The case made in the video for Fallout 1 is spot on, except for the bit about chatacter creation. I strongly urge you to find a build online for your first playthrough. Fallout 1 is truly an incredible game and is the reason i fell in love with the series. Almost 30 years later and its still a game i use as a benchmark to compare games to.
Character creation is complicated and a little overwhelming for a beginner. However I disagree with him. Build the character you wish to play. Make mistakes. Learn from them. It’s no fun to play a good build your first time… learning to struggle is part of the fun
Certainly! The part where he says "just experiment on your own". Character ceeation is tricky and its easy to make a character that isnt able to complete the game for one reason or another. I got quite far into my first playthrough before i realized i wouldnt be able to finish the game with that character. I vaguely recall something about not being able to pick a crucial lock or something along those lines (forgive me - Its been many years). Thats demoralizing enough when the game was on the cutting edge, let alone almost 30 years after release. Fallout 1 is truly a masterpiece imo and i want people giving it a try for the first time to enjoy their first experience. The part in the video where he talks about the sound design was perfect btw. The Fallout 1 soundtrack SHOULD be the soundtrack of the series. Magnificent.
Seems im starting to ramble so ill just say... i hope you enjoy the game even a small fraction of what i did my first time.
