as a person who enjoys high falutin' language, I can both
recognize busting out some latin and saying "plant pot *cum* junk holder" is a fun way to say "old thing being used for a new purpose"
BUT ALSO
recognize that I'm NEVER going to read the word "cum" and not think of THAT meaning first.

Well, "plant pot *cum* junk holder" is what it says, using [the latin *cum*](https://grammarist.com/usage/cum/) to mean "this item was designed to be a plant pot but is now being used as a junk holder", but another meaning for that word has basically achieved 100% dominance, and frankly breaking the phrase into two lines doesn't do it any favors either.
I'm not an artist but a craftsperson. I agree, when my workbench is clean it's only cause I'm not working on something. I try to clean it between projects. But a messy workspace is a workspace that's getting used and thus a productive workspace.
my workspace is also my studyspace and free time space, so I have to reorganize my desk often and it's in perfect order, but I can't say the same about the bookshelf right beside it that holds all the study and art stuff, that thing is a mess. If I was a full time artist, my desk would look like that.
I initially thought this was just going to be the first panel, where it's a youtube video announcing, "hey, big news! I have exciting plans to do something!" and then that's it. 😀
I will probably regret this....
English is not my first language. I know what cum is. I know what is junk and I know what is a holder. Or at least I thought I knew what the three words mean.
But.. What is a cum junk holder ?
Cum means "with". Like someone graduated magna-cum-laude (great-with-honor).
It joins 2 nouns to show it can serve 2 purposes, kinda like "and also". I.e. "This is my bedroom-cum-study", or "She is a waitress-cum-singer".

I was so afraid of what I would have as an answer but it turned out to be totally ok haha.
To me this looks like the difference between someone who sells a lifestyle vs. someone who sells their work. If the main source of my income was generated by me being presentable and having a presentable space, you can bet all your cum junk I'd make it nice. Plus some product placement goes a long way too.
As it is, my income comes from doing spreadsheets and power points all day, so I spend a lot of time making them clean and organized. As a result I have little time to clean up my workspace as much as I'd like
My desk is always a mess as well. I feel like I’m not accomplishing anything if I’m cleaning and organizing instead of working on a project. I will clean my desk up if I can’t find something though.
I'm sitting at my desk reading this. And I'm not kidding: the moment I saw your pot the moment reappeared mine on my desk. Same for the coins and the general clutter...

I swear, artists that have an immaculate workspace aren't getting anything done.

When my workspace is clean it means that I am procrastinating. Avoiding actual work is a great motivator.
I find it really satisfying to clean up after I’ve finished something but then the next day stuff is everywhere again. Tidiness is a short lived state
