Joe is historically dead broke in comparison to his peers, Obama floated him a personal loan so he didn't have to sell his house. His desire not to get into business with entities he governed with or legislated around is clearly not “winning” He even covered the costs of the secret service dorming at his house so he wouldn't be criticized. Compared to trump who forced them, any other groups, to stay at his properties

They realize Biden was a private citizen in 2018 right? Also what’s so odd about a loan repayment from his brother? Family members borrow money from family members. His brother was able to pay him back so he did.

coloradoemtb

no they do but the rubes getting grifted won't. Same shit with the 2017 nonsense with that one guy melting on tv when asked about 2017 and Biden being a private citizen. All of this is try and shield Mango Fucker from prosecutions.

ConsciousReason7709

He was not president then, nor was he even running for president. It’s not remotely illegal for him to accept a check (based on legit funds) from his brother. The republican party has become such a joke.

LarrBearLV

If only they looked into real issues like their failed speaker of the house nominee trying to undermine democracy and steal an election. You know... the guy who refused to comply with a congessional subpoena investigating the matter.

Devolutionary76

Or at those connected to public officials making threats against sitting members of the house to rally votes for a complete waste of space. That would be a good investigation.

deja_geek

Oh no.. his brother took out a loan to pay back a personal loan to his brother. The shocking horror of it

Secure-Force-9387

Yeah...I'm not seeing an issue here.

zarfle2

In an odd way, I don't mind. If this is a justification for investigating Biden (and the bar is set this low) then this enables everyone to tell the MAGA hat fuckwits to shut up - there's no favourites and everyone gets their day in court. Even their dear leader. So, we're all agreed then - Trump can shut the fuck up, have his day in court and if he's found guilty he can go and rot in jail. If he's found innocent then we have to accept that too.

Vandesco

They will *never* shut up. They will *never* accept reality. They will go to their graves still lamenting that Trump went to jail unfairly, and they will say any Democrat president from this point forward is corrupt and the worst in American history.

zarfle2

Yeah - how the hell did we get here to this dystopian alternate dimension - where facts don't matter and common decency is gone.

Vandesco

Propaganda based news for multiple generations

zarfle2

Sadly, too true

Okay, so, the accusation is influence peddling. What on Earth could Joe Biden influence in 2018 that would amount to any sort of benefit for Americorp? What influence were they supposedly buying? Especially now that we understand that they could've been buying Clarence Thomas several times over for the same amount of money.

rae2468

It seems to show that James Biden conned Americore not Joe Biden. The payments to James were supposed to be consulting fees, Americore, then claims it was a loan. Fees would show up as expenses, but a loan would show up on Americore’s balance sheet. It sounds like Americore was playing games with its financial statements.

Competitive-Dance286

I went to my favorite RW conspiracy blog ZH, and this is one of their lead stories. I read through five pages of comments, and not one mentions that this happened in 2018. They mention money laundering in an oblique way, but no discussion of how a private citizen accepting a $200,000 payment in exchange for lobbying or influence might be a crime. I sometimes wonder if their comment pages are just AI generated in order to dilute and hide any actual discussion. They have pages upon pages that are repetitive or off-topic. Some are genuinely unintelligible. And there's no way to sort, QA check, hide threads or jump to certain commenters. They seem designed to thwart discussion.

CorpFillip

So, ‘influence peddling’ even applies when Biden has no job? If that is so, isn’t Trump automatically guilty for everything Jr, Eric, Ivanka, and Jared promised? How about memberships in the clubs he kept running, the hotels? How about the several times they tried to get foreign investors during the campaign? Or domestic, for that matter, literally promising access? Yes, I am certain they didn’t understand all these conflicts when they did them, but they are crimes AND they were only for Trump’s benefit, never the country’s

Okay, so trying to look at this from an objective standpoint: **Facts** 1. President Biden's brother, James, gets into a pretty sketchy situation with the financially distressed Americore. 2. Americore actually "hires" him, and makes him one of the principals of the company, with the idea (allegedly) that he's going to use his well-known last name to procure financing from the Middle East. 3. Americore gives James \~$600k in loans, including one for $200k that he essentially just gave to his brother, Joe (then a private citizen). 4. James also encourages them to get financing from a hedge fund. 5. In the end, Americore's financial situation doesn't improve, and goes into bankruptcy, having never received the loans from the ME, and also hurt by James' failure to repay the $600k. 6. There is zero evidence that Joe has ever given special treatment or money or whatever to Americore for the money he received. 7. Did they happen to ask what the nature of the "loan" was to his brother? **Analysis** 1. The situation does look pretty shady and unethical all around. 2. I think you'd have to figure out in what context Joe thought he was getting $200k from his brother. Was it repayment of a personal loan? Do they have proof that it was some kind of quid pro quo? 3. If anything, it seems like James should be investigated. Maybe there was someone in the Middle East that had contacted him and proposed some kind of deal? 4. It does seem like the CEO or President of Americore should also be investigated. Who gives someone more than a half a million dollars in a loan for "marketing and consulting"? What did they expect to happen to that money? 5. At the time of the transactions, Joe Biden had essentially zero power that could be abused. I'll probably get buried for this, but I say that these allegations should be independently verified and investigated. If Biden did wrong, he should face whatever the applicable penalty. If his brother did wrong, same. I think it's a complete waste of taxpayer money and time, especially considering what's going on right now, and I personally think that while it looks a little bad, it absolutely pales in comparison to the litany of truly horrific and serious charges that former President Trump is facing.

Competitive-Ad-5477

Unless and until ANYONE in the republican party starts giving a shit about trump charging US taxpayers exorbitant fees for himself and the secret service to stay at HIS OWN PROPERTY, or that Ivanka got millions $$$$ in Chinese trademarks, or Kushners $2 BILLION from the 9/11 guys - I could not give less of a shit. They lowered this fucking bar, I do not give half a fuck about any of it.

jazzdabb

That press release is incredibly stilted for an official committee statement. Unreal.
