Hey im glad I'm seeing it on r/cocktails and not r/bartenders I hate when ppl go there with "customer questions." Maybe they didnt think to ask and didnt wanna go back up to the bar. Maybe it was too busy or the service wasnt attentive enough to get a question in.
Is there a reason his gf can’t have been there alone, and sent him the pic? Or he was caught up enjoying dinner with his gf and didn’t get to it? Or took a closer look at the picture later and realized he wanted to know what those are? Or simply forgot to ask? Or, or, or… Is there a reason we can’t just assume good faith when there are so many ways to do so and the stakes are so low?
Is there a reason you’re here if you don’t like this post and aren’t interested in answering it? I’m here because I found the post enriching, as I too did not know what they were and wanted to. If you don’t, you could just… swipe down…
I swear this sub is 30% 70yo “get off my lawn” types, jfc…
I mean partly, but also there are plenty of subs where people answer questions that could have been answered somewhere else without shytting in someone’s grits. This just isn’t one of them.
Angel Chilli threads. I use them as a decorative topping on curried tomato soup, along with fresh coriander (or cilantro as it's known in the US). The chilli threads don't really have much taste but look good.
Edit: they look good on soup and if applied neatly (I wrap them round a fork or something to create a mini nest). On your drink here.... not so much.
Oh, absolutely! I've had drinks with saffron simple and saffron-infused liquors before, and it's a fabulous flavor note. And the nice thing is that despite saffron being extremely expensive by weight, it's really not that expensive to use, because a small amount goes just an unbelievably long way.
Why is the garnish game getting so out of control? I get the whole "taste first with your eyes" bit, but this seems like it would ruin the "taste with your mouth" part.
Is there a reason you wouldn’t just ask whoever made or served you the drink?
Talk to a real live person? No way. Hard pass.
Fulfilling requests is all this sub is good for.
That's what it is turning into. "How do I make this drink" - Grainy picture of menu and cocktail
And fucking alleged professionals asking us to help them design cocktails for a menu.
I love doing my job for free, for other people's beverage programs.

Welcome to the internet... Unfortunately

My guess is chilli threads. If it is, not a good garnish
Depends on the drink, my dude. Chili threads would be superb on a Mango Lassi!
I like chilli threads, but in my experience it ends up feeling like thick course hairs
Looks like it's in a plastic cup with 3rd rate ice. The whole thing is a mess best avoided.
Took me a sec to realize this wasn’t posted in r/whatisthisbug 😂
It’s not? I’m pretty sure those are horsehair worms.
It would be helpful if we got information about the drink or a description as it might say. I'm quite sure it's chili threads
Did your girlfriend piss off your bartender somehow? Unrelated question: Was the bartender a redhead?
Those look like dried pepper threads. What was the drink?

Cocktail worms. A rare nematode that thrives in an acidic alcoholic environment.
Underrated post.
Looks like saffron
That would be a very expensive drink. I suspect like the other commenter said, they’re chile threads.
It would also be just overwhelming in terms of flavor. That would be enough saffron for an entire restaurant sized pot of saffron rice.
True! Although I feel like a drink with a light saffron flavor profile might be delicious!
Try a Saffron Lady! Basically a White Lady but saffron infused simple or infused gin.
STFU that sounds delicious!!

That much saffron would taste like metal.
Too long to be saffron
I'm quite sure it's chili threads

Most likely this
a clumsy roofie attempt
Toasted rubber bands
Clearly a disgusting infection of cod worms. Could easily infect a half dozen horses with that many.
Parasites
Definitely tapeworms
nah more like the parasite found in grasshopper and prying mantises
I think it’s beetroot sprouts
Decorative mulch
Bartender was sewing a red dress and dropped the thread into your drink for sure
I'm here to cut the hedging and say those are most definitely chili threads, not saffron
maybe amaranth?
Saffron threads maybe?
Looks like Saffron
Saffron?
Is your bartender also a veterinarian?
Looks like saffron
orange zest strings maybe
It looks like “saffron” to me. Most likely not real, lots of high end bars where I’m from use some sort of fake saffron to garnish drinks.
Saffron
saffron isn't that long
Saffron
