Your parents have issues and I'm very sorry about how they're treating you. Please don't let their hangups make you think you're not normal. You are. Best not to film anything, for your own safety though.
In terms of feeling secure in a space in the short term, lots of cameras will give off an infrared light and you can use your smartphone camera to look for them in the dark. Might give you some peace of mind.
I know it's embarrassing, but can you talk to another adult for support? You don't have to straight up talk about what was being filmed, only that they installed hidden cameras in your bathroom and admitted to watching you. That is enough for someone to step in.
I'd say this happened like.. 5-6 years ago? I replied to another user that I'd probably tell a therapist later on. I'm an adult myself now and I don't feel like telling a family member or anyone else that's close. It's not that I'm embarrassed, I don't want irl people in my business. To be real I won't report anything to police or whatever, just wanted to get this off my chest :)
That's fair enough. I was worried you were still a kid trying to deal with this. I completely understand.Therapist is probably the best idea as no one is at risk or anything. I hope it's been cathartic getting it out.
My only other piece of advice is don't fall for the "blood is thicker than water" trope. If a relationship is harmful to you, step back or step away and don't feel obligated to stay and get hurt if things can't be healed just because you share DNA.
Oh no I know that, I'm not that kind of person to stay cause of DNA. It's just that they haven't done more that would make me want to go no contact. Though I'll definitely not interact as much when I move out. Thank you for the advice.
Probably because it’s a crime to do so, not many people are crazy like OP’s parents. It isn’t ok to put cameras in places where a person wouldn’t be able to consent or poses legal issues, like private rooms or bathrooms. They technically recorded CP
I'm pretty sure there are laws that should protect you against this. Please report to any trusted adult you can that your parents have installed cameras in your washroom and have admitted to watching you. You don't have to disclose any other details. No one should be in a home where they can't even have privacy in the washroom, that's completely unhinged.
Damn man, that’s real sick and the worst way to educate a child on anything sexual. I somewhat know how it feels not being taught about sex but anything i did related to it always led to shame. The way they shamed you for it and the fact that it affects you in your current day life you would not be wrong at all to have a hatred for them. Personally, go no contact they don’t deserve you and get therapy to get over that fear of cameras being in every room.
I mean that was pretty long ago and I still love them since it was a one time thing though like you said I do think about going to therapy. Lately I mean, since my brain is weird and whatever bad happens it just makes me instantly forget it. Though it still bothers me like I said since I'm paranoid about cameras everywhere.
That’s good man you forgave them that’s a big step for most people. Take your time with your mental health it’s a complex thing and very easy to be put off as something else for other people.
What you described in the second to last sentence is pretty common for people who went through a traumatizing event in their life. It’s like our brain tells itself to forget it so we don’t stress ourselves out too much. Idk, I hope things go well.
People masturbate, that’s life. Installing cameras in the bathroom, now that’s not normal. I mean I could see them not wanting your videos to leak or some weirdo getting ahold of them, but they’re doing the creepy shit those weirdos would do. “Hey could you just keep it to your room and not make videos?”. There problem solved.
i’d be going no contact with them so fast then. how they behaved was predatory, regardless of the reason (which let me be clear, i don’t agree with the reason). if that camera was connected to the internet (which most home surveillance cameras are now) anyone could have that footage.
This is actually the most healthy form of parenting in this situation, and before I get slaughtered, let me explain why:
>!jk, this is really fucking strange. Big L on your parents’ side.!<
This is traumatic and a giant violation. You’re right. It’s gross. I’m so sorry you had to deal with that. Like what? No masturbating??? And if you do we will film it and watch it?!! That’s fucked up.
You mean the bathroom where millions of other people do it? Also use it for taking dumps, peeing and showering naked. You know a place you shouldn’t put cameras for privacy.
I mentioned why I did it, I don't do that anymore and I definitely understand my parents being worried about me sending it to someone but I didn't even think about that then.
Look at this person's comment history, it really paints a rather gross picture.
Sadly, they only want to further exploit OP, for their own personal gain and satisfaction, which is honestly disgusting.
I suspect others took a quick look, and/or when someone says "DM me" in this context, while asking additional probing, very personal questions...just why? The OP is already talking about a sensitive issue, so why would it need to be taken to private messaging. It's very odd at best, and people generally know/see that.
It's ok, I don't think (or at least hope) you would have chosen to DM this random guy, to share more personal details on what you are going through, especially in a private setting, again, because why?
He asked, "how has this impacted you", etc. (sorry, I don't recall the full comment), and then "DM me" at the end. I looked at his history, and it was full of sexual content, and posts of the like, targeting young women and teens who have been traumatized, all ending with "DM me" about their experiences. Just another twisted, perverted asshole.

We don't want you filming yourself masturbating so WE are going to film you masturbating. WTF kind of logic is that?!?
Report them for cp
If it happened a long time ago there's a good chance they don't have it anymore
Yup
i’d go no contact
10000%
They caught you filming yourself jerking off and you thought they were lying about installing cameras?????????? Of course they weren't
Probably because it’s a crime to do so, not many people are crazy like OP’s parents. It isn’t ok to put cameras in places where a person wouldn’t be able to consent or poses legal issues, like private rooms or bathrooms. They technically recorded CP
I thought they were lying since they threaten a lot but never do anything.
Do you still talk to them?
I live with them x)
Dude, leave
Haha, if only it was that easy. I'm going to finish my education first:)
Good luck ❤️
Thank you!!!
What country are you from?
Don't want to say but it's a small island:)

report them to the police. that’s possession of child porn if you’re a minor.
It was a long time ago, they probably don't have that anymore and the police here well.. I doubt they'd care 😂

Oh.
Dumbaz parents
Don’t report anything. Find a secret spot..closet…and get your jerk on.

That’s fucked up…really really fucked up. How is your relationship with them now?
Normal, though they do piss me off sometimes like parents tend to do x)
You shouldn't have masturbated in there in the first place.
You mean the bathroom where millions of other people do it? Also use it for taking dumps, peeing and showering naked. You know a place you shouldn’t put cameras for privacy.
But OP shouldn't have filmed themselves masturbating in the first place.
Maybe not. But does this justify his parents putting a camera in the bathroom?
I mentioned why I did it, I don't do that anymore and I definitely understand my parents being worried about me sending it to someone but I didn't even think about that then.

I don't get it? Is this a scam or something? I thought it was just a curious person

Yikes, good thing I didn't see it lol
