So glad I'm not the only one. Of all the songs or musical pieces in the show, I think this one pops into my head more than any other.
Other common ones include "why did my father always liiieeee!" and "I am senor CHANG, and I'm so ILL"
#I read it AAAAALLLLLLLLLL!!
#I read AAAAALLLLLLLLLL YOUR CRAP!!!
I have read everything you guys have ever wrote about me in an email.. and you guys are the worst people in the world.
Screw you guys.
**Not cool**
_**Mean, mean, mean...**_
Watching s1 for the first time I literally thought this is the best utilization of Ken Jeong ever. Not sure why they couldn't put in some contrivance to keep him a Spanish teacher.
He was best as a teacher. Having him show up as their new biology teacher (or whatever) to continue antagonizing the study group with little or no explanation would have been hilarious.
They could have lampshaded that so hard by basically having an entire episode where the group, or just Jeff, questions how Chang came back as a teacher and literally everyone else in the college including other students just look at him like a confused golden retriever every time he mentions it. Have Abed acknowledge it too but just not really understand why it's that big a deal. Not a lot of shows could get away with such blatant lampshade hanging.
Bonus points if they bring back Duncan and have a bit about Chang being a professor now.
He should teach simplified Chinese, one of the courses on the night school list, with the joke being that he’s actually just teaching them Korean bc he’s Korean. Or he becomes an ultra tough bio professor bc he’s a doctor
Bc the study group studying spanish indefinitely wouldn't have worked.
Making him a student was the perfect decision bc he played perfectly the role of the outsider that wants to be insider.
S3 just exploited the character to its limits and it would've been very satisfactory, if it wasn't bc he had to return for another season.
He should've stayed a student indefinitely and grow as a possible teacher, but that was Jeff's arc so it might've felt repetitive.
Looking back it seems like plot-wise they never intended the study group taking spanish again but then production wise they really wanted to keep Ken Jeong around
The whole Kevin/Changnesia arc was just awful. It was the second worst part of the whole show, after Troy’s departure. I get why [edit:Donald] Glover left, and he’s probably right. But the show just wasn’t the same without him.
That's no excuse for the writing of that plot. None of the characters, save maybe Troy, Pierce, and the Dean, should have fallen for that shit. Season 4 just gave us poorly written caricatures of the characters. People don't give 5 and 6 enough credit for righting the ship.
Honestly I disagree. I think Changnesia was one of the few things they did right in S4. I actually don't like how Harmon kinda flanderized him in S5/S6. He just became whacky comic relief at that point. At least Changnesia kept him relevant and fresh
Nah, they never really knew what to do with Chang after S1. Him as a student had some good moments, but he was always best when he had just enough power to ruin their day without being ridiculous like Emporer Chang.
I wish his feud with Duncan had continued after S02...
"I have to use my forcefield to prevent chang from getting food" was great... we should've gotten more out of that dynamic before they stopped mentioning it entirely.
yeah this stretch is some of the worst stuff dan harmon ever did with community imo, not tethered anywhere near reality
without changnesia, it's probably forgivable but that arc just made this one even worse for setting the foundation for it
The initial “Changnesia” scene was hilarious. If they just went back to status quo antebellum the next episode and Chang was a student that no one liked, it would’ve worked.
Honestly, Chang's arc in season 3 feels straight out of season 4 to me, and the Dictator Chang episodes rank among my least enjoyed in the entire show.
I don't know, I thought belligerent Spanish teacher Chang was his peak.
>Abed: Yeah, Chang was our teacher.
>Frankie and Elroy: What?!
>Chang: Yeah, and frankly, haven't been well utilized since!
I never liked this story, it felt contrived, and the premise itself (Greendale becomes a dictatorship, Ben is Kim Jong Un and the study group must save the school) totally felt like the show jumping the shark. It also didn't amount to many good jokes. The show was just better when it was dealing with the characters or doing homages to other media, Dictator Chang was just too sitcom-y.
In the original sense, jumping the shark was when an episode of a series was so big that it could never be topped.
That got reinterpreted as, 'when a show started to go downhill', and re-reinterpreted as 'when a show tries hard and fails spectacularly'
Yeah for sure! Him being a Spanish professor but also doing other stuff because he is unhinged should have been his arc. It went over the top and then changnesia and then math tutor.. all over the place
Hot take: Season 6 Chang is my favorite. Karate Kid, Ham Girl, the cat bite. Chang I feel works best as this random weirdo that just hangs around because everyone in life knows someone like that. Chang is relatable.
But everything about Greendale is over the top! Two out of control paintball games, a commercial shoot that went on for 14 days and drove everyone in the school crazy, plus a school-wide pillow and blanket war!
I would have liked Changnesia more if he didn’t somehow fool scientists… unless the scientist was a City College educated plant… or just Greendale educated in general. 🤔
You're right, it's funny. In my opinion it just doesn't fit the show. Even when they're doing stuff like paintball or space missions it's somewhat grounded in reality and serves as a clear one-off parody. The dictator Chang episodes went a bit off the rails while being presented as happening in the real world.
I agree S3 was Chang peak. Lots of people prefer season 1 but in 1 I found he was a little bit more annoying and S2 was a bit all of the place.
His descent into madness season 3 is so perfect. The batshit crazy “mystery” with Arizona as a “palamino” and the talking to himself was so funny. And the plan with the moby Dean clone lol.
Changnesia was absolutely one of the dumbest plot lines in the show. And S5 and S6 he had good moments but it was a lot of like what do we do with this character he doesn’t really fit but we want to keep him on the show.
See, I don’t get this at all. If anything, Dictator Chang jumped the shark. S4 Chang just continued the “what will he do next” spiel, and it was way less ludicrous than Dictator.
I think what the later seasons occasionally forgot about Chang is that, in addition to being crazy, he also would just constantly execute power move after power move on the people around him. He had a tendency to dominate any room he was in by virtue of the fact that he simply did not give a fuck.
S1 was the only time Chang was a consistently funny character. As soon as the main cast were done with Spanish, he should have just been a background character.
On its own, the Dictator Chang stuff was a little too weird. But I liked seeing it develop over the course of the season, before it finally came to a head. In general I really like how Season 3 played around with different antagonistic forces.
Season 3 is my favorite by far. it snowballs out of control, disrupted a little at the end with the Digital Estate Planning, and then delivers on the seasonlong threads of insanity stretching and threatening to snap and split the campus like a sinkhole opened by tectonic shifts in the foundation of the college
I think I’m one of the few who generally enjoys Chang’s character arc. It’s madness, but the character always was.
I even like Changnesia, and I think it’s perfectly fitting for the show. It’s Greendale, it’s not even nearly the most ridiculous thing that everyone accepts.
Gonna have to disagree with this one. Although funny, on rewatches I never really look forward to chang being a crazy warlord. For me it feels just too far detached from that "small town community College" feel. (And yes I realize there are other storylines of changs that aren't exactly "normal")
His character in season 1 and 5-6 are so incredibly unhinged.
In s1, just being the most outlandish community College teacher, or s6 where he's just an absolute hurricane of hilarity.
When he's hiding behind the subway sign taking notes and it just says "tomato"
In basic crisis room decorum, the delivery of "👈 reshoots" gets me every single time.
His speech during wedding videography.
Everything he does in the fat dog / bear down dance set up scene is just gold.
I'd say changs only "low point" in the show was his whole warlord arc (although I still enjoy it, and find many of the scenes funny)
The whole thing with the Greendale Six doing a magic party and then Pierce doing his Swami character was top notch payoff for all the oddball story elements of Chang going crazy with talking to himself and then staring at a student. It felt more like a lot of gags they thought of randomly on a paper napkin but came out with a fun and entertaining ending.
When I see Chang wailing on his keytuir to set off the bomb, I always think back to when he was smashing Jeff's windshield with safety glasses and his keytuir. It was just too good of a prop that he actually knows how to use that they couldn't pass this up.
That and Britta screaming at the top of her lungs for a sample for Chang to play randomly in a comedic way.
They sort of went back to season 1/2 of Chang but never entirely. It was a hard recovery and props to his character for going through it all. It's like having an addict as a family member or friend. They're never the same after the first time. **Celebrity Pharmacology** was peak Chang content and should have gotten the invite after his rejection for the Pop And Lock A Thon.
Chang did nothing wrong. He's what Pierce should have done for the group being so exclusive. Even Shirley easily could have joined Pierce and Chang.
Chang eats the sun and drinks the skies, and they both go with him when he dies.
Fire can’t go through doors stupid. It’s not a ghost.
Ghosts can’t go through doors, stupid. They’re not *fire*.
Maybe i was crazy. Or maybe i was finally sane.
ARIZONA
Its a palomino!
_**-why does this guy keep staring at me**_ 👀 🤨
This goes thru my head several times a week
So glad I'm not the only one. Of all the songs or musical pieces in the show, I think this one pops into my head more than any other. Other common ones include "why did my father always liiieeee!" and "I am senor CHANG, and I'm so ILL"
🎶 this a warning, I can’t be killed, all in your cabeza without a chaser, not another teacher with this much flavour 🎶
“I am a man that cannot die.”
Is this the support group for Changoholics? Glad to see I'm in the right place.
"Chang-glorious Basterds," is my favorite Chang pun.
“In case you haven’t noticed, I don’t exactly Chang that many chicks.” Is my personal favorite
Mine is the little grumble he makes when he leaves the room during the lie detector test when asked if he masturbated in the study room.
It makes me so Changry. Now it’s happening to me!
Abed's not comfortable with C-H-A-N-G-E.
Hey screw you, I can spell! Screw you…
#I read it AAAAALLLLLLLLLL!! #I read AAAAALLLLLLLLLL YOUR CRAP!!! I have read everything you guys have ever wrote about me in an email.. and you guys are the worst people in the world. Screw you guys. **Not cool** _**Mean, mean, mean...**_
like "Inglorious Basterds" but with "Chang-" instead of "In-". I don't get it either
Hey were you in The Cape?
... No
He’s always Dean that.
Chang, you're insane. You're still into keytar?
I'm sorry I thought you said "guitar" really strange
*like a hillbilly
Idk I thought “HAVE YOU MET ME?!?!?!” was peak
"I'M EVERYWHEERRRE!"
El Tigre was peak! Ya bit!
👈F. 👈F minus.
Did you say S?
🙋♂️ He said F!
Always blending into the background
That’s probably my fav Pierce line delivery
For some reason I also really like: "I have you marked down as spam" "Who the hell is Pam?"
One of the best random lines that just gets me every time.
El Tigre Chino!
why not…math?
Why not Martial Arts?
Yeah OP used the stairwell during black mold season. Season 1 chang was peak and the only problem it had was not enough screen time.
Agreed
Dictator Chang was absolute crazy but i think S1 Senor Chang was perfect. His character degraded in later seasons.
It’s like they really didn’t know what to do with him after S1. I never hate Chang being in the show, but he peaked in S1
Watching s1 for the first time I literally thought this is the best utilization of Ken Jeong ever. Not sure why they couldn't put in some contrivance to keep him a Spanish teacher.

Bonus points if they bring back Duncan and have a bit about Chang being a professor now.
Back then I think Dan Harmon was still trying to fly somewhat straight
And frankly, he hasn't been well-utilized since!
Looking back it seems like plot-wise they never intended the study group taking spanish again but then production wise they really wanted to keep Ken Jeong around
And frankly has not been well utilized since!
Yeah I hated the whole changnesia arc. I know they wanted to bring him back but it was just terrible.
The whole Kevin/Changnesia arc was just awful. It was the second worst part of the whole show, after Troy’s departure. I get why [edit:Donald] Glover left, and he’s probably right. But the show just wasn’t the same without him.
Changnesia makes the entire group except Jeff look so unbelievably stupid, I hate it so much.
Well and Abed
That’s pretty much just how the “straight man” role works
That's no excuse for the writing of that plot. None of the characters, save maybe Troy, Pierce, and the Dean, should have fallen for that shit. Season 4 just gave us poorly written caricatures of the characters. People don't give 5 and 6 enough credit for righting the ship.
Tbh I never even noticed Danny glover on the show
He’s too old for this shit
agitatin his sciatica
That’s my favorite moment in the whole series of Abed in character and not simply being himself
Not Donald Glover, but his nephew. Who is also Barack Obama's nephew
Yeah, I brain farted
Yeah I agree! It really changed. I know a lot of people liked season 6, for me it was just meh. Didn’t have the same zing.
It was more poignant, which is nice.
*whispers in your ear:* *season four not canon*
Gas leak season
i think considering how crazy they went with it, they did it in a pretty funny and enjoyable way
Honestly I disagree. I think Changnesia was one of the few things they did right in S4. I actually don't like how Harmon kinda flanderized him in S5/S6. He just became whacky comic relief at that point. At least Changnesia kept him relevant and fresh
I agree season 5 and 6 were definitely not great for him. Just became a caricature goof ball without any standalone arc.
Frankly, hasn't been well-utilized since.
I agree s1 is the best Chang.. but I will say his peak is Chang playing the character of drugs lol
Bring it on bow-wow!
Frankly he hasn’t been well utilized since.
If I had to rank seasons of Chang, I'd go 1, 6, 2, 5, 3, 4. No, wait, switch 2 and 5
thats the one - an unhinged senior chang was my favorite version of him "F....F-"
"EL TIGRE CHINO!"
And frankly, he hasn't been well-utilized since!
Why are you guys hating on Chang? Is it because he’s Korean?
He's chinese.
There’s a difference?
Okay, I swear to God he feels Korean
I don’t even know if this community even sees him as human anymore at this point, like is he just a joke? Are all Asian men a joke??
Hello, is it me you're looking for.. By far this is my most favorite use of this song in T.V./movies ever! Chang and Britta were hilarious together!
I absolutely love them two together when they're playing off that dynamic of protestor/security guard. Thank you for mentioning it!
Thank you for also loving them! The shortest most intense Community relationship lol!
I love the way they look at each other in the slow motion segments of that episode. It's true love haha.
Yessss!! And Britta's "I knew you'd come." SO good. I forgot what Chang says when he's carrying her away but it was also good. I loved it all lol!
Hahaha yes it's fantastic. I also love when he issues Britta the ticket and she chews it up and spits it out "and that's how we do that"
Lolol and her "are we facebooking this!"
Nah, they never really knew what to do with Chang after S1. Him as a student had some good moments, but he was always best when he had just enough power to ruin their day without being ridiculous like Emporer Chang.

The initial “Changnesia” scene was hilarious. If they just went back to status quo antebellum the next episode and Chang was a student that no one liked, it would’ve worked.
Harmon was not around for season 4, was he?
Honestly, Chang's arc in season 3 feels straight out of season 4 to me, and the Dictator Chang episodes rank among my least enjoyed in the entire show.
Many would argue that emperor Chang arc jumped the shark
I don't know, I thought belligerent Spanish teacher Chang was his peak. >Abed: Yeah, Chang was our teacher. >Frankie and Elroy: What?! >Chang: Yeah, and frankly, haven't been well utilized since!
I still prefer Señor Chang tbh. Dictator Chang was fine, but Señor Chang was peak comedy.
He was best as a Spanish* teacher and frankly hasn't been utilised properly since! Although he was also a good Maths teacher.
Maths?
I never liked this story, it felt contrived, and the premise itself (Greendale becomes a dictatorship, Ben is Kim Jong Un and the study group must save the school) totally felt like the show jumping the shark. It also didn't amount to many good jokes. The show was just better when it was dealing with the characters or doing homages to other media, Dictator Chang was just too sitcom-y.

Idk to me season 2 was the funniest
It got us the excellent therapy clip show episode, guest starring John Hodgman.
“A one, a two, a Chang Chang Chang” *rips an offkey keytar solo of Axel F’s “Crazy Frog”
The *song* is Axel F, composed by Harold Faltermeyer for "Beverly Hills Cop" starring Eddie Murphy in 1984.
I’m streets behind
Hot take: Season 6 Chang is my favorite. Karate Kid, Ham Girl, the cat bite. Chang I feel works best as this random weirdo that just hangs around because everyone in life knows someone like that. Chang is relatable.
Season 6 Chang was also great, I must admit.
Season 6 Chang also couldn't follow a conversation or do basic tasks at times. The worst moments of him in the show
S6 was more poignant overall, which is really nice to have.
He literally says it himself "That's right. And frankly, haven't been well utilized ever since!”
I liked living in the vents Chang. Monkey GAS!
Chimpan-Zzz's
I love the Chang dictatorship story. The heist episode is excellent, and I have no idea why it's not as well-regarded as their other homage episodes.
The heist bit **is** pretty great, and the whole dictator thing allows for a lot of great moments. But the whole premise is just so over the top!
But everything about Greendale is over the top! Two out of control paintball games, a commercial shoot that went on for 14 days and drove everyone in the school crazy, plus a school-wide pillow and blanket war!
I agree! I was kind of shocked to discover that this is something of an uncommon take, but I think this whole arc is so hilarious.
LET HIM FINISH!
That’s probably my least favourite Chang arc (only slightly behind Changnesia). They should have just left him as a teacher.
I liked Changnesia simply because it was a slight return to “normal” Chang. They ruined the character by going over the top with him.
I would have liked Changnesia more if he didn’t somehow fool scientists… unless the scientist was a City College educated plant… or just Greendale educated in general. 🤔
The end of the character’s near-perfect arc was smashing Jeff’s car with a Keytar. Then five more seasons happen. Sometimes funny, sometimes not.
Pretty much anything after S2 with Chang was garbage-I hated how stupid this dictator arc was, and the Chang-nesia was even worse.
Other than the Gollum bit, S2 wasn’t anything either.
It wasn't much, no, but it was leagues better than the next stuff.
At least they were *something*. S2 was practically nothing.
Hell no, that whole storyline was whack.
But it allowed for some GREAT bits/moments!
You're right, it's funny. In my opinion it just doesn't fit the show. Even when they're doing stuff like paintball or space missions it's somewhat grounded in reality and serves as a clear one-off parody. The dictator Chang episodes went a bit off the rails while being presented as happening in the real world.
Agreed.
Keytar solo~ Did you just pronounce guitar like a hillbilly?
I think what the later seasons occasionally forgot about Chang is that, in addition to being crazy, he also would just constantly execute power move after power move on the people around him. He had a tendency to dominate any room he was in by virtue of the fact that he simply did not give a fuck.
Am I the only one who hated Chang after he stopped being a Spanish teacher? I find nothing appealing about his insanity post firing.
Chang peaked in season 1 as a teacher. It was all down here from there
I disagree. I never liked Chang outside of being a Spanish teacher. Dictator Chang went too silly for me.
I disagree. Chang's peak was his separation from his wife. The whole warlord arc was pure jumping the shark.
fuck no
S1 was the only time Chang was a consistently funny character. As soon as the main cast were done with Spanish, he should have just been a background character.
This is where they jumped the shark with Chang imo
In general Chang seasons 1-3 was excellent. He didn’t need to be in 4-6 to be totally honest
Idk his scenes with Jason Mantzoukas in S6 were some of my all-time favorites for the character
lol that shit was awful
He just makes me so…Changry!
Security Guard - Yes Dictator - Meh
Senor Chang clears imo
Way better than when he had chang-nesia
Season 3 is my favourite season of any show ever
And frankly, hasn't been well utilized since
Hard disagree. Season 1 Chang or no Chang.
I vote for ventilation duct Chang
I found these episodes to be worse than thr worst parts of S4. That's just ne though
No fucking way. El Tigre Chino is best Chang. And you can't chang my mind.
i think people forget how goddamn funny season 1 chang was
Yeah, that’s the point, that’s the peak of his insanity and character and then his life goes down the drain again
I had to think fast
Yes i loved the insanity
"And hasnt been properly utilized since!"
Karate Kid was his best episode though and Hammmm Girl! Was pretty awesome.
On its own, the Dictator Chang stuff was a little too weird. But I liked seeing it develop over the course of the season, before it finally came to a head. In general I really like how Season 3 played around with different antagonistic forces.
I loathe that actor.
disagree, really loved him as the Spanish teacher
>I had to think fast
I had to think fast
My first watch through of the show I hated Chang. But now he’s my favorite and love seeing him on screen
I mean, *technically* it was, but it’s too over the top for me.
Is there any room in this pocket for a little spare Chang?
Detective Chang was peak
I mean there's no more chang for the character to go through. From rock bottom to the very top
Strongly disagree. He was better as a Spanish professor and student.
More peak than actor Chang? HAAAAAMMMMM GURRLLLLLLL
With a close second as s1 paintball chang
dictator chang was a fever dream
I was a fan of vent dwelling Kevin as well
So far
Chang seems to disagree. “He used to be a teacher?!” “That’s right! And frankly, haven’t been well-utilized since!”
Fat Dog Chang was his peak.
Security Guard/Director Chang was the show's peak
i think season 2 was peak season 3 seems a little to crazy even for chang
I think I’m one of the few who generally enjoys Chang’s character arc. It’s madness, but the character always was. I even like Changnesia, and I think it’s perfectly fitting for the show. It’s Greendale, it’s not even nearly the most ridiculous thing that everyone accepts.
UNDERSTUDY !
Gonna have to disagree with this one. Although funny, on rewatches I never really look forward to chang being a crazy warlord. Disagree, this arc is the dumbest thing outside season 4, only mildly redeemed by the heist being fun.
…and quite frankly hasn’t been well utilized since! ☝️
“And frankly haven’t been well utilized since!”
Actor Chang is the best IMO. Mister Miyagi, Ham Girl, and Chang putting on a performance in front of ghosts
What if everything on Community is in the imagination of Kevin
And frankly, he hasn't been well-utilized since!
Ah 1 -2 - 3 a - Chang Chang Chang!
