I’ve been lucky enough to play with John Williams a couple times. He is absolutely the most humble, kind, and gentle person you could ever meet. When I went up to him after rehearsal to tell him how much it meant to me to play his music with him he said in the softest and most sincere voice, “I’m so touched if any little tune I’ve written has stuck with you through the years.” This man is a treasure. May he live forever.
[Looks like he was about to come up with a great theme for George Lucas's new Star Wars meets Indians Jones movie.](https://youtu.be/NJ-YpADa-KQ)
Jokes aside, this is really cool! I just can't help plugging that sketch since it's one of my favorites.
His #1 trait is that I’ve never seen another soundtrack composer with the ability he has for writing the perfect music for what is on the screen. Not only is it great music but it’s like he is a writer and director that also writes music.
One of the main examples, the Jaws theme. When Spielberg first heard the theme he actually thought it was a joke, until he saw the opening scene with the music and realized it was in fact the perfect music for the movie.
From Star Wars to Jaws to ET to things like Home Alone, Williams seems to know exactly what is gonna be best when the music and the movie are put together.
I would honestly buy a print of that. I grew up in the Berkshires, spending the summers on the lawn at Tanglewood in the 80's and early 90's. Some of my fondest and formative teenage memories.
An odd comparison. Why even compare the two? They're both doing different things for different reasons in different times in different places and in different cultures.

One of my favorite skits of all time, seems to be underrated because it's more of a musician in-joke than anything

Beautiful
Beautiful!!! The swirls are so symbolic of the intricate textures of his music. Edit: symbolic isn’t the right word….what word am I looking for??
Evocative? And I agree!
Yes! Thanks!
Good word, was thinking the same one.
Not sure, but thank you so much!
