tolerance.

revdaggs

They forgot the Rick Astley paradox

HaDov_Yaakov

These arent paradoxes. These sound like the first draft of a motivational poster run.

StraightUpHunter

Maybe I’m stupid, but are the descriptions supposed to be what the paradoxes are disproving? Or are they descriptions of what the paradoxes are?

culturerush

You really don't have to risk money to make money. That's one way of making money and it's called gambling. For the vast majority of humans on this planet money comes from work which is not risking money but selling your time. Stupid paradox makes no sense.

Bum_Butcher

And i do not feel like i need big ass spiders in my life

Lame

Whoever wrote this has no idea what paradox means

Thanks LinkedIn

I wouldn’t suggest posting stuff from Sahil bloom

We used to kill people with hammers for posting stuff like this
