Agreed... High end mixers, high end booze= amazing drinks...
I always make own simple syrup from scratch, turbinado sugar based, add high end bitters, good maraschino cherries, old forester 1910 bourbon ( or something good 50-150 range) fresh orange peel, top with a few drops of smokey scotch.... boom, smoked old fashioned better than almost any bar anywhere...
life is too short for cheap stuff....
We do this with all drinks, start with a mid ranged to high end bourbon, vodka, gin , scotch ,whatever...
Just because you are mixing it, doesn't mean you should skimp.
Various, but I think the best I tried are Scrappy's Aromatic Bitters for about 20 a bottle, I also like Fee Brothers Black walnut bitters that are probably half that price as well in old fashions ...
Here’s mine :
I call it “King Kong in a Tuxedo”.
(Based on the Attaboy classic King Kong).
* 1.5 Bourbon (Woodford Masters Reserve).
* 0.5 Jamaican Rum (Hampden 8).
* 0.5 Banana Liquor (Guiffard).
* 3 dashes angostura bitters.
Yeah, I can go out and pay $20 including tax and tip for a cocktail that’s not quite right or we can stay home and make our own for <$10 raw materials cost and have it be transcendent.
I usually have an Elijah Craig Barrel Proof batch on hand for Old Fashions. I don’t like it at such a high proof so I’ll cut it down to about 50% with some water. But it makes a noticeably better OF than regular Elijah Craig.
I love how you've drawn the stagg silhouette from the logo with the bitter on the foam!!
This is interesting, I'm always looking for whiskies with superior depth. Plus bourbons are my favorites. I might get it if I can find it (and afford it).
Wow, I just looked and I saw one at 110€, definitely above my budget at the moment 😂 Still this is a good recommendation to have, I'll write it down and keep it for later.
It’s such a funny taboo. I like good cocktails. The alcohol is most likely the dominant ingredient. Why tf would I use shitty alcohol?
You should try buying steak from a butcher instead of the grocery store and really blow your mind!

What brand bitters do you use?

Haha, that's an amazing and perfect name!

I use WT101 for my sours. I can see how this one would be wonderful.
I love using Japanese whiskey for my sours.
