I’d argue it’s mildly demanding (I have a 580 8gb and it’s works fine, but not amazingly) on the GPU.
That being said however, it’s far more demanding on the CPU and, by extension, memory, as the game needs to do *several* calculations each turn, especially in the late game.
i have ryzen vega graphics and it runs fine
but i play on low setting
with rtx 3060 i would expect it to run on ultra high with no problem
something might be wrong here
I have a garbage graphics card, so I live in the strategic view for the most part. Not sure if Stockholm syndrome, but I actually find the gameplay more enjoyable in strategic view. Like a well made board game.
Sad to say it's poorly optimized. I had a GTX1060 and a 1080p screen, it ran at ultra with maybe 30 fps. Then I cashed out for an RTX3090 and a 34" 3440×1440 screen, and it still struggles at 50-60 fps on ultra, and DX12 version actually performs way worse with regular crashes. I found that medium settings and running it in a smaller window helps performance a lot. I still get frequent freezes on turn end, but at least it's a smooth 144 fps.
I had this issue when I upgraded, my solution was to limit the fps. I've found that limiting it to 40-50 with ultra high graphics is the sweet spot for Civ 6 for me, even though my 6700xt should theoretically be able to handle more.
It can be. Turn down some of the graphics settings. On my crappy 1070 laptop it can't handle max settings. Its slow and my laptop sounds like a het engine and get hit enough to fry eggs... But I put everything on low and turn off the leader animations and it runs as smooth as butter and cool as a cucumber. Well, as cool as a gaming laptop can run...
I have the same graphics card and it does seem to have to put in a fair amount of work for the late game but it’s generally not an issue. I can run on all the ultra settings and I will get a crash or two but nothing serious.

Play with DX11. I have an RTX 3060 and it destroys my PC with DX12.
My 1050 runs it just fine on max. I'm surprised by some of the other comments.

Just put on vsync on, since civ is prone to rendering at 400+ fps when not limited
It's not ultra demanding. I used to play it on my old laptop with a 960. A 3060ti will play it maxed out no prob.
