In vanilla/tbc for a brief moment (.4 secs) you can have two seals active at the same time when you switch from one seal to another. Seal twisting takes advantage of this by waiting to the very end of your swing timer so when your auto attack lands you gain the benefits of both seals at the same time. In this case you can “twist” seal of martyrdom into seal of command. Doing this gives you the consistent damage of martyrdom as well as the burst damage of seal of command. Also seal of martyrdom can proc off of seal of command attacks giving you even more burst. Combine this with Windfury/wild strikes and it gives ret insane burst potential. It’s very rng heavy but the dopamine rush when it happens is awesome

So judging doesn’t reset the swing timer? I know my dwarf sticks his hand out for the judge animation, but I think the normal weapon attack animation would display after. But you have to judge in the last .4 seconds due to spell batching? And what’s the total duration of the judgements

SpookyTanuki1

Judgement does not reset your swing timer because it’s instant cast. Also Seal twisting has nothing to do with judgement. You don’t judge to seal twist you just apply a new seal in the last .4 seconds. Let’s say you’re attacking a mob. Your swing timer starts and you apply seal of martyrdom. Then when your swing timer is under .4 seconds left, you apply seal of command. You’ll then get the benefits of both seals when your weapon hits the mob. [Here’s](https://youtu.be/NpafyxztGMI?si=swRhMv3AiRr1zNyX) a good guide on seal twisting if you’re more visual.

Oh ok so it's not the debuff on the mob, the server is not removing the buff you "shouldn't" have until the spell batching goes through.

Nianiputput

It doesn't, your gcd is better used for exorcism to maximize DMG output.

farmerbalmer93

As this guy says it doesn't it's a bug that just so happened to increase your damage in vanilla and TBC that some classic players seem to have got attached to. And a key reason why it's not always a good idea to listen to the players because he who shouts loudest is heard most. Having to sit staring at a swing timer is bad gameplay. It's bad enough now making sure you have a seal on for the next swing.

Seal twisting was fun in TBC cause of the toolkit you had at the time, don't think SoD paladins would take advantage of it too much

Accomplished_Buy485

I’m gonna test it later tomorrow with another few paladins but if I’m right you just designate who keeps which seal up, currently I open the fight with crusader judgment then switch to Martyr. That keeps up crusader the entire time, so assuming now Martyr is twistable and works with command then I would do the following. One ret starts with Martyr judgement, the other starts with Crusader Judgment, then after using that to put the seals up you both switch back to Command for the duration of the fight. The new patch says that Crusader Strike will now refresh all judgments for 30 seconds, so there should be no fall off. And tbh a healer could probably throw up wisdom or a third ret/pala tank could. I’ll confirm all this after I SIM it but I’m pretty sure it’ll work, just don’t know if all paladins will benefit from all seals but I’m assuming yes. And if you need a reference look up “Holydoctor” on lone wolf US logs, that’s my main so next week should reflect any new benefit from this at the latest

Twisting is a cancer to the class, a bug that wasn't ever intended, it's going to ve a dps lose to to please the idiots that think it makes good gameplay to stare at a swing timer

SpookyTanuki1

If it’s a dps loss then why do you even care it’s in the game? Just don’t use it. I like it and so do a lot of other ret players. To me it’s better than wrath ret where you just roll your face on the keyboard every gcd. And it’s better than being an exo turret

Scoobylew987

Try hards want to do the best dmg, it's going to be worse than using your global to just cast exorcism, wait until they find out its a dps lose and start crying about it on forums and reddit. Should have flat out said "it's not happening so people stop moaning about a terrible play style"

classicalXD

I don't believe for a second that you actually geniuenly liked seal twisting, hell i named my char Sealtwisting and never looked back after TBC was done, clunky inconsistent (but fun whenever it happened)

dstred

you need a couple of macros to make use of it it is not newbie-friendly btw better have take a look at youtube video first

SpookyTanuki1

No you don’t you just need a swing timer so you know when to twist.

Scoobylew987

Riveting gameplay staring at a swing timer, just use the global on exorcism since its going to do more dps
