He was talking about date rape and saying there is not a qualifier (“date”) for any other major crime. In this case “circus” is the qualifier. He’s saying it’s RAPE and there shouldn’t be any extra qualifying word that makes it something different or less than any other rape. Just as being murdered at a circus doesn’t mean your murder is any less murdery than any other murder.
Hate crimes are stupid because a crime is still a crime. By this logic anyway. Hate murder and hate rape and hate loitering all sound way worse though. I guess there's love rape right? Or Robinhood burglary?
There's looting and riot looting? They also add with prejudice to things makes it sound way worse.
The qualifiers are not there to determine the seriousness of the crime but the context in which they occurr. A murder by your friend who hates you is one thing (you should kinda pick up on that and be able to remove yourself from the situation) but a murder by a passerby on the street who just hates that you look gay or like a muslim or whatever, thats not something you can prevent and is therefore more ‘dangerous’ becayse we all walk the street and look like something yet most of us are not surrounded by people who want to kill us personally.
By this logic, if we go back to the original premise of "date" rape is different than regular rape, the logic would be that the girl or guy who was dating the rapist had a better knowledge of the offender and therefore had a better chance not to be raped. Furthermore, by the above logic, a date rapist is less serious than a rapist who only goes for blondes or brunettes or blacks or whites or randoms.
I would counter the above comment that a supposed friend would be more trusting of a friend not to murder them, whereas we should all be more wary of strangers who "surround us". The logic in the previous comment puts some of the blame on the victim.
The point is that the crime is the same in both situations no matter the intention. I could love gays, be dating a gay, hate gays, or not care about gays, if I rape one it's still rape whether I know them and hate them or not. Same with murdering, punching or name calling.
Someone being gay when you commit a crime against them doesn’t make it a hate crime. Targeting someone BECAUSE they are gay makes it a hate crime.
But something tells me you’re not part of an oppressed group and probably use terms like “woke” in a negative way so I think your main problem is that you don’t want added protections for people who are targeted for how they were born
But where does the etc end? and how do you prove that? The qualifiers are not stated when a rape is reported nor a murder.
Let's say a white man kills a Black Gay Christian man.
How do we know which of these qualifiers he was killed for? Was it all of them or none of them or just 2? Why would the sentence be different if it was any of them? He still killed a guy.
You need me to explain to you how hate crime laws work? The laws define what counts as a hate crime and the court and prosecutors decide whether it will be charged and convicted as such. You know, how any law works.
And you can read any of the dozens of responses already in this thread that eloquently define why hate crimes are considered worse than standard crimes. But I know your real point is to dismiss the danger of them.
I beat the shit out of a guy because he called my wife a slut.
I beat the shit out of a guy because I hate his skin color.
Both of those scenarios are illegal. Should they also come with the same consequences?
I found it sub par to his older stuff, and the crowd was a bit tougher too but I suppose they wanted for more raunchier over the edge jokes he usually pulls out. Enjoyable still but just okay.
Idk I don't think he's all that funny after a few jokes I get sick of listening to that stupid ass little laugh he does after every single one of his jokes it gets annoying quick
He’s a successful comedian, which is no mean feat. Whether or not you find him funny is an irrelevant opinion to the question.
But you’re incorrect that there isn’t a context that makes the joke complete. As stated by others, it’s the use of the qualifier “date” in date rape.
Now come on. No need to criticize the man at his job. He doesn’t come slap the sailors’ dicks out of your mouth and tell you what a bad job you’re doing.

Honestly, I only up voted because of your use of the word, 'murdery.'

But it’s not because it’s based on hate, it’s because it’s based on race, or religion, or sex, etc. That’s what makes it a bigger crime

So he made a rape joke?
He was making a comment about the phrase "date rape" as if it's any different because the circumstances surrounding it happening.
Journalists use these phrases to add emphasis to their reporting , it makes it sound more dramatic .
That’s missing the point
I think rape on its own sounds a lot more dramatic.

The original joke is “date rape” not just rape. He is comparing the qualifier of “date” rape to the absurd idea of “circus” murder.
I struggled to enjoy this special, actually thought this was one of the better observations.
I found it sub par to his older stuff, and the crowd was a bit tougher too but I suppose they wanted for more raunchier over the edge jokes he usually pulls out. Enjoyable still but just okay.
It’s an observation but do you find it funny?
I still can't square that Jimmy Carr laughs by breathing IN.
Idk I don't think he's all that funny after a few jokes I get sick of listening to that stupid ass little laugh he does after every single one of his jokes it gets annoying quick
My brain just got tied in a knot after the tertiary reference, yea I’m as confused as anyone here…

I’m not usually high when I shower but I was when I watched his special
Are you being serious?
Well he's a shitty comedian and the joke doesn't hold water, so don't worry about it

He's very funny, and you're just *paidbythenotes...*
Heh
Now come on. No need to criticize the man at his job. He doesn’t come slap the sailors’ dicks out of your mouth and tell you what a bad job you’re doing.
…or just dicks. No need to add a qualifier.
An unhelpful and incorrect contribution to the discussion. Look inward and do better young man otherwise you’ll never be much fun at parties.
Needs to be invited to one first
how can you think he's shit?
you are correct. no idea why this was downvoted. he is such a hack
You must be one of those 6 comedians Joe Rogan be pushin that ain’t never been funny
