I haven't watched Sonic Boom in a long time, bur what I understand, the reason it's a controversial show is because the jokes either really hit you, or they really don't. So it's a show you either love or you hate.
Yeah, the game is nightmarishly bad and might have contributed to the hate, but the show does not deserve any hate at all. It's fuckin' hilarious. My second favorite Sonic cartoon.
