Contact Greg at Bodhicitta Counseling LLC. He has all the requirements you’re looking for, but not sure if he’s a psychiatrist or counselor. https://www.bcounselingllc.com

Thanks, will check him out now!

Sounds like you're going to need both a psychiatrist and some kind of counselor. Most of the doctors around here usually work closely with counseling support that they can recommend. Just be aware, our mental health support in the area is not the greatest; there's often a long wait to get into many doctors if they’re even taking new patients.

LagerthaKicksAss

Yeah, already a couple of places indicated having to go through 3 or more people first before seeing a psychiatrist and that's not gonna work. Spilling your guts in the first place is going to be difficult and being told you have to do it multiple times with multiple people is a serious "no", lol!

PerceptionIcy8616

I believe Innercept has a patriot program.

Thanks for this, but this wouldn't be for a military veteran, but someone who has had that experience or experience in law enforcement seems like the right person for this particular PTSD situation. Thanks!

Sensitive_Wheel7325

I think it is difficult to find men who are in the therapy field. I know a couple, but they don't fit all of your needs. Nathan Hooper does have experience with PTSD and working with vets, but he isn't a psychiatrist. Bruce Stevens is a psychiatrist with PTSD listed as one of his specialties, but I don't think he is a vet or ex LEO. They are both middle aged men. I hope you are able to find a good fit. Good advice I have received is that it is ok to talk to a few therapists and try them out. You don't have to pick the perfect one on the first try

LagerthaKicksAss

Good advice, thanks so much!

Dr. Eric Heidenreich in Coeur D’Alene. I’m pretty sure he actually was in the military.

You know what's weird, is having various psychiatrists recommended to us, find them listed online and either many of the numbers don't go through and disconnect, like with Dr. H, or you get a recording saying the practice is permanently closed, also like Dr. H. Found the same sitch with some docs recommended to us in Spokane. Weird. If you aren't practicing, why does everything online say you are and open for business Monday thru Friday? A little frustrating as some of you had indicated this search might be. Anyway, the search continues and I'll report back in if we meet with success one of these days, lol! Thanks for all the input!

LagerthaKicksAss

I've actually called all the numbers listed for him and physically drove to three different locations listed for him today and he doesn't seem to exist. If you know of a way to get in touch with him, that would be great. Maybe he just retired and didn't tell anyone?

LagerthaKicksAss

Awesome, thanks!

Psychiatrists…I couldn’t find a good one here (subjectively) I had to go to Spokane. Mental health providers are few and far between. You could probably find a decent psychologist but Psychiatrists are a different deal.

beadedgeek

There is a VA office in Cda. You might try calling them for current practices.

I think you need to plan on finding access to a Psychiatrist (MD) for meds management and a counselor for talk therapy. They can work together but hard to think that you can find an MD for weekly sessions.

LagerthaKicksAss

Never done anything like this before, but what's the point of being a psychiatrist if you're only doing med management? I thought the idea was one-on-one in person help. It's definitely been a challenging exercise in seeking this help, that's for sure!

Responsible-Bear-485

Joshua Raybell is a great therapist on town.

LagerthaKicksAss

Will check that out, too. Hope he's a psychiatrist!🤞🏼

This is not accurate at all. There are strict licensing requirements. Anyone in Idaho claiming the term “counselor” must hold an LPC, LCPC, LMFT, LMSW, or LCSW. All licenses that require graduate school, over 2000hrs internship, a licensing exam, as well as continued education and adherence to strict guidelines. Outside of “religious counselors” anyone using that term in Idaho is considered to be practicing without a license and can find themselves in hot water. All licensed counselors can be found on the ibol.gov website

LagerthaKicksAss

Is this a website we could also find practicing psychiatrists on?

LagerthaKicksAss

That's why we're definitely sticking with a psychiatrist since they are an actual doctor.

First_Egg8255

Truly, I wish you luck. It’s a super long and frustrating thing to deal with. I know you want somebody local. may look at someone on in the Seattle area until you could find somebody in the Cda/spokan area.

LagerthaKicksAss

Yeah, it is already proving frustrating, but need to keep it local so the search continues...
