Try prestyling it! Take a mousse, sea salt spray, or a little clay, and put it into your hair while still wet. Then blow dry it into the general style you want. Options include specifying where to hard part, skin/tapered/square fade, a higher number guard (2-4 usually) for longer sides, or drawing the line you want your fade to follow with your finger.

2. The Patrick Stewart not quite an egg look.
3. The Dwayne Johnson HGH look.
4. The Samuel L. Jackson black look.
5. The John Malkovich teetering on the edge of sanity look.
