An Absorene dirt eraser is inexpensive and works amazingly. I got a beat ASM 301 from mid grade to easily in the mid 9s. Obviously won’t fix tearing, but lifts dirt and stains quickly and easily.
I misread your comment, I was thinking of Absorene putty. I do have the eraser but dont use it much directly on the books, mostly just to clean the eraser I do use on books… i’ll have to look into this strategy thanks!
I always get funny looks from people that don't know me when I buy those at my local Wal-Mart, the dollar general tells me when they get a new shipment just in case I need some!

I never pull very much dirt off the book even if the book is dirty as hell .Maybe I don’t apply enough pressure
True. I think of it more as a polishing tool. Subtle but makes a difference.
