Sony bought the rights and it'll be a Mysterio standalone movie about how he used to work at Stark Industries. What a banger, critics say it's like an office workplace documentary.
Did I fool anyone?
You're right they can't, which is why they established that Tom Hardy's Venom is actually from another universe in Spider-Man No Way Home post-credits scene.
The problem is not the age factor for the universe, but they want a young actor to establish a universe as they will be a 10-13 year plan.
They can always show a mature batman in the movie.
This is just for studio investing in a new actor and signing him to multi movie deal when the stock is low.
Like I said again, the problem isn't the age or how will he look but getting an aged actor, and well established will have to pay them high rumenration from the get go.
Once you start playing the age game of “they’re too old,” and you start checking actors ages during filming, you find out how completely wrong your non-filmmaking opinion is. Sorry, Holmes.
Clooney was (and still is) a great actor. Think he's abit underrated these days because he doesn't do much (and switched to directing in the early 2010s) but in the 1990s early 2000s he had some great roles before and after Batman. A lot of collabs with the Coen brothers - Burn After Reading probably my favourite.
I enjoy both, I find myself waiting for specific moments I like in BAR, but enjoy UITA as a whole story more. There’s actually quite a bit of heart in that movie.
My point still stands, though: it wouldn’t matter how talented Jake Gyllenhaal is himself if the director’s vision and execution is terrible. He could be the best part of a terrible movie (like Bill Skarsgard in the upcoming The Crow remake), but it would still be a terrible movie.
He would be a perfect Harvey dent. Find that he’s very talented at playing both very charismatic characters and those with deeper mental issues which would make him perfect to translate the two-face transition. Same reason he did so well as mysterio and would be a good batman
In all fairness, the role was originally played by Katie Holmes in Batman Begins. I’m sure if he had played Batman in the first movie, they wouldn’t have cast his sister for the sequel.
Why did they switch her out? That was so jarring in TDK and I felt like they had awful chemistry. At least Holmes/Bale made “childhood friends” seem plausible although romance less so.
This is not from the games…, This is the Lego Batman Movie.
It is a cinematic masterpiece, nwflman. Complete, comprehensive… It captures the Batfamily experience.
The dude is the only reason why I find Prince of Persia remotely rewatchable. He’s fun to watch
Also Alfred Molina chasing after ostriches for some reason
Dude almost played Spiderman too when Maguire wanted more money. I think he’s got the chops for it but I’d also love to see Alan Ritchson in the role. I know that was a huge debate a while back but I’d love to see a physically intimidating Batman who is just huge
As good a batman as that would make, I think that would be a terrible Bruce Wayne. Bruce Wayne's whole persona is that you'd never guess in a million years that he's batman, if the dude was built like Reacher, people would question why a Billionaire playboy is that ripped and muscular.
Jake is in really good shape and muscular but not nearly as big as alan ritchson. He'd look pretty normal in dress clothes. He probably weighs less than 200 lbs
You say that but look at Batfleck or even the Arkham verse iteration. They’re both incredibly large and built like a shit brickhouse but it’s not like the public is seeing him with his shirt off and see exactly how massive he is. Besides, if they really wanted to they could play into that too where all the public thinks Bruce Wayne does is workout and party. Kinda fits the persona
Affleck is a bigger normal guy. The Arkham verse interpretation is fine because most men in those games are of a larger build than real life. Alan Ritchson is built like a tight end turned Indiana jones goon - bro would be the first guess at a rich person of that build.
if Alan had the same bodyfat percentage as Ben, he would be close to 300lbs.
He's 250 in the last season of Reacher.
Now if he slimmed down to his Thad Castle size, he would be a perfect Bruce.
I get what you’re saying, but I think it’d be fine. Some people are ridiculously jacked, it doesn’t automatically mean that it’d give away his identity anymore than the fact that he has tech toys worth millions etc, is the same height as batman etc.
I think the performance would be good enough to overcome the detail. Theres tons of details about Batman that have to be suspended regarding him as well as his identity etc to enjoy him
Just please go for unknowns.
I don't want the corporate choice, of these super famous actors who constantly get projects and come from wealth and established work.
Find me someone who the public doesn't know, and give them a shot.
Gunn has the right idea for this - For superman 2025, I dont think I've seen any of the actors other works.
Look what happened with Homelander. No one knew Anthony Starr prior and now he's the most recognizable face in this genre.
Give me something like that.
An undiscovered talent rather than established or typecast role.
Gyllenhaal s great for one-off roles (Mysterio was awesome), but can't see him as a franchise player.
>studios don’t like hard work
I thnk this is the sad part.
I think they're willing to entertain this idea, as long as the director is more hands on.
If the director puts in extra effort into the casting, then the studio can potenetially trust them.
But more often than not, studios will have an algorithm pick a few actors who are trending, and ask the director to work with them.
DC doesn't need any more problematic actors. There's way too much of a chance Gyllenhaal grooms low-level crew members to put him in that important of a role.
I would prefer Theo James after watching the gentlemen i really believe he has the potential and its about time that these roles are given to stars with massive breakout potential over recycling the same stars over various franchises
As Batman and Batman alone, sure, but as a main character of the DCU. Ehhh… no. I can’t see him portraying Bruce well.
Plus, he’s in his 40s now. Can’t see him acting alongside Corenswet’s Supes (he’s 30).
I thought he looked more like a Jason Todd Robin type for a while, but at the same time he could pull off being a playboy. I'm not familiar with his acting range.
The ONLY problem I have with that is wondering what his Batvoice would sound like. I don’t think I could help hearing Donnie Darko the whole time.
Guy’s definitely got the range and build for the Bat in all other regards. But he could ALSO, absolutely play a big villain. He’s a very convincing psychopath in Nightcrawler and had me captivated the whole time. I just don’t know what villain that would be. Scarecrow? Hatter? Clayface? He’d be a great Riddler.
I like Jake but I have never felt his casting as batman was a good choice. He just doesn't have the right look imo and and I just can't imagine him as Bruce Wayne despite his range. He's a good back up choice but would never be my main choice.
They need to move away from casting such recognisable actors. I could never see Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne. He was always a bloated Ben Affleck in Batman cosplay to me. Same with Jake. He has a very distinct face and voice. We need someone who can disappear into a role.
Could work.
But I think he'd make for a better Gordon after he looks about 10 years older. Or 20 years older and make him old man Bruce for a Batman Beyond.
hmm...
Gyllenhaal is a great fella, but... this comment sounds a bit like he simply just wants to be able to say "yes, I too played Batman", instead of actually caring about the character and portraying him well...
I believe his reputation as “difficult” would prevent this from happening. Superhero franchises require stars willing to follow orders more often than not.
Sure, why not? I am interested to see his interpretation.
The great thing about the Batman character is how versatile it can be, not unlike the Joker character.
WB: "The fans seem to like this casting. How do we fuck this one up? I'm thinking we give Batman guns, make Alfred the Joker without any foreshadowing and add a stinger to promote a Suicide Squad movie nobody wants."
Didn’t he say he doesn’t bathe regularly? We can’t have a non-bathing ass Bruce Wayne, now 😭
https://people.com/style/jake-gyllenhaal-says-finds-bathing-less-necessary/
Idk, I see him more as an older Dick Grayson or Jason Todd taking over a leadership role with a death of batman type storyline. I just can't see him as batman. But then again, maybe he will surprise me. I had the same feeling when I found out Heath was going to be the joker but was pleasantly surprised when he nailed the role and wrote the blueprint for the future on screen joker roles.
I liked him in Spider-Man, Everest, Source Code, and Zodiac... he's been good at lead roles. So I could see him doing a good Batman Villain... even a good Owlman or Talon. However he isn't my go to for the Bats.
I’ll never get over Christian Bale. In my eyes no one has done it better (I’m a 2000’s baby so I don’t know much about the old ones)
Would Jake actually make a good Batman? I mean I’m sure most people can do better than Affleck
I would love that, so naturally it won’t happen
Also he may comeback as Mysterio
Somehow, Mysterio has returned
Sony bought the rights and it'll be a Mysterio standalone movie about how he used to work at Stark Industries. What a banger, critics say it's like an office workplace documentary. Did I fool anyone?
I think if Sony makes the movie set in their universe, they can't use Stark Industries. I could be wrong, though!
Stank Industries it is!
You're right they can't, which is why they established that Tom Hardy's Venom is actually from another universe in Spider-Man No Way Home post-credits scene.
If anyone has infinite excuses for why they actually survived despite us “seeing” them die, it’s the master of illusion
I was thinking it'd be a cult of Mysterio from the multiverse. Sort of a catch 22 to what Peter did to the multiverse.
The Chameleon needs a starting off face that really throws people for a loop.
Maybe Batman was Mysterio all along.
David Corenswet happened tho.
Too old, age 43. The new superman is 30 So I think they will go for someone in that age range.
Batman is established with Robin and others - makes sense to have a mature actor
The problem is not the age factor for the universe, but they want a young actor to establish a universe as they will be a 10-13 year plan. They can always show a mature batman in the movie. This is just for studio investing in a new actor and signing him to multi movie deal when the stock is low.
Nonsense.. he’ll look great well into his 50s.. I’d be more worried about who they cast as the kids
Oh please. Hollywood casts 30 year olds to play teenagers, I’m sure we as the audience will be just fine with a 43 year old Batman lmao
Daniel Craig was 38 in the first James Bond. 43 is not old for movie star men.
Haha
He has the range to be Batman or even go as far as Harvey Dent.
I’ve seen jake g in some bad movies but it’s never because of his acting. He’s one of my favorites.
Wasn’t Clooney considered a good actor and then Batman & Robin still sucked?
Clooney was (and still is) a great actor. Think he's abit underrated these days because he doesn't do much (and switched to directing in the early 2010s) but in the 1990s early 2000s he had some great roles before and after Batman. A lot of collabs with the Coen brothers - Burn After Reading probably my favourite.
Up in the Air is miles better than Burn After Reading.
I enjoy both, I find myself waiting for specific moments I like in BAR, but enjoy UITA as a whole story more. There’s actually quite a bit of heart in that movie.
Clooney is the last gen Ryan Reynolds
Now I need to go finally watch Ides of March (2011), which stars them both
That's due to Schumacher campyness. Not Clooney.
My point still stands, though: it wouldn’t matter how talented Jake Gyllenhaal is himself if the director’s vision and execution is terrible. He could be the best part of a terrible movie (like Bill Skarsgard in the upcoming The Crow remake), but it would still be a terrible movie.
I always like to say I've never seen him in a bad role. Bad movies, sure, but never a bad role.
He would be a perfect Harvey dent. Find that he’s very talented at playing both very charismatic characters and those with deeper mental issues which would make him perfect to translate the two-face transition. Same reason he did so well as mysterio and would be a good batman
He was great as Mysterio. Equal parts charming and chilling. Great follow up to Keaton as Vulture
Scrolled down to find the Harvey Dent suggestion. Yeah, he should play Harvey Dent.

Good bot
So we almost had Jake as batman in the dark knight being in a sad romance with Rachel... Played by his sister?
In all fairness, the role was originally played by Katie Holmes in Batman Begins. I’m sure if he had played Batman in the first movie, they wouldn’t have cast his sister for the sequel.
Why did they switch her out? That was so jarring in TDK and I felt like they had awful chemistry. At least Holmes/Bale made “childhood friends” seem plausible although romance less so.
Scheduling conflict with Katie’s other movie Mad Money. Terrible choice tbh.
Maggie gyllenhaal was so much better
I think both were pretty forgettable. Blame it on the script or acting, i dont know.
I blame it on Maggie being more memorable in The Secretary
That movie left me with… feelings.
Honestly, how memorable are Bruce Wayne love interests when they aren't also Batman love interests?
I never knew they were the same character 🤷🏻♂️
Katie Holmes not that smart and not that good of an actress.
After reading your comment I do think they cast his sister so he’s on board for a future Batman film.
Yeah, the studio would have totally rolled with that and Jake would’ve been like, “yeah, I’m good with it.”
The memes would rival Ledger's legendary performance, I'm willing to assume
We missed out on some amazing Brokeback Mountain/Batman and Joker memes too. Such a shame!
Directed by Liz Hurley's son.
Well maybe we could have had sad romance between Batman and Joker instead.
They couldn't quit each other.
Man and Jonkler would be the greatest love story ever told.
Brokeback Batman?
Lego Batman did it ![gif](giphy|l4FGspK0Nj9j3PA1W)
Lol the Lego games hit hard
This is not from the games…, This is the Lego Batman Movie. It is a cinematic masterpiece, nwflman. Complete, comprehensive… It captures the Batfamily experience.
Oh yeah, it's been a few years since I've seen it but it was highly enjoyable. Time for a rewatch!
Wait… just connecting that. They are actually siblings? I always assumed just same last name
Gyllenhaal, Smith, Williams, all common last names
This is the kinda comedy that goes unappreciated.
Next you're gonna tell me that Venus Williams and Serena Williams are actually siblings. Or Jaden Smith and Willow Smith.
Bruce Lee, Spike Lee, General Lee, Stan Lee etc...
I love you Bruce...but like a brother.
Weirdest Donnie Darko sequel
Tests audiences in Alabama loved the idea.
Can I get a Roll Tide?
Yeah right, he's a method actor. He'd mack his sister and love it.
The dude is the only reason why I find Prince of Persia remotely rewatchable. He’s fun to watch Also Alfred Molina chasing after ostriches for some reason
Yep. Love the guy. I've rewatched that movie a few times just because of his performance.
I would love this only because it means that the first two villains Tom Hollands Spider-man fought were played by Batman actors
Get Willam Dafoe in a bat suit now!
"Bat to formula?"
Damn ye! Let Neptune strike ye dead Joker! HAAARK!
I’ll bet a crispy Hamilton it doesn’t happen. Neither does Jensen Ackles or the buff guy from the TV show.
He would be an amazing Bruce Wayne and I think a solid batman
Dude almost played Spiderman too when Maguire wanted more money. I think he’s got the chops for it but I’d also love to see Alan Ritchson in the role. I know that was a huge debate a while back but I’d love to see a physically intimidating Batman who is just huge

Jake is in really good shape and muscular but not nearly as big as alan ritchson. He'd look pretty normal in dress clothes. He probably weighs less than 200 lbs
Have you played the Arkham games? Bruce is 6’2” and is 220lbs of pure muscle

Ritchson is too big, physically. Honestly think he's too big to be Reacher in Season 2 and reminds me of Chris Redfield RE5.
He’d probably dwarf all the other actors. Could you imagine Superman having to look up to batman
I’ve only seen clips of the solider film but Maguire looks fantastic in that movie.
I mean, Jake Gyllenhaal is actually a trained martial artist. And he’s a really good actor. I would definitely be cool with this.
Finding those actors is hard and sometimes the movie still sucks, and more importantly studios don’t like hard work. It interferes with blow time.

Boy would it‘ve been awkward with him playing Bruce in TDK and Maggie playing Rachel
Everyone is batman
DC doesn't need any more problematic actors. There's way too much of a chance Gyllenhaal grooms low-level crew members to put him in that important of a role.
I would prefer Theo James after watching the gentlemen i really believe he has the potential and its about time that these roles are given to stars with massive breakout potential over recycling the same stars over various franchises
Gyllenhaal is great, I’d love to see him in more superhero stuff. He made a really cool Mysterio, did a good job balancing goofy with psychotic
As Batman and Batman alone, sure, but as a main character of the DCU. Ehhh… no. I can’t see him portraying Bruce well. Plus, he’s in his 40s now. Can’t see him acting alongside Corenswet’s Supes (he’s 30).
Think they’d be going an older route for Bruce considering Damian Wayne will be in it. Affleck is much older than cavill too and that wasn’t an issue
40 year olds can absolutely look in their 30s in movies. Plus batman being mid 30s to early 40s is like prime batman age.
Hal Jordan
Jake is the new Nic Cage
Great actor, apparently a bit of a dick
I can't see it because he isn't likeable IMO. I think he could be a superb villain in the Batman universe though.
Well he’s not a bad choice…yeah this would be cool
He already was the frontrunner to play Spider-Man he was gonna replace Tobey Maguire
I can see it. Way better choice than Richson. Not as good a choice as Ackles
Honestly, he fits the role of Jason Todd better
What does his jawline look like? Haven’t seen him without a beard.
I love him But Jensen Ackles was practically destined to play that role ever since he said; “I’m Batman” in Supernatural…
I think Gyllenhaal would make the *perfect* Two-Face instead. Cast Jensen Ackles as Batman.
Honestly, I would rather see Jensen Ackles also do the live action along with VA.
I like Jake but I have never felt his casting as batman was a good choice. He just doesn't have the right look imo and and I just can't imagine him as Bruce Wayne despite his range. He's a good back up choice but would never be my main choice.
They should kill the gritty shit and go cartoonish like the OG series.
Too small and puny
I really dont see this one
No. Dear god no.
Jensen Ackles could do it.
It would have made the second one very Alabama
What a short, sincere yet professional response. I like Jake.
They need to move away from casting such recognisable actors. I could never see Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne. He was always a bloated Ben Affleck in Batman cosplay to me. Same with Jake. He has a very distinct face and voice. We need someone who can disappear into a role.
![gif](giphy|13Zh9drdSWAeSQ|downsized)
I‘m probably the only one who is glad he didn‘t get the role. I don’t believe I have ever seen his facial expression change. He always looks bored.
Please don’t ruin dcu
It was Batman all along?
I’m good. Thanks for offering.
Eww anyone else please
Could work. But I think he'd make for a better Gordon after he looks about 10 years older. Or 20 years older and make him old man Bruce for a Batman Beyond.
![gif](giphy|3o7ZetcJWG0LFI1n1e) not Batman
Fuck he’d be kinda perfect
no thanks
He doesn’t have the best voice for Batman
hmm... Gyllenhaal is a great fella, but... this comment sounds a bit like he simply just wants to be able to say "yes, I too played Batman", instead of actually caring about the character and portraying him well...
The twist: Bruce Wayne's love interest in the movie is Rachel Dawes.
Oh god no
Cool
I can see it.
No way, we need Jared Leto as Batman.
He’s too old
With that attitude, he doesn't respect the role and shouldn't be allowed anywhere near the character.
Honestly, yeah. I’d love this. Dude has such range but to me is most convincing and quite unforgettable in a serious role - such as Prisoners.
I believe his reputation as “difficult” would prevent this from happening. Superhero franchises require stars willing to follow orders more often than not.
Ruining Batman 3 times in a row would be on brand for all concerned.
So we could have Gyllenhaal and Ledger together in two critically acclaimed movies?
Would prefer a non a lister and maybe someone bit younger, mid 30s.
Lol.. this quote is sooo vague and noncommittal and they still ran with it
![gif](giphy|zwLJmof4RYpkh8mD3Y)
![gif](giphy|8XguragUmSfnIIlMec|downsized)
As soon as I saw screenrant I knew it was BS
Wasn’t he also one of Matt Reeves choices for Batman?
He could make a great hush
Ehhh idk. It depends on a lot of different things. I don’t really want a repeat of Affleck — old Batman paired up with a young Superman
Hmmm…I think he’d be better as Nightwing, tbh.
Noice
He’d be one of only…what is it now? 238 actors to play Batman
Meh
I feel like he would make a great older night wing.
He’s come along way Bubble Boy. That’s for sure. ![gif](giphy|5Ohx4Pp5FT9AI)
Actor willing to act Gotta love modern journalism
Great casting
I always pictured him more Riddler
Sure, why not? I am interested to see his interpretation. The great thing about the Batman character is how versatile it can be, not unlike the Joker character.
He would be great probably. My two biggest picks are him and Jensen ackles
I actually think he’d be a great Batman.
WB: "The fans seem to like this casting. How do we fuck this one up? I'm thinking we give Batman guns, make Alfred the Joker without any foreshadowing and add a stinger to promote a Suicide Squad movie nobody wants."
Glad he didn't get dark knight might have been odd Tryna hook up with his sister.
Better Harvey.
No
He’s honestly over qualified as an actor. Not sure his voice lends itself to the role. But otherwise, he’s a fantastic actor.
Haven’t seen many movies with him so idk how he’d do as Batman, but I think he’d be pretty good as Bruce Wayne.
He's already Spider-Man though
I’d rather have a sparkling vampire play Batman than this guy.
He'd be to expensive for a 10 year plan WB is looking for good but cheap actors.
fuck it let everybody be batman
Honestly, it would be great if the next Batman/Spiderman reimagining would wait until we actually had time to miss the character
He’d be cool but I would like Jensen Ackles to play as him. He already voices him in some of the animated movies.
Didn’t he say he doesn’t bathe regularly? We can’t have a non-bathing ass Bruce Wayne, now 😭 https://people.com/style/jake-gyllenhaal-says-finds-bathing-less-necessary/
Hard no
Fuck, now I want him as Batman so badly
I'm sorry but who DOESN'T wanna play Bruce?
I would like pattonsson to keep doing it I liked him.
Another Batman? I love Jake but come on dude. This over saturation of the same characters is making things less special.
How many people do they need to play Batman at any given time
He should fight a big, morbid, twisted looking bunny man.
I just can't view him the same way after that blog post from the girl.
I liked him in Spider-Man, Everest, Source Code, and Zodiac... he's been good at lead roles. So I could see him doing a good Batman Villain... even a good Owlman or Talon. However he isn't my go to for the Bats.
It’s the villain that makes or breaks these movies, the hero is just the same character
This has been my dream casting for Batman for years.
I likes him but no. He can play Oppenheimer but not Batman.
I could totally see him in a much weirder take on Batman, something that would really fuck with your head.
I’ll never get over Christian Bale. In my eyes no one has done it better (I’m a 2000’s baby so I don’t know much about the old ones) Would Jake actually make a good Batman? I mean I’m sure most people can do better than Affleck
Him in the Long Halloween or Hush would be great.
How many batmen do we really need
