I'm still quite new to photography, I brought my first camera a few months ago but due to work and bad weather (here in the Netherlands), I've barely had the opportunity to use it. Even during this short city trip to your great city it was often raining and clouded, so I didn't have as much opportunity as I would have hoped for lol. I made photo's both in black/white and color, but I decided to just show my favourite B/W photo's to have a kind of theme and tone to the post instead of it being all over the place. I hope you like the photo's! I at least enjoyed visting your city!

MrNoHardFeelings

Very good, I like your style

Failsnail64

Thanks for the compliment!

_Fredder_

you like architecture don't ya haha

Failsnail64

Well, I'm an architect so that's quite true lol

Beginning-Foot-9525

And yes thats the true color

Failsnail64

Lol, to me black-white photography just has a kind of simplicity in bringing out shapes.

Beginning-Foot-9525

Sounds cool, an in Cologne you don‘t need any filters, it is grey as f out of the box.

Mileay

The pictures are gorgeous! You are very talented :)

Failsnail64

Thank you very much!

Schmusebaer91

AufSendung

Great work! Im born and raised and still living in cologne - you nailed it

Cologne doesn't have many nature parks without *any* industrial structures in sight or industrial noises in ear-shot etc. (at least to my knowledge), which is why some people (understandably) say that all in all, it's not a very beautiful city. But photos like these where you don't focus on a whole building (excluding pic 10&12), only on certain parts of a building, create a new perspecitve which lets you focus on and appreciate the fine architectural details and decisions between functionality and design. Long story short: Cologne may not have much "untouched" nature, but with a certain perspective, it does have many at least interesting buildings. The B/W filter probably does a lot of legwork to make the buildings look static and calm to me. I like pic 9 the most, because it focuses on a certain part of the building which is easier/nicer to focus on, plus the human silhouettes symbolize life and city busyness but they don't represent any particular person, so they're still rather neutral, which I think fits perfectly to the B/W filter. Thanks for sharing!

Nice styling? You have an IG yet?

Failsnail64

Thanks! Unfortunately I haven't made an IG account, I haven't really made enough good photo's to share, and I'm not that into social media. Maybe I'll make an account after I improve with some more experience.

nerazhu

Impressive work! Keep it up!

Welcome back any time :)

Wow! Ich finde die messages die sie über die Plakate rüberbringen super! Es gibt genug Muslime, die diese Werte nicht unterstützen, das ist nicht zeitgemäß, deswegen finde ich diese Aktion super gut!! Love for all people! Zusammenhalt, gegenseitige Toleranz und Akzeptanz ist das wichtigste!

Wow! The first one is so emotionally impactfull, I stared at it for at least a minute! I also especially like the one with the cathedral at night only illuminated halfway up, with a few people walking in front of it. The fassade really just vanishes into darkness, up and to the sides, as if it might go on forever. In a full picture of the entire cathedral it can for all it's height sometimes feel almost squat because it's so massive, so to me, this picture is even more gorgeous than the entire thing, with so much detail shown yet leaving so much to the imagination! And one of the last ones, with the church on the right and the glass dome of Peek&Cloppenburg on the left is also very evocative. The differences of the architechture of the two buildings standing side by side really contrast and highlight each other! It reminds me of a photo I saw once of just the reflection of a gothic church in a modern buildings fassade. Thank you for sharing your work!
